Hi, my xperia z is locked to 3 network.
I was looking in settings->apps->all. I came across an app called SIM lock. If i was to remove this app would the phone become sim unlocked?
It's not that simple, the app just gives you the right dialogs to enter the unlock codes etc, the locking itself is done at a much lower level afaik.

so many times devices are locked and ultimately someone finds how to unlock the bootloaders
I had a preorder to pick it up today should I bother????
root is a deal breaker for me i can live without custom roms but not root
this was ganna be my first android phone was ganna be switching from a jailbroken Iphone 4
Unlocking a bootloader is getting harder and harder now but root is still possible I went into the T Mobile forum and they already have it rooted so just be patient

Well thats because Tmobile Note 3 doesn't have a locked bootloader.
After hearing this today i am now holding off on this phone and waiting for the Nexus 5. Maybe pick this one up later on...
^^ you have nice tastes in cars babymatteo...
There's a lot of info floating around out there so I figured I'd try to set the record straight. And I can't be the only ones with these questions, so it might be good to have the answers all in one place.
From what I understand, the root for the note 3 on other carriers is working, even though some are still listed as untested. What would happen if one was to try the procedure on the at&t variant?
Next question is more of just a general outlook for the rooting future of this device. Is it looking like its doable, a hell of a challenge, or just plain impossible?

Plug it in and click! I'm "rooting" for you!!!!
At&t Note III...& At&t G Pro
Same goes for the Rogers Wireless SM-N900W8 version in Canada... Usually anything that works for the AT&T perks for us so I'm just waiting....

From everything that I have read over the past couple of days AT&T has a locked bootloader. The TMobile version doesn't have one. The reason why root works for it is because it flashes a custom recovery like CWM or TWRP and then roots it from there. That is not possible with a locked bootloader. I would rather get the TMobile version of the Note 3 and just SIM unlock it and use it on AT&T but coming up with $700+ dollars is not an option for me. So I can only hope an exploit is found for the AT&T version.

There will always be a workaround. The phones only been out a little while so it's always best to wait and be patient. Yeah it sucks but early stuff can be unstable. No matter how hard it gets lock down it's not going to be "unlockable". It's just a matter of how much work it's going to take to unlock it.
Well its pretty much going 2 be a hell of a challenge. I'm coming from att Galaxy S4 & it has been crazy over there as far as this bootloader locking with att. U do have root but things haven't been easy by no means so I'm sure it'll be no easier with this device, if not more difficult. But hey I'm optimistic, if we can just get root I'll be happy...

I find the loki recovery to be easy on the S4.. remember Sprint and Verizon also will have lock bootloaders.
I doubt the two largest networks (Vzw, AT&T) will be left in the dirt.

Everyone thought the same about the S4 with the mf3 update then it got rooted with safestrap to load roms. Everyone thought you couldn't reverse it but it is now reversible. There is even a one click app to root it. Just give it some time.

Cf-auto-root does not flash a custom recovery. It just roots.

I just purchased my Samsung galaxy s5 from at&t the other day and I was just curious about sosomething When I boot up my phone I get the Samsung logo with an unlocked pad lock and it says custom. Does this mean I'm unlocked ? This is an at&t variant

No it doesnt. You should probably search xda before starting a thread
Others have had that. While I tried ART runtime, it did that to me. Once I switched back to dalvik, it went away.

Not sure what this is about. Seems new, but whenever I unlock my phone now, it always turns the volume back up to 6, even if I use Volume Locker to attempt to lock it.
Rooted, unlocked, S-off, stock Rom.
