I guess thread title says it all...
In next few days I'm about to sell my dear Arc S, and I'm undecided between three phones:
Ion, T and V, with T being the most probable option.
Now, this might sound as a newbie question, which I'm not, but I would appreciate as many opinions as I can get.
Regarding choices, I'm in love with Ion's build quality, but on the other hand T and V are more recent phones, and therefore will probably have a bit longer life regarding updates. I love Xperia T design much more than V, but on the other side, removable battery and water resistance, heh...
This is really a tough call.
(Xperia SP was also a choice, but I will rather buy older flagship device than newer mid-ranger).
So, any word will be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I'm from Arc S to TX. After i just bought my TX I feel Wow! don't need to suffer for internal memory and I still remember everytime I jump out from apps to homescreen, it takes time to load the icon and content. Mmm.. So far I'm satisfied with my TX. Nowadays 1GB of ram consider just enough for average user like me so couldn't expect that much on your Xperia T too.
you coming from arc s? so i guess you like the arc design? you want a good relation smartphonesize-displaysize? and a low prize phone (how much in sarajevo? Germany around 270euro) ?
you like flashing custom roms, you like play around? check the forum sections
maybe then go with xperia T (CM Support, PAC Support, some other Port Roms, Miui v5, some stock based Roms, many Mods)
how save is the V waterproof feature? is it necessary to have that?
thats some questions i would ask myself if i want buy a new phone. (by the way theres a guessing around the net XT can maybe get 4.3 directly, skippin 4.2.2, but not 100%sure)
by the way i not have that icon loading problem joonlin write about. it would be a decent update
a little subjective end note from myself:
you want handgasms? then take the T

I love arc(h) design, that's the main reason I bought Arc S in the first place.
Yes, I care a lot about display size (and bezel size corelation), as I don't want a chocolade in my hands.
The price is basically the same then. It's about 520-540KM in sarajevo, which is about 270 Euros.
Of course the V's water-proof is not a killer feature to me, but removable battery is. Maybe I'm a bit paranoid, I don't know.
Like I said, Xperia T is the most probable option, and I already even ordered Nillkin case for it, from eBay.
I will report in next few days what I have bought. If I decide to go with T, then white one would be my preference.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4BtXZiVLtWc
maybe video like this help with the paranoid thoughts?
in worst case scenario you can change or let change the battery, also its possible to change backcover (there some shops in internet who sell custom backcovers)
heres a video with ion/T comparison (german, but you can see it in hands then )
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_yJnAP9DEk
I'm not afraid of disassembling the phone. I disassembled probably every piece of electronics/phones I ever had.
I just thought it's a bit easier to deal with all kinds of bricking and freezings of phone, when you have a removable battery, but I guess thats's part of paranoia too.
I guess it's clear then. T it's gonna be, 99%.
And one more thing to ask. Some reviews are mentioning that flap covering microSD and microSIM is a bit messy.
Like, once you open it, you never really get to close it ideally again. I guess this is not entirely true?
Aso, based on video comparison above, Ion seems to have a bit brighter display, with better viewing angles. But ok, this is not a dealbraker to me.
I upgraded to the T from the arc (not s). Arc was a awesome phone, with a fast and fluid ui (on gb) and a great camera. Ive used the arc for almost 2 years and i've had my T for 5 months now.
The T is a worthy upgrade, the phone is faster, i like the jellybean firmware and the screen is a big upgrade from arc. Also the 1gb ram is a big relieve since my arc would always run low on ram. The batterylife is also quite a lot better.
When i first got the T i thought it was pretty thick but thats actually kind of nice. The T feels more stable in your hand because of its thickness and rubber back. The arc felt a little fragile (which it wasn't, i must have dropped that phone like a million times and its still alive)
The only thing which is not an upgrade in my opinion is the camera. It's a good camera but the arc camera was simply amazing.
I didnt go for the latest flagship because it was to expensive. My friends have the htc one, xperia z and lumia 920 and this phone doesnt feel outdated compared to those phones. I also think sony has the best looking no nonsense smartphone software.
So yes, upgrade to T

This is basically the sum up of my current thoughts too.
Yes, Arc S was an amazing, and beautiful phone before anything else. And yes, it's having a great camera. And yes, it feels fragile, but it's not actually. Back cover is lame quality though.
And yes, the T (and Ion) feels heavier but it's a good thing. And I love T's design also, more than Ion's or V's.
And the same thing, I don't have enough money for Z or ZR now, and if I happen to have, I would question myself about buying Z. It's too big and too slippery, and too fingerprintable for my taste.

Z is pretty awesome, my friend is really liking the waterproof feature. but its pretty big indeed and my friends Z just broke(probably his own fault, he was throwing his phone around while he was drunk). But ive dropped my T quite a few times and i barely have a scratch. If i had to choose again i would take T again with no doubt. Ive seen a lot of people crying about sony and the jb firmwares on this forum but i dont share their opinion at all. Samsung and htc also aren't that good with upgrades. Samsungs arc comparable phone(galaxy s plus) didnt get a ics upgrade, my gf has the plus and shes stuck with some crappy unstable touchwiz firmware.

Heh, as 2011 Xperia flagship user, I'm quite familiar with all kind of whinings, cries, swears to never buy Sony again, etc...
To be honest, I was never obsessed with updates. My priorities were fast, functional, and bug-free firmware, so I spent most of my time with Xperia Arc S using stock GingerBread firmware (rooted and debloated).
But it should be said that ICS update for 2011 Xperia line was quite horrible. Creepy slow and full of bugs.
Now, what I don't get from your post is, why are people still crying about JB here? Isn't Xperia T already provided with JB update?
I didn't have time to read these forums throughly, so I don't know what is the feedback about JB yet, but shouldn't it be better than ICS in every way?

For me everything works great except auto brightness. So for me it is in every way better than ics. But people are whining about batterydrains, slow phones, gaming performance. I havent had any of these problems but i do have to say that i dont use a lot of heavy apps. Mainly whatsapp, chrome, dropbox, 9gag and facebook.

i upgraded from ARC S to XPERIA TX , and am feeling satisfied , TX has the arc design , it has bigger screen than xperia V , check this comparison from the GSM arena website
http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=4959&idPhone2=4958
I bought it! :victory:
About hour ago I bought my new beastie boy...
My first impressions are... WOW, just WOW!
Display is huge huge improvement over Arc S, in terms of everything. Colors are amazing, as well as sharpness. UI is beautiful too, probably the best Android skin among all big players, at least for me. Also, build quality seems amazing, and it feels rock solid in hands.
Also, JB came out of the box, version 9.1.A.0.489, and also it already popped me with mesage that new update is available, 9.1.A.1.141.
I guess I should update it, it's only 20-something MBs?
since I'am too considering to switch to one of these xperias i'm in doubt whether T is better than V. V's got a 4G support and is kind of weatherproof. it's also got newer chipset and isn't that alone enough for V to work faster that T? though usb otg is not listed among features this chipset natively supports it and I see no reason for it to be not enabled at least in a custom rom. another thing, the price of SP these days is closing down to that of V or T and it might be even better deal to go for with some 50-60 KM's (~$40) of difference between these models. I was considering even Z but decided to put it on hold until that issue with back glass "ungluing" has been resolved. I do not know how serious that is and do not want to become a victim of a pore design and lack of engineering common sense. i like all three models though, and it seems to be a tough choice what to go for.
As phone design plays a huge role in my decisions when purchasing a new phone, this time Xperia T won for obvious reasons (well, at least to me).
I never liked Xperia V design, not on pictures, and not in real when I compare it with T (or with Ion for that matter).
Yes, Xperia SP is having very close price range, to those of T and V, but still it's a mid-ranger, and somehow I would always choose older flagship over newer mid-ranger, with the same/similar price. But it's just me...

I came from the Arc and got the T, my missus just took delivery of the SP last week. I can catagorically say that the T is a most excellent upgrade to the Arc, but I like the additional items and functionality like the LED bar, slightly sleeker shape of the SP and faster processor. I'd go for the SP in hindsight but would definitely not be disappointed with the T.
Regarding pure aesthetics, I definitely don't regret buying a T and not an SP. Yes, I too like illumination bar of SP, and marginally better hardware specs (what is there to not like about that), but all in all, I think Xperia T is an amazing package, with very affordable price (maybe even underrated compared to some other OEMs devices), and generally an device with much more character to it, than Xperia SP. Like I said, design is beautiful, elegant with some nice accents, and probably the whole world is recognising it as a "Bond phone". While SP is bound to be a mid-ranger for the time being, and will never gain any significant attention probably.
And yeah, T feels rock-solid regarding build quality, something that my last phone, Arc S, was lacking badly (while still being an beautiful device).
Simply, I love my new phone, after merely two days of usage...
Dude, you sound like you're convincing yourself that you made a right choice. Praising a generaly older piece of hardware and crithisizing a new one, just because of your personal affection is not correct. I considered T as well, but opted for SP simply because is a new generation hardware. And even that is to become obsolete quite soon. There are some advantages of T, i agree it's got better camera and more storage, but anyone who want anything resembling a quality photo would go for a real point and shot or even a real dslr device, and storage can be expanded. I already put in a 32gb sdhc clas 10, fast memory with sufficient storage. And design of sp might not be striking, but sure is elegant and atractive. There are those like I am who do not want their phone to look like bannana. No offence ment. It' just personal taste. The rest of the the hardware inside SP is near flagship phones of not just sony, but of sumsung and htc as well. Go and check several tests and reviews, they can't all be wrong. So enjoy your phone but be realistic. While it is a mid-ranger, SP is a device with a lot of potential and if it had 2gb of ram it would be a absolut winner. Still, it has plenty to offer to any kind of user, even the heavy ones, and because being newer generation device it will enjoy longer support, so it was a logical chice for me. While the looks is somewhat conservative it is longlasting, plus i'm not going to take it to bad with me, at least not to make love to it. I'm going to root it and make it do it's job. It is supposed so serve my needs, connectionwise speaking, and it is supposed to do that for some time and i will need that support that SP will have. So good luck andhave a good time

And your reply sounded like...? You made my post very laid back and relaxed alike, with this kind of even more biased reply.
I'm not trying to convince anybody anything. I'm simply telling why I made the choice I made. I could have easily gone with your choice if I wanted to, but I didn't wanted (not couldn't).
And yeah, I'm not "getting hard on" watching Bond movies as well, I even don't like them.
I'm just telling that Bond colored marketing campaign helped this phone being desirable and recognisable piece of hardware, a bit more than an "usual" phone, and that's it.
Take it easy friend... SP is great device as well, I might even suggest it to my friend tonight (who's migrating from iPhone soon).
Thats all subjective reasons to choose a phone, of both of you two. its some sort of personal taste. for me mr_torture taste matches also my personal taste.
I believe noone can choose a phone just from objective point of view. because we humans and not robots
And just because a phone is generaly older piece of hardware, means nothing skojevac. Just wanne say :highfive:
If i would buy a phone with your arguments, then i also would not choose the SP, i wouldnt choose any phone with 1GB Ram.:good:
love the banana
the older, the sweeter ahahahaha

my only, and i mean only slight disapointment at this device is the screen, it washes out when viewing from large angles, which is negligble most of the times, unless you're for somereason trying to watch what someone else is doing on your phone while he's far from you.
other than that it's absolutly perfect, water resistent, very fast and snappy, battery lasts a day and sometimes two, volume is descent and camera is great once you figure out how to take goodnight shots.
i don't find the 8GB internal to be too small, i have a lot of apps installed including a few big games, for multimedia i just have my 16GB sd card.
Never get lags

For me the main problem is not to be able to use the Sd card for application storage.
Otherwise I m very happy with it.
Big screen but not too big.
Fast fast fast...
The front camera is not so good but do you use it often? Me once in 2 months...
The usb cover can get tricky sometimes but after a few week it become easier.
But why don't you wait a little more and buy a Z1s....
Not good at all
Because of:
1.Very little to No developer support for our device
2.Volume is very low
3.Probably no KitKat for our wonderful device
4.Camera is not nice,in any condition its just too grainy and zooming on a picture is pointless as it gets very bad
5.Shortage of accessories
6.Sony's service is very poor
7.No warranty on water proof.....
Etc.
Other than this the experience is great
Not on device but on android and a nicely designed phone.

lol kraken, go for a reading trip around the forum, most of what you wrote here is already discussed a solved...
1. almost every xz rom works on ZR with a little tweaking, you have miui and CM also, kikat will have to get to ZR if it gets to Z it's practicly the same, mybe a month later.
the camera is defenetly one of the better ones, night shots require to use manual mode to get better resaults, someone did comparison with galaxy s4 in the pictures thread and when done right quiality is the same.
shortage of accessories is also wrong, you have original sony dock and cheaper excellet docks on ebay, plenty of covers and screen procetors...
and about water warrenty?? no waterproff phone has a waterproofing warrenty, non from sony or the samsung galaxy active devices...

Please mod this one and upload it here cuz it's amazing

For future use....
+ Great size
+ Good battery life
+ Software (lightly skinned, no TouchWiz crap here)
+ Build quality
+ Fast and snappy with no lag
+ Sony media apps are nice
+ STAMINA mode
+ Can use with a dock
+ IP58 certified waterproof and dust proof
+ Excellent camera with proper camera button
- Notification light is too dim and colour can't be changed
- Lack of accessories (can't even get a proper leather case)
- Port covers likely to get damaged with constant open and close action
- Soft keys (prefer Samsung home button)
- Screen is washed out and looks rubbish compared to AMOLED but it's not as bad as the reviews

In my opinion it is a very good phone, it has amazing performance, good battery life, beatiful and structured ui, with good light the camera performs well (whit less light only in manuall mode), in my opinion beatiful design and in case of brightness and witheness the Display is fantastic, also the viewing angles are good but not perfect
Another aspect is that Sony has a good relationship with the dev. comunity (I Think) !!!
A littlebit annoying is the sensitive screen in case of scratches, but it is not that bad with some screen protectors xD
All in all it is a good phone with much better software than the sgs 4 ,in my opinion, also the metal frame feels very nice in comparrison to sgs 4´s platic and fake metal Frame More over it is water resistant (Very nice Feature)
All in all I can recommend it to you

Thank you so much for your reply,I agree with what you said, but do you think that what Sony offers can top some of the exclusive features of the sgs4?such as the air gesture, air view, eye control and the built in barometre and thermometre? Honnestly that s what standing in my way to get the z1,thinking that i ll miss all these exclisivities from the s4 not to mention that the s4 is rated to be a lot more reparable than Sony!

The S4 isn't a bad phone but compared to the Z1, the S4 has a slower Snapdragon 600 processor and GPU, smaller battery, poor build quality (plastic back and frame)
All depends on your Budget though,
I've had Samsung phones for over 3 years now, let me tell you that most of the Samsung features are just gimmicks. You wont even use %75 of those things in your cell, unless you want to show off in front of your Iphone friends

I think, but i´am not sure, you will get two years of battery warranty by Sony, but only phones with bulit in battery like the z1 !!! And I heard that modern batteries will loose only 15 % of their capacity after a bit more than 1000 times of complet charging xD

I wouldn't say that the S4 is "poor build quality" just because it's made out of plastic. It's a less desirable material, but it's still selling well.
If you're getting a phone now, it would be foolish to get an S4 when its replacement is just around the corner. I wouldn't choose this phone unless you don't care about keeping up with the latest and greatest.
I would personally be stuck between the Z1, Nexus 5, and the Note 3.
Everyone knows that the Nexus 5 is the best bang for the buck. It's not a fancy phone, but it has some top-line specs at a low price point which makes this compelling to everyone.
The Note 3 is actually not much bigger physically against the Z1, but the screen size is a good .5 inches larger. You might not use the stylus as much as you think you would, but 3rd party development as well as accessory availability is much higher than any of the 3.
The Z1's selling point is the camera and body. Megapixels mean nothing, but it's got one of the best specs. Aluminum and glass body for the iPhone-like feel.

The battery of Xperia Z1 is so nice. I watched video with maximum voice. And I turned on the flashlight then take photos. The capacity of the z1 battery reduced slowly. The color of the photo taken by S4 is bright. But S4 was burning hot after playing games.
At the moment, the Z1 is right up there, just make sure you get a phone that is bootloader unlockable if you plan to in the future, i didn't like an idiot.
other alternatives are the note 3, LG N5 and the LG G2, all good phones and you most likely won't regret any purchases, I went with the Z1 as it's the right size for me, has a crazy camera and it's water proof, the pace of the phone is superb and it's build quality is top notch.
The choice is always yours tho m8 and it doesn't really matter what other people say, it's down to what you think in the end.
Looking back now, if i could have done it again, i might have given the note 3 another look, maybe even a glare
Forget the S4, it wasn't up to much when it came out, overheating issues, random reboots and a lot of phones simply just dying, at the time the HTC One for me anyway was the logical choice, still my favorite phone, albeit with a slightly slower processor, i'd even got as far to say that the One holds it's own with the newer batch, only problem is that when newer phones come out the One might feel dated in terms of performance.
You see I found them at almost the same price!

Yeah you re right, but the s5 wont be here until March maybe and would be a little expencive at the begining.
I dont quite get what you mean by saying megapixels mean nothing,do you mean that the quality of the photos taken by z1 isn't that big of a deal?

Umm,Im not so sure what "bootloader unlockable" means,is it about the ability to change roms and roots and stuff? (not much into this ) but it'd be so nice of you if you explain it more. The guy at the phone store did mention something about having to unlock the phone before he could sell it,is that it?
I appreciate your help dude!
Is any off-contract (full price) Z1 bootloader-unlockable? I assume the locked-down ones are carrier-subsidized...
I would have recommended the Z1 untill Sonys half-arsed 4.3 release ballsed-up the bluetooth stack making the phone useless in my car as I cannot use it now on hands-free................................

The guy at the store shouldn't really have to do anything with the phone to sell it, especially unlocking it. ?
Unlocking the bootloader gives you a bit more freedom to do what you want with the phone, so if you were to root it (BL unlock isn't required for root) and then you wanted to install a rom like Paranoid android or Cyanogen mod or any rom that requires a custom kernel then you will need to have the ability to unlock the handset, I personally can't unlock mine cos I stupidly went with a provider directly, also bare in mind that the bootloader unlock or not isn't anything to do with the sim being locked, they're not related.
If you have no plans to unlock the bootloader then i'm sure you'll love the Z1, i've had literally no problems with mine, everything is fast and stable (bar the odd random reboot which happens once a week if that) i'm still running 4.2 and it suits me quite well, I am rooted and I have exactly the right amount of mods installed that I would want from any other phone, also the pace of the phone is blistering so i don't really have a need to install custom kernels anyway and the CM based rom's are good but I never really stick with them for very long anyway, so not a deal breaker for me.
Just so you know, unlocking the bootloader will most likely void your warranty so be aware before you commit, rooting is reversible and won't touch your warranty, unless you send it to them rooted, just flash an FTF to revert back to normal.

I love the pure Google experience but internal memory and battery capacity of Nexus 5 is just killing me. I would go for G2, but I heard it struggles with poor internal memory performance. Can anyone confirm it with KK onboard? My N5 is .84 rw. Which one has better community support? I would probably flash cm/omni. And Im considering 16GB Z1 vs 32GB G2. I like the feeling of N5, and that's why Im a bit scared of Z1 huge frame, but stable and fully functional pure Google is the most important for me.

Do you care about horrible viewing angles? I mean horrible.
As long as they are not worse than in my TFT desktop monitor, I'm fine with that. Are they worse than in Xperia S? Cause those are almost unacceptable.

The only horrible thing is the community, that writes crap about this nice device every time ...
I can tell you (with many hours of testing Z1, G2, S4, etc. that the Z1 is by far the best device out of the top devices at the moment... for sure you will have to know, what you are doing (and seemingly no one here does) ... i'm a photograph and have to say that the camera is brilliant (for a mobile camera) ... you just have to choose manual iso and such things, cause the automatic is (as always at EVERY camera) not the best for all situations ... e.g. if you shoot pics at night, the automatic mode gains the iso to maximum ... this will for sure make you able to shoot pictures that look like at evenig, not at night, but will gain the noise to a max ... if you choose wisely (e.g ISO 400) at night shots and hold the camera still you will get good pictures ...
i may upload a few examples today or tomorrow ..
the display: Yes, it is not such a good viewing angle as on new IPS-Panels or something ... BUT ... do you want everyone in a train e.g. be able to look and read everything on your display? Me not ... It's important to have enough angle to watch videos or look at photos (espacially for me) without getting wrong colors or something ... and THAT is what the Z1 does ...not more, but not less ...
so why is the z1 better than evey other mobile available?!
- it's water resistant (and yes, i testet it half an hour fully under water) ...
- its aluminium frame with saphire glass on both sides (yes it is) gives it a nice finish (im sure you can even let it fall on a stone without braking it, but not tested - it just falls periodically from my table on the carpet - ca 1m - and is still alive )
- the dev community is good
- the battery life is the longest for those cpus and displays
- the camera is awsome
- the display (triluminos) is brilliant with true colors, good contrast, etc ...
- sony delivers good support
- the sound that comes out of this mobile (even with just the headset in the package) is amazingly brilliant - with good earphones it's for sure the best i ever heard (sony has much experience cause of the walkman devices and such things ...)
- it comes out of the box with very cool features such as the stamina mode (wich works brilliant - no need for any other battery apps or task killers) or the ability to bind an DualShock-Controller to the mobile for gaming e.g. ... and much more ...
so enough said .. haters will allways hate ... but i will never give my z1 away ... it's the best phone i ever head in my hands (and i've had more then enough) ...mybe the z2 will be the replacement for the z1 in a while ... but at the moment there is nothing better available ...
EHHHM .. just to be clear ... im reporting about the standard german nonbranded C6903 .. i heard that some other countrys and models may have other display panels and may be worse than the "normal" device ... don't know, what is exactly true about this .. i can only tell you something about German unbranded C6903 which is mine and the mobile of 2 friends of me .. all working without problems ...
I sign this

I have the Z1, but the only reason I went for it instead of the G2 is because I need more than 32GB storage and I care about the materials / build quality of a product a lot. I guess if those things are important to you, go for the Z1, otherwise the G2 is probably better than the Z1 in every way really (especially the display and the size of phone to size of screen ratio. Z1 has HUGE bezels)

Well, I do not think there is anything more to say :good:
Why everyone is complaining about Z1?
I have a Z1 and i LOVE IT!
Ok, my first impression wasnt the best (touch issues), but i replace it and now its perfect!
My battery can hold for 2 days with wifi and 4g the entire time, twitter, facebook, email, linkedin, everything connected and i play on my free times. TWO DAYS!
I dont have any problem with the angle because i dont use my phone looking from the sides (who do this?) when i use it the screen is in front of me, so not a problem.
Its water resistent, do you need more? (oh, but i dont live inside a pool bla bla bla, neither me, but is something to consider on a top end phone).
Performance is unbelievable! Im using stock ROM from Sony and is fast, stable, beautiful.
The camera is noisy? Yes, but ONLY on AUTO mode, change to MANUAL and do some basic camera ajustments, you will see a new camera, very clear photos even at night.
Internal storage 16gb, yes, this is crap, but i have 12 games installed and more 2gb of music without a SD Card, so all depends on your use.
So if you want a perfect phone, buy the Z1 or the brand new Z2, both of the phones are incredible!
I also agree.
I sold a Galaxy S4 and caught a Z1 and do not regret it.
I Make excellent pictures in Manual mode (the best camera on a smartphone).
Viewing angles never bothered me, so I usually look at the screen from the front.
Quality construction and water resistance = Perfect!
Excellent battery life.
G2 / N5 = plastic phones, no sdcard slot, no real good cameras, no water resistant, no great battery life.
Conclusion: Today, Z1 is the best option. If you can wait, buy a Z2 or HTC One 2 (M8). These will be better than Z1.
I would say the technical best devices are the HTC One or the Xperia Z series. If you compare the Z, Z1 and Z2 the differences are minimal. Because of that you can decide by the amount of money you want to spend for a mobile phone. I am sure after the Z2 reaches the market, the prices for Z and Z1 will be lowered.

few things i'd like to reply on:
first a few things that are not quite right:
display:
the triluminos display may seem brilliant, but is has it downsides. for those who are in this stuff, this video is pretty nice. well aside from that, it just has to look good right? wich it, in my opinion, does.
sound:
well yeah, with headphones it's definitly something, but without? ouch...
screen:
it's dragontail glass not saphire glass (source)
positive:
camera:
the camera is excellent IF you know how to use it. The G2 does decent pictures without questions, but they are heavily post processed. It may not be visible for the normal user, but if you're in that photo stuff the z1 should do better.
take a look at this page for further information.
but this should all be in vain, because those are stock roms, who really knows how the perform on custom roms?
battery:
it's huge. i came from Xperia S what lasted about 10 Hours with my usage. The Z1 easily gets over 2 Days with wifi, gps, mobile allways on. Additionally i receive quite a few push messages.
edit:
i love my Z1
owned both (Z1 & G2) and I would definitely recommend the G2
Both are good phones...and I was in the exact same position choosing between the G2 and Z1. Yes the Z1 can have images with noise but I've managed to get a good technique with all the tips from XDA members...people are always complementing my Z1 camera
Ultimately it's down to what you want;

So if you want custom roms the G2 is hands down the winner compared to the Z1 with a permanently locked bootloader (i.e. not unlockable). However if you can get a unlockable Z1 it's about even. If not the stock Z1 is still really good and very close to pure google experience once you root and clean things up with titanium backup.
If I could choose again I would probably go for the G2 since I prefer messing around with custom roms (although I would miss the solid premium feel the Z1 has...so maybe I'd try harder to source an unlockable Z1 :silly: ).
I was hesitating about the same thing, G2 vs Z1. I was almost sold for the G2, it was pretty nice at test (swipe gestures and tap screen are very user-friendly).
But finally I got my Z1 form my carrier, thinking that if it was not good for me I could sell it at a big price and buy a G2 instead. I never went this way. Testing a Z1 and owning a Z1 are 2 different worlds, this phone has just blown my mind.
Also had an accident with Coca and my phone held out for 30 minutes without any problem, I just washed it under a shower, cleaned it with my shirt. Way to go!
And I'm a music addict. Just check the two topics I've opened lately. All about sound. The Z1 is by far the best out there with Qualcomm DAC, implementation is perfect. Zero noise, zero distortion, power, lively music, responsive EQ, it is worth the experience.
I will definitely not trade my Z1 for a LG G2. Though the last one is an amazing phone and I recommend it, if you have money to chose either the Z1 or the G2, Z1 is the way to go. I don't know the Z2. If it does eveythign the same way or better than the Z1, it's a WIN-WIN situation.
Ah, I run stock ROM, haven't looked after root yet, nor bootloader stuff etc.
This device is catching my eyes. I hope the reviews will be good !
It's time for my good old Z5 to retire...
Who is thinking to buy it and why ??
I am thinking about buying it if supports VoLTE on T-Mobile and the new Band 71.
I travel a lot for work and need all the coverage I can get.
It will be the XZ2 or the XZ2 Premium which is supposed to be announced in May.
It depends on the price.if around 600$ I might buy it day one. anything more than 700 I will skip it and go for XZ1.

@nreuge Hey man,
Good to see you still up and around.
My contract is up for renewal and I was really looking forward to get my hands on a new Sony device.
I've been with Sony since Xperia Z1 and I have loved their phones very much ever since.
But the XZ2 is just to thick for me.
I don't know what the hell they were thinking when they decided that.
Plus fingerprint on the back... Is just really inconvenient for me.
Having it on the side power button has always been one of the most important features that kept me buying Sony phones again.

Hey, I too want to buy The XZ2, what really got me into Sony Xperia smartphones is their multimedia features and they still do, That 4K screen and the advanced X-reality, conversion from SDR to HDR is just all what I'm looking for in a smartphone (I watch alot of movies and videos on my smartphone so yeah), BTW I really like that they put the Fingerprint scanner in the center (so I won't accidentally smudge the camera) it's convenient for me.
Edit: add to it how Sony is fast to update their phones next to Google, and because of how light their stock roms I won't ever think of custom roms.

You're welcome
The XZ2 screen resolution is not 4K, it's FHD+ (this is really sufficient because you wouldn't see at all the difference with 4K and 4K would suck more battery for nothing...)
The Sony roms overlay is clean and fast. Their updates are relatively fast (but not too fast because they usually don't release bugged roms...)

Yeah that's good too, still Sony's updates are always ahead of other OEMs (except for Google), and not to mention most of their smartphones comes with the newest android version (at the time) out of the box.

Yeah, I was waiting for days to read it, and the phone did fulfill expectations on pretty much all fronts. But the thing that impressed me the most was obviously the camera. The have really stepped up their game and image processing and brought it on par with S9 duo.
Now this may seem as an exaggeration, but it's actually just like that. I've downloaded full pictures from GSMArena tests and zoomed in as much as it was on S9 and all 12mp cameras, or simply put I've scaled pictures down to 12mp (as of course you are zooming in a bit more because of higher resolution). Did a comparison with S9 directly and I can tell you, although the noise levels are higher on XZ2, the amount of detail is the same, and in some areas maybe a bit better, but also in some a bit worse, so it's balanced out.
But, here is the point, if you take into consideration that XZ2 hasn't got OIS, has notably smaller aperture, smaller individual pixels and lack of dual pixel focus while having admittedly a bit bigger sensor, and all of this contributed to ISO levels 3 times higher than on S9 (or the correct term would be 2 stops higher?) yet it produced pictures with quality that is closely comparable, that just tells you much they achieved and how good the sensor is and processing as well.
Furthermore, studio shots have proven that quality of XZ2 in low-light surpasses S9 while being on nearly the same ISO, which means that processing has matured and paid off. And if Sony improves the specs of their camera setup for the next generation, it will easily top the competition.

Yeah, I was waiting for days to read it, and the phone did fulfill expectations on pretty much all fronts. But the thing that impressed me the most was obviously the camera. The have really stepped up their game and image processing and brought it on par with S9 duo.

yep, it did well. but remember that GSMArena uses a tripod for many of their shots, which the XZ2 camera software notices and then lowers the ISO and slows shutter speed, giving better detail. handheld shots won't be the same.
still, in many cases it's a marked improvement over the XZ1 and XZ Premium, which use the same sensor.
As an XZ1 owner, I'm tempted to wait and see the model that uses the new dual-sensor module coming later this year, rather than jumping on the XZ2.

They do use tripod for studio shot, however they don't use tripod for those outdoor shots in order to replicate everyday usage, you can even see that based on shutter speed, which is 1/16, mostly what is used by Superior Auto on handheld usage. When it's on tripod, it goes slower than that.
The point is that even at high ISO values, it's on par with the S9 duo, objectively speaking and when the ISO is matched, XZ2 goes ahead, due to detail preservation. I'm not saying it because I am biased, as I'm not, I've downloaded the pictures, scaled them and compared. Now, I'm far from photographer and have scarce knowledge about it, but I have good enough eyes and common sense ( I hope so ).
Anyway, the improvement is here and a big one at that, so this is a very good sign. Unfortunately it will be a while until I can buy this one, but since you have XZ1, you can wait for XZ Premium successor, it should be even better than this
