I have a cracked screen and camera and I want to bring it in to get repaired, is it a good idea to make my phone stock before I bring it in?

Basing this answer off of what I read, yes. Although there are successful cases of people not doing anything at all when giving it to Sprint to repair, it is in your best interest to do it anyways in case they find out that your warranty is void. If you're handing it over to HTC, it is a must.
Alrighty, thank you!

I bought nexus s from craigslist and got ripped off... Someone sold me a phone without back battery cover. It came with a case and seller was in a hurry so I bought it by inspecting the software.
Can some one help me in buying a cheap case? Nfc is not a problem for me... I just want a 10-15 bucks battery cover...

Call Samsung support. They'll ask for imei and just tell then you broke your battery cover. Then say you heard they sold replacements. They'll check and then they'll sell it to you for $16. Took a little more than a week for me to get one.

Thanks man! you saved my life. Just called samsung support and had them send me the back cover for $16.23 with free 5-7 days shipping.
I also asked for the warranty on the product and they said that it was till March 2012. I also noticed that the screen has permanent impression of the virtual keyboard on it. First i thought that restoring to factoring settings will fix it but no... I still have the virtual keyboard impressions on the screen. I think it is the problem with the digitizer. They said that they will replace it for free. Now I am gonna have a cool phone once it comes back from Samsung.
Thanks a ton for showing me the way.
Anyhow, one more question, My phone is rooted and is running a custom rom on it, is it still under warranty? I am sure there should be a way to unlock the bootloader and return back to stock ROM, can you show me a thread please... I am gonna search also but I want to make sure I am doing it right before i do it... so that they don't deny me the warranty...
Thanks,
Edit/update: searched and found everything. Returned back to stock. It's so simple with nexus s! Thanks everyone who helped me

Go to samsungs nexus s website, the number will be listed where it says support. You just talk to a rep who will handle everything.

Just google samsung support phone number. It will help if you register your phone on their website before calling because that will save you some time.

I just received an assurion replacement yesterday, I'm all stock. Will installing the update with button sensitivity interfere with the rooting I'm going to do? Also I did not get refurb, I got brand new in box with all the accessories in case anyone is wondering. Thx for replies.
No, if youre just rooting then it dosent matter and if you're gonna throw a custom ROM then, it still doesn't matter because you'd be replacing the Sprint stock software anyhow.

Finally after 3 Amoled screen phones prior to this one, I have my first ever case of "burn in." shows up kinda purple/pink on white backgrounds. Off to Samsung customer service chat I go.

I've had a repair center tell me they will swap out a refurb for it.
Samsung just gave me a number to call during the week. Will stop by a repair center tomorrow.
Would they be bothered with it being rooted? I had a few screens on my evo replaced under warranty and was on MIUI both times and they said nothing.

Not really but I would go back to stock just to be safe.

I agree. Put it completely back to stock so your chances of them saying they refuse to replace it because you rooted and put a custom ROM on it are virtually zero. Don't give them any excuse to say no because you're too lazy to put it back to 100% stock. Make sure you do a factory full reset after PC Odin back to stock and remove your SD card before bringing it in. Better to be safe than sorry.

So samsung wants me to ship my phone to them so they can repair the screen. Will only take about 11 to 14 days!
Yeah, not gonna do that. Going to a store tomorrow.

he already answered your question
IMO (and I have returned re-locked handsets without question) you should be fine.
Relock and return the faulty unit, regardless of any claims made that you voided warranty by unlocking bootloader if the device is defective you have an un-deniable right as a consumer to warranty. Good luck.

different reps will handle the same situation differently, one may replace it with less fuss than the other depending on what they know and what state you bring it back in.
why are you exchanging it, is it really bricked? is there something else wrong with the phone? is it rooted? these things will help determine what state you may want to leave your phone in when you walk through the door.
It's currently rooted with kingo but I think you can unroot it and it will get rid of the custom padlock ... I dropped it once at home but the silver rim is starting to chip off

Sooooo here are the options. IF you can get rid of the custom Padlock screen and remove root you can either Bootloop Soft brick ( though soft bricks are hard bricks for us right now ) or you can Brake the firmware and leave it in a Firmware has Encountered an Error screen. whichever one you feel more comfy explaining on your end as to how this occurred for the warranty claim.

I could not, it would recognize the device but never connect to transfer files.
I'll be pleased if they deny your claim and cite the accidental damage as the cause. Buy a case or insurance next time.
I do have insurance and case and screen protector since day 1
