Hi !
I've already tried CM this summer (end of july) and I found it really nice but :
- The battery life was almost 2 times less long than stock
- The free space in storage was really small..
What about the speed now ? (i find .205 really fast and smooth)

What you should do is try out different kernels and find out the one which suits you the most.
Battery life depends on the way you use your phone. There are lots of stuff which you may not need that comes turned on with CM like NFC. Turning them off might give you a better battery life.
Underclocking,Undervolting,Using stable builds of CM are some of the things you can try
I'm using the rom of MrSteve555. It's smoother then stock .205/207. Battery is still an isue, but after the last update it seems to be it has less drain and there is now a fm radio.
Free space is no problem for me, i have a class 10 samsung sd card with 64GB. Btw... if you take a sd card i recommend a class 10, some other members got broken sd memory cards after a while, but class 10 will not be broken

According to the question I ask, I think I would like to standardize the "marking scheme"
1. Overall Performance
2. Boot up time
3. Battery Performance
4. Buggy?
5. Compatibility?
6. Internal memory after initial setup?
Thanks everybody! Just doing the research which one is the best.
I have used MIUI, CTM, etc... Want to get more information before I changed to another ROM.
I've only used Miui as I've never had any reason to change.
Overall Performance:
Seeing as it's BETA software, the performance all round is much, much better then stock.
Boot up time:
This isn't really an issue as I never turn my phone off. Unlikely computers phones are meant to be on 24/7 so boot time is moot in my eyes.
Battery Performance:
With every new kernel and update, I find my battery lasting that little bit longer. I can get around 1.5-2 days out of mine (as Miui has the option to turn off things / underclock).
Buggy:
For BETA software things break from time to time, although the things that do break aren't that important (Tether and the Theme Downloader mainly).
Compatibility:
What do you mean?
Internal memory after initial setup?
With a fair few apps I have ~30MB left.
cronos or iceandfire are the two best roms hands down...
Stock 2.2 is the best now imho
froyomod 2.4
I am using APAC (asia-pacific leak) since Friday, and it is absolutely brilliant - near perfect, I´d say.
By now you can also apply some themes, and the battery life is great!
The only problem I am personally having is that the app "LEDs Hack" doesn´t seem to be working at all anymore and I haven´t found anything else to turn of the Softkey-Backlights while in Dock Mode... once that is solved, I´d have the perfect ROM
Project elite
Used cyanogen for about 6 mo but alot of fc.went to sorcery for about a month, it looked great and performance was good but my cell reception was in the toilet. Now project elite since christmas and I have fallen in love with my droid again.they have the kernall clocked at 1100 ewhich will run warm after 1/2 hour so i clock to 900.status cool and stable plus you can eryn your browser as an iphone (which comes in handy for netflix)..keep that droid around it still keeps up or beats your friends phone....ps screw motorola for wanting to lock their bootloader.
MIUI is okay for me

It also works for me. I installed this "app2ext" and worked amazing. 6 HD games, 5 Normal Games, 30 Apps+ And i still have 80mb free !
The only thing i don't like is the fact that MIUI launcher doesn't have scrollable widgets compatibility .

+ 1 for CM6...plus kabaldan has done so much for us milestone users and he still helps out.

CyanogenMod 6.1.2 is my choice, fast fixes for bugs and like MIUI, after installing a ton of apps (over 30 as well) I stil have over 80mb free.
I've been on stock Eclair most of the time and it of course bugged me a lot. Tried Froyomod 2.2 and had the fast battery drain issue, now I'm using FroyoMod 2.4 and seems to be *much* better now.
I'd like to see the stock 2.2, but...
The bset ROM I've yet tried has to be the APAC leak, the latest nandroid. Its incredible. Kicks Nexus ass, bigtyme !
1. Overall Performance : Incredible. There is no other way to explain this.
2. Boot up time : NOt much of an issue, but if ur still interested, its almost equivalent to other roms available.
3. Battery Performance : The best Ive yet seen after trying every mod available, excet shadowmod. It gives me 2.5 days till discharge. For the milestone, thats a colossal feat.
4. Buggy : Not at all. No bugs found yet. Been 2 weeks.
5. Compatibility : Everything runs. Without applying external updates, or software hacks.
6. Internal memory after initial setup : 158MB. But most of my apps are on SD, So i Still get about 102 MB free on my phone.
FroyoMod 2.4c & G.O.T 2.2.1
_ MIUI is good for me now!
Now i'm using Froyomod 2.4, but a brazilian guy Edgar Castro launched new shadowmod version based on gingerbread.
I will install today.
I would also say CM6 is the best in terms of performance. Just to add on (NOT MEANING TO TAKE OVER THIS THREAD, just a suggestion), could we add how much mb of ram is available after boot? (E.g you could use advanced task killer, or memory booster just to see how much is available (BEFORE KILLING APPS) )
Hmph. I guess I'll have to do a major cleanup
38MB after boot.
Hi i got my samsung i9000 yesterday and immediatly flashed it to the cm7 mod. The battery seemed to die very quick today got about 5 hours music out of it. Also when i free memory the maximum i get is 150mb. Surely that cant be right when it has 512. Is something wrong or does that seem normal?
Thanks

There is no way to estimate if your battery usage is normal, not enough information. However 150MB free is pretty typical of all Galaxy S ROMs. CM7 actually tends to have a bit more free memory then most. You need to remember most of the memory of your phone is busy being...y'know..a phone.
Just making sure just feels abit weird after coming from an iphone 4 that had 300+ memory available.
Is there a way to get my phone to run as smooth and as quick as the Samsung Galaxy S 2?
Really annoying that my phone is rooted and customed Romed and yet my gf's stock galaxy is so much quicker than mine!
Any ideas?
My current room in my sig
Also overclocked as well.
im not sure how thats even possible. my moms galaxy s2 is also stock, but with MUCH less apps and stuff on it, but it cant even come close to how my phone runs.

What rom and set up do you have?
I'm also using go Launcher for home screen.
Tried this V6 thing and still doesn't appear any quicker although some of the options to select in the process didnt make much sense to me?
i was using go launcher ex, cm7 temaseks kang 91 and etana kernel version 1204021106 LOC DS version, but i changed to 1204021107 LOC LITE version few days ago (testing which gives better battery atm) but i have a profile set for the cpu to be max on 1Ghz (i tend to try and save battery ). also i have a 48 mb ramhack enabled
maybe your sd card is defective ? (im using class 4 8gb atm) because i had an sd card that was acting REALLYYY slow and after a while it just broke down.

Sounds similar to mine but just so grrrrr my side. Frustrating.
Total noob here, so please go gently on me. I've searched the Nook HD/HD+ General Forum and could not find any threads on this- forgive me if I missed them.
I'm on my second HD+. The first one would overheat and shut down. I've seen online that this is a common problem. The new (recertified) one also heats up in the lower left quadrant when using a browser, but it hasn't shut down (yet).
I've tried CM11 on SD just for fun, but it freezes several times an hour on me, which makes it hard for me to give Kitkat a fair trial. Honestly, I don't have any issues with the Nook stock ROM. I've put Holo Launcher on it, and it does everything I want to just fine (photo frame, reading, simple games, videos, etc.).
I would be willing to root and/or EMMC CM ROM if it would help with the overheating issue without sacrificing stability or battery life.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
Heat issues
I had heat issues with stock and all CM11 roms. However....Pac Rom seems to have solved the issues.
Go here for how to : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2705381
I've tried many of these ROMs and am using this with ZERO problems. Don't forget to turn off location services and be chincy with apps you let run in the background. No CNN widgets.

I am using the latest TWRP .... http://forum.xda-developers.com/nook-hd/development/recovery-unofficial-twrp-2-7-1-0-t2828280
Not sure if this will flash with CM recovery...Think so..just not sure.
Either way...Pac Rom has been the best so far for my Nook HD+

They all get a little warm in the lower left the CPU is there and they don't have fans. It should not get so hot as to be uncomfortable though.

In my experience CM10.x and CM11 run noticeably cooler than stock ROM.
What brand & class of SD did you use? Generally class 4 is better than class 6 or 10 for running ROM off SD -- see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1005633 for discussion of comparative performance of different SD makes/models for the purpose of hosting ROM.
Thank you all for your help. I guess if it doesn't shut down, I can live with it warming up a bit.
Have any of you had any instability issues with the ROMs you're currently using? Any effect on battery life?
The SD card I'm using is a SanDisk 16GB class 4 micro SDHC. I played with it some more today, and it's no better- still freezes quite often.

I never liked running ROMs on any SD cards because the internal memory is usually much faster on these sort of devices. I'm not 100% sure (maybe someone who is can chime in), but I believe that you're not going to have TRIM support with a SD card so the system is going to slow down over time.
Thanks ryanl2299. I'm only running on SD as a trial. I realize that running it on EMMC would be faster and more stable. But I have seen in forums that some people still have problems running ROMs on EMMC.
If the overheating issue becomes more of a problem (i.e. random restarts/shutdowns), I just want to know if there are any apps or ROMs which would improve the overheating issue. If there are any ROMs which would help, I most certainly do an EMMC install (as long as I'm not trading one problem for another due to the ROM being unstable).
Thanks again for everyone's input!

Technically, the stock ROM is not much different than Pac-Roms or CM10 or CM11 or Vanir, Omni or Android box Wasser. Sure there are elements that differ from device. We all need to be able to freely change to custom ROMs for our device and go back and forth. It's like overclocking your pc. The stock B&N Rom can be backed up and restored. Always do a back up on good SD card. Perhaps even upload your backed up ROM to a cloud source.
I will probably die with my HD+ in my hand.
Vanilla Droid is always best.

How you use it will effect heat more than any rom will (think games vs reading).
Though, I'm wondering if down clocking the cpu would help or hurt.
Or how about art instead of dalvic. Chrome instead of firefox. low brightness vs. full brightness, in 90 degree weather vs indoors. Etc. Course all that could be included under how you use it as well and all of it can affect heat output.
I have never worried about overheating when used within reason - they should not overheat except for a factory defect or outside of reasonable conditions of which the latter should be covered under technical boundaries and common sense. If your in direct sun and it feels too hot then move the device into the shade. etc.
ART didn't work
Switched to ART on my Nook HD+ using pac_ovation 4.4.4 08252014. The tablet works amazingly well with Dalvik. ART seems fine....can't tell much difference in speed. Wish this tab had a quad core. Truly good stuff with Omniswitch and Slim Recents along with the app bar. Love it.

Sorry to hijack the thread. Do you feel PAC gives you better smoother performance. What score do you get with antutu 5?
Do you still get screen flashing if you don't disable hardware overlay?
I'm running cm11 and it's OK but always looking around [emoji1]
Thanks.
Hi Guys this Is Joel back with another review of Cyanogenmod 13 which is the latest beta of CM
As we talk about Cyanogen Roms, the CM bugs are more or less the same, BUT in this case, IT ISN'T.
The Rom here is the best CM Rom encountered by me.
The great thing about this Rom is that there are very few bugs which can be classified as minor ones.
Talking about this Rom, It rocks.
Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 with latest security patch i:e April 2 , 2016.
We users get 1.92 or 2.00 GB storage in internal one And i have installed around 93 apps and i have still got 200 or 220 MB storage free.
Battery here is good with my heavy apps for performance and battery testing i can use the phone for around 10 to 11 hours which is the great for 1700mh Battery.
Performance Animations are awesome that u will never regret this Rom i get 340 to 400 MB RAM free which is enough for multitasking.
At last, it has got all the features that a CM Rom should have like customizing StatusBar,Lockscreen Pattern sizes i:e 3X3 6x6 9x9 etc.
Now the bugs,
1) Animation problem while opening the camera app by double clicking the power button.
2)Sometimes goes into deep sleep.
3)Encountered problems while using the app Hotstar.(Not a big deal)
At last Perfect Rom is still to come but i would not recommend this ROM to those people whose 80 to 90% work depends upon their mobile.
i have made a video in accordance to this ROM so do check it out.
The link :

Is rooting available for this ROM?

Yes, it comes with inbuilt superuser and if you don't like it, you can also use SuperSU
