So after I tried out the dynamic Kat rom today, I restored back to my old stock rom, but now when I use volume up button on my earphone the sound decreases and the volume buttons does nothing. Pressing the music on button makes the volume louder. Can anyone fix this? Thanks.

It sounds like a dirty restore....or the nandroid backup may be bad...
How did you restore to stock ??...was it safestrap or Odin ??
You may need to pull the stock firmware and flash in Odin to get the function back...if a wipe and another nandroid restore doesn't fix the issue...
DO NOT ...accept any OTA's....
ATT is pushing patched kernel images to kill the towelroot exploit...so be careful...g
When I was on dynamic Kat the buttons also worked weirdly so I don't think it's the restore that's the problem.

Hi just flashed xmjg5 including the modem and csc included in the package and have placed samset 1.9f used titanium backup to restore apps and system data n now the phone keeps deciding to turn off when going into sleep mode and I have to use the 10 sec power button hold so it turns any help? Can it be because of apps? Or does it require re-flashing the firmware?

bad idea
don't restore everything back
you can try going into recovery mode
and select Wipe Data, then also Wipe Cache
if that doesn't work
reflash again with Odin3 then INSTALL the applications manually again. Fresh, no restore from titanium backup
because it will break the firmware settings.
Done now just testing to see if it stops thanks for the help m8

For those running cognition 3.04, does anyone else notice sometimes when you press the side volume rocker, it only controls the media volume. I would exit apps and wait a while but it doesn't seem to do anything. I can access ring volume by manually changing it in the sound settings panel. I would then have to restart my phone in order for the rocker to control ring volume again. I've tried locking and unlocking phone, but seems only a reboot will reset the rocker's control. Does anyone else have this issue?
Sorry, I don't seem to have the problem. Maybe reflash?

hmm I followed the instructions on how to flash from this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884364. i was coming from eclair so i didn't wipe with odin. so if i were to reflash, does it mean running clockwork again and choosing to install from sd card again, and selecting wipe data and cache as well? I've read in some threads you should use odin to go back to 2.1 then flash again with clockwork. Others have skipped that step altogether and used clockwork directly. sorry i am noob to the flashing scene, didn't want to wait for an AT&T update that probably won't come for a while. glad i found a way with users here to empower my own device
i followed there youtube vid to the t, it worked like a champ no troubles with anything.
Could be a bad flash +1
Okay, so when I had 2.1 I rooted my device, after this I used sqlite to mess with the settings.db and allow me to install 3rd party apps. I then updated to froyo and lost the root privelages but the settings are still the same. Now my hardware is messing up and I'm looking to return this under the warranty. What should I do about my settings?

I'd recommend the one-click Odin back to stock combined with an internal SD card wipe (after you've cleared your stuff to a safe place).
That should put you back in as clean, untouched of a state as you can get.
How should I go about clearing the internal sd? Sorry, I'm kind of new to this stuff.

Should I just do the format under the settings on the device?

The three button recovery on the phone has options to format the internal SD card as well. After you've flashed back to stock 2.1 power the phone down. Then power back on and hold down the power button and the vol + and - buttons until the ATT boot screen appears, blinks off and appears again. Then you should be in a screen with blue text. Use the vol buttons to choose and the power button to select. Do the data wipes and format the SD card. It should then be just like new as far as the software is concerned.
yesterday i rooted and installed safestrap... tried a few different ROMs but the issue i had was running out of room for my apps.
i wiped the stock rom and rebooted... not it won't go past the Samsung Note3 Custom screen.
i tried to reboot into recovery, and install a ROM from the sd card, but it isn't working, i get a few errors and once it's done, it still won't get past the samsung screen.
Can i fix this? or is it bricked?

This should be in the Q&A thread.
Since you have rom slot I assume you are on JB. You still can access to the recovery so that's a good thing. The rom that you are trying to flash are also JB? How long is it stuck on Samsung splash screen? Worse comes worse you can always use the restore to mj5 to unbrick it. A bit more work but by all means this is fixable and nothing major.

that's what I've found online... seems like that's the route I'll likely have to take.
I did backup my original OS/ROM but not sure how to load it. Looks like I'll be scouring google....

wow, i honestly thought I bricked this thing. I had already seen the Restore for MJ5 threads, so when it got linked in this thread I was thinking to myself "you M.F.... " lol.
A lot of this stuff is way over my head (i'm a stubborn bastard).....
But it's back!!! Thanks XDA people!
hey guys, my girlfriens SXL has a few issues. It has no vol up and vol down buttons. They broke off.
I managed to root the phone using the Chinese iroot apk and it rooted the phone with out a problem and managed to enter fastboot via quick boot apk.
Locally the bootloader was already unlocked.
So i used the Felshify apk to flash twrp.
It all went with out any problems.
And i flashed runny kitkat 4.4.2.
the rom is pretty nice and seams stable. But the phone has a nother problem besides the missing vol up and vol down buttons.
the head phones dont work. They didnt work on stock in the first place.
Could this be a baseband problem like on some other devices? Is there a different baseband that can be flashed?
or is it a internal device problem?
And are the parts for the headphones and vol buttons removable. Can they be changed?
