Hi all,
I've been looking out for a pre-owned M7 & came across one seller who has a 3UK M7 that's on 4.4.3.
Before committing, I wanted to ask -
Can this phone be de-branded? He gets the 3UK logo when it boots up.
Also can I flash any custom ROMs ?
Any limitations using a 3UK device? No S-Off, no updates, etc?
Thanks,
Jude

Hi you have posted in the wrong thread you should move your question here http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one/help
I have a HTC One on 3UK And you can get an unlock code from Three for free, stock 4.4.3 on 3UK has problems the signal drops all the time it's horrible you want to avoid that version at all costs but first you want to unlock the bootloader can be done at HTC dev then try and get S-OFF, then Upgrade to the latest firmware and install a rom of your choice

Thanks for your reply, how do I move to the thread you suggested?
It's also network unlocked, just that I want to unlock boot loader and achieve S-Off. I've been out of touch, hence asked for advise. Any negative getting this phone, is it different hardware wise compared to the AT&T, T-Mobile variants?
Lastly, I'm aware & have been informed by the seller about a slight pink tint that occurs, is that software or hardware?
Thanks,
Jude

No problem and to be honest i don't know how to move a post lol
Right 3UK is an international version so it's GSM only so no CDMA I don't know alot about US carriers so i can't help you there sorry but you might need to install an older rom to get S-OFF all info is in the threads http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2158151
I have the pink tint too Unfortunately it's a hardware problem but you can return to HTC for free repair, it happens when the phone gets really hot, when gaming or using while charging, Ask the seller to take a picture might not even be that bad i've only got a small area in this middle i don't really care the camera isn't that great anyway's, if you can get an M8 go for it

Nice To be honest its down to personal preference there both great devices, if you can test them both see which you like best, i prefer HTC over Samsung, Sense is great if you wanted to stay stock, the build quality is amazing on the M8 as for the battery life and alot of nice Roms for it but to the S5 touchwiz is awful laggy and bloated with unwanted features and feels cheap in the hand, I've not really used the S5 so can't say much about it, If you want my opinion I'd get the M8, but if it really come's down to it the M7 is still a great device, Development is still ongoing so alot of roms, kernals ect It will get android L when it's released mines still going on strong

I did research and came to the conclusion - the M7 is almighty. I am just scared about the Pink tint! Now that you've told me, I can de-brand, S-off and flash custom ROMs as well as get Android L, only concern is the camera, although I am not a heavy camera user. I use it only occasionally! You think it's an issue for less to moderate usage?
Thanks

I've done that, it's clear. He says it comes on occasionally when used in low light conditions. I would be meeting him in person tomorrow and checking out the phone, etc.
Anything I should keep an eye out for. Any specifics to look out for where the camera's concerned?
Cheers,

Might be upgrading from an Atrix to a Raider in the next few days.
Any known issues with the Raider?
(like the Sensation's screen dust issue, etc.)
Biggest complaints?
What about this phone makes you recommend it? (..that is if you do even recommend it lol)

Not really. The only thing I get on occasion is that my LCD's colors will randomly wash out for 5 minutes or so for no good reason. Still readable, but just washed out.
Development community is not exceptionally large and neither AOSP nor Sense 4 has been ported. Likewise, whatever carrier you're on probably has better phones on offer nowadays.
It's a fine phone, sure. But if you're in the market to get a phone now, you're much better off getting the One X( or the One XL if you need/want LTE connectivity). And of course, there is the forthcoming SGS3. (Read: I don't currently recommend this phone.)

I notice the Android development section seems pretty small, even compared to the Atrix.
As far as better phones from my carrier- there are better ones but this would be buying from someone used for a great price. I am not trying to re-new my contract with my carrier right now
It's a great device
Headphones might disconnect with any type of movements even a deep breath otherwise I'm happy with it

This device's dev section has been through its trials and tribulations. Coupled with some ham-fisted modding, I think it's not going to grow any larger than it is now.
I did not know that you were going to get the device second-hand. I was just under the presumption that you were going to walk into a store and pick up the device new, as I would not have been able to recommend this over a new A-grade offering.
In this case, it's a fine phone. Unlike my OG SGS, the phone holds a charge, has a beautiful UI, and I really didn't feel bad about not having root or S-Off. Sure, I rooted and S-Off-ed, but I didn't find it especially necessary. Even specwise, it's not far off of the current generation of devices, really only lacking due to the Snapdragon S3 (vs any of the other offerings of today) and the screen (at a "measly" qHD instead of 720p).
I haven't really had any problems besides the screen thing, nor have I had the headphone issue that come at me bro has.
My basic verdict is this: If you're a tinkerer/flashaholic, you might want to look at an SGS2 instead. If you like a phone that works right out of the box, look no further.

I should have mentioned I would not be getting it brand new in the original post.
I had a SGS2 at the same time as my Atrix, I ended up selling it (great device though, also the resolution of the qhd of the atrix was nicer).
It seems like there isnt too much to complain about this phone.
Will it be getting ICS soon? I would look forward to that.
How about sense 3.5 (or at least just the amaze 3.5 camera) I dont want to flash one of these non-official ICS because I havent seen any for any device that is very stable and wont require me flashing every new version for it to be stable.
I do like to mod the phone but if like you mention the phone performs well without the need of a custom ROM, I would just keep the official ROM on it. I would like to root for titanium backup and setcpu control though.

If you're talking Raider, I'm presuming you're either Canadian, European, or South Korean.
AFAIK, South Korea's ICS has been CANCELLED. As for Europe and Canada's, nobody has heard a peep from the carriers or HTC. Safe to say, no.
The "non-official ICS" builds you see here ARE official HTC ICS Sense 3.6 builds; they're just built for the identical Telstra Velocity or AT&T Vivid, which have the exact same internals and function interchangeably (LTE support included). Provided that you S-Off (which instantly and irrevocably voids the warranty, as you have to interact with the circuit board), it's very easy to put ICS on in fully functioning capability.
Sense 3.5 can be found in GB ROMs like HoliRaider, which only need your bootloader to be unlocked, and a recovery to be flashed.
Rooting is ezmode. Just HTCdev unlock your bootloader, flash a recovery, and use the zergrush exploit. Search the forums for anything you don't understand.

Canadian.
Thanks a bunch for all the help.
I did not know S-OFF immediately voids the warranty. I guess if I do pick it up the first thing I can do is call HTC to see what warranty is remaining on it. If the warranty is up or just about finished than it wont make a difference.
Unlocking the bootloader does not void the warranty?
edit:
It looks like Nottach's ICS can be flashed even with s-on? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1586613&highlight=s-on

S-Off itself does not. The process to do it does, as you have to remove a panel on the back that is screwed in with a screw that has a "void" sticker on it. Of course, there are ways to circumnavigate that issue, but it's still pretty much void (they could probably tell if the screw has been used before; the black paint on it comes off really easily).
Unlocking the bootloader IIRC "limits" the amount of support that HTC can offer, but I don't think it voids the warranty outright. Might be wrong, though.
No, it can't, not for a phone other than a Telstra Velocity or AT&T Vivid. The essential thing to install ICS in the first place, is the HBOOT, which has to be ICS compatible. Other regions' Holidays don't have an updated HBOOT, and it cannot be flashed to a device from elsewhere without S-Off, as a RUU must match the model's CID. What S-Off allows you to do is to overwrite the CID with the "superCID", which then permits the flashing of any region's RUU, and the flashing of a new ICS HBOOT. At that point, then you're home free to install anything.
If I was currently in the market for a new phone, I would be waiting for the SGS 3's actual release so I could go hold one in my hand to see if it's as huge as it appears. Then I'd wait a week or so and see how the dev community is looking for it. If I hated the SGS 3 (which I'm guessing I will) then I'd go for the One X. Obviously, just my opinion.
I really do like my Vivid and the community support seems to be making a positive sweep, but there are little details of owning this phone that have me miffed. Nothing directly related to the phone itself, though.
just a heads up !!
at&t's onex's bootloader unlock is not supported by htc and as of now they say that it never will !!
htc doesn't take name for this and blames at&t for keeping the bootloader locked !
so an at&t htc onex (xl) is obviously not a developer's material !!

Well, damn there you go. This is the same thing that happened with the Vivid after its release. The Vivid and the SGS2 were released "fairly" close to each other and most jumped ship from the Vivid once it was determined the BL was locked and went with the SGS 2. I guess the One X (or any other future HTC on AT&T) is most likely destined for dev abandonment from the beginning.

This is why I plan to switch to Verizon at some point. Verizon has had LTE in both my area of residence and work for a while now. AT&T? Zippo.
Just my input, I came from the inspire and bought this one outright. I wanted qHD and in my situation it will be awhile till my upgrade. Also I am still in return policy if the oneX is that much better. So far I love it (two weeks in). Screen is very nice, not sure how much better 720p will be. One very important observation is the roms I've used for the vivid so far are of very high quality, so not a lot, but quality over quantity I guess. I'm on darkraider now and I'm loving it, there's tons of customization built in. The word on the locked bootloader of the oneX has me thinking I'm gonna stick with the vivid. Also when it came to s-off I was very careful and got the sticker back on completely intact. I've never had an issue with an HTC phone so knock on wood I feel pretty safe with this one. Other than that battery life for me has been great, usually 50% at the end of the day with moderate usage, and it's very fast especially with ics, not overclocked. Overall I'm very happy with it and very sure I'm gonna keep it.

I hear ya there. I've thought about Verizon mainly because my company would probably pick up the cost for me.
Mine will be here tomorrow. Also coming from Inspire. Got it 56$ shipped from Att (plus the 36$ upgrade fee that's added to my bill). I myself will never own anything but HTC.
I have my S4 on CL trying to trade it for the One.. My question is what should i look for as like what are some issues that are known.. I think i saw yellow screen somewhere online.. anything else?? man i cant wait to come back to HTC.. I went with samsung cause i got bored witn the evo lte and hate waiting for kernel source but now im missing htc.. looks like there alot of good roms out for the one.. not so much for the sprint s4.. thats another reason why im jumping ship.. also can we flash other roms other then sprint one roms?? thanks
Make sure the screen looks alright and that there are as few gaps as possible around the edges of the phone. Make sure the camera seems to work fine and doesn't have the colored noise problem.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317507
Listen to the speakers with beats on and off to be sure they're loud with beats off and clear with beats on. Try to find a lightly used one since the battery is basically impossible to replace, you don't want a ****ty one that's been burned through a bit.
If it's 1.29 firmware, some intl roms can be flashed but not many. If it's 1.31 firmware, no international roms will work. It is possible to S-OFF 1.31 and downgrade to 1.29 if need be.
Make sure the low light camera works and there isn't a lot of (most have at least some. Only a few have none.) blue or pink noise in dark photos.
Check for dead pixels.
Make sure the power button is easy to press.
Make sure the camera lens isn't cracked.
Make sure the screen isn't raised too much on any side.
Make sure the gaps around the bezel aren't too big.
Make sure the ambient light sensor works.
Make sure the proximity sensor works.
Make sure the camera has decent infinite focus.
Make sure the whites aren't yellow.
Make sure the mic isn't crap.
I don't recommend an HTC or a Samsung. Both have terrible quality.
Make sure it is NOT running an AOSP/CM/AOKP rom. There have been serious issues with these roms no one has addressed and many people neglect to see. They have a tendency to buy out the CPU. Make sure it is not over clocked and behaves appropriately with CPU clock.
Just be aware you can't use data and voice at the same time on 3G. That was a biggie for me. I highly recommend the HTC EVO LTE.
you should be looking for my number so you can trade me phones
You might want to 're-think this. There are data issues that are not related to towers or anything else but the phone.there's the issue of the SIM card that gets fixed by tape. Right now my phone doesn't text pictures to anyone. It's really too bad cause aside from the data connection or lack of it, it's a pretty good phone. I have been thinking about finding a trade or just sell it and go back to my old phone

I knew that I was just talking about 3G usage. Not everyone is in a LTE prime spot like you. I live in one of the wealthiest counties in NJ and 3G sucks around here let alone have LTE. Funny my original EVO 4G is doing better than these new phones though. Sprint needs to get their crap together seriously. I pay them good money for crappy service.

Nope? sprint s4 the bootloader comes unclocked and there no need for s-off things are so much easier.. yea i already posted in that thread.. i dont understand really
I have been hooked on the way the HTC One looks and functions. I use to have Samsung Galaxy Nexus until I switched over to ios and have been eyeing this device for a while. Its already Q4 and I've heard rumors of the M8 next year. I've heard great reviews about this phone but now that my contract is done, an upgrade is due. I was wondering if its worth upgrading to the M7 now?
I mean do we really need anything more than a quad-core processor? Most of the apps don't even use that much & 2gb ram sounds great.
I'm just worried about future updates and falling behind on the devices since I'm getting it late. I have a problem when it comes to devices and this is my main crush.
Do you have any concerns about the future of this device? Would it be worth buying it now in November?
Shed some light on me! I can pick up the phone tomorrow if its still a yes 32 gb for $75 upgrade is a deal

Imo yes, you should go for it. This is the best android device I ever owned. Htc one will receive official 4.4 update so im not worried about future of updates. When HTC will no more support this device, there will be plenty of custom roms to bring those updates to us.

Yeah you are right but imo never get a new model at launch, they always have issue with hardware or build quality. I learned that lesson from my HTC one X I bought last year at day 1. Never again lol. so if you want to wait for the M8, I say wait a couple month after launch, that is something to consider imo.

Great thanks for your feedback. I have been exploring the forums for the device and things seem to be pretty good besides the camera tint issue. I love taking photos when I get the chance but Its not a complete deal breaker since the quality is still pretty good even with a 4mp.
I just want to confirm there isn't any lag because i pulled out my Samsung Galaxy Nexus to play with for a few days and I could not enjoy it at all.
I think i'll pick up this phone tomorrow ! now I have to decide either stealth black or metallic blue :good:
nice threads, I'm hooked up with One too, plan to buy soon, but should i wait M8 spec leak?
If true that M8 use snapdragon 800, then I'll buy M7.
I never buy a new model at launch, because I always check the XDA threads, looking for the developers, I love flashin' new ROM every day like my Sensation, until now, the dev's still make a new ROM.
What I'm getting worried is purple tint issue that One have it. I use android from the first till now with HTC Sense and now using the LG G2, I feel something is missing. That's why I want to replace G2 with HTC Devices.

no lag at all for me. I wasn't affected by the camera purp tint issue, maybe because I didn't bought an early device, idk. Also they nurfed boom sound a little bit after 1.28 bcause they had to many blown speakers to repair under warranty. so if you hear boom sound in store, keep in mind it will be less powerful after updating your phone. not an issue for me, its still loud enough with both facing speakers.

Imo don't wait for the snap 800. Believe me, 1.7 Ghz quad is already more than enough for all apps and games and I feel it will be powerful enough for at least 2-3 years to run everything you'll trow at it. Its like the megapixel war, at some point you don't notice any big upgrade in photo quality. imo it same for cpu, it will not make a big difference in everyday usage between snap 600 or 800 except maybe better or even worse battery consumption for higher freq. My One x died like 2 months ago and was powerful enough with its tegra 3.
When the M8 will be released it will probably cost between 600-700$ contract free. At this moment you can easily find a brand new unlocked M7 for under 500$ and spent that extra money for accessories or just keep it in your pocket. well that is my opinion

I believe the difference between snapdragon 600 & 800 not really big, and i agree with you, snapdragon 600 should be more that enough
nah... that's why i always look the XDA developer thread before I buy the phone, it's make me feel save for 1-2 year ahead which HTC software update not really good.
In my country, the HTC ONE cost around $700 just off about $60 after released. But the HTC One Dual Sim now release cost $760 and also HTC One Mini cost $570... hope next moth their price will going down thanks you once again to press my doubt to buy ONE.

more expensive than the original cost and no blue or red HTC ONE
today I decide to buy HTC One, but after looking 2 malls, there no one counter that sell HTC ONE, they sell the HTC ONE DUAL SIM GSM/CDMA no LTE version.
I'm confuse about the developers later, it's still support? I search that HTC ONE Dual Sim (M7_U maybe?) can flash the rom from HTC One M7_UL. Should i buy the dual sim or searching the origin HTC ONE?

Dual sim HTC One is a M7_d not a M7_U and I'm sure because I own a M7_U and this is not dual sim. Sure you can flash a M7_UL rom in a M7_U phone (as I did with mine) but it wont enable lte.

Imo, search for a M7_UL first. If you dont really care about LTE you can pick a M7_U and install M7_UL stock or costum rom later.

I see you decided to get the One then
It was definitely a good choice as the future of this phone is looking good, to be honest.
Before I got the One, I was a bit worried about future support as HTC haven't exactly had a great track record in the past and a lot of their previous phones have had some major issues. It was mainly the sleek that caught my attention and when I finally used one (on the day of release in the UK) my mind was made up.
The One was truly a "do or die" situation for HTC because if this phone hadn't sold well, it would have pretty much finished them off. Luckily for them, however, the phone is great and has been a brilliant seller. They've also done brilliantly with updates so far as have stuck to their word of releasing 4.4 when they said they would. That's why you don't have to worry about only getting the phone now as it will carry on getting better for quite a while yet

This is what I was also worried about when I got my One. I got it the day after release in the UK and figured I would have some issues with it, due to it being the very first build.
Luckily though I've had no issues whatsoever. The only defects I've got is a couple of dead pixels (which I don't notice most of the time anyway) and a slight lift on the top right corner of the phone. As those defects are really minor, and in no way cause for me to return the phone, I've not been bothered by them. The One is way too good for me to be put off by such minor blemishes

no it will not enable LTE as the M7_U use MDM8215 Dual-carrier HSPA+ modem and M7_UL MDM9215 Multi-Mode LTE modem
the main benefit of converting to M7_UL is faster ota update. I was stock on 4.1.2 with my M7_U
Sorry to dig out an old topic.
Planning to buy this for my sister who isn't a power user. Plus relatively small hands as I'll be wrapping it up with a Otterbox case. So it boils down to the fact that is it still worth buying for $200 less?
Thanks
To make a long story short, I've destroyed my HTC One XL that I bought for AT&T and I still have 5 months until I am eligible for upgrade. Out of desperation I purchased a factory unlocked HTC One (M7) via Amazon and it was apparently through a third party market place seller.
The phone's packaging, images etc., is completely in Spanish, listed as made in China, running the IMEI(on the box) through an info database it lists the model as the 801e, primary reporting body is BABT and it appears to be valid.
My questions are as follows:
1.) Assuming this is the 801e and M7_U model and not a US/English region phone based on the language clues, what problems will I have running this thing in the US on the AT&T and/or other carrier networks? Obviously there will be no LTE, but will it even work/activate at all once I put my AT&T Sim in? I'm assuming I can change the language. I am in the US in case that wasn't obvious already.
2.) What issues may I have further down the line regarding software/firmware updates etc.
Basically, I have a short time window to return this thing. Since I am in dire need of a phone and am already out a ton of cash trying to fix the one I have so I can't really afford to keep playing around with things. More than likely I'll have to pay a restocking fee for it even though it wasn't opened and who knows how long for the refund to go through.
So any advice? I guess I'm a bit of a rookie...

I appreciate the quick reply. Will the language/region of the phone cause me to run in to any barriers? I'm assuming I can change the language under the preferences.

Fair enough. Thanks again. I guess my real concern was whether or not the IMEI would register/work with my carrier here in the US. I've owned several unlocked phones over the years, but this is the first time I ever received one where it was in a completely different language/region thus the cause for my concern.
Well I bit the bullet and opened it and am currently using it. So far so good, well despite that it's only 3G. To further feed my morbid curiousity regarding my rampant paranoia, any surefire ways to determine if it is a fake? So far screenshot images are 1080x1920, camera is fluuid and image sizes are 2688x1520, both work and are quite loud, phone feels heavy but I have nothing to compare it to. Can't really tell if case is plastic or aluminum I guess I'll go have to check one in a store for that. Am I missing anything?

Nope, everything's good. You did check it through the database, and 801e is the right model no, and just for the heck of it, check your camera, at least you'll know if you're gonna get the pink tint or no. Go to /sys/android_camera and open the sensor file as text. Show me what you get

Yeah I was a little put off by that as well. Not sure exactly what I'm looking for but if I cover the lens with my hand it's just a black screen. So I suppose it doesn't suffer from that affliction. I haven't snapped many photos yet though but all in due time I suppose.
Thanks for all the info!
Hello all! My name is Terence, and I've been dealing with Android devices and rooting for years now, so the first things I always look at when I'm searching for new devices are the Dev community, and the AOSP scene. Right the the device I have is the LG G2, and while its an amazing device, flashing ROMs (or hell, just owning the device in general) is a lot like playing Russian Roulette with the display. What I mean by that is, there is a known problem with this phone where permanent black lines would appear on the right side of the device, with no real explanation so far. At first, people thought it was because of flashing certain ROMs, or the phone overheating. Then people started vetted screen damage being just on stock. And I am one of those people with screen damage. So I started thinking, I can either get this fixed for $130, or search for a new device. I've found a good condition HTC One M7 for $150. My question(s) to you is, should I do it? Is it worth it just to buy this particular device? Are there any crazy issues such as my screen damage that pops up? I know the One isn't quite as good as the LG G2 on paper, but I'm not really a power user like that. I just love me some AOSP ROMs, and there's work being done on Lollipop, which is also a huge plus. Thanks for your time and answers!

Very interesting. Whatever the case may be, I'm sure its better than the screen going completely AWOL on random just because it feels like it one day -_- I think I'm going to go for it, though. Yes, it has lower specs than my G2, but there's something oddly attractive about the One that's drawing me to it. And it has a good development scene, and you guys all seem civilized, compared to the G2 forums.... -______-

The camera issue is only there when taking picture in low light conditions. It still take good picture in normal lighting condition. Personally, I don't really care because I always use my dslr cam. Still a great phone, I would still buy it today.
Yeah, I'm not really big on the camera. For what its worth, the pictures I've taken so far on the G2 have been ****. Probably because I'm on AOSP and AOSP cameras are usually always **** compared to stock. My Optimus G takes much better pictures.
I've been doing some reading, and it seems like the Sprint version of the M7 is a little shafted on development compared to the rest of the variants No GPE ROM I can convert to, I see, which is something I was really excited for

Yeah I would steer clear of Sprint and Verizon variants if your looking for plenty of choice from a development point of view.
You'll definitely want an International, Dev Edition or GPE HTC One any M7_ul basically.
But yeah I would totally recommend the M7. I love mine. The purple camera can be a problem. I had mine repaired under warranty because it did get quite bad. I was only without my phone for 5 working days and it's been fine since and the repair quality was amazing, I honestly couldn't tell the phone had been opened up. And I scrutinized it before sending it in.
Apart from that it's been a fantastic device, easily the best I've ever owned. It looks great and is very comfortable to use. Always snappy and responsive and dose everything I ask of it.
I was a little bummed when the M8 came out because I still had 12 months left on my contract with the M7. But my friend has an M8 and to be honest I don't feel like I'm missing out on a whole lot. Apart from the obvious hardware improvements it doesn't really feel a whole lot better than my M7

Well it could be worse, at least it's not Verizon They don't even allow bootloader unlocking with HTC dev.
But you should be sure to flash only Sprint compatible software roms and recoveries for other Variants will soft brick it. The Sprint has a different partition layout. But you should find everything you need here.
