Hey guys, do you think buying a used note 3 is still a good by at $350?
How much do you think it will sell for in November after Note 4 hits the scene?
I think it's a decent deal. Not the best deal but not the worst deal.

Thanks. I just the pulled the trigger on a "mint" condition note 3 on swappa for $339 to hold me over until I get a Note 4 in November. Tired of my Nexus 5 poor battery life.
Enjoy. Battery on the note is a beast. ?

I got my note 3 back in January and I'm still very happy with it. This is the best battery life I've ever experienced on any device I've ever owned, But I also want to see what the future holds for the note line. If it's extremely nice I will get it. If not I will just keep my note 3 till I finally get tired of it.

I finally got the device. The seller claims that they too purchased it back in January. There isn't a mark on the device. It is definitely in mint condition.
It's on, rooted, debloated and disabled carrier iq, and customized! Easier than I expected to use one handed (but I have large hands) and fits in my pocket better than anticipated as well. Not as smooth as my Nexus 5 or even 4 (even turning most features off and using Nova), but worth the extra screen and battery size.
Definitely going for a Note 4 in a few months, but looking forward to using this bad boy for the time being! I'm not in any rush with this device in hand. The 3 is a great device. My only regret is not having moved to the Note line of phones earlier.

That's weird. I have a similar setup on my Note and it is the butteriest phone I've ever owned. I need to update my sig but I'm running stock rooted kitkat, I used Titanium Backup to debloat the crap out of it, and I got rid of Carrier IQ. There isn't a hint of lag.

I did the same thing, but just to my eye, it's not as smooth as a nexus 5. It's not a huge difference (it's barely a difference at all), and certainly not one that I would go back to a nexus for. It's just something I noticed with both devices in my hand at the same time.
If you enjoy rooting and flashing, I hope it's not the AT&T Note 3.

I rooted this note 3, but I've never flashed it because I was spending way too much time messing with roms on previous nexus.
What's the issue with att? I haven't looked into it. Difficult bootloader?

Except, with Safestrap it's actually possible to add custom ROMS. Took me around 20 minutes to get it set up and I;m no power user!

This is hands down the phone I've been waiting for! Perfect screen size with a great processor and stock android. This phone is fantastic. I've had soooo many phones in the past year it's insane. Galaxy note 2 and 3 galaxy s4 htc one Sony xperia z ultra HTC one again galaxy note 3 again and none have made me happy. Alot has to do with ask the bloat that those phones have. I don't know how to root devices and play with the software. All I've wanted was a nice die phone that's snappy and smooth with a nice size screen and stock android. I now have it and couldn't be happier. I'm a little scared as to how the battery life will be as I'm a heavy internet user but time will tell. Gonna order a wireless charger and case now.

If you're looking for a budget wireless charger that gets the job done and is a trusted name then purchase the Nokia DT-900 (it's about $25 from at&t) and if you're looking for one that tilts then get the DT-910.
I have the DT-910 and it's wonderful. Stay away from off brand chargers because it can damage you're phone or even cause a fire!
Welcome to this wonderful community and enjoy your Nexus 5!

To OP: Congrats on getting a great phone. I really would suggest unlocking and rooting to get the most out of the phone tho. Xposed + GravityBox really make the phone even better. With those you don't even need to go the custom ROM route.
To the people being DICKS in this thread: Really? Get a life.

Coming from S3 att with AOKP. I love everything except lose buttons and smaller grill mic and speaker. reading reading reading now before unlock/install/root.
I am not familiar with Xposed. should I go with roms or Xposed. I want my phone to be fast and just work.

Welcome to the club! I've owned a ton of handsets in the past few years and this is the only one I haven't rooted in the first week because it just works so beautifully as is. Haven't had one issue (other then loose power button, can't win em all). I get the itch to root and fiddle now and then but then I can't bring myself to do it as its just perfect for me as is. I'm sure eventually the modder in me will win out and I'll tinker with it to all hell and back, but for now, just enjoying the ride.

I'd definitely play around with Xposed before flashing a ROM. At least for me it has completely eliminated the need to flash any custom ROMs. I am stock rooted + Xposed on all 3 of my Android devices and I wouldn't have it any other way. GravityBox is the first module you should try, as it has a TON of features. You get the benefits of staying stock (stability, bug free) but get to add whatever features you want to your stock ROM. I can't stress how awesome Xposed is, and it really was a game changer for me.

Hey everyone, Ive had a note 2 for 2 years now and samsung honestly has a lot of bloatware, also the phone is really slow now that even the youtube app would take 3-5 seconds to open. Which phone do u think is better and did anyone have the experience of their nexus 5 or 4 getting a lot slower in a matter of a year or two?? Thanks

I ditched my Note 2 Wed night for the Note 4 Developer Edition on VZW. If you are on VZW or ATT and you don't get a develop edition it may be a long time (if ever) for root and/or bootloader unlocking. If tweaking the device is important that will play a huge factor. As for lag...I am running a debloated rom (no knox or bloatware) and I froze S-voice...there is zero lag now, but you need root to do that.
I was down to either the Nexus 6 or N4 DE...whichever one I could buy first. I am not a fanboy of either as both have good and bad points and I am sure I would have been happy with either. My favorite thing about android is that if there is something I don't like or a feature I want, there is almost always a way to make it happen (assuming you have root and an unlocked bootloader). Hope this helps.
My short input: Hardware is better on the Note 4. Software better on the Nexus 6.
I chose the Nexus because I wanted to experience Stock Android. But I believe the Note is a better phone overall.

I had the Note 3 before I upgraded to the Nexus 6. In my opinion the Nexus 6 is beast & fast as all hell! I mean this thing is so fast out of the box without need to use a custom rom or anything like that. I never used the stylus so that's never been any issue for me when deciding to upgrade my device. Also the front facing speakers & the screen clarity is seriously AWESOME!
I haven't used a phone in years where I didn't feel the need to alter it to make it perform as I thought it should. I did root mine because I love using Titanium Backup and certain apps like that. I woudn't go back to my Note 3 for anything after using this! I don't recall being so happy overall with a device!!!
PS: I also feel that you will not notice much of a differance between the Note 2 & 4 but upgrading to the Nexus 6 will be a very new experiance you will enjoy!!!

Thanks everyone!
I bought nexus 6 and my sister bought note 4. My sister loves her note 4 and I am returning my nexus 6. Only Note series has right features for big screen. Nexus 6 is not very pleasant in use.
But it all comes down to what you need must. My sister doesn't care about software upgrades so it's a perfect phone her.
There reason I am returning my nexus 6 because of some issues. Battery life is meh. Its just big. And no led? Really I need to root to get it? That's just stupid. There is always cloud app fc. I mean come on brand new phone and a fc. It has no advantage over any other latest phone except the OS (that too experience some lag).
After using nexus 4 and then nexus 5. I am going back to my one plus one. Half Price and better performance then nexus 6.
Just to answer your question, if Samsung keeps their word go with international or developer edition note 4.

That's funny...I'm getting pretty sick of waiting for a Lollipop update that's probably going to be almost identical to what I'm already running and and I've never hit near 8 hours SOT. Want to trade lol?

True, it will be dated, but Nexus phones age much better. The Nexus 5 is still a damn decent phone and gets plenty of support. There are days when I miss it vs. the Note. (Battery isn't great though in comparison.)
My point is that given their track record, if Lollipop is taking this long on the latest and greatest Note, imagine how long updates are going to take when they care even less a couple Android point releases down the line.
And I get 4.5-6 on a good day with the Note, and I'm actually pretty happy with that all things considered. The idle time is phenomenal as well. Three days of light use is not unusual for me.

If you want Lollipop flash it there are a bunch of good AOSP ROMS.
The key differences is the screen and the camera. Both are better on the Note 4.
As far as support goes if you root your phone support will last a long time, my Note 2 is already on AOSP Lollipop 5.0.2
As long as the phone has root, don't pick a phone based on software, you can flash whatever you want on it, pick a phone based on hardware.

I'm reluctant to try AOSP. I owned a Note 2, and CM was buggy as hell.
if your only purpose of switching is SOT let me tell you , you'll be quite disappointed.
You have a lot of people posting 8-9hrs of SOT but not matter what I try what rom i try what kernel i try there's no such thing happening for me.
You literally have to just have the phone on, with screen on without any timeout, doing absolutely nothing.

I personally would go with the note 4, i had the nexus 6 and wasn't impressed by it one bit, had a couple cool features but not compared to this. However, updates will be way faster on the nexus then on this...but the screen on note 4 in my opinion is way superior, i had to keep the brightness at like 85 percent to be able to see everything good, on here, i keep it at 25. Both fast though!
It took them a bit of time to work out all the bugs on CM on the Note2 but once they did it was WAY better than the stick ROM. CM11 on my Note 2 is the best it had ever run. WAY better than TW, better battery, and much faster.

To be honest, the only 3 reasons I went with the N4 were 1) the camera (now not so sure), 2) expandable storage through SD card (I could've just picked up the 64GB N6 and be ok) and 3) the pen.
P.S. @PunishedSnake Please refrain from the click-baiting thread names - clearly state what your question is in as much detail as possible in the subject of the thread to avoid members to have to click on it to find out what it's about.
The Note 4 is hands down better than the Nexus 6 when it comes to HARDWARE. Better camera, better screen, better battery life, IR blaster (remote control), comfortable to hold in hand, removable battery, expandable storage, etc. The only reason I would get the Nexus 6 is because of official support by Google as far as stock Android is concerned. Also the Note 4 will have a better resale value than the Nexus 6 if you decide to sell it. If you ever feel the need for a Nexus like experience with the Note 4 you can always root it to be more Nexus like.
I'd go ahead and return the nexus 6. And get the note 4.
I gave my nexus 6 to my mom.

I'm personally torn.
Having had both, and ultimately sticking w/ the Note 4 only because I still have a Nexus 5 to play around with, I'm just not in love with the Note 4. It's the first phone in the Note series I've owned, and while I enjoy the multi-view and S-Pen capabilities the best, both features are negated when running a non-TouchWiz ROM. Of course, that's to be expected, and not necessarily deal breakers, but I'm indifferent as to how long I'll stick around w/ the device.
To be fair, I should note that I was one of those who got a phone out of the "bad batch" w/ the camera issues, and didn't return it w/i 14 day window nor submit for RMA. Again, for what I personally use the phone for, even that isn't a deal breaker. And to be honest, the Lollipop based ROM I'm running now does hum like a butterfly and have NO complaints about battery life.
Depending on what's on the horizon in a few months, I may utilize the JUMP program or sell outright. Nice phone, for sure, but I think coming from a Nexus, I may be a bit underwhelmed. IMO, if you've come from TouchWiz, or are looking at the camera specs, go w/ the Note 4 and you won't be disappointed.
I have pre ordered note 5 from best buy but I am feeling like I should cancel it. Reasons being
1. There are many things around the corner, USB type C, new nexus (hope it has brilliant display as note), new SOC's which much better performance (up to 50% improvement next year).
2. No improvement in SOC from S6 , not much improvement in camera from note 4 (same sensor), I don't have note 4 or S6 but I can get them for much cheaper price as note 5 is out now.
3. At&t boot loader will be locked.
Reasons I want to get this one
1. Best buy is giving $200 gift card on trade in so phone would cost $600 with a free wireless charger and I have to pay remaining amount on installments, so I am getting 28 weeks. (I am paying 30% up front so I can use gift card to do so)
2. Next overall good (big screen) phone would be note 6, I don't want to wait another year.
Anyone has any good advice?
If you haven't owned a Note device before then maybe you should look somewhere else. The S-Pen is what makes a Note a Note, yet you never really mentioned it being a selling point for you.
Short: No
If you have Verizon or AT&T avoid at all cost until root is obtained if you are into rooting. It's been almost a year and the note 4 for those carriers still haven't ever gotten permanent root..

Couldn't agree more. Don't buy any phone these days on locked down carriers assuming it will get full root.
No! Youde be better off buying a Note 4.
Pick up your device and use it for 13days. If you don't like it return it. Reviews will start coming out and some are already starting to prove the naysayers wrong. If you enjoy it keep it.

ATT = no root, and for sure no unlocked bootloader EVER. So no ROM's on an ATT Note 5.
I'd switch to T-Mobile, they are the only U.S. Carrier left that has unlocked bootloaders on their flagship devices
Coming from a Note 4 user, my view is No. For me, I would get the Note 4 or the Note 4 Edge over the 5.

S4, it's working fine except the screen, I dropped it once and now it has a big crack.
Cancel it and just wait. Shud be anytime soon before they announce a new Nexus lol

The Note5 is a huge upgrade from an S4, night and day.
I think you should try it, what have you got to lose.
Anyway I went to Bestbuy and played around with the Note 5 and compared it to my Note 4. The thing that struck me the most is the improved ergonomics of the device. It is much easier to hold in the hand, due to a combination of the rear-facing curve and the reduced bezel making the device narrower. The home button is more pronounced, not flush mount like the Note 4. Also the glass is seemed flat at edges of the screen, not as beveled as Note 4. Which should make installing a tempered glass screen protector easier.

I am an at&t customer and I'm thinking about buying a factory unlocked note 5 (N920I) won't the boot loader be unlocked on this phone? Also would I be able
to root the factory unlocked phone and flash custom roms? Thanks in advance.

I don't think they have fast charging for USB-c yet so I'm glad my phone doesn't have it. Wouldn't want to lose that.
The note 5 camera does have the same basic sensor as the note 4 but the 5 takes better pictures. Especially in low light. It launches and focuses much faster, and has manual shutter speed options. Better video stabilization also.

Carrier lock and bootloader lock are two different things. I would say wait for few days and see which version gets root. I think you would be better off buying t mobile note 5, you will still get warranty, the bandwidth are mostly same, they will carrier unlock the phone when you buy at full price (which you have to as you are at&t customer not t mobile) and till now there galaxy phones had unlocked bootloader.

Yep that's the thing what makes me worrie, but I don't have money to pay front for t mobile note 5. I am getting a good deal from best buy, after all offers I am have to pay around 80 upfront and rest of the $28 months $18.5 per month.

The thing is I am putting value for unlocked bootloader, what I mean is if I am saving $100 on bootloader locked phone than unlocked one, I will go for locked one and if it saves less than 100 then I will get unlocked one, right now I am saving around $250 on locked one and getting monthly installments.

Hey XDA
Brief background, want to make this small post here.
Had the S4 for a year, actually enjoyed it for what it was worth, wanted out as soon as we knew for sure there was no root. Stock Touchwiz was just terrible on the 4.
I've never had the chance to own a Nexus device before, my carrier upgrades always came just before the Nexus devices were released, and I've been so ready to upgrade when it comes I jump on it.
This time around I stuck with my G3 for a while. I love this phone. I'm ready for new, and the phones coming out this year are not quite "notable"
I really have my eyes on the Nexus 6P - but US carriers not selling it means I have a decision to make. Got my dad the Note 4 earlier this year, he likes it. I like it the little bit I've played with it. I feel I could even use the Note 5 to replace my notebook in class for notes. ATT bootloader seems to be like the S4. Not much will come of bootloader unlocks with this phone.. It appears.
------
So I will upgrade through ATT, probably to the Note 5. Question is - stay with the Note 5 and learn to love it, despite the experiences I've had with Samsung, or flip it unopened on CL and order up the N6P....??
I really do not want a subpar camera to the G3, nor do I want a dull screen. Both devices seem on par, both no SD, battery not removable on the Note... Cameras both good..
Anyone here want the Nexus 6P?! Willing to get rid of your Note 5 for it?
The 6P looks sweet (literally and figuratively) but I'll never buy a smartphone with the Snapdragon 810. I already have a stove.
If i had a real need for a second phone, Nexus 6P will be my choice
I like Note5 as my main phone, S pen is really helpful, and makes you smart ?
Sent from my SM-N920C using Tapatalk
I see. Can anyone here tell me if it's valid to think you could completely replace a notebook and take notes in an 8 hour class day with the n5?

The phone hasn't even come out yet, wait until someone can review it. There are phones with the chip that heat up a lot, and some that don't heat at all.

I've had the Note 5 for a few weeks now, it is an excellent all-around Android phone.
I think the Nexus 6p looks great too, has pros and cons like any phone.
I think the Note 5 is the better all-around device and is the premier flagship Android phone of 2015.
I don't think you could sit and take notes for 8 hours on this phone. Lol. Maybe you could, maybe not. I would never want to do that.
The Nexus 6p is using the SnapDragon 810 version 2.1 - heat issues have "supposedly" been resolved on that version.
Some things to consider with AT&T:
1) You can't root but you can use Samsung Pay
2) Resale value on AT&T branded Samsung phones (Android in general) are lower than other models like T-Mobile, due to the locked bootloader, they usually sell for less/resale for less.
So I don't think you want to take a risk and purchase the phone from them, only to sell it for less.
Worst come to worst, try it out, they should give you 14 days to try it and return it. Something like that.

True and true. I may end up doing that. Will be end of this month or next, don't want to make a payment to pay off my G3, got 4 months left but they usually let you swap with 2 left.
I want to try the N5, the S6 edge has a brilliant screen but not for me.
I just really have my heart set on this N6P. If I don't like what I get with the Note5 I may return it for a iPhone6S and sell that on CL. Should get more $$$ for it. Overnight myself a N6P and I'll be good to go.

It depends if you want stock Android or not. That's all it really comes down to cause the Note 5 has everything else the 6P has for the most part.
I personally can't stand stock Android, so I'm sticking with the Note 5. Stock Android is insanely boring and featureless compared to Touchwiz. And the Note 5 has the S-Pen.

Indeed. That's true. I love vanilla Android. I wish the OnePlus 2 was a bit better... I'd sweep that in a heartbeat.
Touchwiz in my experience has been very Ram consuming and slow with the amazing hardware Samsung has brought to the table. It ruins the phone in my opinion. If course, the Note typically has better optimized software and useful features.
I lean more and more to the n6p every time I look at it. But again, ATT doesn't sell. Going to really suck

I agree, I think somewhere along the line, maybe around lollipop, I started to enjoy the touchwiz version more because of all the useful features built in to the OS.

I've had the Note 3, 4 and now 5. In my opinion, each iteration is slowly getting refined to be a better version compared to the last. If they keep this up, all the old stereotypes about touchwiz will eventually be obsolete.

Old stereotypes are still there... yeah there's less bloatware but have you seen the RAM management on the Note5? Shameful.
Now that the V10 is out I would also consider that as an option. It looks fantastic.

I think RAM management can easily be fixed with a software update.
The Note 5 - even with this "RAM management" issue - is still the fastest, smoothest Note I've used. Hands down!
Software was never a strong suite for Samsung, however, they are learning. Fast enough for some people, slow for others.
It should only get better...

Yeah, yet the track record shows Samsung will not upgrade the software's RAM consumption near as much as they could. They just don't have our interests at heart, rather the general public. After all we are a minority on XDA.
May settle for the Note5, will have to find time to go play with one in the store soon..
Otherwise I'll flip an iPhone 6S for the N6P... Ugh.

I say no. It may just be my writing, but I can only fit maybe 4-5 legible words across the screen in portrait mode, which makes for a lot of +New notes, or one lonnnnnnng one.
I've had my fun with it, but I am realizing it's just not convenient to try and pack a tablet into a phone, and use a phablet as a phone. I am now leaning more towards having a tablet for actual writing on, and a phone I can use easily in one hand for texting/emailing/calling.
