[Q] Z1 Display broken -> Selfrepair - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys!
As the Title says, my display is broken.
I dont know how it happend actually but there are cracks all over the place:silly:
The Screen (Display) itself works but the touchscreen is not working.
My Question is: Is it enough to buy just the Digitizer or should I replace the whole display.
The difference in terms of money to spend are pretty big.
I thought about something like this:
Screen: http://www.ebay.at/itm/Neu-Digitize...zer_Ersatzteile_Werkzeuge&hash=item3ce4df392d
Sealing: http://www.ebay.at/itm/Sony-Xperia-...zer_Ersatzteile_Werkzeuge&hash=item3f392ed01d
Backcover: http://www.ebay.at/itm/Original-Akk...zer_Ersatzteile_Werkzeuge&hash=item4ad9038970
Repairstuff: http://www.ebay.at/itm/Repair-Tools...zer_Ersatzteile_Werkzeuge&hash=item3f336a48d9
Is there anything else?
Best Regards
IJOJOI

Yes and no...
If you manage to take it apart and it doesn't break you can use old parts.
Digutizer and glass are glued together and it could be problem to separate them.
Have that problem on XU so I'm quite sure you'll have it on Z/Z1/Z2

The glass + digitizer are dead. I wanted to replace them together.. The only thing I dont need is the LCD Display.

Oh...sorry...I was reading in the car...
I'm not sure for that...
Check YouTube and see, if they aren't glued together there's no reason why you shouldn't use old LCD..
If you can find it separate, of course...

my own exp on replacing:
z1 is one of the easiest phones to change LCD i think
just need a little notice and focus
here is the linked that i followed to replace my lcd :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gVALfBNvpOA&noredirect=1
+ first dont forget not damaging the frame when opening the back glass. try putting the the blue thing in the second mic to open it.
+ try to do the replacement in a dust free room to avoid some problems.
+ clean the lcd back for sure bcoz just one little dust on back of display can make the display pressed( changes color to black ) when pushing the display a little bit hard.
+ as you are trying to install the new lcd ,for sure seal it tight, because you may see some light from the cracks( the issue i'm suffering from) .after replacing it push it for a little long to make the glue works good and avoid problems
+ when closing the phone again try to clean the camera lens and the camera glass on the back cover to avoid image quality loss
+ for sure glue around the camera and led flash so so so tight bcoz if the back glass dont fit well , the flash's light will cover the lens while trying to take pics with flash and the image will be a garbage . ( you can put a kind of black sheet or sth between the camera and lens to avoid this)
these were all my personal issues on replacement ..
hope you dont have them
hope it be helpful..

[Q] Camera lens scratches

Hello, so yesterday i noticed some scratches on the camera lens and i can feel them with fingernails. So i googled about scratches on lens and almost everywhere they said it does not affect pictures that much but when i try to take pics with my SP they turn out to be fuzzy/blurry.Im afraid the warranty doesnt cover it too
Any advice what should i do?
Sorry for my english and if this thread is in the wrong section feel free to move it
after 2 months the camera lens looks terrible. im not using protective case but it is in pocket on its own no keys or lighter next to it. somehow the camera LENS got nice scratches. there is a purple color shine on the lens like on eyeglasses which supposed to be scratch resistant layer but it has gone completely. since the lens is not covered physically i have to clean the fine dust off the lens to take photo. what i see the on closer look is that the scratches are drawing circles that makes me think the lens is so soft material that the cleaning causing the scratches. i guess its plastic. i havent checked it yet but after replacing it ill do a test. i ve found on sony support forum a link where u can buy replacement lens which is by description 100% glass.
interesting that the screen itself is very durable but this tiny round lens is a crap. disappointing from sony. very stupid mistake of chosing this material for such a nice phone. i am thinkin to call them and make a complaint. :crying:
Yup, mine is scratched too, every photo looks like Joan Collins c1986.
I believe it's just stuck on so should be easy to replace.

faulty assembly?
My mate said that purple layer is a kinda filter (flare,uv or whatever) supposed to face to camera. Is that possible?

or on ebay.
I have the same problem, and I just bought one.
Here's a question for people who have changed it : do you have to unscrew the back of the phone (not just the back cover) or can you change it directly ?
From what I've seen, the lens and the "camera ring" might be "glued" directly, but might as well have to come off from the inside.
Another thing, there's one screw that's not directly visible, it's under the antenna, at the bottom of the phone...
Some help would be really appreciated !
Thx
I managed to get the ring off with just my finger nails, the ring and lens are two separate pieces, when the ring is off, the glass sits in a recess, so may be a bit tricky to remove.

Is there any purple coating on the replacement lens? If no than its just a plain glass and not like the original. I will just polish off the coating. On photo there is sharp area just as the clean area of the lens.
Thanks for the tip @technaudio.
@r1kkHUN : I'll tell you when I get it, but since it's an original part, I guess it'll be there, i'd make no sense otherwise.
Good luck with the polishing, I'm affraid I doubt it'll solve the problem though.
T cut or some fine rubbing compound that you polish a car with might work?

Hi.
Just got the new lens, and changed it.
Easy and fast, and the result is perfect, and for only 11€
There isn't any purple coating on the new one I got, but it seems to be okay, I'll try to take pictures in the sun as soon as the weather gets better.
I did a little guide about it on a french forum, if you want to have a look at the pictures.

[Q] Guide: Xperia V disassembly, how to repair broken display?

Hi,
the touch screen of my Xperia V is broken and I'd like to replace it myself. It's not the first time for me that I repair a mobile device myself, but without a disassembly guide, it is difficult for me to identify the parts that are fixed by glue. I don't want to break anything that is still working.
I already found a russian video on YouTube, but it seems to me that the display is not taken apart from the other parts of the device.
Has anyone here done it before?
Thanks in advance!

Hi,
I've managed to remove the display. Mainly because it was really damaged ... heating the display and "bending" with a small tool.
It's really hard as the glue is quite strong. As my replacement screen is "on it's way" I'm not able to finalize the work.
I'm kind of stuck in the part when removing the "middle, plastic" part...
display is connected to body with really strong glue. Remember that it is impossible to remove old display without breaking it. Second thing is that with new display the phone most likely will not be waterproof

Hi! I broke mine last night. How did your repair go when the part arrived? I also could only find the russian video without the screen being removed
How hot did you have to make the screen? I was thinking of using an iron with a cloth around it.
Hi Folks, I'm curious to hear how others are going - I managed to break my screen this last week, Hoping to replace it but so far taking out that glass seems to be a tricky thing - any suggestions? How did the iron and cloth go?

There's no way.... You need to buy a new housing with the LCD and touchscreen built in, and then move all your bits over. That's why the russian video of the guy removing everything doesn't remove the screen.

I just ordered this: http://www.parts4repair.com/complete-screen-assembly-for-sony-xperia-v-lt25i/ I will see how that goes. I got tired of using my old SG1 so it's time to fix the V...
Good luck. Careful with the tiny, white antennae cable running from the main board to the bottom. I twisted mine a little bit too much and the connector popped off. I had to go get a new one with much difficulty.

I replaced the screen - had it working for two days and dropped it again - cracked screen, doesn't even light up.
I now have another replacement screen and a better case - at least now I'm getting quicker at taking the phone apart....

Hi this wont work, I went through the exact same issue, and its impossible to attach the new screen properly. your best bet is to try and find a second hand screen via ebay. it has to have the "housing part with it. otherwise you are wasting your time. it cost me so much to fix mine as I ordered two screens in the end I could have bought a new phone on special....
Try Ebay, and make sure you see the one with the screen and front housing on, I am unable to port the correct link on here as I haven't made 10 posts yet.
Search for the following on ebay : Genuine Sony Ericsson Xperia V LT25i front+digitizer touch screen+LCD display
This should let you find the correct screen
Look at the picture you will see the side housing for the front is also installed, the one you have ordered is the incorrect one as its only the LCD and the Digitzer, without the front housing that it gets "glued" onto. You can see the main difference where the earpiece is its shown as black, hence the mesh is there. that would be the correct one to order. Unless you have the means of getting yours glued back on the same way as the factory, I see you will struggle to get it done otherwise.

back cover clicking noise when applying pressure

when i apply a little bit of pressure on the back glass, (for example for cleaning the glass) its start to make sounds, like clicking sounds, on the front it does not happen, just in the back, the sound is like when you have a door and you need to oil the hinges.... is it normal ??
another thing, when i apply pressure on the sony logo, its like you can bend it to touch the battery inside.. does that happen to you too ??
I'm super dissapointed so far from the build quality, i got a faulty screen (white horzintal hue on the bottom + few dead pixels) and now that cracking noise!
anyone else with the same problem? or is it normal ?

In my case probably I will solve with a fix from the update, but in your case, you will never fix it so if the phone is new with warranty, go now for a replacement, specially for the hue and dead pixels, maybe your are lucky and they will give you another device.

No, mine seem fine, maybe the only thing about I can't complain, but if you go via warranty and there is a lot to replace and also you will tell them about the back cover as well maybe they give you a new device without all this problems, and I am 99% sure this kind of device will be replaced with another one for you because they don't have so much time to open it all and replace the lcd, maybe but too much work, is not worth for them.
Go ask for a warranty replacement. My phone was replaced under warranty for the same white horizontal hue on the bottom of the screen/exactly where the soft keys are.
The new phone i got, has no problem whatsoever.

Z1 back glass replacement and waterproofness

Since my frame is bent and my back glass is broken I really have to replace them as the dust got between back glass and the camera rendering camera with flash useless.
I'm thinking about replacing it myself, but I'm worried if it's still going to be waterproof after I replace it.
Have any of you guys replaced the back glass by yourself? How's the waterproofness after you did that?
Water resistence will be gone for sure and back glass wont stick for long.time to time you have to push it back.
Sent from my C6603 using XDA Free mobile app
I'm talking about replacing it. Both bent frame and back glass. Have you done this?
No, they will keep the water-proof capablility of the phone. First they will replace the back, remove all the old glue and rubber gasket then replace all with new glue, etc...then use high compression machine press the back cover tight to the glue. Atleast that is the process of replace back cover in my local Sony center, not sure it's applied to all....And after repair they will allow you to put the phone into water to test...
FFS
My adhesive on the back just completely stopped holding the back glass. I can take it out by shaking the device a bit or even by picking it up. I'll be sending it for the repairs...
No more Z1 development, really.

Yeah. The worst thing is that I have to ship the phone on my own. I mean wrapping, talking with DHL and stuff like that to get it to authorised sony service ... -_-
Good thing is that although I'll pay a lot for the replacement of the frame and the back it will be waterproof again.
I'll send it in this weekend or at the begging of the next week.
If anyone would be interested in the state of my Z1 then here's what's wrong with it:
USB flap fell off again.
Back glass is broken
Main frame is bent
Middle frame is cracked
To fix it I'd have to buy:
Glue for middle frame, main frame
Back glass
USB flap
Middle frame
I'll propably fix it myself becaus the cost of doing this in the service would be propably as high as a new Z1. Too bad I'm not rich so I can't buy those parts yet.
If anyone is interested then I finally made pictures of my phone. At least the screen and the electronic hardware is allright.

I only had Xperia Play apart from Z1, flashed xperia S just few days ago, lol ^^
I didn't test it myself, but if you buy a genuine back glass assembly (that includes glue, you can buy this from, for example www.witrigs.com) and replace it properly, wait a week or so for the glue to align and stick properly it should still be waterproof. I did replace almost every part of my Z1, that is camera, back microphone, back glass - 2 times, minijack with proximity sensor, battery, main frame with all the buttons and flaps, speaker mesh and propably something else I don't really remember anymore. It doesn't matter anyway, what matters here is that if you replace middle frame - take close attention to the speaker mesh hole - the one from a phone has some sort of a gasket there, whereas the replacement one - doesn't and you can't really buy it separately. I bought the middle frame assembly from witrigs and it was also missing that gasket. Also, speaker mesh from witrigs is different from the one that was in the phone. These parts render my phone not waterproof anymore and I don't think you can buy replacements for it that would still make the phone waterproof, even if replaced with surgically perfect precision.
TL;DR
Back glass assembly (complete genuine replacement part with glue, nfc, camera etc. already on it) replacement, if done properly, may not cause your phone to lose it's waterproofness. At least from my experience.
Replacing main frame and speaker mesh, even new genuine will void it. Not because there were some mistakes in replacing them, they simply don't have all of the elements that the parts originally shipped with a new phone have. Replacing them will definitely remove its waterproofness. (with all parts from witrigs.com, that is very trusted to ship genuine, new replacement parts.
Just posting this so people googling around could find the answer.

Replacing the screen of my Z1 (C6903) suggestion wanted

Hi everyone!
Today i visited the sony care point to discover that my phone isn't covered by warranty anymore, due to fact the internal LCD had a crack (despite never dropped in recent times).
Anyway, no worries... my warranty will end in a couple of days.
So... I want to attempt to fix it myself. I'm not experienced, but I work all day mounting PCs and servers, i think this will be a little diffent but not too hard, right?
Can anyone suggest me how and where to buy the entire frame and the LCD of the phone? (I want to keep it waterproof)
I saw many websites, but I don't trust most of them, so a good reccomendation is really useful here.
Also, what set of tools is reccomended to do everything? (Can i use my hair dryer to unglue the screen?)
Many thanks and sorry for my english being so bad, is not my native language.
I'm not sure how to replace the screen on the Z1, but I'd warn you against relying on its waterproofing after replacing the screen. Unless you can perfectly fit the rubber seal so there's literally no gap, the water will enter your phone.
It can be waterproof but don't buy cheap replacement as they are not always properly glued tohether, if at all. Buy original lcd+digitizer+frame assembly and precut glue frames like this. Hair dryer should be enough.
I cracked my screen yesterday
Today i get it from the technician (not original sony, in my country is inexistent). So far so good, only i found one problem (waterproof lost of course) the WIFI signal power is down by -20dB. So, now i have problems connecting to distants wifi.
EDIT: Now wifi working normal again, just another trip to the technician
Also, my phone is black front & withe back now.

I got my water damaged lcd replaced with a Chinese 1st copy and it's working great, however my phone lost its waterproofing as back cover is having problem to be glued properly again

yea i replaced my screen and i think it messes with my sensors, im not entirely sure im still doing some analysis but like after some time (about 2 hours or so) my gyro, light and proximity sensors stop working until reboot.
one more thing. theres layers of stuff inside of the z1, its a bit complicated, even for me and i am a computer & phone tec. its all about the glue and remembering where they go. i didnt really do mine correctly so i lost my waterproofing. gluing it 100% like stock is very hard.
ans ps
DONT USE A HAIR DRYER!!!
it wont get hot enough to separate the screen (broke a galaxy s3 back in the day doing that) use a heat gun
