So I'm planning on buying a galaxy gear off of ebay today and pairing it with my Nexus 5. I've read that you can and all but I just have a few questions.
Do you guys know what works and doesnt work when using it with the nexus 5? Especially the camera.
Does it update automatically or do you have to update it manually? Because I read that if you update the gear to tizen it won't work anymore with the nexus.
When I open it from the box will I need a samsung phone to set it up at first? Or can I do it with my nexus?
And one last one, if this works. Should I just go ahead and buy the galaxy gear 2 neo instead?
These questions would solve a lot for me, so if you guys could help that would be great. Thank you very much.
Hey. From what I've tried so far, Gear 1 with Tizen should work fine with your Nexus 5. I've got mine hooked up to my G2 and it works no problem. Camera, notifications, pedometer.
There have been rumblings about what music app to use for controlling the music on your phone but, for the most part, most things do work fine.
Search around and look for the Samsung apps to install as apks.
Good luck.

I know it's VERY early, but that 30% discount at Tmobile is tempting me. But I don't plan on getting a Note 3 or a S4. Currently I'm very happy with my LG G2, although I am considering swapping out to a Nexus 5 depending on what that ends up being.
Anyway I'm trying to find a use for the Gear without a S4/N3. Is there ANY functionality that would prove useful just running it by itself?
Do you guys anticipate any ROMs released in the future to have it work with other Android phones, or just to add stand alone functionality to it? Or is it a totally closed system and hopeless?
Right now it's an n3 or nothing. Have not heard of any roms really

Right now without a compatible device to pair it to you can't even use it as a watch, as the pairing process is what sets the time etc, and there is no way to bypass the screen instructing you to pair it with your device. After it's paired it will function as a watch, camera and pedometer without being connected to the phone but that's about it. No idea on roms but I have heard Samsung will be releasing an SDK for developers to create apps for it.

The app was updated so it can be installed on an S4 from the Samsung store yesterday I believe. Pretty sure it doesn't support all the functions on the S4 tho until it gets 4.3.
Could always get a gear and go into a carrier store and sync on of the GN 3 on display... Jk... Then again it may work. Lol

Hi guys, I bought a galaxy s4 recently and now "samsung exclusive" offers me a galaxy gear for 150€ (half of the official price at least in italy).
I'm a bit excited with the idea of rooting it and putting Null rom... my simple questions are:
1)my gs4 is rooted too, using SlimBean rom. Do I need some samsung app to deal with the phone?
2)battery life of the phone and battery life of the watch if I leave them connected the whole day?
It's worth to buy it? The price is good?

the price is good, and for the rest it varies. without fomey rom, it's not even worth to think about the watch.
not sure if galaxy s4 works without stock rom, surely some people were able to use it with custom, but there is more hassle with it.

thanks for the reply, I have 4 days to decide... then the offering expires.
My phone has to stay with custom rom, I simply hate touchwiz....
So the question is: galaxy s4 + galaxy gear, both with custom rom... can they work together? How?
There are threads, people can tether the Gear to many Android devices, Read about it yesterday, Search the forum
All that was meet is with stock 4,3 ROM on the support S4 the process is easy, I hate Touchwiz too and I run Nova Launcher and delete bloatware.
the thread about using your GG with any Android phone is right below your post.

As title suggests I did the upgrade and now I have connection troubles. I place my phone at work in an area that has good reception and I come in and out of the room (kitchen) to do my job just as I was doing before when on android and it's not reconnecting. I think it connects via bluetooth ok it's just gear manager but I'm not sure. Thinking I might go back to android at least I had no problems then. Unless anyone could shed some light?

Me and the wife both have connection issues, with the Gear and Note 3's not each other. She's not that bothered, but it annoys the hell out of me. Am on V700XXUCNF1 and Gear Manager 2.1.14071502 using Note 3. When I forst switched to Tizen there were no issues, but with 2 updates the connections have gotten worse. i unpaired the devices and repaired and it made them better, but now battery drain is worse than before, only getting 48 hours or so, before I was on for about 72.

You guys are not alone with this. I encountered the same exact issue with Tizer edition Gear1 and that version of Gear Manager with my Note 3. Samsung is absolutely no help at all, and actually took my watch in for service. What they sent back was my watch (all cleaned up- was pretty nice actually), and back on stock version w/ Android. Of course, zero connection issues after receiving it back.... initially. After 2 days of being on stock Android version, I missed the "iPod" functionality of the Tizen OS with the other apps I used. I reinstalled Tizen on the watch, GM updated to the version listed above, and again- can not connect. I tried a few different things but to no avail. I also called and attempted to b*tch out Samsung, but they don't care. What's even scarier, is that they absolutely no idea this is happening.
I found the Tizen downgrade Android thread in here, put Android and Null 23 on my watch and I'm not looking back. once GM updates again I will try it, but if it doesn't work I'm glad that with at least Android on here it is a usable smartwatch. Hope that helps.
Believe me, you guys aren't alone with the connection issues.
Yup that's just confirmed me to move and try null rom. Don't mind battery life as charging most nights anyway. J
Hi, I upgraded room for tizem, however can not get past the initial menu, the configuration with the cellphone.
I have a Samsung S7562 Duos, which only worked with Gear with Bluetooth connection.
I can connect the mobile phone with bluetooth for gear, but I can not exit this menu, what can I do?
Dear guys,
I have never own a wearable before. I was thinking of buying a Gear 2 Neo as a bday gift for my friend, when I stumble across a a post on Engadget of how the Original Gear had Tizen upgrade.
Was pretty psyched about this news, as I also found a local dealer sold his 2nd-handed Gear v7000 for $60 (a used Gear 2 Neo would be about $100).
What I'm asking is, is Gear a better alternative than Gear 2, concerning:
Virtually Gear 2 and Gear share the same specs.
It has Tizen now
Thanks to XDA, many of you guys report to have decent battery life, which is awesome
It might also have Android Wear.
I own a Sony Z Ultra, but according to this, Gear can now runs on Sony too.
So yeah, I've done my homework, and can't have to have my hands on Gear. What do you guys think? With Tizen, is original Gear too far behind Gear 2?
If you want full functionality of your watch, you should use with a samsung device. I would advice you get a android wear device instead, there many alternatives and its gonna be tough to port android wear together with all its functions.

Thanks mate, I guess I'll get an Android Wear.
Nevertheless, I still am going to buy one for my friend. At the same time, I am tight on cash, so I need to make a choice. With Tizen, is Gear close to Gear 2?

Pretty much the same thing when it comes to software. What I like about the gear 2 is that camera and speaker are in the watch which makes you able to switch arm bands.
The Gear 2 is going to be $100 on Black Friday at AT&T.
Hello guys,
Sorry but i didn't find the answer in other post so i creat a new one.
i pla to buy the tab s2 and i want know if with the t715 model it will be possible to use it as a phone. I mean if i will can do phone call and recieve phone call and text ..
thank you
As long as you don't buy a carrier locked version.
ok thank you. tablet order already can't wait to receive it tomorrow

I did it with a tab 4 7 inch. You'll need a Bluetooth headset or will be stuck on speaker mode. Google hangouts is the solution. In fact that's still what I'm doing, couldn't port my sprint num over to project fi so I'm using it as a Google voice number thru hangouts. With an actual phone it works well.
Actualy since i recieved it i use it as a phone, with a Bluetooth headset most of the time. And i can use the phone apps as a normal phone without problem at all.
This tablet is great it remind me the first galaxy tab 7" witch i used it as phone too
And the size is not a problem for me i have big hands. And the best is it surprisingly ligh, i didnt check if its true but it feel like lighter that the note 5 of my wife.
Now im puzzel if i root it or not
