In the process of negotiating an upgrade deal. Currently on Voda.
Just wanted to know the difference between getting the phone from Vodafone or P4U.
Does the branding make much difference ??
branded phones seem to get updates later as they have to get branding added and in some cases don't get some update at all due to vodafone/networks not signing the ok on versions
Huge difference as stated above, update always comes late on branded phones, or never come.
But unbranded phone gets updates directly from HTC not vodafone so you are guaranteed to have them as soon as they are released.
Also, you have no bloatware on unbranded phones, and normally unbranded phones are unlocked on any network meaning when you sell the phone, it worthes more. But there are exceptions, my galaxy s3 lte is unbranded but locked to orange.
Anyway, if p4u's price is acceptable, better go with them. I sacrificed my 40% off discount with Orange and went upgrade with p4u even paying a bit more, but I never regretted.
Anyone actually got a branded phone?

I can't comment on voda but I've just recieved a branded device from EE and Tbh there is no bloat or pre installed crapps in fact it looks completely the way HTC intended. I'm guessing different networks will have different amounts of input but more are straying away from loading the handsets with crap for update purposes. If your rooted it don't matter anyway.

I read reports on the Vodafone forum of their customers receiving phones that have Vodafone on the bootscreen, definitely branded and I would definitely avoid that if you can P4U will be unbranded and will of course price match anyway.

Can confirm the Vodafone version has a Vodafone boot and shutdown screen. They haven't put any bloatware on it but it's definitely branded
Is there any branding on the phone itself or just software?
I have the "One" branded to Three. As far as i can see there are branded start and shutdown and two branded apps "Three Music" and "Three Games". They seem to have also installed the Amazon and Ebay apps.. I think given a chance i'll be installed the HTC standard build as soon as one is available... neither of the above apps are worth anything to me..

Sorry to clarify, the hardware is identical and has no Vodafone markings.
The phones software is Vodafone branded and comes with both their CID and usual bloat.
Just to throw this out there.
When I had a unbranded S3 Vodafone users got their official OTA updates before me.
Pretty sure you could use Kies to get it the same time if you really wanted.
With Samsung you would never be left hanging for a JB compatible HBOOT if you wanted it.

It's got no Vodafone branding on the actual handset, and no pre-installed apps, only the Voda logo when staring up and shutting down

Hey,
I have a question regarding new Htc One from Orange.
In my country - Slovakia, its impossible to get rhis phone. Nobody has it, except mentioned operator.
Are phones from Orange blocked ? Do they have custom series number.
I have read/heard rumours that phnes from operator have custom serie number and they tend to get sw updates much later than phones from market.
Is this true ?
Sorry, if this was answered before, but i coudlnt find answer anywhere.
Thanks

Yes, branded phone receive OTA and ETA update much later then nobrand phone.
For example, stock no brand phone have 1.29.401.12, O2 branded phone have 1.29.209.xx and at today no OTA updates...
However, they don't have a custom serial number, but a custom CID
Thanks, thats what i wanted to hear (read).
Actually didnt want to hear :-\

Hi. Sorry about my English...
In the past I've send an HTC one x to service because of a fault camera too. The phone was SIM unlocked with code. Was from att. The phone was repaired and send it back to me. But the phone was received with different imei and locked again to att. So I had to unlock again but was difficult to find the code because was a recent code. Even in att told me that they didn't have registered that imei. Finally get the code after looking various sites but was difficult. In some sites told me that my phone was refurbished....don't know..May be they replaced the motherboard..
Now I have an HTC one with purple camera an want to send it to warranty..
My question is that if have received your phone with the same imei. And specially for those who have unlocked phone... Do you received your Phone relocked again? I'm worry about thath because the law in US that makes difficult to unlock the phones without carrier complaints....
Thanks a lot...

Color me confused... I ordered the D5803 (not from Sony, from a reputable 3rd party retailer) to use on AT&T. The box it came in looks legit with zero T-Mobile markings or anything. However, the phone has a T-Mobile splash screen that shows briefly after the Sony splash screen, and it has T-Mobile "bloat" (My t-Mobile, Norton Security w/ Tmobile logo, Tmo Media Center, etc.). It works fine on AT&T, but I was really hoping for one with no branding for the direct connection to Sony for updates... and I'm concerned that won't happen here. Is it possible this is some T-mobile variant from another country that'll still get updates from Sony?
Of course after I post the question I think I've figured it out... it appears it's the German T-Mobile variant - which is still the D5803. The question, then, is how do updates work over there in Germany... will T-mobile have to approve it or will it come straight from Sony? If straight from sony, then there really isn't a problem with using this device, for me anyway.
You probably won't get many updates. I owned multiple branded devices (Hutchinson drei). The provider has to modify every single update before you get it - they don't do that very often, e.g. I got exactly 2 updates on my good old LG 4X HD.
You could try flashing the UK stock rom with Flashtool. Your phone should keep working properly, just without the T-mobile bloat. At least that's how I always dealt with branded Android devices.

Hey...I know you.. Hahaha
You could always manually change the firmware to another variant
Hi, I have the same thing going on. Did you do anything to resolve this?

I returned it and bought from another source.
I actually resolved the issue with the following post and picking a non-branded file.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/general/list-stock-firmwares-d5803-d5833-t2906706
I have the same problem for my z3c I bought 2 days ago from amazon.com. I'm still waiting for a response from the seller and wish it could be updated to L 5.0 without problems and without this ugly logo of t-mobile and bloatwares..
My nephew said he found the phone on the road underneath an overpass. Screen digitizer looks damaged, no battery, no battery back cover and all banged up (see pics). He gave it to me to either fix or trash. I would like to get the phone looking new, working and give it back to my nephew running on AT&T's network.
Questions:
1. All the parts I need are compatible with most Note 4's correct? Will these work here and here?
2. Being a T-Mo device, the bootloader should be unlocked correct?
3. If the device is locked (not purchased by cash) can the unlock code be unnecessary by rooting? If not, what are my options since I did not purchase this device?
4. AT&T Roms are not compatible on T-Mo devices running on AT&T network correct? So will T-Mo Rom's work on N910T running on AT&T network?
5. Can I Root, flash Rom and modem?
Greatly appreciate your input, thanks.
Tmobile phone will work fine on AT&T. No need to flash anything special just pic a ROM and set up am APN.

I just purchased the T-Mobile variant and I am going to unlock it via http://www.cellunlocker.net. When checking out at cellunlocker.net they displayed a message:
"Please be advised in order to unlock your Samsung Note 4, you MUST activate the phone with the original carrier or SIM issued within your designated location. This must occur before you attempt to unlock and activate the phone with a foreign sim card. The Note 4 has a region lock feature seperate to sim unlocking and if unlocked before activating to its original carrier or continent the phone will be region-locked and must be unlocked directly from Samsung. For more information, please refer to the warning sticker found on the packaging that your phone came in."
Do I just need to get a T-Mobile sim and activate it once? Then boot it up with my ATT sim and enter in the unlock code? Or can I disregard this message?

You can disregard the statement it only applies to FOREIGN sim cards.

You may have a problem if device is reported stolen or lost and imei is blacklisted by tmobile.

For activating the phone, I can use any imei correct? However, for unlocking it, I'd I have to, that could be the problem right?
If blacklisted network will refuse to connect to that phone even with active Sim card

1) not sure... most of the main parts should be the same.. i.e screen. There may be slight variations with many parts.. such as charging ports.
2)Bootloader is unlocked to my knowledge however Im not certain.
3) Rooting and unlocking are 2 seperate things. The phone will be carrier locked. I have a tmobile Note 4 phone that I run on AT&T. I paid to unlock it on simunlocker. Ive never rooted this phone yet
4)False to my knowledge. There should be no issue at all here
5)YOU cant change the modem to a modem from a different carrier. and there is absolutely no reason to do so. YOu should be able to flash an ATT rom on it if you'd like.
Unfortunately... It is true what others have said. If the phone was not paid for in full by the OG owner( on Tmobiles plan where you pay for the phone month to month)... then it will most likely be black listed at some point. SO you might be able to activate it but 4 months down the road it could suddenly stop working.

This is regardless of paying for an unlock correct? Any way of finding out if the IMEI is blacklisted?

Tmobile has an IMEI checker. Also swappa.com where you can sell/buy used phones has one. I checked mine before using cellunlocker and it worked out perfectly.

Yep, blacklisted.. Now what are my options, if any?
If it's blacklisted, nothing short of changing the IMEI # with a JTAG device can save it.
Considering it's physical condition, trash it. I would.
Looks baaaad. Ouch

After $200 in parts that I received yesterday, she looks beautiful now . I much rather work on it until its fully operational instead of trashing it.
None the less, still blacklisted and unable to access engineering mode. Any pointers?
Update: Running rooted 5.0.1 with TWRP recovery and have successfully unlocked via imei-unlocker.com. Made a call to a business number, worked fine.
Leads be to believe down the road a few months service may be cut off due to blacklist? I would still like to explore other alternatives to avoid service being possible cut off...
