[Q] Help, Possibly rooted and wanted to Unroot? - Xperia Z3 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
Just bought Z3 compact of ebay and when i tried to do a factory reset. It came up with this message "root access possibly lost. fix this cannot be undone. yes or no?" I clicked "No" and worked fine.
I am fairly new to this rooting kernel android thing but I think my phone is rooted. Now I dont know what this root thing does and I dont want it so I want it to be stock again.
Is it rooted and how do I get it back to stock if possible? I have attached screenshot for your reference. Any help would be appreciated thanks.

It is rooted.
Question for you: Did the seller mention the bootloader being unlocked (only way to root a Z3 right now). If not, file a not as described case against them. The bootloader unlock kills the DRM keys which lowers the camera quality (particularly at night) and cancels a few nice features advertised. There is no way to get the keys back.
I sold a Z3 compact with it fully advertised that the bootloader was unlocked and the seller got ebay to refund the amount before the phone was even received: you most certainly will have them on your side.
If somehow, it is acceptable to you to have paid the price you paid for a phone without all the Z3 Compact features (for instance, if you bought the phone for $420 and/or don't plan to take night photos and use miracast), then check for superuser or SuperSU in your apps and, once found, go to settings and select full unroot.

It will unroot, no way to get all the features back as when the bootloader is unlocked some DRM's are removed that can not be replaced.

That's why I don't offer PayPal as a payment option anymore. There's a thousand ways to get screwed as a seller even if you did nothing wrong.

master reset

Can I do a master reset? I'm rooted & using CM w/kspec.
Considering sending my phone in for replacement/repair. Not sure if I can tolerate the off-color screen & cycling auto-brightness. Thought it wasn't a big deal and I'd wait for an update - but after reading other forums I'm not sure if or when there ever will be an update.
The guy from Google suggested I try to reset the phone. I know that wont fix anything but thought I'd give it a try...
What do y'all think? Should I just put up with the slight off color screen & hope for a software fix? (That's what the HTC guy said to do). Or should I try to exchange it.
I'm rooted I know but HTC is still good about replacing rooted phones right? I should just instal the stock rom right before shipping?
Srry for the multiple questions
..........
When you just rooted it is possible to revert via factory reset. If you flashed anything else then your bootloader is unlocked and there is no known method to revert that. warrenty is void. maybe HTC won't notice, but if they do, you would have to pay at least the shipping charges.
if you have already flashed another rom, do you have amon_ra's recovery image? there is a wipe -> factory reset option. there is another one in the settings menu somewhere (on the "normal" os), but i don't know what it really wipes and what not.
to bad you guys live in the US. i could even break all warrenty seals and get a repair (at least for products I bought here)
HTC has been quite good about honoring the warranty on hardware defects regardless of unlock/root.
thanks
i dont know what to do. the phone looks fine really now but that is because im using it in a bright room. its only when on low brightness or in a dark room that it looks really purpley...
guess i will return it... because there is also the auto brightness issue as well... or do i wait for the supposed software update??

[Q] Display dead: Vertical coloured lines appear

I just got the lollipop update and was going through the new features when all of a sudden the display went blank and then some coloured lines started to appear vertically on the screen. It was connected to the charger when this happened.
Anyone has any idea what caused this? :crying:
Is this a hardware or a software issue? Is it anywhere related to the lollipop update? If yes then how do I go back to kitkat when my screen doesn't show anything
Its not even one month and this happens. Should I return it to flipkart (the online store where I bought it from) and get a new piece or should I go to Motorola service center who charge Rs.6000(approx $100) for a new display.
(this is my first post so please forgive me if it's not according to the rules or if there are any mistakes)
If you haven't unlocked your bootloader you are covered my Motorola Warranty..They will replace your display free of charge...
BTW if you are still within the flipkart Returns limit contact them and have them give you a new phone..

I haven't unlocked the bootloader so yeah I hope motorola service is good here and they dont take weeks to get it done.
So you think its a hardware issue right?

The only way i know to check if it is a hardware issue is to flash a different ROM and see if the display works... I'm not sure about your phone but in a laptop this can happen due to an incompatible display driver or if the GPU is shot....And you can't revert to kitkat without rooting and voiding your warranty.... Better play safe and get the phone looked at by Motorola...

Couple quick questions: TWRP's memory footprint and edge program

I have the 32g turbo and like having lots of music on my phone. I want to load TWRP but am concerned about how much space it takes up. Can anybody clue me in to that info?
Also, I bought the phone on the edge program, so if I turn it in, will it be a problem with Verizon that the bootloader is unlocked? Has anyone had any experience with this?

TWRP lives in a separate partition than where your user data is kept, so it will have 0 impact on the amount of storage space on your phone.
I don't have any first hand experience with the edge program, but I can almost guarantee you that you'll have to pay the full price for the phone if you try to turn it in. Unlocking the bootloader is a permanent modification. Even if you re-lock it, the flash counter will still indicate that the phone has been unlocked at some point.
Thanks for the reply. According to my contract, once 75% is paid off, I can trade it in for another phone. I'm just not sure if looking for an unlocked bootloader is one of the things they consider during trade in.

What does it say that they look for?
Did a little digging, found this on their site :
The device must be in good working condition and must meet the following requirements or it will be rejected and returned to you:
Device has a functioning battery
Device can power on and off
Device has an intact, functioning LCD screen and glass with no cracks or breaks
Device and charging port must be intact (not broken or charging port missing)
Device and connecting ports must be free of visible corrosion and water damage
If your previous device is an AppleĀ® device with iOS 7 or later, you must disable Find My iPhone prior to sending it back
Looks like I might be in the clear. I always just assumed they reflashed any device that was traded in or turned in for warranty anyways. Seems like the easiest route instead of trying to go through each phone to clear out memory to put back on the shelf. I have in the past turned in phones for warranty that were rooted and unlocked. Never been an issue.

About Sony Warranty

Hey guys,
I have to sent my Z3C to repair on warranty, because of the microSD/microUSB flip problem.
During the time with my phone, I rooted it, installed TWRP from How-to: root, keep and backup DRM keys, etc. [KitKat/Lollipops/Marshmallow/etc.] and then, I installed SLiMM rom.
Now, I'm without root, without TWRP, closed bootloader (never changed that) and stock rom (Thank You Pokemon Go -.-').
I'm safe to call Sony for assistance?
Thanks
Yeah, you're fine. As long as the issue is clearly hardware related, there's no real concern about them denying the claim for software changes. Just don't be surprised if they factory reset your device before mailing it back to you.

I contacted them through chat, and they said I'll have to pay to change the microsd port because I changed the software...
Because of that I'm concerned...

If you restored to factory state before taking it to the service then I believe there is no way for them to know you actually did some software changes to the device
Anyone heard about any kind of track done by Sony of what has done to the phones?

HAHAHAHAHA! That's ridiculous!
First of all, never tell Sony customer support that you've done anything to the phone software. They will be more than happy to void your warranty to avoid losing money on the repair. Secondly, do not use any RMA number they provided to you (because it probably has a note attached to it in Sony's system indicating that the repair is not warrantied). Finally, chat/call Sony support, tell them the SD card isn't working. Tell them you tried all the BS techniques to fix it (reboot, factory reset, sony PC companion, etc), and then get a new RMA number that will get the device fixed under warranty.
Send in phone, wait a week, get repaired phone, enjoy!

First first of all, I had a insight to ask to not keep any information of any kind during the chat session... Only after that, I told I rooted, changed the firmware, insisted that the software and hardware is working perfectly. They said I lose the warranty anyway... Later, I contacted them to erase all information they had about me. So I don't have an RMA ticket yet. But thanks for the advise.
Hmmm one more thing.... Because of my poor english, I wasn't clear enough.. The microSD is working fine. The problem is the microsd cover. The small rubber is loose and the cover wont close correctly. I cleaned everything but wont solve. It may be a "small" problem, but I lose the water resistance....

Now I'm with 6.0.1 stock blessed with a lot of apps and stuff that I don't like T-T but I'll contact them...
I contacted them again. Since they have a repair center here, I just have to go there and leave my Z3C for repairs.
I will appreciate if they give my a brand new cellphone (I'm dreaming to much? hehehe). A friend of mine received a Z3+, but his case was more serious. Anyway... I'll update this thread when I have an update on the situation.
Until then, thanks everyone.

Is there a way to safely restore warranty after bootloader unlocking?

Hi!
I am an owner of moto g5s plus and while I enjoy the phone I think there are a lot of things the phone could be improved by software-wise, and while I'd love to unlock it's bootloader I am not quite sure if it's possible to restore it's warranty after unlocking it. I read a lot of different opinions. Some say that after restoring the phone the ADB says our phone doesn't have voided warranty, but some say that the phone has a fuse which breaks after unlocking the phone and some even say that I lose my warranty as soon as I redeem the unlocking code for my phone (which I already did so I guess I am in a pretty bad spot already ).
Thank you for your answers!
Correct that the phone has a fuse sort of thing like samsung. Once you unlock the bootloader you trigger a unlocked message and also internally trigger that fuse thing. Once unlocked via the code moto sends you, you can unlock and lock at will, but internally moto will know if it's been unlocked or not, and then has the option to deny warranty repair of any kind. Will they? not always, can they? by all means they can, and have at times. I haven't had to send in any phones from them, but I have had at least 3 variants of moto phones over time, and have unocked each and every one. I have also re-locked the bootloader which then takes off the bootloader nag warning, but as i said internally moto will still be able to tell.
I have also flashed bootup screens successfully so as you would never know it was rooted without know what to look for.
So in short
-yes you can unlock it, but it triggers a stamp/fuse that moto will know.
-You can lock and un-lock at will after you unlock the bootloader via the motorola site and code.
In my case I gave my daughter my moto phone and she does not need root so I formatted, re-set the phone up to factory, and then re-locked the bootloader, and no one was even the wiser. It was like a factory phone. The only ones who would know are motorola themselves, aside from that I have had phones in for repair at the phone places and they didn't even suspect the phone was rooted.

When you unlock, you have to register with moto and get an unlock code. They know, all they have to do is check a database. You lose warranty, how strictly moto enforces that is unknown - although I have seen an example where a fee was charged for replacing a piece of defective hardware after relocking and restoring stock firmware.

Yep, that is correct.
I've had people I know that rooted and sent it in and moto didn't say a thing about it.
I kinda think some of these companies are getting more lenient on root with the phones. People like samsung and apple are pretty hard core but I think some of the others are not as harsh as to what they are doing these days. I know that I've brought my phone in, and even told them over the phone it was rooted and they didn't even blink an eye and still offered support for stuff, in fact I asked a tech if he could possibly reset the phone via his machine (I forget what phone it was) but he had no problems doing it, and didn't ask any questions either. This was a phone that I remember I couldn't just re-flash stock firmware or anything. It's been awhile back, but it just seems like companies are getting less and less aggressive on root, at least to me anyways.
It is however ultimately up to the company to cover the phone or to refuse coverage, and charge a fee, it's a 50/50 toss up, so if you do decide to do it, realise the end result, that said company "can" refuse service. If your ok with that, there aren't any adverse affects to rooting as far as the phone functionality goes, everything functions just the same as when it was not rooted, but the benefits are you have choices to use things and apps that only work when rooted ie: titanium backup is one that comes to mind.
