I don't have a factory USB cable for my droid 3 and it seems like I need one for the computer to notice it. Is there any way to get around this?
Just need a usb cable, a motorola usb cable is preferred, but I have used several other brands and generics.
A factory cable allows you to power the phone through usb without a battery
If pc does not see it, problem is drivers or hardware failure.

i recently bought a cheap USB On-The-Go cable for the Razr hoping to be able to use my droid 4 with the DSLR controller app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.dslrcontroller&hl=en but i am having no luck. i'm on stock w/ root, recently did the 219 update with no change. problem is i have no solid means of troubleshooting. i have a touchpad with cm9, droid 1, droid 2, and my droid 4, but i cannot get the cable to work with any of them even for mounting a usb drive. but i'm also having trouble finding solid info on if it should work with any of them.
has anyone had any luck using usb otg with the D4?

I've gotten it working with a cheap Staples USB hub, a USB Y cable (2 male USB one end, 1 male microUSB on the other end for the hub), and a USB charging brick, the USB OTG cable itself. From what I've put together, it's sensitive to where it gets power from. That's why I had trouble with it at first.
Long story short, USB OTG does work on the D4 stock rom, updated and bone stock

Thanks. i actually was fooling around with my touchpad last night and found out it needs external power as well. so with a y-cable from a seagate portable harddrive, i was able to test that the OTG cable i have is indeed working. however, i could not get my D4 to work using extra power from my PC, but I picked up a kodak power brick today and its charging, so here's hoping that works.
actually nevermind, after playing around with a hub and a usb stick, it decided to work with my PC supplying extra power. after that, DSLR controller worked as long as there was extra power supplied. i imagine the battery pack i picked up should work quite nicely. now to go take HDR photos of the entire world! bwhahaha
Glad you got it working. From my reading, the thing to do is get power on the +5v rail of the micro-usb 'input' port, that will allow power to flow from the USB hubs power brick, thru the hub, up to the phone. Can't help you with that however, it's a bit beyond me.
I've got a Motorola Milestone with a broken USB Port, is it possible to get a custom ROM running ?
All Guides I found start with flashing via USB-Connection.
About Phone says: "Firmware-Version: 2.1-update1"
Regarding if you can flash it without the usb connection i don't know but are you sure that the usb connection on your phone are broken? Have you tried different cables, usb ports on the computer or even with another computer?

I bought it on ebay and in the description the broken USB was mentioned, but I hoped the previous owner just had some problems with his/her PC. But on my Laptop with my cable it says nothing, so it seems to be broken.
I guess there's no chance to get a new ROM running.
So now I try to buy another Milestone with a broken display or something else that makes it cheap, because It seems the motherboard with the USB-port is one of the first things when you disassemble it, so it should be easy to change.
I'm new to the Atrix HD, but have been around since the OG Droid (followed by a Droid 2, Droid 4, then Galaxy Nexus). I just picked up an Atrix HD for the first time.
USB works for fastboot - Windows 7 recognizes it, fastboot shows USB connected.
If phone is turned off, and connect USB to PC, phone boots up.
If phone is turned off, and connect USB to power adapter, it will charge.
Once booted into android, USB does not work at all. I've tried 2 different cables (both of which work to power it when connected to the wall charger) and 2 different physical machines across 3 different OS's - all with the same result. Once in Android, USB is not recognized. Nothing happens, no indication in the OS that a device is even detected.
I've tried RSD back to stock - but this did not resolve the issue.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Weird... Which Recovery are you using? Also, when did this problem started? Did you formated any partition? Any new ROM?

It was completely stock - OS and recovery.
I purchased it off ebay, so - I'm not sure when it started. I've been in contact with the buyer, and he said he never tried connecting to a PC.
With that being said, I was able to get it to work on my mac with a Nook cable. Same cable will not work in on my laptop in Win 7 or in Fedora 20 for this phone.
While not ideal, I was able to get the phone to it's desired state by using the mac (CWM recovery and CM11 ROM). After changing to CWM and CM11, phone exhibits same behavior still on Win 7 and Fedora when using a generic or genuine OEM Motorola cable (came with my Droid 4) as well as using the cables on the Mac. The only way it works is with the Nook cable on the Mac. Using the OEM or generic while attached to a wall adapter, the phone does charge.
The only thing I can think of with the Nook cable is that the connector is slightly longer than a typical USB adapter. I'm not sure why this works as I can not see any damage to the phone's USB socket.

This is really weird. But I think this is a hardware issue, even when the port may not show any signs of abuse or something like that. If you connect the OEM Motorola cable to the Mac, does it works? If it doesn't, it's very likely to be hardware issue. Also, you got it from Ebay, that's suspicious... Any way, another thing that you can do is download all Motorola drivers for Windows and try with a ton of USB cables.
Stupid question, but what exactly are you trying to do with it? And do you have USB debugging enabled?

Charging would be a good start, but file xfer would be nice too. I've tried with USB debugging both disabled and enabled.
Hi all. I'm running Android 4.4.2 with Sense 6 on InsertCoin - S-OFF. It's been fine for about a full year now - I havent touched ROM/firmware in about 6 months. Just this past week, the device is no longer recognizing any PC connections - it still charges fine with any USB plug, but seems to think every connection is an AC charger. Nothing pops up on my phone or the computer (mac or PC). I have USB debugging on.
ADB does not see the device, in normal boot or in Fastboot.
Fastboot on the phone says "Fastboot AC" where it used to say "Fastboot USB"
Is this a software issue I can rectify from the phone? I have TWRP and root, so I can perform certain things on the device itself. Or should I go to T-Mobile and try to get a replacement (I have insurance on the device)

Are you sure you are using a usb data cable and not only a usb charging cable? Usb data cable have 5V+, Ground, Data+ and Data- connections. Charging cable only have 5V+ and Ground connection and will not be able to communicate with the device. You can test your capble on another device to confirm the cable have data capabilities (using a camera for example or any other device with a micro usb port).
Even if you are sure that you are using a data usb cable, you might want to try another one, maybe that one you are using is defective.

Thanks - yes, I tested this on my Nexus 7 too. All 3 cables I tried connect the N7 to both the Mac and PC fine, I was able to flash an OTA to it. However, the same 3 cables product no results for the HTC One M7.

it doenst sounds good, maybe a defective usb port on your phone... Maybe some dirt inside? Try to clean your port with a cotton swab and Isopropyl alcohol
Hello,
I experiece a problem with my stock xt1068. I tried these past days to connect my phone to my pc using a usb cable and the phone was not detected by my PC. I tried doing this both on my desktop and laptop, usb 2.0 and 3.0 but no luck. I was using a different USB cable than the original and tried it with two different cables. The cables work with other phones. I also tried this at work where I have the original USB cable and there it works.
Do you guys think the phone only works with the original cable or is there a problem with the phone?
If there is a problem with the phone will a factory reset get rid of it?
I am also mentioning that whatever cable I used the charging worked.
