Does anybody know how to prevent government eavesdropping AND forced Tilt updates from ATT?
If the answer is no, I would like this forum to become a channel for developing a program/process to re-gain control over the phones WE PAID FOR.
Worry not, no swat team is coming...no suits are coming.
I'm not mafia or a criminal so my tapping seems very unjustified. But most of all, I hate my resources being used dis favorably.
Thanks!!

Better watch out, they know you posted this and now they are mad..
There, there I see them.
AH they have a lock on you.
OMG EVEN DOGS ARE CHASING YOU..
ah you can't even hide in a hole.
Sorry dude
They can't spy on me if they can't see me.
The raptors can smell you.
While your question is reasonable
it is unlikely to have a positive answer.
As for preventing listening, no. Any level of encryption that would prevent government access would likely be a hardware device, not a software implementation.
As for stopping forced upgrades, I did it simply by unlocking my Tilt and moving it to T-Mobile.

As am I, and I have never gotten a forced update either.
Well except when they sent gunmen to my door and forced me to upgrade
from WM 5 to WM 6, oh no wait wait, that wasn't AT$T that was Sprint.
Okay nevermind, yes AT$T has never forced me to upgrade.
My brother has supposedly seen this technology in action. He imports a ton of military hardware (flakjackets) to different countries even including submarines.
He said that a few ex government types he deals with use it like a post meeting eavsdrop. They listen to what the people thought of them after the meeting by activating thier cell phones some way.
He didn't specifically say how they did it, but he did say that everyphone in the last whatever years has it built in. Any the only way to stop it is to take the battery out of your phone.
IDK if it is true, but he sounded very serious when he said it, and he usually doesn't fool around like that.

I do enjoy the fact that he is worried about the feds listening in on his conversations, but asks for help defeating them on a public forum. Now that is irony. Oh, and enjoy the pic in my sig block.
Somewhere, there is a Chloe O'Brian after you.
Actually... He might not be so paranoid... here is a story that ran on Fox News in the US...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iwl7mEHb4RM
The US Gov has already established that Cellphone users can "expect no privacy" because it is wireless and signals can be intercepted, thus police and gov officials do not need a warrant to listen in and record calls on a cell.. And according to the news above.. they can listen in all the time, even if the phone is turned off...
Well then when is he doing that he must worry about them listening in. If tapping into my phone saves a life then do it. I'm sure you will hear great conversations..
Chumley "Are you hungry"
Friend "yeah what about you"
Chumley " yeah, where do you wanna go"

Chumley "really? because I know I will say a place and you won't go"
Friend "like where?"
Chumley "chinese buffet"
Friend "yeah, no I don't want that"
Chumley "so where do you want to eat"
Friend "anywhere but chinese"
Chumley "right"
I would hate to think that Obama over heard that..
Or I guess if they just turn the phone on when noone knows.
Chumley "Damn she's hot"
Friend " omg look at those @#[email protected]#"
Chumley "I think i love her"
Friend " I don't think she's old enough"
Chumley "ah it's all good, she's at least 15"
Waitress "can I get you anything?"
Chumley " yeah another beer and a shot of whisky"
Friend "and your phone number"
Waitress " ok, a beer, a shot and nothing for your friend"

Chumley,
I find it very funny that you friend just got shot down virtually.
do some research people, the governmnt cannot listen in on a US unless approved by the attorney general and a few others. DO YOU HEAR THAT YOU FED BASTARDS?!?!?!
I still wear my tin-foil hat... just in case though.
As far as I know, the AT&T Tilt does not support Firmware Updates Over the Air. The only AT&T phone that can do that is the Motorola Q9h, and it hasn't ever gotten and update to my knowledge. Besides, you can opt out of the update before you install it. However, as far as the US government listening in, I don't know about that one. Just a few days ago, some document was released by the government that allowed the military to "search and seize terror suspects" without a warrant, so I would never assume that you're totally safe, even on a cell phone. Here's the article for anyone who's interested.

I post this in Off-topic because its not related to the phones.
I recently received a Racism/Stereotypical Infraction for saying that I do not want to deal with Indians if AT&T merges with T-mobile, and that Indian calling centers are horrible.
So who do I contact to dispute it? Would I get ban next time if I say Indians, Americans, Mexicans, Italians? Its ridiculous.

If you got infraction points u should write to an admin , similar rediculous stuff happened me but didnt get points so i didnt make a deal about it

People in this thread would probably not get pissed. I wouldn't if someone cracked jokes about Malaysia or Chinese, because it will be real funny.
I suppose that being overly politically correct would be just stifling, especially since a lot of people are defined by their cultural stereotypes. On that note, if we would be completely homogeneous, there would be no differentiation and soylent green would be an acceptably delicious food item.
Of course, I laughed at the OP's crack at Indians. I still remember Slumdog Millionaire
It doesn't help that the OP could possibly be right, and sometimes Indians have a way of over-rrrrrolling their rrrrrs in a funny way to the point that it is difficult to understand.

Surely you do understand that if xda does not punish you in some way for making a rascist comment then they are seen to be condoning it, and therefore being rascist themselves?
The slightest remark that tarnishes any particular race of people has to be considered rascist, whether the intention was to hurt or not.

If he doesn't have the wherewithal to say "I'd rather speak to a native english speaking person than someone who may have an accent that I don't understand", then he should keep his comments to himself. I do suspect, however, that he's perfectly capable of being clear about his issue, and does not require people to make up stories about what he meant when he said something else.

Perhaps just saying:
"I'm sorry, I did not intend for what I said to sound racist, I'll try to be more careful in future how I say things"
Would probably avoided the points etc. But yeah, don't worry about it, it'll not go into your school report and I'm sure no one will bring it up if you become President.
It is all subjective, like bad language, sometimes I don't even notice it on TV and sometimes even the slightest not-even-a-swear-word can annoy me.
I'm sure you didn't intend to be racist and if that is the case, no problem. It was probably the potential discussion that could have developed rather than the comment itself.

funny article is funny
Isn't it funny how people read a news headline and don't bother either reading the full article or researching the background behind afore-mentioned article.
This is not a plan to clamp down on people posting idiotic comments in an Off-Topic forum. This is aimed at finding and prosecuting the people who post nasty, malicious comments on the Facebook page of a 13 year old girl who took her own life. Is there a single person on this forum who thinks that is acceptable behaviour or who feels that sort of 'troll' should be protected from legal action?

There was one recently where the guy got prosecuted for "trolling", as it was called. He'd been leaving comments on facebook pages of people who had died, and their family members. But it was posted on here saying "We'd best be careful or we'll get arrested!"
Really not the same thing. I don't think there's many people on this forum that would even hesitate to report that kind of foul behaviour, let alone do it!
I'm pretty sure it would be insta-perma-ban, without warning.

Can't Wait....
revenge is sweet
I can't wait to show off the Jelly Bean voice search capabilities to all the hard core iPhone fanatics that I work with. They try to show off Sir's capabilities whenever we fly somewhere and it never does what they want it to.
The Google Search and Google Now will have then envious, but unfortunately they are too hard core and will pay premium dollars for the next Apple gadget when it is released.
Coming from an iPhone 4s user, I must say: Google's implementation is astounding. The voice is much more human-like than Siri, and it seems to load faster as well. However, while I love The Verge, I think they are missing the point of Siri. Siri's goal is not to be the fastest, end-all voice recognition solution. It's main selling point is how personal it can be when communicating to the user. From these tests, its obvious that Siri is much more personable, even if its takes longer to load. I'll have to test them both out when my N7 arrives I guess .

You know, I just watched that video yesterday and the review of the Nexus 7 on The Verge this morning, my bad. I agree that by having a more realistic voice, Google's service can be more personable, I think it is the detail that Apple put into Siri's results that make it more dynamic. When he asks for Kobe's height, they both give out the information, but Siri gives a player card with all sorts of information. What I am trying to say is, the way Siri presents information to the user is more appealing than Google's modified search results.

That isn't the point, if I ask for a players height why do I need all of his stats? That's not appealing to me, what if I don't even like sports and was looking it up for an article or something like that, no need what so ever for all of his other stats. If I wanted that I would ask for player bio. Especially if it's going to slow down my search as well it just doesn't make any sense.
Edit: Also, you sound like a major fanboy. You realize that your device doesn't do something as good so you cling onto something else that you think makes your device better. Bravo sir.

On the personal note, I really look out for an assistant whom I could teach stuff, make it do things my way - I sure this is not difficult to implement.
Apple releases features / software which others device makers have released like years in advance - and that gets touted as "great" with all the fan fare. I have been part of the crowd which has let this happen, own 3GS, 4 and 4S. But I still carry around my Nokia E71
Wow..you guys are brutal...just cause i guy preferred siri over the New Google voice doesn't make him a "fanboy".
Let's be civil and respect each other's opinions.

I would say we are being civil, just kind of sad at how hard they have to draw at straws to try and convince everyone they have a device worth owning. I'm done though

he asked the phones for Kobe Bryant's height, google now answers with a direct answer, while siri answers with almost irrelevant information, how is that better dude?

IMO while the Google voice is better and from these tests its much faster ice gotta agree with the previous poster siri does present the information in a better way. While Google answered the direct question siri also answered the direct question but also bought up the player card with additional stats with out asking... its a choice if preference
Siri- exactly the answer you wanted
+ some extra info/stats on screen of your interested
Google exactly the answer you wanted but only the answer yo wanted.
I'll still go for the Google one over apple even tho siri IMO presents it better. Google will catch up/ exceed it very quickly.

It's crap like this that will end up forcing me to lock this thread.
Either treat each other with respect and courtesy or I swear to God I'll turn this thread around and none of us will get to go to Disneyland.

The way I see it is that Apple have had Siri for a while and still can't get it right. Google hasn't even officially released..... what ever they're calling it and people are liking it. I've never been a huge fan of voice recognition stuff since it never understands my oh so too English voice. But Google's voice thing somewhat works for me so I might end up using it a fair bit.
Impressive. Are the local based questions (i.e. sport) limited to US users only?

My guess is that is should be pretty world wide so no matter where you are you get the info you want. The voice thing also searches Google's search engine so no matter what you'll get something.
How could u siri,

In response to this, while yes siri has given you a few more pieces of information and google gave you the direct response. Remember, all other search results are right under that card. Simply swipe that card away and now you have WAY more information if you needed it then siri. If you were to view the web results on siri, it would take way more time for siri to open the browser, then run that search again, google did both at the same time.

So, i have an ex that i love, and it is pissing her off. she now hates me, with whatsapp blocked and skype contact deleted, also twitter muted. Who doesn't hurt being treated that way?
Also, can she receive my mentions, even though i am muted?
PS. I am not blocked

Dude, she obviously doesn't love you. Get over her. Get drunk. Get a life. Stop being obsessed with her. She doesn't want to have a relation with you anymore. Done. End of story. Thread closed.
Do you know why a previous relationship is called EX? It's not the term for the past. EX is sort for EXpired..

@OP.... sorry bro dont use twitter...just came by for this:
@others
(not being rude..)
instead of giving him suggestions to get over her and other things you could have answered his Q. does she still receive it or not? simple. he will do what he wants too.
I don't think she will receive it if you are blocked/muted.
I have someone blocked on Twitter and I tested it by sending out tweets that they would react to.
Nothing. I got no response.

don't force someone to listen when they don't want to.
if you really love her,
give her a life and let her go.
her life no longer revolves around you neither is yours.
hurt is only a temporary manifestation of fear and dissapointment,
meditate on what is truly the path for you.
and also.
