[Q] Need cloudprint.apk from stock 4.4.2, please - Moto X Q&A

Somewhere along the way I must have replaced the stock CloudPrint.apk from 4.4.2 (Dev's Ed, running on TMo). Now the OTA to 4.4.3 won't work.
Can someone direct me to a dl link for the *stock* cloud print.apk for 4.4.2?
I'm referring to the file that, once installed, would be located at /system/app/CloudPrint.apk.
Thanks very much.

I've tried various ways of unpacking the system.img file from the stock 4.4.2 (TMo) release, but so far I haven't succeeded. In other words, if anybody can help me locate a copy of CloudPrint.apk (stock 4.4.2 for Moto X - TMo), I'd be grateful.

[Q] Stock Rom for XT1060

I have dug around a bit and I can't seem to find a TWRP flashable stock rom for the VZW XT1060. Now that I'm liberated (BL unlocked), I am hoping to have a quick and easy way to recover when I **** up my phone. Can I use stock roms for other Moto X variants or should I just be patient and wait for someone to come out with this?
Just make a backup before you start playing, and you're all set.
If you **** up your phone, use the SBF files and flash them manually.

There is no version of the Stock rom that is flashable via TWRP or CWM.
SBF file is out but you must flash via RSDLite, or manually flash via mfastboot. The only "flashable" via recovery "option" out there would be the OTA UPDATE which is not a full rom, and it isn't flashable via TWRP or CWM either.
I don't expect anyone to come out with anything flashable via TWRP/CWM for the stock rom.
It is not recommended to flash X Roms for other variants like the XT1058/XT1053/etc on the Verizon X XT1060 due to radio, and other components.
Flash with RSD or OTA?
Hi all, am hoping soomeone my know this as I have not come across a detail answer for it yet...I have DE still on the original 4.2.2 pre camera. Is there a best way to upgrade to kit kat , either 4.4 or 4.4.2 and be able to have the most "options" left (ie: I wont be able to re-root or intstal Phils recovery) for my device . Any insight would be apreciated. Thanks.

If you have a DE, you can unlock the bootloader (without voiding warranty) at any time, and install a custom recovery to root.
As far as upgrade path, it depends on if you are stock, or how close to stock if you have modified it. If stock, just take the OTA's, one at a time, to keep your settings, data, apps.
The OTA Update files have a manifest in them containing a list of files, and check sums for those files, which it needs on your phone. If files it wants to be there are missing from your phone or do not match the check sum in the manifest, the OTA will fail (which is why I say depends on if you are stock). If you've removed or replaced any files, you'll need to put them back. You'll also need stock recovery for any OTA to install.
An "easy" way to update is to download the SBF file for the version you want on your phone from -> http://sbf.droid-developers.org/phone.php?device=0 unzip it. Edit the XML file and, if it exists, remove the line for erase partition userdata. Then flash using RSDLite.
With the unlocked bootloader, you can then flash TWRP, CWM or other custom recovery and install SuperSU to root if needed.

The xt1055 doesn't have 4.4.4 yet. You can install stock 4.4.2 - just find the thread in general titled 'return to 100% stock'. Everything you need is there.

Thank you very much!!

It will probably be released soon but I have no way of knowing.
Yes, if you flash to stock 4.4.2, you can take the ota normally with no PC. That is assuming you don't flash custom recovery or modify /system. If you do, you cannot take the ota normally. You must flash stock recovery back first and undo any significant changes to /system. That means no Xposed, etc.
If you want further details, search XDA for how to take an ota update.

I said that's assuming you 'don't' (not didn't) do those things -- you will receive the OTA as normal AFTER following the instructions in the return to stock thread to return to 100% stock.
Once you "return to stock" you will be 100% stock - any past changes won't matter.
IF **AFTER** you follow the return to stock guide to return to full stock 4.4.2, you flash TWRP and/or modify files in /system, you can't take the OTA until you un-do all of those changes.
Understand? Nothing you did or have done previously matters. All that matters is what you do AFTER you return to stock...

How do you pull an OTA from a rooted phone?

Cross posted.
I am on the latest 4.4.4 firmware, Blur_Version.22.11.6.titan_retuaws.retuaws.en.US., and would like to download the OTA to post here. I'm rooted, and looked in my cache folder and I do not see any downloaded files.
Am i doing this correctly? I know I need to return to stock to flash (my recovery and kernel are NOT stock), but would like to post the OTA here first.
Please advise!
No need for that. It's already done.

How can I back up recovery.img from Lollipop 5.1?

I recently unrooted my Moto X 1053 DevEd (GSM) in order to accept the Lollipop 5.1 OTA. I got the update and it's working great.
Now I want to re-root my phone, but first I want to be sure that I have a copy of stock recovery.img for Lollipop 5.1.
How can I back up recovery.img from my phone without my phone being rooted?
Thanks!
is temp booting custom recovery still possible... I haven't messed around with stuff in a while, but I think if you can temp boot twrp recovery (fastboot boot twrp) you might be able to use it to back up the stock recovery... you should google for more info on that, make sure it doesn't flash instead of boot.
otherwise you can't backup stock recovery without root. it's kind of a catch 22: you want to back up stock recovery before you root, but you can't do that on the device without root.
normally you can get the recovery from the stock firmware zip file. but I don't think Motorola is handing them out for 5.1 yet - if they are then it will be in that file. if not I suppose the next best thing is to rummage through the OTA file. I haven't unzipped it myself but it has to be in there right? some info that might help: the recovery size is 10mb. I can see it with the DiskInfo app, along with its block partition name mmcblk0p34, although it probably won't be named that in the zip file idk... anyway you can find the OTA here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9Eu943ka0GfQVVsdS13eHhZaU0/view?pli=1
That is a really, really helpful post, dtg7. I had hoped Moto would have posted the firmware, but I guess I'm too impatient. As I didn't have a separate copy of the OTA, I'm doing as you suggested and grabbing the OTA from the site you linked to. I'll try to extract the recovery.img file from there. I'll post my results.
Yes, this is a classic catch 22, as you say.

This is precisely my problem. I get semi-proficient with phone stuff every now and then when I'm changing things around, but then I forget almost everything I need to know to do the most basic geek maneuvers. When I had an HTC Sensation, which was a favorite for ROM-makers and modders, I was swapping out the ROM nearly every day between meals. With the Moto X I haven't done this much, maybe because I've gotten older, but mainly because there don't seem to be as many custom ROMs for the Moto X (nor is as much need for them, with Xposed and with a decent stock ROM.

Isn't that a link to KitKat 4.4.4 (i.e., 213.44.1)?
I've got Lollipop 5.1 on my phone, and "About Phone" lists it as 222.21.15.
It's actually system.img from 222.21.15 that I'm trying to get ahold of.

Or is this still the case (quoted from elsewhere on this site)?
file name ... references the build your phone must be on to accept the update, not the version of the update itself. That is how Moto has done it for some time now.

I'm in the same boat, only I need the recovery to kick off encryption. My process was, test the TWRP lollipop build, backup data with TWRP, flash 4.4.4 stock, OTA upgrade to Lollipop, install TWRP, restore data, can't encrypt now without stock recovery.

Maybe I didn't look hard enough.
I *did* find the 4.4.4 recovery.img in the uncompressed file I requested and received from Moto. It seems like Moto sometimes uses the same recovery.img from release to release, but I'd be skittish about using this with stock 5.1 until someone can give it the all-clear. As of right now (27 june 15, 9:00 GMT), Moto hasn't posted stock 5.1.
