- What are the changes, improvements, new features?
- How is the memory footprint compared to .210?
- Any known bugs from previous .210 remaining?
No need answers like: "Performance improvements", "smoother interface", better user experience", and any other moniker like these.
Is it me or do I miss something?
I tried it for 3 days. I fail to see the progress. I didn't not experience a better user experience, memory management is horrible, bugs not eliminated.
If I'd plan to run 4.3 I'd use the Lite .210 ROM from Doenen.

Okay, now thats a simplistic version of my question. An expanded version:
What modifications have to be made to a ROM base for it to be a totally new ROM? And what sets apart the ROM from its base upon completion? And what are the limits of what you can use as a ROM base?
A rom has a lot of tweaks and changes made to the code. These can be evening from changing the way ram is handled to enabling tethering. The rom base can be anything but the more different the hardware is the harder it will be to make it compatible

My stab at answering
To be technical, what makes a ROM a ROM is that it is software that gets wirtten into the "read only" section of the phone's memory. In its simplest form a ROM is changes made to the OS software that are beyond what a user can do wile unrooted.
I've seen some ROMs that are little more then glorified themes, and we've had a few here that were changes to everything but.
I would say that any changes that make a noticeable difference in how the phone functions or what can be done with the phone are enough to consider it a different ROM. For our phone these typically include: Mobile AP/tethering enabled, "lag fix" -ext- file system support, lock screen changes, minor tweaks to things like memory management / CPU management, and a few smaller changes like different notification bar icons.
What really makes one ROM different the next is the dev who mods it.
As for what can be used as a base, well anything really. You can use any source you'ed like or even no source as all, as one dev here has done. One problem is that if you use an already existing ROM without getting the original dev's permission it may lead to a conflicts over "stolen code". Another problem is that if the base is not written to work on a specific phone a lot of modding will be needed to get it to run, and even more will be needed to further work out changes in hardware so it runs w/o crashing, freezing, FC'n all over the place.
One last thing to note: there is a big difference between the improvements in performance (speed, battery life, etc) that can be made with a ROM, as compared to a kernel. And much of what we really notice as improvements from one ROM to the next is actually related to the kernel the dev has chosen to include with the ROM and tweaks made to optimize it for the kernel.
As per the title, I'd like to have your opinions on the most stable custom rom for day to day use and state WHY you feel so.
This would mean that it is nearly bug free. Would be great if you guys could share the pros n cons of each custom rom of that you have used
ie pros - no reboots, no incoming call vol issue
cons - network operators showing as unknown
Bear in mind its about daily use so great gaming experience n nenamark dont matter.
Thank you all so much for your opinions!
to me the most efficient rom is Sharp ROM for daily use. I root it and removed the bloatwares, and I got the most efficient ROM, be it touch smoothness, speed or battery backup. I use to get rare occasional restart, might be due to removal of many system applications.
pros : it is stock rom, so everything is working, no issues whatsoever.
cons : no oc custom kernel ( doesn't matter to me, normally I use to keep it underclocked) . can't tell about gaming experience with it.
PS : I installed 'Notification Toggle ' from market to get toggles, shortcut or direct applications from the notification bar. it is more than what we get in miui /cm7 notification bar. for 4-way boot I use 'power ' from one of FR 's miuis. I use GO launcher, contact and SMS and happy.
I really dont like this kind of threads. It become quickly out of control. And every rom is good, depending of your personal preferences and use. And the work of every developer is respectable. And already exist a similar thread. So I am closing this. Just one advice: try all, and decide by yourself. Best regards,
HI
Can anyone point me to an objective review of Samsung Stock ICS on the G Note?
There seem to be lots of conflicting reports. I would like to know
- Is the battery life really worse or is it just that a battery calibration procedure needs to be done?
- Does the 'Possible bricked device if reset done' problem applies to all roms or NOT?
- How much better are the S-Pen apps?
- What are the functional improvements - E.g. Better camera tap to focus?, Smoother / faster graphics?
- What exactly is worse compared to GB (Gingerbread) ?
Thanks
differences between GB and ICS are many and make the best use of daily ICS .. the battery is sufficient to calibrate here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=765609 .. .. , spenn the app does not work with all cooked rom.. The rotation has improved in this latest update, devices, improved screen rotation, multitasking seems faster and there have been improvements to the application of the screen, multitasking seems faster and there have been improvements to the application of the camera. Most of the changes are not immediately visible and are very specific, but make ICS camera. Most of the changes are not immediately visible and are very specific, but make ICS an operating system more complete, smooth and satisfying. A video of pocketnow shows us all the news.
Battery better?
noob here, but dun quite see that installing ice cream sandwich helps with battery life...
this is wat happened to my battery life...any any input anyone?
the long gap of inactivity in Screen is when i was sleeping, but even after closing all apps, off wifi, off data, off bluetooth, my battery went from 70% to 40% over 1 night, in less than 8 hours...wats going on?
coming from bricking
I had a bad experience installing RR5...Bricked the phone ..unbricked using ketang method.. using different pit on odin 1.85 flashing stock rom...
Now I'm on RR6 ..but lost about 4GB of internal memory... note is smooth and fast... and I'm about to flash speedmode 3.3...
Coming from Darkyrom gingerbrad... few things are missing... the most important one is the launcher on landscape mode...
Installed emmc check which stated my chip to be insane but the sectors i use to be OK.
We live and learn
(by the way I did follow all the instruction for a full wipe)...

For me, battery life is no different. Some people have reported worse battery, but I'm not sure if this is down to the ICS install or something else.

AFAIK, all Samsung ICS roms have the potential to cause the eMMC bug and brick your device when a factory reset/full wipe is done.

The S-Pen apps are a little better, nothing huge but if you're a heavy S-Pen user you'll probably be happy with the improvements.

Functionally, ICS on the Note is incredibly similar to GB. The TouchWiz UI and framework are identical, which is a shame as from a usability perspective it doesn't feel like an update. The only functional improvements imo are a better range of options in the Settings app and the ability to install ICS only apps (like Chrome beta).

I think ICS isn't as snappy as GB, especially with widget scrolling in social hub and agenda.
Thanks Nos0x - I do use the S-Pen apps but I would like significant improvements there.
I think I'll stick with GB for now.
Hi. Can anybody who flashes regularly give me a brief comparison of the current versions of dmod, benzrom and enox? Pros cons etc.
Is this kind of topic allowed? They all contain init.d and build prop tweaks etc, I want to know about smoothness, ram, bugs, user opinions etc.
Any brief summaries are welcome and of course if somebody wants to give me a long read I'd be happy to and discuss
P.S. Keep it cool, clean and fair?

all of them are buggy ****, ****ty (not even working) unoptimized init.d causing problems, deodexed ****holes driving down the performance noticeably. battery life is ****ing horrible exept enox revenge, but enox also contains problems in non working widgets etc. (hope v5.0 is usable).
benz => ****ing ****ty bull**** ugly interface buggy options etc
dmod=> ****ty nonworking init.d, ugly interface, battery drainage by failed debloat
enox => its decent but nonworking widgets, failed debloating, slowed down cuz deodex, and fail init.d, this is the only rom having potential to develop to best rom, and better than rooted stock etc
rooted stock is the god tier option until theres fully working CM / PAC / AOSP ? or one of the roms gets really better (benz, enox, dmod).
peace. just the facts.

actually dmod is one of best roms here , i'm using it and everything works , init.d also working , and where you seen "ugly interface"? i found it excellent and is same interface like standard stock ( almost ) use a launcher and you will get off ( nova launcher prime ) , and about battery it keeps me up 3 days even with wifi on use a prompt apps to set your phone ( du battery saver - set it to airplane mode during night so you can save some battery ) otherwise everything is excelent and is moving fast ,flawless not even freezes .
Well I wanted to keep it clean but I enjoyed the responses so far (om a natural pessimist) and you're roughly both correct. Deodex degrades overall performance and the debloats are mostly failed (always re-debloat them myself after installation), init.d tweaks have caused me problems.. Although I don't mind the user interfaces I am starting to think rooted stock is the best option unless somebody makes a real barebones option...

BenzROM lots of useful features however i find that some are more than what I need
DmonROM nice look and feel, just a bit of a heavy ROM not suited to my requirements
enoxROM nice look and feel, could do with a few more tweaks and features
barebones ROM is what i was aiming for with my FaustROM, which ended up being a bit of a fail so have not done any additional work on it
instead have done a mod/port of the enox ROM which I have used some of the apks but used most of the other stuff from my original FaustROM
i get decent battery time, decent performance playing games like FF6 and Iron Man 3 without any lag
Hi everyone,
Am currently on EMUI 9 (.241) I have been through the threads of custom roms in this forum but I see that almost all of them need some specific version of EMUI 9 as base before one can flash those roms. I was wondering the following:
1> If any rom would work directly for me on my current EMUI 9 version.
2> How are the roms compared to EMUI when it comes to battery life, native camera app & stability mostly. I do not care much about NFC or dual speakers.
Emui is more optimised for the cpu than custom roms.
Hi
My experience between stocks, and custom (CypherOS, and Lineage)
Performance
You can check the benchmarks. with performance mood, stock
Is better, normal mood AOSCP is better
Battery
(Stock is better)
Have no screenshots, but for my case it's significantly better in stocks.
Hardware Compatibility:
(Stock wins)
I switched saying the same -i don't need USB headphones, dual speaker or NFC-
But for me I realized u only miss what u don't have. Sound quality is inferior and NFC is not compatible with extended bytes (I use it for official NFC cards)
One more thing, cameras API was exported and one thing that is not working is RAW pictures.
My verdict
As long we don't have a open source Huawei kernel and drivers I would stick with Huawei.
What I did though is
CPL lunchers
Root/Magisk passes safety net
Deleted/disabled Huawei bloatware background services.
Hope this is informative.
Thanks, much appreciated. Am currently rooted on EMUI 9 with just the right amount of customization. Was wondering if custom roms would give better performance and battery life and if it's worth the effort to install one. Your reply makes sense.
