Hi people, well I've been looking for this answer but i haven't find any one.
When you Unlock the Bootloader of Moto X, Can it still work with the Stock ROM?
The Roms which are not based on Stock, for Example CM, or others, do they still keep the native functions from Moto X? I mean the "Ok, google now" for waking the phone, or that one which wakes the phone when you move.
And, What about the OTA in UB?
Many thanks in advance.
Regards,
iCerebro.

You should have no problem running stock Roms at all. Unfortunately for CM builds and such, Motorola native functions usually don't work. Hope that helps. Doesn't mean you can't go back and forth and try different Roms...that's the beauty of an unlocked boot loader, opens the Moto X to new worlds.

Thanks for the answer, I have had my other phone and Unlocked its bootloader, but in this phone I see there are a lot of problems for bricking and no posibilitis for unbricking, so I just want to have my phone rooted. But for now is impossible.
I'd suggest you read through all the sticky threads in general and q&a and learn how all this stuff works, before you do anything.
The more knowledge you possess, the less likely you'll have issues, minor or major.
All your questions were good ones....just very basic ones. I wouldn't jump into anything until you fully understand what you are about to do.
Good luck and enjoy!!

Motorola got it so right with the Droid and then royally screwed it up with the Milestone by locking down it's bootloader, what are the odds with the new Droid X?
On a slight off topic speculation, same question for the Droid 2?

Taking into account the number of previous models listed above, I'd say it's a 50/50 shot
cross my fingers, hope to die, stick a needle in my eye... lol
i can almost bet that the bootloader is locked. motorola said a few months back all their future phones will have locked bootloaders. just hope it can be hacked like the milestone, but desnt take as long.

This is the only thing that would make me return the Droid X. As far as I know, the Milestone bootloader still hasn't been cracked, and months on from its release, it's not looking that likely. I'm using the first 30 days to see if I can put custom roms on there or not -- if I can't, I'll go return it and wait for a better phone.
just read and no the milestone bootloader hasnt been unlocked. just hope they dont lock down this bootloader if they do i will keep my droid around for hacking perposes
If I cant put custom roms on this phone, I will not be getting it.
we may have to wait and see if their going to lock it down. i pray not, i want to keep custom roms but would rather overclock and keep the stock usablility or just theme my phone
From what I've heard, the bootloader is signed. Does anybody know if there's been any progress on the Milestone with the kexec method?

That's a bit of a bummer, but I mean the phone is just plainly better than an Evo. Even if it can't flash roms, having root inside the OS is still ok. I mean that way we can do wifi tethering and stuff like that.
What really impresses me from this phone is the GPU. The Evo's sucks.

Yeah, the GPU in this is really helping to sell me on it. TBH I don't mind not having custom ROMs (Android custom ROM's aren't nearly as necessary as WinMo custom ROMs IMO), but I really want to be able to overclock, since hopefully this will be able to get up to 1.2-1.3GHz, at least.

I am sure it can do those frequencies provided someone hacks the bootloader. But I have a feeling even if the snapdragon is at 1.2ghz it probably is equal to the Droid x's 1ghz OMAP proc.
It's just a better phone, it just has a bit odd stylistically, thank goodness the front looks smexy.
I wish Froyo would come out to it earlier, but it's not a must. (I want Flash )
With all the competition I can't see myself picking this up with a locked boot loader. Development efforts will seriously be non existent. Foolish on motorola's part. They gain nothing by locking it and ultimately lose sales.
Can someone clarify: an earlier poster said that the bootloader had been accessed, but the rest of the posts are going along the lines that the bootloader is NOT unlocked...
does anyone have any clarity for this one
timing?
Using the Droid as an example anyone remember how long it took "them" to figure out whether the bootloader was locked? Trying to figure out if this will be determined before I trying to pick one up on the 15th.
Wow this has been eye opening. I have been a long time winmo user and love flashing ROM's. I'm about to switch to verizon and was already sold on the X but after reading about the locked boot loader I think I'll stick with HTC devices, or at least the original moto droid. This will be a deal breaker sorry moto
There is a person at androidforums who has a Droid X. He is doing a Q&A right now. He has been asked twice (once by me) if the bootloader is locked or not. He is unsure how to check this (as am I). Figured someone here may be able to help him out. Since I cannot post links the thread is "Droid X in my hands on monday". Hopefully something good will come out of this.

All Winmo / HTC phones are locked at the beginning and you get a great unlocker usually from Olipro. It usually takes a month or so for this to happen. Not sure why you would think an Android device would be different or why this would be a deal breaker for you. I am sure there will be someone who knows enough about the bootloader who will figure out how to unlock it.

I would feel more at ease if the precedence set by the milestone didn't exist...
Despite going through several threads here and somewhat failing on easy rooting, found a one-click via YouTube, MotoFail_Windows something or other I believe it was. Seems simple enough.
However, in looking through Android Development here for this device, there doesn't appear to be many ROMs, am I missing something? Had no idea so much effort would be spent making this phone work for GSM folks. Any and all help for a newbie D4 owner who has every intention on rooting/flashing/tethering in the very near future is MUCH appreciated.

Rooting is pretty easy. I would recommend using jsnweitzel's Droid 4 Utility. Super easy to use.
Unfortunately you're not missing something in regard to ROM development. It's really fallen off here recently. Best thing to do currently is probably update your D4 to the most current Moto ICS leak. The CM9 and AOKP builds for the leaks are fairly stable. If you don't want to go that route I would recommend myfishbear's Eclipse port for GB.
The good news is it sounds like hashcode (main D4 dev) is getting closer to getting us up and running with the kexec kernel exploit that will allow custom kernels. Hopefully, once that gets going, ROM development will pick back up.

There really are no good GSM QWERTY phones out there right now. There's a couple of Blackberry-style ones which are awful and the Sony Xperia Mini which is also awful. Both have tiny keyboards. Most GSM QWERTY people seem to be hanging onto their old HTC Desire Z (which you will know as the T-Mobile G2) or coming here and getting a Droid 4. There really aren't any other options.
For US folk wanting custom ROMs. The process is actually the same as getting GSM support, root, flash the latest ICS leak, install safestrap, install either AOKP or CM9. You can follow my guide for getting GSM to work since it's actually the same process.
I've added to the OP instructions for putting AOKP or CM9 on there, both of them are the same low level stuff, produced by Hashcode, with the ROM-specific framework grafted on top.
Awesome input, thanks guys (and gal). Unfortunately the kid trying to sell it apparently was unaware the phone was active in his "brothers" name. This is of course after calling Verizon to make sure the phone was clean. $280 in the box, my instincts should've kicked in but the kid actually seemed sincere. Ah well, still keeping my eyes peeled and will eventually get one so this is helpful info. Thanks again.
Hi, I'm using an Xperia T with a locked bootloader and there seem to be two main methods to rooting a locked bootloader, DooMLoRD's & Bin4ry's. Is one of these methods 'better' than the other?
And secondly, can anyone with a locked bootloader recommend any good ROMs that work on locked bootloaders? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Both work fine, neither is better than the other.
As for recommending ROMs, it always better to try them yourself. Flash one, and give at least 3-4 days before it settles before you make your mind up.
EDIT, But you can start with this one...

Asking what ROM to use is an impossible question, what works for some doesn't work for others. It honestly depends what you are into.
Its like trying to recommend food, music, films, etc without knowing your tastes.
Make a list of what features you want and go around the the threads and inspect them to see if they offer what you require.
The minute i received my T it was rooted. I wanted a to remove all the bloatware, as well as a ROM that was deodexed and with lidroid toggles. At the time Xperiment was top of the page with all of these, i looked, i tried, i liked. I havent tried any others so i cannot advise other than what i've said and what greg has said.
Part of the fun around here is flashing a ROM, then another...then another...then another..then before you know your sat staring at a screen tapping F5 anticipating the next update.

Thanks for the reply, I asked mainly because (from what I'd seen) there weren't very many ROMs for locked bootloaders so it would be 'easier' to identify the 'best' one, but obviously this isn't the case. Thank you, I'll just try all of them and see which is best for me.
Just like the topic says, thinking of doing something like this if there is any interest. I own a xt1060 (Verizon non-dev edition) so that would be the base.
Discuss?

I think that would be great. What modifications do you plan to make?
Absolutely. Though would it work on the AT&T XT1058?
Since kernels cannot be flashed, I believe optimizations arent possible? Just visual changes?
I would like to see a debloated blur ROM with more toggle options in the notification pulldown and status bar tweaks.

De-bloat, replace some of the apps with more "functional" source built counterparts if/when they are available (MMS/Dialer/etc.), possibly some slight modifications to the framework images to make it look a bit more unified across all X variants.

As per AT&T, that would be dependent on having testers readily available who aren't afraid of taking a trip to RSDville should something go sideways.
Optimizations are always possible, however slight they may be

Pretty sure we would have to build from source to completely modify those areas, in the meantime I would just stick with GravityBox to take care of those options.

Sweet, I always appreciate any help I can get!
Keep in mind also guys that this will be done in my spare time (which I don't have a large amount of) and no ETAs will be given on anything. This is gonna require quite a bit of research and testing on my own device before I even start grabbing testers for it, I personally do NOT want to be responsible for bricking someone elses X... that would be a tragedy of epic proportions.

ETAs if asked, will be done nicely
I kid, i kid. Take your time. Its better to have a late released good ROM that a quick release buggy one
And BTW, whats the ETA for the first release?

Definitely interested in testing this. Freezing bloat on my Dev Ed really boosts the battery life into well over the 2 day range. Thanks OP
Yeah, I'll act as a tester with great pleasure. I've got some experience in modding and don't get scared of anything
Awesome, looks like there's a decent amount of interest in this. OK then, research commencing now.

Remicks,
A) Yes I am interested!
B) Would you be willing to throw a little education our way? How does one make a Rom safestrap compatible? I am currently using a rooted 4.4 safestrap Rom, with OTA bootloader / safetrap installed. Here is the link http://rootzwiki.com/topic/108826-romsafestrapxt1060-stock-rooted-vzw-140455-kitkat/
I was under the impression that using safestrap one could not flash new Kernel, though it seems that is one of the steps for the above link? Is it because it is a digitally signed kernel? Any information would be awesome about how to do this, perhaps I could even help!
Yes I know, another which rom thread blah blah lol. Well yes and no. I've had my N6 since launch and quickly rooted, unlocked and installed recovery but have done nothing since. Well I'm getting bored and development has obviously exploded. I've tried wading through the ROM threads but its honestly a lot to sift through, so I would like some recommendations of those who have been flash happy and give me some advice on a solid, smooth and polished rom with nice feature sets...
Thanks.

all of them, in the android and original development threads. the only thing that you need to decide on is which features are important to you, and which roms have thise features.
Yep, just read the op's, pick one's you like and start flashing!
