[Q] Dust under front camera - Sony Xperia ZR

I bought this device less than a month ago, it is great and I love it, except for one thing, which is dust under the front camera. It doesn't affect pictures and is not visible except under the sun. Isn't this device supposed to be dust resistant?
Has anyone else got the same issue?
BTW, I used to have HTC Amaze before, and never had dust under the camera even though it was not dust-resistant.

Dust in front facing camera

Hey guys, I'm having a massive problem with dust in my front facing camera. It renders it practically unusable, everything looks white when I switch to the front facing camera.
Any ideas on how to remove the dust? I don't even have any idea how it got in. Best bet is through the ear piece I guess.

not sure if it will help you
but for most of my high end cameras i use a Giottos Rocket blower to get rid of the dust in most parts
Thing is, is behind a glass piece sigh

arghh! this seems very problematic since unless you dismantle the Note, it will be nearly impossible to wipe the dust. Didn't you use a protective cover and screen protection from the beginning or the dust was present the 1st day you got the Note?

Thats the thing. I dont remember if it was present the day I bought it. Yeah I did use a protective cover. You guys don't have a problem with dust in the front camera?
Maybe it's a fault? Can you physically see the dust on the glass in front of the camera? Mine looks clear like this image:

You probably can take it to warranty Samsung service and say it never worked.
I don't use a protective cover and have had no dust issues. I've noticed some dirt/dust getting into the back cover area which i just blow out occasionally. Maybe if you clean/blow out those areas and ports it might dislodge any debris?

Yes, I can physically see the dust. The front facing camera is greyed over. Sighh
Well if you're feeling adventurous, you can dissemble the Note yourself and clean it. There are a few tutorials on youtube under "disasemble galaxy note" such as this one:

It doesn't seem that hard and you don't need any special equipment.
This definitely sounds like a clear cut warranty claim case.
Nothing is supposed to be able to enter that little space in front of the camera if the phone has not broken or been broken since day one. Thats my point of view anyway.

I followed the video and dissembled the phone. Luckily it all went well and I was able to remove all the dust. The front camera is working perfect now. Thankss!

Awesome
Just a generall concern...shouldn't the warrenty cover a scenario like this?

I had same problem, and also eventually dissasembld to clean. I did otice (prior to dissassembly) that the glass screen was slightly loose against the chrome bezel at along the top edge (i.e. where the earpiece & front cam are located). pressing on that edge (particularly at the RHS near the cam) there was some "give" - i.e. you could push the glass and it would depress into the bezel by 1mm-2mm and then spring back up.
I suspect that is why dust has ben able to enter. Unfortunately, after cleaning and reassembly, the same "give" is still there. I'd hoped that it was just a badly assembled unit and that it would now be properly sealed, but no joy.
did/does your phone have a similar issue by any chance?
Also, I did the cleanout yesterday, same day as I upgraded to ICS (UK CPW XXLQ2 baseband XXLPT). I'm now noticing terrible wifi/cell radio performance (lost 25% battery in 45 mins just browsing with min screen brightness, lots of wifi dropouts, loads of heat dissipating to rear of case). This in same place (my bed!) as I always surf same sites every morning and where on Gingerbread I'd have no dropouts and my battery drain would be minimal (<5%).
Again, I'm wondering whether ICS is to blame or whether I've somehow messed up during reassembly (maybe poorly reconnected one or more of the ribbon connectors leading to the radio chip?). Have you noticed any difference in Wifi/cellular reception since reassembly?
Battery drain and wifi performance continued to be terrible, so I took it apart again and reassembled once more, this time with greaer care. I think I had done a bad job 1st time round as it's now got much better wifi signal, back to how it was originally.
Battery drain is slightly better too but still much worse than on GB but I think that is just a defect of the stock ICS, just coincience that I did the ICS install same day that Itook the note apart.
Did anyone try to blow out the dust and did that work?
I'm not to keen to pick the phone apart for it.

[Q] Camera issues

My phone dropped from about a meter (3 feet) off the ground the other day on to some concrete. Luckily there were no cracks or scratches on the phone so I thought it was fine.
A little while later I used the camera and noticed it looked a bit weird. The screen had lines all over it and the photos came out with a red tint. I thought that maybe it was just the app screwing up, so I tried a different camera app but came out with the same results.
I recorded a video of it happening: (but I can't post links since I'm a "new" user. So here's a gif and the picture I took.)
The front camera is completely fine, so I guess something in the rear got damaged when it hit the ground.
Is this problem fixable? Or is the rear camera broken for good? I'm thinking of buying a replacement lens online somewhere and opening the phone and swapping it for the broken one, but I'm not sure if the water resistance will remain intact.
That's unlucky man I'm guessing you will need a new lens and I'd probably get someone proper to do it so you can blame them if anything happens

I doubt it's the lens. Broken camera module.

Replace Z1 camera lens cover

I am not aware of anyone running into this issue before. If you set it on a rough surface or a surface with granules of sand, then that could definitely be the culprit. As far as replacing the lens goes, there is currently no way to get a hold of a replacement lens as far as I know.
If you mean the inside phone part then you'll have to replace the entire camera part. If you mean just the part that you can touch with your finger then you'll need to replace the back glass.
I'm having the same issue, there are some spots on top of the lenses on my phone that won't go away and *all* my photos are have the white color over exposed plus focusing is never sharp enough like other phones, I bought the phone the way it is now and I'm going to replace the back glass to see if it helps.

Dust infront of camera lens

I brought this phone a couple of months ago because the only other one I like (Z1 compact) is still too expensive but within only 2 weeks of owning it the front camera had a lot of dust in front of the lens and the rear one some dust.
I don't care much about the front one as its not much use anyway but the rear one is useful.
I took it apart and blew the dust from all the areas with a air duster can and put small pieces of foam in gaps that are apparent near the camera modules including the large gap to the side of the SD card.
This has worked a bit but the dust is still starting to come back - I can only assume it is getting inside from the headphone socket, usb and buttons.
I thought this phone was supposed to be dust proof/resistant?
Anyone else had this problem/ got any suggestions?
I also find most of the pics have some un-sharp areas although the exposure/contrast is ok and the video is a little clitchy/unsmooth
i never had dirt/dust in camera. and i'm not carefully with this phone
i also had never heard of this problem with this phone...

[Q] Dust (or something) Inside Rear Camera Sensor

I recently bought a Nexus 6 on Swappa, and for the first couple of days didn't notice anything at all wrong. Now today I went to take a picture and there was a very out of focus black smudge on my pictures. Ok, no big deal. Wipe off the rear lens, still there. Uh oh. It wasn't there at first, or at least I didn't notice it. I figured I bought it second-hand so the Moto warranty is null and void anyways. So I peeled my back cover up and lifted the lens off the camera sensor. Then I gently cleaned the lens on the sensor. Powered the phone back on, the spot is still there.
So evidently some little speck of crap has managed to make its way inside of the camera sensor, or a pixel on the sensor died. Not sure what it would look like. This just looks like an out of focus black speck. So I guess I'm going to be replacing it myself. Anyone know of any parts sources other than eTradeSupply? They're currently out of stock of the rear camera sensor. I can live with $25. There is another site that wants $90, but that seems a little steep.
