Hey guys, good night/morning (or whatever) :silly: ,i'm here because i need help with my phone, months ago i was with the phone under the water, then one/two weeks later my power button got broken, the phone lock and unlock itself so many times, the volume buttons won't work correctly (but they work, u need to press them softly), and the camera button wont work (AT ALL) too... and i have no warranty (because they said there are a red dot in the sim slot), so, i saw the piece on ebay in like 10 bucks,
The question is, can my self disassembly my phone? Do i need a special Glue or something? (I have all the screwers), can one of you guys help me?
I will be pretty apreciatted THANKS :good:
PS: sorry for my bad english :\

Hello, you can find guides on how to open your z1 on YouTube and Google, however I would not risk it and open it my self
Hmmm, I need to do it myself because repair shops here they do that for like 50 Bucks, and the piece is only 10 bucks, so I'm saving much money, but risking my phone too :/
I'm a 17 years kid with no money haha, not working yet, that's because I didn't send it to the repair shop.
No body? :'(
I sent mine to Sony Service centre here in Singapore. My warranty covered it so it's free (despite having the liquid detector thing red). However it took me 4 and a half weeks for them to repair a freaking power button

Don't worry, I know your troubles, im 14 and i'd repair my phone myself, im kind of like the risk it or always have it broken, i've taken computers apart before and back together but different from a phone since there's tinier screws more tiny parts and risk of breaking tiny little things lol, I should stop there since im probably scaring you, I would fix my z1 myself but then i wouldn't put it back in water because i wouldn't be sure if my phone lost it's tight seal ability or not, but first i'd watch lots of take apart videos for the z1, also have a computer next to you so you can review the steps, one thing i know for sure is you need a heat gun of some sort to take the back off, then from there more taking apart

ok, to make it easier to explain, I made a video. Sorry for talking so low.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypQBEARaw9E
I recorded that with my G1, the "broken" G1 is my brothers.
We have a serious problem, we cannot exchange it, we bought it last week and since we bought it has been having problems. We were going to take it to the store and then yesterday morning, it was like that, it was working "fine" at night. The problem is that we took it to the store, and the "dot" behind the battery is red, which "means" it got wet... but it didn't, I'm not going to lie, it didn't get wet my brother has taken care of that phone more than anything, it still has all the plastic protectors, even if the phone was acting really weird...
Ok ok, to the point. It doesn't do anything, as you saw in the video, when you press the power button the buttons flash until I depress it, and then they just stay on. The same happens when I try going into recovery, or bootloader modes, nothing... I decided to leave it like that for a few hours, nothing.
Either the device is bricked, the screen is damaged, or the whole device is screwed.... What do you guys think??
Thanks in advance.

It could very well be all 3. Did you guys get this from T-Mobile?
The dot in the battery compartment of my phone is red (well, orange I supposed) and my phone has never been wet and is working fine. I'd argue the case if I were you.

Dave

Yes we did get it directly from a (official) T-Mobile store (not a 3rd party retailer).. we went there and they complained about the phone "getting wet"... the phone looks perfect and never gotten wet.

I am going to argue, I already started arguing by calling tmobile directly but they *****ed about why didnt i take the phone within the 14-day warranty if it was giving me issues and waited for this to happen....... they couldn't do anything, whatever, I'm going to try to take this further because, just like you, I can assure you my phone hasn't gotten wet.
Can you help me an send me a picture of your phone? So I could have some proof, my own phone's dot is white, and some other phones from friends/family are also white...
Thanks!
I've heard stories of that indicator turning red/pink when people have left the phone in the bathroom while showering... supposedly a lot of steam can turn it red.

Yeah they told me about this, and I actually *****ed my brother about this but he doesn't do this, I do, and my phone is fine. Anyways, he told me he just leaves the phone charging in the room while he showers...
So I had to get a new one by claiming the insurance ($130 deductible.....) there was no win for me here...... the only thing was that I was able to keep the damaged phone.
I called HTC to try and figure out how much it would be to fix it. The lady that answered the phone said the symptoms were like those of a bad motherboard, and she said it'd cost me around $475 to fix it, wait, what??.....
So, know, idk what to do with this crap. I might try to repair it.
Thanks anyways guys!

Ah, right. Tell you what... since I'm volunteering my time to trace the circuit and my phone works perfectly, there is nothing for me to gain out of this, so I'm not the one to be asking for money.
If you can't afford it yourself, might be a community thing, but hold off for a while, there is someone else I've been communicating with privately who may be sending a bricked board, if it works out, then I won't need yours.
Ill volunteer a bricked board

Find a broken G1 on eBay or CG and try repairing it yourself. Might run you under $100 to do this and it's probably a great learning experience...not to mention you could end up with another working G1.

I have the tools and everything, Ive fixed phones, including iPhones, and also HW unlock on iPhones when there was that moment were SW unlock was not possible and I did like 2 HW unlocks... ok too much talk
Thanks anyways to every one, If I can't fix this I'd definately consider sending the MB to lbcoder
My ebay board just arrive! i hope to fix my phone tomorrow.
Shoulda just swap the stickers and got the warranty replacement.
Hi XDA,
I have an i9000 and a Captivate. One sad day last week, I dropped my captivate and cracked the screen . When plugged in or powered on, the 4 soft touch-keys at the bottom do light up and I can press them (they go dark as I press them, then light back up as they normally would).
I'm OK with paying $80 for a replacement screen/digitizer on ebay, as long as I know that will fix my phone. I'm worried that something else may be wrong internally?
Is there any way to check the functionality of the phone (perhaps through ADB?) or something I can do without having the screen turn on to prove that this phone will still work once I buy a new screen?
Thanks
Usually it is just due to the fact that the LCD is broken and can't display anything, at least that's what I would assume. You can try adb but that relies on the fact that you had usb debugging turned on beforehand. Another option would be to sell your cappy on eBay; broken phones can go for a decent amount, and you can find a new phone for a decent amount too.

I would be more concerned about what could possibly get damaged or broke during the screen replacement more than what internal damage dropping it caused.

Same, I don't recommend doing a replacement like this unless you know what you are doing. You might put it all back together just to find that wifi or something else randomly is broken.
I found a captivate with broken charger port on Kijiji for $40, and used that one as a parts phone. Stole the screen, and everything works great again .
I am studying Computer Engineering, taking these things apart is right up my ally. Just didn't want to waste money for nothing =/
Thanks all

Glad it worked out for you. Nice choice of major, that's going to be mine also.
Sent from a jelly bean
A couple of weeks ago I noticed that my power button felt different on my Z1. At first I thought it was my imagination, but more and more I was sure something wasnt right.
Last week on the way to work, my colleague who also has a Z1 used my phone to look at something and his first comment was "Whats up with your power button??"
It has no definite feeling when pressing it, its almost impossible to tell if you have pressed it or not, it looks and feels recessed too.
When trying his phone it was exactly as I remembered it to be, when you push it you can feel as response (small click or resistance), on mine there is nothing!
So I contacted Sony Xperia, who were suprised by the described issue. Long story short I have to return the phone to them for a 5 - 7 day turnaround repair.
Anyone else had the same issue? Or even sent their phone back to Sony in the UK? I am a little concerned that once it is prised open to be repaired it will never be the same again! All in all, for the £550 I paid for a premium handset, it is the first one that I have had any hardware issues with.

Mine do not come back yet, I sent it back via warranty 2 weeks ago. I will let you know. Anyway Sony Service have to provide best service for your phone and it should be still under warranty even when the phone come back to you but in which condition this is a mystery for all of us.

I think is needed a experience because you have to take apart all phone and I will suggest to let do this job to Sony. And of curse it will have to be seal again to make the water resistance working again. If you do all of this the warranty will be gone.
An update on mine, it got worse and now has been sent back for warranty repair at Sony, well they use a company called SBE Ltd in the UK
I'm not very impressed to be honest, this is the first phone I've had to return to the manufacturer for repair, this was meant to be a quality product. So there is at least 3 people with the same problem, maybe more who haven't noticed. Potentially there is an issue with the design or button component.
In so cheese off as I have to use a crappy Nokia Lumia 800 Windows phone for the period it is away!
I have been looking at a Nexus 5 or Note 3 as a replacement, selling mine on eventual return from repair..

I'm having issues with my volume down rocker. It is much harder to press then volume up it also doesn't have the clicking sound volume up gives when you press it. Of course I'm within my return window so I'm waiting for my replacement phone to get here so I can ship the one I currently have back

Ok, but if the button still working I think is not worth to open it and risk much more, BTW is not the button problem but the hardware component under the button.
Z1 button issue
I'm from India and have the same problem with the button. I bought Z1 around October last year. The button started getting worse gradually from the beginning of January, and now there's absolutely no feedback on pressing. It almost feels as if there's a spring under the button.
If anyone has given the phone for repairs to Sony for this issue, please reply. I'm also worried about the waterproofing and other possible damage to the device, specially given the fact that it's got a non-removable back so opening up the device might be a mess.
I've seen a video on YouTube about the z
As far as the Z is concerned there are about 4 screws and the rest is glued. Front- and backside.
Now, you can guess if the phone is still waterproof after putting it back together.
Even with skilled techs and the appropriate equipment I highly doubt it.
Here is the link
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPN930fohyo&feature=youtu.be
It's a German video but I think the pictures speak for themselves.
Best thing you could do is to ask the repair center for a guarantee on wich you can depend on (written of course)

It can be forever if you use the device properly and you you keep in mind to don't use the flaps a lot and keep them clean. Flaps like that can do great job for 2 years without problem but time and natural degradation is on they way, so if you will replace the flaps after this time is fine to me. But if you keep leaving the phone in you car on dashdoard under the sun all the time clearly this can compromise the assembly and the sealing of the phone. So practically depend of how you use your phone.

Yes , opening the phone for a button will be a mess and maybe is not covered by warranty so if the button working well I will not be worry about it. The day when it will not work then you will get the new button.

I started this thread, it is definitely a problem and you should get it repaired. Mine was sent back and now has been repaired, not very impressive for a "premium" handset!
It was only away for just over a week.

hi guys, am really desperate, helpless & feels like dying. my problem is.... a heavy knife (Gerber http://www.gerbergear.com/Military/Knives/06-Automatic-Knife_30-000850) fell on my Xperia Z1 & cracked my screen!!! :crying: the screen looks like it has a hole but when toughing it I feel nothing, unfortunately I can't unlock the phone coz I have it locked with a pattern to keep nosy people away from my private stuff of my family. Screen touch is a mess! it's not working & behaving like crazy jumping from camera to anything you can imagine, I tried connecting the phone to my PC to take my private stuff out of it but failed because the screen is locked & I have to unlock the phone first, second; I can't take my phone to the repair shop coz I don't trust any body on my private stuff & am dying to keep eyes away from those private stuff, so am kinda stuck between 2 living hells... am really mad, the feeling is beyond words coz I spent a lot of time to save the money to buy this 2 months old phone & now this happened.. is there anything to be done??

Your warranty is already void m8, cracked screens are not covered by warranty (at least not in the UK anyway)
You could use the USB OTG cable and attempt an unlock with the mouse in an effort to retain your data.
Or you could hold power vol up and down and power it off, plug it in whilst holding vol down to get to flashmode and flash an FTF using flash tool.
To do that just open flash tool, obtain an ftf file which you know you can flash, then click the lightening bolt, select flash mode and flash the thing.
But like i said because your screen is cracked, warranty isn't going to cover it anyway (unless you're in a location with a very generous warranty service) insurance is more than likely your best friend right now, in which case it won't matter if your phone is modded or not, with that in mind, your data is your only pitstop on the way to getting a new phone.

I know my warranty won't cover this incident & they are not generous at all here in Jordan!!
Regarding flashing the device, to tell you the truth am not an expert in this matter, infact never did it before & I don't know how & where to obtain the right FTF for my device so am confused about the whole idea of flashing, guess trying to access my data with an USB OTG cable is a more easier approach for me but am not sure if I have to unlock the screen first to enable this feature in the device!!!
To be honest with you, I've been watching too many youtube videos about how to replace the screen with a new one using the the right tools, it's a bit tricky & it needs expert & delicate hands of a surgeon, but I guess I have nothing to lose. Since yesterday I've been looking for a replacement screen & found some on eBay for ~160$ including the replacement tools, my only concern is the waterproof feature of the phone coz replacing the screen includes removing some special adhesive tapes/stickers & honestly am not sure where to get the original replacements for these tapes!!! I found some of these adhesive tapes on eBay but am not sure about the quality of these & I found different kinds/layers of tapes for the device?!! Second, am not sure which part of the screen is broken in my device, I have uploaded pictures of my device on flickr to give you a clue

so,
1- which part of my screen is broken & need to be replaced?
2- replacing the screen won't guarantee a waterproof device??
3- Should I do it my self or just buy the required screen, the tools & the adhesive tapes & give the whole stuff to a repair guy?
Am thinking of repairing the device & selling it, I know I might sell it for half of the purchase price but a new Xperia Z1 or even a new Z2 would add back a smile on my face
Sorry for making this long.. much appreciate your sympathy & help

Yes indeed mate :crying:
this is really a brilliant idea, never crossed my mind coz I was really depressed & can't think straight, thank you; one question regarding this matter, is my phone capable of powering up a simple PC mouse?

My guess is that both the front glass and the LCD below is broken, otherwise you'd be able to use the touchscreen, theres a protective screen over the front, i'm thinking that is the reason that you're not feeling shards of glass poking through.
Prices for the screen can't be cheap, heres one on amazon, no reviews and only one available, couldn't tell you that it's authentic or not.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Display-Scr...589979&sr=8-10&keywords=z1+replacement+screen
There are probably more people on here who know more reputable places to buy screens, i've never had to before so i'd be guessing m8.
As for the FTF's here is the mega collection thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2469191
Grab one for your phone from there and make sure to match the hardware up, so for example I myself have a C6903 so I will only ever flash an FTF for that hardware, doing otherwise could brick your device.
Flashing an FTF on lets say 290 to your phone will put it back to stock.
Flashing with flashtool is easy.
Download the firmware of your choice, lets say 290 for your hardware
Put it in the firmwares folder which is in the flashtool installation directory
Open the tool
Turn off your phone, (HOLD POWER AND VOL UP AND DOWN UNTIL IT VIBRATES THREE TIMES) then connect your phone whilst holding volume down and it'll put the phone into flash mode, nothing will happen on the phone but it may make a dink connection sound on your computer and flashtool will say device connected in flashmode.
Click on the lightening bolt
Click flash mode
A list will appear
Select the firmware you just downloaded.
Click flash.
Let it completely finish, if nothing happens or your phone tries to reboot, then repeat the turn off your phone step and allow the flash to finish.
Don't whatever you do unplug during the flashing process.
Thats all from memory m8, there are more detailed tutorials on XDA which you can follow, theres more than likely one in the MEGA Collection thread which i posted above.
Read up on it, but this is generally the way to do it.
As for fixing it yourself, I don't know how skilled you are m8, in all fairness I would get a quote from Sony how much they'll charge to fix it, at least that way you would retain some form of warranty. Going to a registered Sony engineer would give you the chance to put your case forward and most likely get the best price too.
But that's up to you m8.
Good luck.

well, I can't use the touchscreen because it's messed up that's why I can't unlock the screen which is locked with a pattern like I stated before.
For the part of having a registered SONY dealer here in Jordan yes there is but am not sure if it's registered & I don't think they have the skills to deal with an issue like this (at least guarantee a preserved waterproof feature after repairing the screen) because my sister's Xperia Z suddenly died, so she took it to this dealer & they told her the main board is dead, so they tried to repair the device (by installing a new board) instead of giving her a replacement, after 2 weeks of waiting she received her repaired device completely messed up: scratches on the back cover, back cover installed upside down !!! & they lost the SIM tray !! so she & I returned back to them & started a fight (not a fist fight lol) & we asked for the manager & after 2 hours of conversations they agreed to give her a new one. My point is, I think these dealers are SONY certified dealers to sell their products but they are not skilled to fix a thing though they claim the capability to do so!! Just for the record, if I want to buy this screen here in my country it will cost me 300$ for the screen only not the repair service, that's why am thinking of getting it from eBay/amazon...etc & try to do it myself or give it to a non-SONY repair shop coz we got smart repair guys that work in their own private workshops. Things here is my country are a lot different from the UK & many other countries that's why when an incident like this happen we suffer a lot & most of us ended buying a new phone on installments or cash if they are rich enough which is not my case!
For me having the skills to do it, well... I have great skills in assembling PCs, some PC software skills, I fix basic house electric & water problems when they occur, & when it comes to maintenance/repair am always patient & delicate & I don't start repairing things blindly, I make my own search, read repair tutorials & watch videos for these particular repairs & then go step by step repairing & I don't care if I spend 1 hour to finish an 8 min job, as long as am doing it right it doesn't matter. There are too may videos on youtube & they are pretty helpful in the matter of replacing my screen, all I need is the right tools & the guts to do so.

You don't need the touchscreen to do what i said.
If it were me in your position, i would do a good bit of research and bite the bullet and do it myself.
OR
Get those guys to do it, if they are registered Sony engineers then they represent Sony on a business level, which means liability afterwards is directed at them if something unrelated happens to the phone like a certain component misbehaving which could be directly related to what they've done then you're clean and they're to blame.
I'd be hesitant about going to a third party as they're more likely to give you the finger if something goes wrong afterwards.
Recently i bought the Sony Xperia Z4.. as you guys know it has a good perferences as i thought..
The thing is after about 2 months i thought about trying the waterproof function which sony company assumed that the device supports.. so i turned it off, washed it under fresh clean water for about 20 sec., dryed it out then i turned it on.. and guess what !! My half screen went black, the screen lights begin to go low.. so i turned it off and dryed it even more and left it away for some time then i switched it on once again and the screen lights were obviously not working anymore !! I could hardly see that it was actually on !! I turned off once again and left it for a while and now when i turn on (using the power on button and the volume button) it vibrates three times the the screen lighta goes crazy !!! On and off over and over then it goes dark and onfe again i can hardly see the screen.. but looks like there is water under the surface.. and it seems like the touch isn't workin i still dont know !!
What can i do ?? Can you guys please help ??
Im sorry for making it such a long story but i really feel bad about it..
Dude, that device of yours is still under warranty. Go and claim the warranty from your phone retailer..

Thanks for your respond man but the thing is 1st. I bought it without a warranty because we don't have a sony support here where i live.. 2nd. Even if i bought it from any phone shop with a warranty it's just means nothing here where i live xD they will just tell you it is your fault anyway.. so the warranty means nothing.. 3rd. I did a little research about it and guess what ?! The warranty is void if it was watter damaged !! That what sony company said..
I put it in the rice since y.day still didn't switch it on.. i don't know what to do, im afraid if i opened the back cover something wrong would happen and it will be even worse.. cuz im thinkin about moving the battery and drying it with the hair dryer and the vacum but im still afraid to do so..:crying:
Fact of the matter is my phone was waterdamaged 3 weeks ago on vacation. I came back to the shop which firstly refused me, but they will do this for customers who dont know stuff. What you need to do is state your case and since they know the phone is waterproof by certification they are obliged to help you. Basically you are forcing their hand at this point. Many shops will try to bull**** you but as soon as you wave around the fact that the phone is IP classed to hold in water to 1.5m then they will grant you a checkup and ultimately if you are found right in your complaints then you will get a new one.
I know cuz I did this and got my phone back 2 days ago.
