Hi. Can anybody who flashes regularly give me a brief comparison of the current versions of dmod, benzrom and enox? Pros cons etc.
Is this kind of topic allowed? They all contain init.d and build prop tweaks etc, I want to know about smoothness, ram, bugs, user opinions etc.
Any brief summaries are welcome and of course if somebody wants to give me a long read I'd be happy to and discuss
P.S. Keep it cool, clean and fair?

all of them are buggy ****, ****ty (not even working) unoptimized init.d causing problems, deodexed ****holes driving down the performance noticeably. battery life is ****ing horrible exept enox revenge, but enox also contains problems in non working widgets etc. (hope v5.0 is usable).
benz => ****ing ****ty bull**** ugly interface buggy options etc
dmod=> ****ty nonworking init.d, ugly interface, battery drainage by failed debloat
enox => its decent but nonworking widgets, failed debloating, slowed down cuz deodex, and fail init.d, this is the only rom having potential to develop to best rom, and better than rooted stock etc
rooted stock is the god tier option until theres fully working CM / PAC / AOSP ? or one of the roms gets really better (benz, enox, dmod).
peace. just the facts.

actually dmod is one of best roms here , i'm using it and everything works , init.d also working , and where you seen "ugly interface"? i found it excellent and is same interface like standard stock ( almost ) use a launcher and you will get off ( nova launcher prime ) , and about battery it keeps me up 3 days even with wifi on use a prompt apps to set your phone ( du battery saver - set it to airplane mode during night so you can save some battery ) otherwise everything is excelent and is moving fast ,flawless not even freezes .
Well I wanted to keep it clean but I enjoyed the responses so far (om a natural pessimist) and you're roughly both correct. Deodex degrades overall performance and the debloats are mostly failed (always re-debloat them myself after installation), init.d tweaks have caused me problems.. Although I don't mind the user interfaces I am starting to think rooted stock is the best option unless somebody makes a real barebones option...

BenzROM lots of useful features however i find that some are more than what I need
DmonROM nice look and feel, just a bit of a heavy ROM not suited to my requirements
enoxROM nice look and feel, could do with a few more tweaks and features
barebones ROM is what i was aiming for with my FaustROM, which ended up being a bit of a fail so have not done any additional work on it
instead have done a mod/port of the enox ROM which I have used some of the apks but used most of the other stuff from my original FaustROM
i get decent battery time, decent performance playing games like FF6 and Iron Man 3 without any lag

First of all, Sorry! I know this question was asked like billion times over and over, and the amount of opinions is equal to the amount of the people who comment, but still.
Currently I'm running stock deodexed XXJVO ROM with CF-Root kernel.
The phone never was stable 100%, but the last days are horrible. Waze stuck (need hard reboot), phone turns off at night (=I dont have alarm clock = I late to work), it FCs and/or reboots randomly.
Now I want to get clear about the ROMs. There are 2 kind of them:
1. ROMs based on stock Samsung roms
2. ROMs based on Googles roms (like miui and CM)
Am I right?
Right now I don't have time nor the interest to play with really custom roms (miui/cm) since I'm not sure how stable they are (am I wrong about their stability?).
I just need phone that calls, surfs the web, sends sms, take photos, records videos and allows me to use GPS for navigation while I drive. For this reason I prefer to go with the roms based on stock Samsung roms (again correct me if I'm wrong. Maybe roms like MIUI/CM are stable enough for day-day use without flashing and reflashing the nightly every few days).
I need suggestion for either full ROM or combination of ROM and Kernel that will unleash the full potential of my phone with the minimum lags/FCs/reboots/etc.
From fast reading here I understood that Semaphore kernel is good enough (of course any other suggestions are welcomed). What do you think about combining it with stock deodexed ROM? Or maybe you have other more preferable ROMS (I don't have any preference to specific rom, however there are some things I can't live without and they are: a) NON increasing ringtone b) preferably root c) Ability to theme the phone, All other fixes/tweaks are optional and are in state of "nice to have").
Thanks a lot for reading this long posts, understand me and helping!
Have a good day and an awesome weekend!
I think you should try stock jvu and latest Semaphore kernel.
And convert to ext4.
That's fast enough.
BTW MIUI and CM7 are very fast and stable.
**tapatalked with galaxy s on CNA and Glitch kernel**
Flash mint berry miui, it's fast and will fit your requirements
Thanks for the replies!

Stock JVU you mean stock, or stock and deodexed?
Should I bother and try MIUI/CM? (As I understood there is also ICS ROMs, what are those?)
hassaan123
Thanks, Ill consider this. Tough I'm a bit afraid about MIUI/CM since those are different ROMs.
More comments are welcomed!
Team ICSSGS RC4.2 the best for we till now
i wouldnt prefer miui/cm for gps. i used mintberry for 2 months but after the first weeks of pure stabilty it began to random reboot more than twice a day. reflash, new version everytime the same.
the ram management was also horrible in my eyes. i dont really like the cm kernels. they are updated too fast and it seems that they are never really stable for some reason. my battery life was horrible on miui. also annoying is that you always has to clear your memory manually before you want to play a game which isnt even in 3D. plus 720p is always choppy because they want to use more ram which is taken from the reserved memory for video recording. ah the compass isnt working too sometimes... depends on kernel but i didnt find a kernel which works
i am back on darky 10.4.2 with semaphore kernel. darkcore is also very good kernel with good stabilty and battery but i dont use it because i need voodoo color for my display...
especially for you skwo i would prefer the base versions from darky. they are kinda pure samsung with some tweaks and then you can try the dark core which is brought with and if you dont like it switch to semaphore. the standart theme is also very decent and if you dont like you can still customize your phone with the ota app such as things like camera hack (that annoying under 10% thingy that doesnt let you use your cam) or the exteneded toggepanel.
i understand good what you want. i mean its really cool to have such a great community which is working on so much roms but they are too heavy customized sometimes. everything seems so overloaded and the most skins doesnt fit with they own colors they use. i mean there are so much ics themed roms but with 15 different blue tones, that doesnt look "professional" and make android look like a bad designed mess
Kodon
Thanks a lot for this helpful reply!
I heard the same about MIUI/CM/ICS ROMs, that they lack 720p video recording (which is sort of important to me), and how some issues with GPS, and not stable enough.
Yea I tried darky once, didn't like it. I consider trying it again (with maybe different kernel).
The theme is not that important to me, I just put some AOSP theme that adds the battery percentage indicator. I used to play with the phone few months ago (was a ROM hopper and liked to customize it), these days I'm too busy for all this and just need a smart-phone that works.

You can try Faryaab's jvu (deodexed&rooted). It's hear in general section.
I think a jvu/cm9/miui rom is better for you than ics, coz they are bit buggy.

CM7 battery life is not good and call is not stable like rock.
MIUI battery life is better than CM7 but is not good. Call is rock
MIUI / CM7 video recording 720P is sucks. (temp fix = Change bit rate to 1000000)
ICS video playback is bad and some apps will not work or FC. (still on development)
Stock battery is good / call is stable / video playback and 720 recoding is good / but speed is low.
There is not a BEST ROM for all things.
If u can be happy with low speed stocks are awesome.
Best way: Try one to one all ROMs and choose the best for self needs.

if you try every rom for sgs you are busy for the next 2 years. the most roms are in the first week very good till every app fills their cache and the partition is getting fragmented. the only method in my eyes to see if a rom is good is to use it for 3-4 weeks. even the battery does need 2-3 loading cycles which can take 4-5 days if the battery use is good and you want to see how it works when its recalibrated after flash.
especially we galaxy s users need to see others opinion in a thread like that. you really cant go through every thread and search for feedback between the whole bug reports and advices for bootloops
I can't decide between stock XXJVU (also not sure if I want the deodexed one) or DarkyRom or some other simple ROM that based on JVU (like SauroM). Any suggestions?
Go for stock jvu, odexed, add andip's theme, remove bloatware, use go launcher with ics theme, semaphore kernel 2.5.0 with ext4
Doesn't get any better than this

Why so many post ?
Try MIUI (mintberry is very good) and revert to stock rom if you aren't happy.
MIUI has a lot of new things : it's not only the launcher and themes; Miui based on Ginger is stable. I try regulary to return to stock rom and every time I reflash an MIUI, too many things are missing on stock roms or CM7 !
Hi,
I recently got this phone and upgraded it to android 2.3 (V20N), but with both FroYo and Gingerbread, the phone seems to be a bit slow. Opening application list, opening apps, or even just switching desktop screens is not as smooth as i would expect it to be. Everything has a little bit of lag to it, and and switching desktop screen is a little bit choppy, not perfectly smooth...
My brother has very cheap Samsung Galaxy Mini, and every single action on his phone is a lot more fluid, responds instantly with no lag, and animations are perfectly smooth.
I think LG messed up when customizing Android for this phone. My question is... is there any way to make OS run as fast as on Samsung Galaxy Mini for example? Is there any stock android ROM available without any LG bloat added?
Thanks in advance.
It seem you have some app, which consumes your power. Try the app betterbatterystats here from the forum to identify this app. Normaly these kind of apps are realy strong battery eater.
The hotmail app is normaly a "hot" candidate of a trash app.
If you don't have success make a factory reset, of course make before a backup of your personal data.
And everytime you have the option to change to a cooked Rom like Zeuss by Huexxx. This Rom rocks!
No, i dont have any demanding apps running on background. I have battery stats app where i see that nothing consumes power, and also my battery usually lasts for over 4 days, so i dont think there is any problem with that.
The problem is that the system overall is not nearly as smooth and responsive as galaxy mini, which has a lot worse HW specs, yet it responds a lot quicker and all animation are a bit smoother. For example, in LG-edited android, pinch gesture on desktop causes very laggy animation. Widged browser by LG has very laggy scrolling and moving icons around desktop in edit mode is laggy too. Everything by LG is just laggy, and whole system doesnt respon indstantly, but with some delays.
It is not the smooth experience i want it to be.
I also want either clean Android rom, or original vendor ROM. I dont want any customized third party ROMs, for several reasons:
1, Zeus is overclocked. I hate that, it decreases hardware lifespan.
2, While ROM cooks are usually skilled editors and programmers, they are really bad designers, and usually design appearance of ROM to their own taste with no uniform aesthetics and design that would look professional. I want a professional visual design, and those unfortunately in most of the cases come only from the Google or vendors (HTC, samsung...) themselves.
3, ROM cooks usually include a lot of their bloatware. Vendors do too, i know, but in their case, those additions at least have some unified ideology.
4, Most of the custom ROMs are usually rooted. I simply don't want that.
Oh, and i forgot to add. I hate the performance of the stock ROM even right after factory reset. I did factory reset several times. But it doesn't solve speed issue by any means. The OS is just slower and laggier by its nature. The way LG altered it.
Zeus is overclock-able but by default runs on max 1000.
Give it a try. I try many rooms and always come back to it for the smooth running.
And yes LG have screwed big time the poor black on the software side.
First show this video of a stock v20, if your fone is a lot slower, give it back, to repair or to get one new or another: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CV_uYbs0PfE&list=UU7YbxG8ZoH2OBuLc-v-VTSQ&index=3&feature=plcp
It isn't your/our job to make it work.
Over cooked ROM Zeus, base on LG v20:
1. It isn't overlocked, but you can if you want.
2. It´s nice, but you have a lot of themses to select. Original LG, ICS...
3. It have no bloadware. It is realy clean and have a costumice tool. Everything can be modified to everyone needs.
4. Everyones onwn decision.
and it is a lot more fluid that the stock one.
Ok, gotta try zeus.

If you have a hardwareproblem I would'n root. Compare with above linked video. If yours is slower, give your phone back.
Well, unfortunatelly it seems that i order to instal Zeus ROM, i would need to root my phone, and i dont want to do that.
Also, yes... my phone runs exactly as fast as in the video above, but it is still not nearly as fast as Galaxy Mini.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UVomy_hEjpM&feature=relmfu
This is video of Galaxy Mini, it responds a lot quicker, and also animations are a lot smoother than in case of P970. Especially the pinch animation on desktop for example
I don't see a difference between the Mini in the video to mine OB with Zeus. Consider that the OB has 5x more resolution than the mini.
What you can try is another launcher like Zeam Launcher, Launcher Pro or Go Launcher. All the three works more fluid than LGs one.
Regards.
Which one of the 3 would you recommend/consider fastest?

In order of appearance faster->slower, but also from some features to complex. Make a try they are simpel to install and to deinstall all 3 works good. I actually prefer 360 launcher due its features, but it isn't fast.
Ok, thank you very much. Launcher was indeed the problem. I tried all 3 and I am sticking with Launcher Pro as it seems to be fastest of the 3. My phone finally feels snappy. Thanks!
HI
Can anyone point me to an objective review of Samsung Stock ICS on the G Note?
There seem to be lots of conflicting reports. I would like to know
- Is the battery life really worse or is it just that a battery calibration procedure needs to be done?
- Does the 'Possible bricked device if reset done' problem applies to all roms or NOT?
- How much better are the S-Pen apps?
- What are the functional improvements - E.g. Better camera tap to focus?, Smoother / faster graphics?
- What exactly is worse compared to GB (Gingerbread) ?
Thanks
differences between GB and ICS are many and make the best use of daily ICS .. the battery is sufficient to calibrate here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=765609 .. .. , spenn the app does not work with all cooked rom.. The rotation has improved in this latest update, devices, improved screen rotation, multitasking seems faster and there have been improvements to the application of the screen, multitasking seems faster and there have been improvements to the application of the camera. Most of the changes are not immediately visible and are very specific, but make ICS camera. Most of the changes are not immediately visible and are very specific, but make ICS an operating system more complete, smooth and satisfying. A video of pocketnow shows us all the news.
Battery better?
noob here, but dun quite see that installing ice cream sandwich helps with battery life...
this is wat happened to my battery life...any any input anyone?
the long gap of inactivity in Screen is when i was sleeping, but even after closing all apps, off wifi, off data, off bluetooth, my battery went from 70% to 40% over 1 night, in less than 8 hours...wats going on?
coming from bricking
I had a bad experience installing RR5...Bricked the phone ..unbricked using ketang method.. using different pit on odin 1.85 flashing stock rom...
Now I'm on RR6 ..but lost about 4GB of internal memory... note is smooth and fast... and I'm about to flash speedmode 3.3...
Coming from Darkyrom gingerbrad... few things are missing... the most important one is the launcher on landscape mode...
Installed emmc check which stated my chip to be insane but the sectors i use to be OK.
We live and learn
(by the way I did follow all the instruction for a full wipe)...

AFAIK, all Samsung ICS roms have the potential to cause the eMMC bug and brick your device when a factory reset/full wipe is done.

The S-Pen apps are a little better, nothing huge but if you're a heavy S-Pen user you'll probably be happy with the improvements.

Functionally, ICS on the Note is incredibly similar to GB. The TouchWiz UI and framework are identical, which is a shame as from a usability perspective it doesn't feel like an update. The only functional improvements imo are a better range of options in the Settings app and the ability to install ICS only apps (like Chrome beta).

I think ICS isn't as snappy as GB, especially with widget scrolling in social hub and agenda.
Thanks Nos0x - I do use the S-Pen apps but I would like significant improvements there.
I think I'll stick with GB for now.

The question should be addressed to the author, he'd know the best. But as he reffered to zeppelinrox regarding this matter, it might be assumed that improvements are regarding charger and launcher. Zeppelinrox describes these changes like features that "makes your phone fast, super snappy with better multitasking".

Hello,

All is perfectly working !

My question might be a bit too silly, but I've had an LG Optimus Black and the more you tweaked it, the better it got. However, it started to fade because of the Overclock, gps-wise and 3g-wise, everything was getting really dark. So, I decided to buy once and only an SGS3 and it died 3 days later, it literally died, nobody knows why. It IS a good phone, batter lasts about 8hs, and has a lot of power. It lags, which i didn't expect and it does not perform as well on wi-fi as a true quad core should perform. My point is: whatever it is that you do, the RAZR i does it just so fast, so good, it is like a train, maybe not the fastest and not the biggest but the most efficient. Does this phone get EVEN better by rooting/flashing custom ROMs? I'm starting to think that it just won't. The hardware seems to be polished at its maximum and working in perfect harmony.

Hi,
In my opinion it gets better if it is rooted as there are some apps I use like Titanium Backup or Root explorer. Currently I do not see a need to flash a custom rom for some reasons. The phone is fast, stable and the battery lasts for at least 2 days however the architecture is x86 as you probably know. This could be the reason why the phone is not in focus of devs. Nevertheless there is the first custom rom.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2191769
Whatever you do, if the phone is running ICS and you are planning to upgrade to JB I recommend to do this first.
Can anyone provide screenshot of the rom please

You got a point. It really doesn't get faster, because its already fastest as it could be. But this ROM gave me a better battery performance, and the fact that it its deodexed gives us more liberty to tweak around. But it isn't a must, like in other devices, have a custom ROM to get a good performance. Whit RAZR i its just a choice...

Custom brightness coming soon...
Just a quick heads up regarding the brightness settings in this rom: it uses the standard brightness curves, which are far too bright.
I am working on new brightness curves for this rom, which I have working on my phone, and I will make them available very soon.
In the meantime, do not flash my modified framework-res.apk (from Matt's thread) on this rom: the mountpoint settings are different, and it work at all you will likely lose access to the internal storage.
I think the same... I'm a newbie, but I had HTC one S, Motorola Atrix 4g, this one is winning talking about battery and performance all around. I would have appreciated a better camera, but that's it. I really enjoy it, missing just some custom rom for playing a bit with, but Max Choco's has started this way for this great toy.
Thank you...

Any news about the brightness curves ????
I used lolipop most of the time on my S5 mini but I also used marshmallow recently. Even with all **** disabled there are still very noticable delays when I switch between applications and scrolling isn't smooth, some transitions are not as smooth either.
I'm using Slim6 at the moment and first thing I noticed when is that it's so smooth. For a while I thought this phone's hardware is too weak for system or it should run it damn smooth. On another hand I see phones like J5 2016 from Samsung which has Marshmallow preinstalled and it's so much smoother than my S5 mini ever was.
So my question is what causes the system to preform so slow and not as smooth as one would like? And it can't be bloatware because even if you disable and uninstall all of that **** it still runs just as bad.

Stock Lolipop is full of bloatware, and the problem is, this software runs mostly in Backgroud, even if you don't use it.
Wow I'm actually shocked. After removing around 20 Google and Samsung crap that came preinstalled using Bloatware removing tools I can actually feel the difference in smoothness and device is a lot more fun to use. Again understameted what all those annoying apps from Samsung and Google can do.

What app and with what parameters (setup) have you used for debloating?
Nevermind it's getting slow overtime still. ****.
It's the kernel, don't use Samsung stock kernel. I've got a G800Y variant and that sh*t was as slow as a fkn fliptop I swear. I've got the following on mine:
- Xposed (23/87.1 for Samsung) <- Personally, this is also partly to do with being able to maintain everything, there's a module called like 100M+ Memory Saver (module list below)
- No Google Play Services/Play Store/Location/ANYTHING (even using Yalp Store as an alternative to that cancerous bundle of leaching bloatware)
- Hopefully sometime soon the open source OpenLauncher gets fixed up sometime soon, swear its the best of every Launcher -Performance draining features/+Free and it's pretty tidy too (but broken)
- HEBF Optimizer (Free - XDA), not sure about this one but the UI is tidy and it's got some good stuff, personally used to 3C but I have both installed
Running on the SpookyCity v2.5 CM13 Kernel (you have to CM-Auto-Root to get an install without that dirty blue/red in the top left and fix up some root permission issues I was getting), with LineageOS 13.0. Don't install addonsu, pretty sure I got it going using some divine blessing with SuperSU 2.79.
Xposed Modules
- 100M+ Memory Saver
- 3C Toolbox Pro (Free/Paid - Xposed/Play/$9.99) [Xposed-capable] little outdated, but it's got a whole bunch of options for lazy/new/any user
- Adblocker Reborn
- All My...
- Android N-ify
- FS Keyboard
- Xposed Settings Injector
Even though it states the G800F Kernel is just that, for the F model, I managed to get it going primo, gonna see what RR is like so I'll prob do a guide on that to be honest, all I know is this phone was never going this fast before I threw a custom Kernel on it, exponential speed increase.
Sounds like a lot of work. Will keep that in mind but he also made great rom that works really well for now Slim7 which also offers stock UI which looks so much better than lolipop skin from Samsung, so I'm gonna hopefully be able to stick with that.

Just to be noted, that was with a G800Y. That variant doesn't seem to have too much support but I haven't really found anything other than the bands to be that different between the two although I can't seem to get this '1500MHz' clock speed I've seen here and there.
Since I last posted, I installed got rid of MM - the features are great but I have a friend who's running N and their battery life is more than double what it was stock or MM. So I factory reset (TWRP - No need to lose your pictures etc, just make sure to make a .vcf back up of your contacts), flashed the SpookyCity v2.5 RR Kernel and threw on the latest build of Resurrection Remix (2.8.4). No need to opt into the Google scam or anything stock that Samsung has to offer, just use Yalp Store*.
Sure I've lost a handful of features from Xposed, but with a phone that ranges from 35C - 45C combined with a battery life of ~8 hours, kinda worth it. Resurrection Remix is a combination of LOS and another ROM (Resurrection *something*) and it runs flawless. No need for Google because that's the real killer..
*Yalp Store - Featured on the F-Droid repository, you can log in using alt. credentials or even your own (at your own risk!), if you want purchased apps you can use APK Extractor (F-Droid) OR buy it via PS website and use your login. Google isn't in the picture when it comes to enhancing your phones performance, however you can still use the pixel launcher in RR 2.8.4, and if you're curious as to what you can use instead of the Google search engine try DuckDuckGo
