Every once and a while my apps that are installed on my sd card will mess up, usually after a reboot. By mess up I mean that the icon on the launcher will be the generic android logo and it will be listed on the sd card with a name that looks like com.rovio.angrybirds.
Uninstalling the apps and reinstalling them fixes the problem temporarily, but the apps will still disappear eventually plus I lose all my saved data.
I've seen similar topics that talk about launcher pro causing the problem, but this is different: the installation of the apps is actually messed up.
I'm using a Nexus One with stock 2.2.1 build FRG83D. Thanks for any help you can offer.
When you reboot, give it an extra 30 seconds before you unlock and start using the phone. This will give the phone time to read your card...
Might wanna try a faster card, also.

I tried resetting the phone four or five times and waiting about a minute each time and the apps still didn't show up correctly.
I'm using the stock card, is it really that slow?
Your SD card might be at fault. Reformatting the SD card might help.
I tried doing that a few days ago when the same problem ruined almost every app on my phone. I did a factory reset at the same time and reinstalled every app that I had, just to be sure.
Just installed launcher pro on my mom's cappy, now the phone reboots whenever media scanning is initialized. Any help? I'm not near a computer right now

that's odd man.. I use launcher pro and I've never had that happen. Have you tried uninstalling it and installing it again?

I can't get to it, the phone shuts down too quick. I think it might be something with the android system itself, but I haven't done anything to it

does she have a micro sd, or an externel sd card.. try taking that out and powering it up.. see if it will get past the media scan?
..also, can you get to recovery? might be able to wipe data from there and reboot??
No micro sd card, she's still under warranty so we'll take it back tomorrow, but it'll already be our second return (first bricked while updating software). I have an epic 4g and nothing like this has ever happened before

Looks like your sd card is beginning to wear out. Better backup as much as possible and replace it right away. I once had 2 kingston cards with similar issues. Formatting them seems to fix it for a short period of time only. Then eventually the problem returns.
Did you try erasing the card through the phone itself - that is putting it back again after un-mounting from your PC?

i would like to know if Ia m the only one, experiencing constant restarts on the phone, almost every single day and more than once.
hmm sounds like you have some sort of software issue, reflash the software and see if you get this issue again. I've had the phone 2 weeks now and had no weird restarts or anomalies, check my sig it shows what firmware on.

Your sig is what I have really surprised, o well might do a reflash or something, but the phone has also shut off a couple of times, not sure why, but when I unplug the phone from the charger usually.

Yeah I will let you know, besides that, this phone is great, build quality, UI, battery, display, and even the speakers are louder than the G2 and yes I compared them. This is by far the best android experience I had even if it restarted, it is still the best I owned

Well I thought I was the only one, but it seems in android central people are reporting random shutdowns, please let me know if this is a widespread issue, because they also said they dont have an SD card to wipe, so it seems it's not the card causing the problem, but certaintly the same thing is happening to me.
I having these issues also, i have left a message on sony facebook page. This is starting to piss me off for a $1000 phone it is not good enough. It is also corrupting my files on the phone
Wow that is definitely not acceptable, Im leaning to switch back to the HTC One, but still debating, depends to see how many are having this issue.
if anybody knows let me know if this a known issue or if is affecting only a small portion of the phones thanks

HERE YOU GO MY FRND
All users who are facing this problem... i have solved it.. the prob is with android 4.0+ onwards... do not pop in mem cards from other fone directly...
take your memory card out and copy the entire card data on hard drive and then format the card in pc with default settings. then switchoff the fone and put the card in it... it will take smtime to initialize the card at first run. have patience and let it create the suitable folders... the data u looking forward to copy is pics, vids and music files... rest stuff is there on ur fone and it will stop rebooting. DO NOT FORMAT THE CARD FROM WITHIN THE FONE... it has been seen that with android 4.0+ they do not format flawlessly....enjoy and ur rebooting problem will b over...
I have the same problem. My Z1 restarts several times a day. 10 times just today.
I don't have a sd card in the phone, and I never had any sd card. So that can't be my problem.
I don't see any pattern in when it restarts. I can be browsing the web, checking facebook, playing games. Or when the phone just lays on the table. Charging or not charging.
One thing I have seen is that right before it restart the cell signal is gone and there is a sim card icon in the notification bar.
I'm switching cell provider in 2 days, so I will see if it gets any better with a new sim card.

well that doesnt seem a solution for me, I tried what he said and didnt fix my problem the shutdowns happen quite often, I might have to look at a stable device, I may look at the incoming nexus 5, I do like the Timescape UI, but restarting a couple of times a day I cannot agree to that, I had it happen when a call comes in, so it is a problem, because people think I hang up on them.
I got my new sim card and the phone haven't restarted once!
So it looks like my problem is solved.
The difference between my old and new provider is that my old (OneCall in Norway) is renting net from Telenor and the phone is roaming most of the time.
My new provider (Netcom) has its on cell phone net.
If you have the same problem you could try with a new sim card, or use the phone without a sim card for a day.
I've this problem too. I don't have an sd card in my phone and I didn't move any old files from another phone. I've been getting a random reboots per day in the last 3 days. I love this phone but I'm not sure if I need to return it. It is unacceptable.
Got my Note 3 just this past Thursday, finally finished everything on it this morning, and decided to give it a restart. It went in to a boot loop that no matter what I did I couldn't get it out of. I pulled the battery, sd card, and pen, and tried once more. As with each time I got to the home screen, but this time quickly went into task manager and cleared memory to try and kill all apps in case one was the problem.
My question is if there is a way to try and find out if it was an app, or the SD card, or something else. I know errors are stored somewhere, but for all I know I've never had a reason to try and access it.
As always, thanks for any help

If you can go i to play store and install a logcat program and take a log & post it back here so guys can see what yur device is doing. If you cant get that far you may try factory reset and reinstall apps & settings one at a time to catch the bug

Well not rooted, and found out logcat apps won't work without some trickery in Jellybean and up.
But, I got brave even without my home setup nearby so I can fix things (at the BBQ currently) I tried to rule some things out, and figured out it is something with the SD card. I can boot normally with it out, and insert it after boot. I'm hoping it's just the card, but I will hold off till tonight when I'm home to try and fix it.
