Hi
i have xperia z c6602 with stock 4.4.4 rooted ROM (10.5.1.A.0.283)
now i've heard about dual recovery (PhilZTouch N CWM) and i'm seeing it strange idea because i see that just one recovery can do the job !
so, i just want to know what are the advantages/disadvantages of dual recovery
if it's safe and good to deal with only one recovery, which one to install
thanks in advance.
cheers...
The dual recovery is the only choice if you're on a locked bootloader. Just use the recovery you prefer and don't worry about there being another one installed as well.

okay, i have an unlocked bootloader and i just want to work with only one recovery
which one to deal with ?
I don't understand the problem. If you don't want to use the other recovery, then don't. It literally does not matter at all if there's another one installed. Just don't boot into the one you don't want to use. Simple.
Use this if you just want a stock kernel with recovery and no other modifications.
Sent from my C6603 using Tapatalk
okay, if it really does not matter at all, for which reason it is present and installed on the device.
why the developper managed to deal with this idea ?
have any user woke up one day and he said "okay today i'm gonna work with the second recovery today ?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the recovery is used to just make backups and install some mods with just some few additional options
Some people prefer a different recovery to other people, so they have a choice. Why does it matter to you? Don't use the second recovery. The end.
Wow. Some people worry about the strangest things.

nothing was made with coincidence
every thing has a reason
the developper was managed to made a dual recovery just for a small reason that you don't know, because of that you said that i can just work with one of the recoveries and let the other one
in my opinion, i think that the reason of making dual recoveries is that some custom roms are not compatible with some recoveries (specially cwm)
so when we have dual recoveries, we can flash any custom rom using it's compatible recovery
that's the idea that i have
now as i'm on stock rom and i just need a recovery to do backups and wipes (maybe installing some mods later)
so i just need one single recovery
so which one is good, stable (like 4ext recovery on my old htc sensation)
Well, you obviously know better than everyone else here, so why don't you just try them out for yourself.
I'm done wasting my time. Bye!

I flashed many ROMs in this forum. All done with *dual* recovery. No problems at all. Except the ROM bugs.
The developer made it like that so you can choose any of the recoveries. They all will work for any thing.
2 better than 1! If you need more info ask @[NUT] he is the developer of the dual recovery...

Some people like TWRP, some like Philz CWM touch, almost no-one likes vanilla CWM. I don't think anyone likes cm-simple recovery. I just included the most popular 2 recoveries to cater for the majority of users' preferences.

FAQ:Q:Is this recovery a touch version of CWM?
No, it is not a touch version of CWM, but it has touch and some other nice stuff.
Q:I have this hboot or that hboot, will this work for me?
Yes, this recovery supports all the hboots available for this device.
Q:Can i flash this or that ROM/MOD/Kernel with this recovery?
Yes, if it doesn't work, it's probably not for our device and the mounting points are not compatible.
Q:Is this better than CWM?
This is a matter of taste, but you could say it's better because it has more features.
Q:From where can i download themes for it?
Check the web if you find themes for the resolution [highlight]480x800[/highlight], if not, recommend them here and maybe we will port them
Q:Why does the pictures above show a different version than the thread title?
The pictures are generic and will be updated only when major changes occur to the recovery.
Awesome job as I used on all my phones. Love ability to flash more than one zip at a time and all wipe function in one place, combo wipes etc. Very good and highly recommended. What have you added that this doesn't already do? Great work guys really is

There is another easy alternative, you unlock bootloader >> install goo manager from Google Play (market), and in goo manager hit settings and install openScriptRecovery, something should appear, hit next, next, ok, ok, apply, apply and there you are

No, CWM-made backups are not compatible with TWRP and TWRP-made backups are not compatible with CWM.
also what i did think backup files is also a diffrent format in twrp than cwm and remeber guys backup can be sized down like if you put something in a zip file only thing is it take a little bit longer but i tested and a normal that filled 700 mb was only arround 350 mb big when using that

I also tested this , as i had multiple backups from CWM 5/6 and TWRP, and stock CWM 6 are not compatible with CWM 5 and others, but CWM 5 are compatible with CWM 6.
Hope this helps
Well that's not a big problem. I'm going to restore previous backups with CWM and then backup again with TWRP. It takes a bit longer, as I have to switch through different recoveries, but then I will have all my backups ported

Can I install safestrap and install custom ROMs?
If yes does the ROM have to use the same kernel that is on my phone already?
I have done standard recovery ROMs on my prior phones but have zero experience with locked boot loaders and custom ROMs. I was under the impression that with root I can modify system files but can't change the kernel???? Or am I way off?
Any guidance would be appreciated.

That's what I was thinking I just wanted to make sure before bricking my phone.
So I can install safestrap and then install.... say the joker ROM ...... or any other ROM built on the stock one but my mileage may vary.
And if I'm reading about safestrap right it doesn't overwrite stock it merely boots along side it.... kind of like a dual boot PC but using the same kernel? And if I want to OTA I can because stock is still intact?
Oh, and I was first to donate on the bounty

You're stuck. Your bootloader is probably unable to be unlocked. You can only go for stock-based roms. Roms like CyanogenMod or AOKP needs an unlocked bootloader.

Yes, you can use stock (XPERIA T) FTF's - just skip the baseband portion before you being flashing so you keep your AT&T baseband.
Then root with whatever method is needed
Then install CWM recovery
Then yes - you can flash stock-based (XPERIA T!) roms. You can usually tell the rom is stock/Locked Bootloader/LBL-friendly in the title of the thread, or in the first few posts of the thread. Also, I don't know how important this is - but also look to see what stock kernel the rom is based on (LT30p 141? 145? 489?). Stock kernel zips can be flashed via CWM recovery (I know that my Bell LT30a works fine with LT30p kernels, but I wonder if the AT&T LT30at will also be fine with it?). My favourite ROMS have been XperimenT and T-Hybrid so far... Good luck
And always keep your stock FTF handy! Because if any flashing you do doesn't work, you can always quickly fall back on a fresh whole FTF flash that is appropriate for your phone. Then the fun starts all over
Kernel
I did flash the kernel 145 from the T idk what really went wrong but my phone stuck on the sony logo
also i use XperimenT rom and flash it using CWM it install in about 7 secs which doesnt seems right . any suggestions ?

after trying diffrent method and days of trouble shooting with my friend
LaZiODROID there is a solution, using cwm(v9) would not format your system and data files thats the reason why the rom hangs at the sony logo because no system files were installed if u check the log, using cwm(v8) for the T,TL is the most stable and will install the rom and kernel with ease. Remeber to always wipe/factory reset then format system and in advance settings wipe dalvik before u install any rom.

As far as I know, no one has really been dippin into JB to Dev a ROM or two. I believe there is someone in the CWM/TWRP thread saying that they are going to attempt to Dev a Stock ROM for the time being. kind of like a Hybrid JB/KK style ROM. not sure if he'll have time to do so from what he was postin. Kernels I dont think anyone has actually touched.

To format system of second ROM you must delete second ROM.
For update ROM, just wipe cache, dalvik, and flash ROM and gapps and eventually an kernel of your choice.
If you really want to format it and keep your data you could use titanium backup for your apps or make data only backup in twrp. Delete ROM, install fresh ROM via add ROM menu, and restore via titanium backup or twrp data restore .
BTW this is Q&A thread for multirom now.

You have to flash miui as primary rom (in primary twrp).. But first.....
Also download hodor kernel, after installing miui dont reboot system and flash hodor on top of it,this way you will still have multirom twrp,
Dont freak out the aroma installer of miui is in chineze just hit the next button on the right until you can select your model,
Beware, BE ON WIFI cause miu wil ask alot of data and dont verify your sim, because it wil send a sms to china so you have to pay for that,
Btw first boot will defenitly bootloop, dont be afraid i have that aswel, some scripts arent compatible i guess so everytime you boot in a secondary rom and back in primary(miui ) it will fail the first boot attempt and de second atempt will succeed,
Good luck and dont forget.....be on wifi and have a lappie nearby just in case or a nandroid or other roms to flash on phone

Thanks a lot @demon2112!!
for detailed steps.. Now my Yuga has MiUi as primary and Carbon as sec!! Thanks a lot again... :good:
---------- Post added at 01:27 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:07 AM ----------
For those who wanna have Stock ROM in MultiROM.. you need to first decide-that you want stock ROM as Primary or Seconday.
I had CM has primary and Carbon as sec.. Wanted to have MiUi also has secondary. However I chose it to be as primary. Remember I have not removed my secondary ROM while performing below actions.
1. If as Primary, Then you can follow below instructions. This is what I did based on @demon2112's instructions:
- Boot into recovery, flash kernel for Stock ROMs - I flashed Hodor Kernel for my Yuga
- Factory Reset wipe from recovery
- Started off with frest Stock ROM installation (here I chose MiUi V5)
- After ROM Flash, flashed Hodor Kernel again
- Restart System > Then Boot into MiUi > complete setup > Reboot to recovery again
- Now flashed, MultiROM V28 (for stick only from oliver) which has MultiROM bootloader and flashes Modified TWRP aswell.
- Reboot, There I see my MultiROM back again with MiUi as primary and Carbon as secondary.
2. If you want Stock ROM as secondary over CM or Carbon as primary. You need to spend lot of time. Which involves
- Stock ROM as primary first, take a TWRP backup
- Then flash CM or Carbon which supports MultiBoot (here you will loose Stock primary - but having backup)
- Now in MultiROM TWRP, add backedup ROM as secondary.
There is jediRAMA who got success in this method, link to post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=55187246&postcount=177
Thanks a lot @Olivier @demon2112 and @JediRAMA

Was planning to try that.. After work may be.. But yes I do have the same feeling it might fail as the Carbon ROM which am using is not support for multi boot.. Any way will give a try and update on how it goes..
No dont do it...the bugs isnt carbon related... Its stock related because is uses the stock boot.img and that gives problems when trying to gey it on secondary
I tryed already
Just set bootmanager to autoboot the secondary rom and your golden,or dont autoboot and choose every reboot, that is what i do
I had pa beta 4 on secondary when i installed a custom kernel on it all my roms booted into my primary rom.what i did.
Twrp-advanced-multiboot-list rom-select rom- flash zip and rebooted dis i juat forgot something or did i had just badluck
I have been using hodor kernel with criskelo's 7.2 (4.4.4 _ .283) rom ... according to op hodor kernel comes with twrp 2.8 . Bt when I try to enter into the recover it always brings me to philz cwm recovery. I have tried different key combination during boot bt always cwm recovery.I want to know why and how can I use twrp.i have tried to flash twrp via fastboot bt nothing happens..always boots up with philz recovery.
Flash the recovery using the app. If that still doesn't work, pull the file "boot.txt" while you are in recovery:
Code:
adb pull boot.txt
and paste its content here or upload it.
