[Q] Does Encryption work on TouchPad - TouchPad Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just wondering if the encryption that comes on the 4.x builds works with the TouchPad. I've tried enabling it, and all I get is the green little droid character on screen, but no status indication of what's going on. The device goes to sleep and I can unlock it, but it doesn't look like encryption is doing anything.
Any ideas?

McBean -- did you ever get it to work? I'm in the same situation.

I am having the same problem as my employer is using a secure client which enforces that my Google Tablet be encrypted so that I can continue to connect to their Exchange server...
I am running CM9 where Flash seems to work - I was wondering if going to CM10 or 11 might give better luck for encryption ? Not sure if any folks out there have tried these CM builds ?

No WiFi in WebOS

So I picked up a couple of used 32GB Touchpads Both were stuck at the setup screen waiting for WiFi to find a network. They would just continually scan.
So I bypassed the setup, neither WiFi or Bluetooth will turn on. I tried a few fixes I found on the internet with no luck. Enable then Disable Airplane mode, Leave it running trying to turn on BT and WiFi overnight on a charger. I rolled it back to 3.0.0 then back up to 3.0.5 one by one with the same results.
I decided to go ahead and try CWM and see what happens. WiFi and Bluetooth work perfectly in CM9 and CM10??!!?? Not a single issue. So I went back to WebOS and since I don't have WiFi I used WOSQI to install Uberkernel and Govnah, thinking maybe a new kernel would fix it. The same results as before.
For the life of me I am stuck. Sure Android works perfect but I would still like to figure out where the problem is.
Anybody have any ideas?

So far I have tried editing the tokens, replacing them with working tokens from other TP, deleting the tokens and restarting, forcing a new mac through novacom. The closest I have come is a mac showing for etho in ifconfig but no wirelss at all in iwconfig and the token still shows all 0s for the mac.

What security is your WiFi using? I've seen issues with either WEP or WPA, Can't remember which. Whichever it is, you might try to change the security type to get it to log on.

yeah I think it was WEP problems in webos
my touchpad don't see any wifi, the little icon in the status bar don't light up. i'm the original os and i'm stuck at the setup page because i need the wifi to set up everything.
When you say that you're on the original operating system which one do you mean as there was 3.00,3.02,3.04 and 3.05.
Have you tried webOS doctor.
When was it last working?
Might also be worth turning off all security on the Wifi temporarily and see if it connects. As others say a little more information, which WebOS, and whether you have doctored, etc recently.

[Q] Bluetooth Issues After Stopping Sixaxis Controller

Hey all, so I recently spent some time learning up on these awesome forums, and at least for getting started I decided to just modify stock 2.2, I have just really wanted to be able to play games using my ps3 controller on my nook so I thought the easiest path was to root using the Universal Rev3, and the Unknown Apps, at least to get me started. I have a bluetooth keyboard I also use with this setup for school. Okay so that's the upfront details.
My issue is that, while my bluetooth is connecting fine with everything before I run sixaxis, and my controller works (yay, i got what i wanted!) while I'm running the program, it's when I stop sixaxis and it restores my bluetooth (or says it does... or gets stuck and never says it does) my bluetooth simply can't be switched back on until after I reboot... I've completely stopped and disabled and cleared the cache on the sixaxis app... and nothing, still won't turn back on. Now this is a cadillac issue, my controller works, my keyboard works, but I just have to reset. The problem is that I know it shouldn't be this way and if it has to be, I'll survive, but if not I'd love a way to make it work right, or at the very least see if there's an option to... "respring" (I know that's an iphone thing I just didn't know if there was a faster equivalent to a reboot without having to completely turn it off and back on)?
Anyone else had this problem? Any thoughts? Any options? Thanks for your time and information, have a great day!
"t's when I stop sixaxis and it restores my bluetooth (or says it does... or gets stuck and never says it does) my bluetooth simply can't be switched back on until after I reboot..."
Obviously, its at the fault of the app, because otherwise (sixaxis not installed/used) bluetooth would function properly and no restart would be required.
Therefore, sixaxis is not ending support of the controller properly, re-enabling bluetooth support, or whatever its trying to do for the device, android version, or whatever its problem is in code.
Probably good to let the app's dev know about it and find out if they say anything.
Since root access is required, it definitely requires some deeper access to android (the deeper the more problems are likely to occur). Some code doesn't even work for all devices and they could have gone that route with their app knowingly - whether it was a necessary side effect due to the type of app they created or specifically because of a workaround of what google allows devs to do with android.
Either way it is often an app with problems as reviews show.

Hey thanks a ton for the information. I had started to suspect that but since I'm a noob here I thought it was best to ask. Will contact the developer. But hey for now if all I have to do is a reset after a gaming session to make all things right, it's not so bad. Thanks again!
EDIT: Okay, so after doing some fiddling with my own Nook HD+ it looks like the Nook itself has trouble shutting down bluetooth! When I go into my battery use bluetooth is staying on permanently after initially turning it on. The time continues to run no matter what I do or shutdown with Android Task Manger. And it appears I'm not the only one. http://bookclubs.barnesandnoble.com...Bluetooth-won-t-turn-off-Nook-HD/td-p/1462091
Also since mine is rooted and has unknown sources installed I felt like I needed a control group. So I borrowed my wifes Nook HD+ which is completely stock, no mods at all... and it does the exact same thing... This is mind boggling. Could a few people turn their bluetooth on long enough to register in their battery monitor, then turn it off, and tell me if their time is still running for the bluetooth? It would really help me identify whether this a software problem with Nook software, or it's a hardware issue that they had amongst several models and they shipped with bad parts, etc. Thanks!

It could also be this or similar: https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=69135
Quote, "Problem: When turning off the Jawbone, it causes the Bluetooth(BT) to misbehave and not turn off nor function."
...Though that's for android 4.4.2 and nook 2.2 is android 2.2... wow that's old... that could of course be it as well - if the problem is with android, it could have been fixed in a later android version.
In the end, it doesn't appear to have to do with the device itself, but perhaps with that android version's bluetooth package or an installed app. And which android version (if any) would work for you idk. I remember people saying cm and sixaxis didn't work with bluetooth on the nook in the past, so if that's still the case, don't know that either.
I'm not sure how far back many apps are going today with android versions but something like: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.myklos.btautoconnect&hl=en
could possibly do something(?). But, I'm just reaching there for anything in the you never know category.
But hopefully that gives a better picture as to what it could be. Sorry, I can't give an actual [working] solution, though for all I know I gave a path to the only solution.

[Q] Does Encryption work on Droid 3

Does anyone know if any of these ROMs for the Droid 3 has encryption working on it?
My company enabled encryption as a required feature in order to get mail and whatnot on my device, so I "need" to figure it out, or go back to stock.
I found the encryption section in the settings, but I just get the little green droid icon on screen, and never see a progress bar or indication that encryption completed successfully.
Anyone have any ideas if it works?

Does it allows to turn WiFi on?
WiFi comes on and then turns off by itself?
[CLOSED] fixed -
re-installed "9", everything working again.
I've had this too. Sometimes wif-fi just refuses to re-enable after the TP goes to sleep. The toggle moves and then just slides back. The only way to re-enable is to reboot. I'll give a re-install a go when the next version is released as it is not a major problem for me. Just thought I'd mention it as it is not an isolated incident.

I have not experience that "yet".
Make sure the WiFi connection is " Treat as unmetered" ( this is Android feature ) not ROM
Besides that, any settings or extra Apps that the user install could make WiFi work differently.
Also Android 9 must use a swap partition and the settings from the Guide.
I've not actually in stalled much as I still prefer to use webOS!! Hate me if you like but Android & iOS are now bringing in their own versions of gestures and 'cards' that webOS had nearly 10 years ago. On this basis I still have the Swap file so all is good there.
I'll check the Android settings later to make sure, however for the device to be working fine, put down (in the 6 year old wireless charger) and left for a couple of hours and then you cannot enable wifi does not sound like an issue with the basic Android settings. Either this in an install problem, a ROM problem or a hardware problem. As there just 2 of us with this and _dave reinstalled and it seems to be good for him I'll presume it is an install problem for now and just live with it until I get bored - or an updated ROM is released.

I do agree with you on the WebOS interface and we clearly see now how the others mobile OS have implemented the WebOS gestures and other things.
On this basis I still have the Swap file so all is good there.
WebOS was the first and truly a mobile operating system designed for a Tablet and the swap partition is part of that.

I have been running youtube playing music since 8 am this morning and now is 3pm data usage for that tablet is over 2 GB and I have the Super variant install of Open Gapps, the maximum that can be flash. WiFi does not drop as is all working. I turn WiFi on and off, it reconnects. When dealing with WiFi there are two devices involved and two settings, router and tablet. I had issues with disconnects and it was due to my manual settings that I had on the router and there was interference. I mostly set up all settings to auto, selected channel 11 that does not have much interference "where I am" and all went away.
Either this in an install problem, a ROM problem or a hardware problem. As there just 2 of us with this and _dave reinstalled and it seems to be good for him I'll presume it is an install problem for now and just live with it until I get bored - or an updated ROM is released.

When describing an issue, it must be very specific.
1. WiFi does not reconnect to the same wireless network ( does not see it) WiFi icon is outline but not filled.
2. WiFi is completely off, does not see any network ( WiFi icon is not visible ) OFF
What is the graphical status of the WiFi icon next to the battery icon ( outline or filled )?
OK. As I just posted to show that _dave was not alone, I think (for me) this is getting out of hand. Whilst I do appreciate your time and knowledge, it is simply (again for me) not a significant problem.
However. If I use the TP it is not a problem so streaming music would be in the realms of using. The issue I have is that after using it I place it inthe dock and when I pick it up again hours later I sometimes find wifi is not enabled. I got to settings and toggle the 'slider' to ON and a second later the 'slider' moves back to the OFF position. I simply cannot make the 'slider' stay in the ON position. If I restart the TP everything is fine and dandy again.
So for me a quick reboot is sufficient to keep me using this ROM. I know I can roll back to an earlier ROM or even try Pie again like _dave did. As we seem to be the only two users that have voiced a problem here and he has fixed his I cannot ask you to look into this further - unless there are other users that are also affected.

Settings --->> Network & Internet --->>WiFi ( connected WiFi is the first one ) to the right (the blue icon)

Also WiFi will take time to connect again after the Tablet comes out of standby (sleep)
What kernel speed did you flashed from the Guide?

Thanks, got it
For some reason I did not installed any kernel speed-up, should I and can I just add it now (already setup)? I'm thinking of using the 1728000 version or should I go higher?
Thanks for all your support.:good:

It is a must and that is why the guide was created and those files fixes issues with the non working Bluetooth and the performance of the ROM, is not only to speed-up. It clearly state to flash in the specific order.

3. Open gapps (Pico recommend)

If you are not familiar or know the maximum CPU frequency your tablet can handle flash the 1728 if you experience reboots then try lower. If want to get better performance then try 1782 and 1836 if the tablet can handle it.
But always follows the instructions exactly as posted it, that is how the ROM was tested and guarantee to work.
You are welcome!

I started over again and flash the ROM then the 172 and pico app, didn't have a reboot problem but I lost WiFi again (keeps going off, even after rebooting). So, I dropped down to 1674 and everything working again. I'll stay with 1674 for now, at least until the next ROM update.

Yeah, tried LuneOS (it's many iterations) and although it is moving in the right direction it is still not as polished as webOS was when it died (has it ever actually died?). I still use apps from the old app store but Android is just easier as it is up to date and works. If webOS development was restarted and brought fully up to date with a decent stocked store it would (and should have) been a great success. Oh well :crying:
I thought about a LG TV but can't justify the cost whilst my Sammy TV is working

Also check your router settings if there are interference on the channels and is set to automatically change channels the Tablet may have issues updating to the new channel.

A higher frequency that the tablet can not handle will make it reboot or freeze, using the closer highest frequency for the Tablet will make it work better.

LuneOS is work in progress, but at least the built it browser works well. WebOS is alive on the LG TVS

The most important on any OS is the Apps available that add functionality.

Developers support and willing to develop App for the platform is the key to a successful OS.

I think that the only thing that is need it is a Theme pack to cosmetically make Android 9 look like WebOS. The gestures are the same.
LOL you're forgetting QT web browser and QupZilla on the TP now
I have the theme and Fling settings on an old Experia but that didn't feel right (there was a tutorial a while back in Pivot). Palm had the interface/UX just about perfect but it was never loved by the public and HP didn't really give a sh*t.

To me Pie is very similar to WebOS, even the charging sound is very similar to the finished boot sound in WebOS.
All is changing and we must adapt to it, to be able to keep the Tablet updated and useful.
Android Q is already in Beta, who knows if it will boot in the HP TP and the developers will take the challenge.
Hi HP_TOUCHPAD, once again I cannot get my TP to see my WiFi (rest of my devices - no problem). And once again the "advance" section does not show up in "Network & Internet" section. So how do I get the "advance" section to show up again.

@_dave sorry for the delay. Staring with Oreo 8.1 if any changes are done to the router the WiFi connection will be lost and the Tablet will not see the WiFi signal that was connected to and a reboot is required. If the router was changed then, select forget network and connect again. The same issue is present in Pie 9.
