wheres knox? - T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I can see that my note 4 has knox on it by my device settings but there's no locked interface app like on my note 3. So I went to the market to download the "myknox" app and it says my brand new note 4 is uncompatible with the app. So I can't find a way to be able to use knox or the knox market?

I was wondering the same thing but didn't have the balls to ask lol

Edit due to not being on same page about the knox thingy..

I was told that even if you trip Knox that you could warranty exchange the device with the carrier because they don't check for Knox

Deleted. Not the knox they are talking about.

galaxyuser88 said:
You could try but i was told by tmo rep that cause most phones are bought using jump plan, that they are now checking for knox . So you might get lucky, if yoy find one that does not check.

How long ago was this? MY friend that works at a corporate store said they don't check for it at all, just that it powers on, water damage and cracked screen. Said they then send it to the company who deals with the insurance claims, who refurbish and then sell the phone. He said it is possible they check, but doubted it. Granted it was 3 months ago, but I did a traded in my Note 3 with Knox tripped for a Jump upgrade and never heard anything about it. Still had a custom recovery as well.

You can also go to settings and then about device it will show Knox info there.

Yup as my other post states. Since deleting post is not an option.

Jump they need the phone to be working and no damage. Believe me 99% of the reps at the store don't know anything. Just just want to make sale that's all.

Going to kick this over to the Q&A forums so if anyone searches for Knox locations it's in the proper place :good:

Your the boss. Iam just responding to questions here anyway. ?

I traded my knox tripped note 3 in to jump to the note 4 and I had no problems at all. They didn't check the knox counter at all, they just wanted to make the sale. My note 3 had a locked built in knox interface and a knox market but my note 4 doesn't have any of these features. It does have a private mode which I guess is replacing the knox locke d interface from the note 3

KNOX is something that they use for warranty and when in private mode. It just lets the it guys know that the security has been compromised. If you have no intention of linking your phone to your job/business then there is no reason to worry about.
You have to go into download mode to see if you tripped knox. You can also download from the playstore called phono info samsung. It will also show you knox and all info on software and stuff.

I don't think they are talking about the knox counter. I think they are referring to how to setup knox personal.

Knox Counter, Knox Personal (My Knox), and Knox for enterprise are three different systems. Knox counter keeps track of whether you rooted your phone or not. Knox Personal is a service currently available on the Samsung Galaxy S5 (more phones coming soon) that will allow you to create an encrypted container that you can install personal apps in to. The apps in that container cannot be accessed from outside nor can the apps access anything outside of it as well. The service requires a Microsoft Exchange account and it is free. Knox for Enterprise is also container based but offers a lot more features for enterprise and it will cost money.
I believe the OP was asking about My Knox or Knox enterprise, NOT Knox counter.

My apologies for not reading the thread correctly. I will edit my previous posts.
Thank you.

[Q] Developer Edition Verizon Questions

Hi All,
I understand the differences between the Moto X sold by VZW and the Dev Edition in that the latter has an unlockable bootloader and more storage space but I have a few more in-depth questions about the device. I've called and asked Moto, but sadly I trust you guys to give me more accurate answers.
1. Will Android updated come directly from Motorola or will they have to pass through Big Red first?
2. Will VZW bloatware be on the DevEd?
3. Ay other interesting differences between the devices?
I don't really have any interest in rooting my device (tried to get some custom firmware on my PSP100 back in the day and bricked it), and want to (feel forced to) buy a phone on full retail to keep my UL data with promo pricing. Would this be my best choice? Thanks in advance for the help.
1. Will Android updated come directly from Motorola or will they have to pass through Big Red first?
I think future Android OS updates will more than likely be made available OTA by Verizon, unfortunately, despite it being a developer device. I've not heard nor read anything otherwise.
2. Will VZW bloatware be on the DevEd?
Not sure about this question, but I wouldn't be surprised if I saw bloatware.
3. Ay other interesting differences between the devices?
Other than the obvious unlockable bootloader, color scheme, higher storage capacity, there's nothing else that I know of to differentiate the developer edition from the regular consumer edition.

Can you confirm the absence (or presence, hopefully not) of Verizon bloat? If I'm paying 650 for a phone I don't have any interest in tinkering with, I'd like to not have to worry about useless apps sucking up the system resources.
Also, on a slightly unrelated note, I've noticed that the Verizon demo units are a little sluggish compared to the ATT demos. I'm assuming it's either a fluke or the demo app VZW loaded on it. Can any Verizon users confirm the phone is just as fast as the others?
just root and then freeze or delete the bloatware with titanium backup

I don't think we'll know for sure if Verizon apps come pre-installed until someone actually receives their dev edition unit and lets us know. I personally wouldn't have wanted to deal with bloatware either, but since this model in particular does have an unlockable bootloader, rooting and removing these apps shouldn't be too much of a problem.

You don't even have to do that. Just go into Apps and disable it. It disappears from the app drawer.

That's great news. Maybe I won't need to root this device after all once getting...

Should I root with Jump or wait for non-knox counter root?

I'm hearing two different things. Some are saying T-mobile doesn't care about rooting but some say if you have jump and you root, they wont fix anything. What do you guys think? I want to root but I'm afraid if anything happens to the phone, it won't be covered under Jump warranty.,
It has been discuss that Knox doesn't affect warranty.
Is completely up to you but it might take a looooooooong time before someone comes out with root that doesn't trigger Knox.
You got jump you're good go for it.

Who is to say a non trip method will appear.
NOTE 4
I have not heard of anyone having issues with root or custom roms voiding warranty. I think a lot of people brick phones by flashing international roms by mistake and they still take them. Water damage or physical damage seem to be the warranty void issues. But ultimately it's each persons choice , I make no claims lol.

Did it go up? Hope not. This is why I don't really bother with Tmo insurance. A few months ago my note 3 front sensors stopped working and I only had to pay $20 to get a replacement.

Any chance of root being patched on non-exploding Note 7 2.0?

I'm waiting for the new batch of Notes to arrive and got me wondering if Samsung might or could do something to stop root. It doesn't seem like they could or really have the time to worry about it with all the problems currently. Also, with a bit of a bad stigma, do you think they will sweeten any deals to get people to buy these former bombs. Personally I love that Samsung is taking a hit and getting knocked down a peg. I still love these phone but all of the sudden the 1% rooting community has a little bigger effect on sales.
That tiny routing community... against the fees they can make from Samsung Pay. Think about it.

There are August and September Android security patches that the Note 7 didn't get. Anyone short of a Samsung project engineer that thinks they can answer that question is probably full of it.
I think a lot would have to change to make the kernel leak not work. And yes , I don't think Samsung will care about us tweakers still but I still like war ching Samsung squirm just a little.
I think the real question is will Samsung be updating this phone at all or will it become the unwanted step child

No I haven't took the update. I'll let somebody else be brave and try that one. Hopefully jovy puts out an updated rom with the new firmware.
The new update is not rootable and you won't be able to go back to PGC if you take the update. If you really want root i advise you to NOT let the rep power on/ setup your phone.....it will likely grab the update and you'll be doomed. Best practice: Do not place sim in device OR connect to wifi Until you have root.

A little extreme lol... The update is 400mb so on LTE that will still take a bit to download, which you have the option to pause for quite a while (this is what I did while I rooted it). You just need to pay attention to the phone.

Trade in program

Does anyone know if a tripped Knox will invalidate a phone for the trade in program? I have looked through the terms and the only thing that worries me is the term "blacklisted". I found no mention of rooted or knox tripped, but if they don't accept then I am out a good back up phone.

So the knox is considered a software lock? Because I am reading that as a locking device like encryted drives. The knox to me is not a lock. This is exactly why I am asking. I don't want to get only $25 for it. I will keep it for $25.
Bob
Knox is a lock. If you trigger it you can't use pay and other functions. You need to send a phone that can be used on a network and nothing is locked out

No software lock refers to password protection etc....they want to be able to access the phone for testing.
Well send in a phone with Knox triggered and wait until they disapprove it. Why would they take it when you obvious modify the programming. It's no different when they void your warranty with Knox triggered.

It depends on what the Note7 trade-in offer is really meant to accomplish. Allowing a SGS5 as a trade-in for $425 credit pretty much says the program is designed to be liberal and seems like a real make-good for former Note7 owners. What's a SGS5 worth? $100? That's how much the one I bought on Amazon to send to Samsung as a trade cost me.
I think they'll be more scrutinous of newer phones that really are resell-able. The last time they had a trade-in program there was no rhyme nor reason behind what they accepted and the value they applied. We'll see if after what Note7 owners went through we'll be treated any differently.
Trying to second guess Samsung/Digital River is futile. They seem to make the rules up as they go along.
so I read promo wrong when I ordered first note 8. thought note 4 was eligible. called today to see if I could send an iPhone 5s (was gonna buy one from Walmart) and lady said previous note 7owners were eligible for an exception. she noted account, gave me a ticket #, and said to send note 4. so I had her do the same for my wife's note 8 order and I'll send our other note 4 and sell the v20 I had planned to trade.

Change SM-N960F build to work in the US

Hi, I purchased an international equinox Note 9 on eBay and I'm using with my T-Mobile sim, however, some apps like Samsung pay and Samsung gear do not work and Samsung pay only shows in Thai language (I think) with no way to change it to English. Is there another firmware I can flash without rooting it that would fix this so it can work better here in the US? Thanks

Unfortunately Samsung Pay is dependent on the device's origin. You won't be able to use Samsung Pay in the US with your N960F as Samsung Pay on that device requires a EU Credit Card to be registered. Installing the US OS onto it will possibly brick it.

Yes do not flash Snapdragon firmwares onto Exynos devices (or vice versa), ever...Odin likely won't let you do it anyways, but if it did you would definitely have a brick. You can change to U.S. CSC on Exynos only if rooted, but that would trip Knox and kill Samsung Pay forever anyways...

Same, purchased a Note 9 Exynos from ebay (Asian version) and was trying to figure out how to make Samsung Pay work, tried registering my card through that built in Asian Samsung Pay app and it worked, did you try adding the card? Mine worked and only miss out on the rewards because I do get points with every purchase but they would work in Asia.
I didn't really try because it was all in another language and I couldn't find a way to change it to English. Do you get wifi calling? I also have a gear S3 watch that I was planning to use for Samsung pay and rewards but for some reason the app is not able to find it, I guess it's expecting to find the asian version.

I don't feel like rooting my phone, and since I only make phone calls when it need be (10 a month tops) non of those features are must for me. If you were to root you'd trip Knox and give up Pay, not sure if it can be undone.

Yeah same here, accumulated points through Samsung Pay would only be good to use in the country the phone was purchased. I can live with that though.
