EU Variant? - Verizon Motorola Droid Turbo Q&A, Help & Troublesh

Spoke to someone from the UK Motorola live chat, who seemed to confirm that an EU version of the Droid Turbo/Moto Maxx is/was in the works - I've attached a screenshot of the conversation.
Was going to get a Nexus 6, but now I think I'll hold out a bit longer...

Think it WAS in the works. Just had a small convo over twitter with Motorola and they said they dont currently have any plans for an international variant of droid turbo in Asia

Droid Turbo Developer Edition

Has anyone reached out to Motorola to see if there will be a developer edition of the Turbo. I know Motorola confirmed no developer for motox gen 2. But i haven't heard any confirmations on the turbo! Anyone have any feedback ?
Somewhere else in the forum i thought i read that there were no plans for any dev edition, at least in the near future.

I just contacted them.
The representative said that they don't have the information on when the Droid Turbo Developer Edition will be released but he assures me that "that is the phone that is next online to be released on our end."
I think "online" was meant to be "in line."
Thoughts?

If it does happen I could see them pulling a 2nd Gen moto thing. It will be a 'pure' edition and won't be compatible for Verizon
I'm thinking it will be a Pure Edition thing too, which I would love to have since I'm on T Mobile.
I wonder why moto can't/won't release a dev edition ROM for current and provide a way to securely flash it; they could even charge for it and I would be fine with it. All a dev edition changes is the status of the bootloader, correct? There isn't anything physically different between the two devices right?

Was this from Verizon or Motorola? If it was Verizon, I'd put about a 1% confidence rating; if Motorola I'd put a 35% confidence rating.
That being said: I'd sell my Turbo in a heartbeat for a developer version.
Same here I would be surprised if it actually comes out. If so it looks like I would be passing mine out for a good price to pick up the developer edition.

It was from Motorola. The Droid Maxx developer edition was released one month after the release of the Droid Maxx, so it could be soon...
Has anyone else contacted Motorola?

I did and they said they had no information if there was or was not going to be a Droid Turbo Developer Edition available.
Turbo, developer edition, what a dream phone. A rootable device running pure Android. Please Motorola, make it real.

I really want a turbo, but was planning on waiting a few months so i can grab one used. I'd probably sell my girlfriend for a developer edition though.
I'm running a 2013 X now, but i'm switching back to a verizon reseller instead of t-mobile, and i just managed to grab a MAXX dev edition used, which should keep me happy for a few months.
Already have a rootable editon, its. Moto maxx.

This is why we need a maxx sub forum.
No we do not have a rootable edition. Droid Turbo is the name of the forum, and the Maxx is useless on Verizon, where nearly all Turbo users are with them.
I honestly dont think there will be a developer edition for the turbo on verizon. Heck I really dont believe the nexus will come to verizon just from talking to some reps. They said they nexus to work on the network never said anything about getting it to be bought through verizon. Just stating my opinion. Those of you waiting to get the nexus 6 should be better off going through google or motorola.
So still no developer / pure edition for this beast? I'd pick that up immediately.
EDIT: upon further research, I wouldn't. No reliable data/voice while driving on highways (as the phone does sometimes switch to 3g). What a shame.
Ive unlocked the developer edition of my turbo by pressing the Build number in the about phone settings five times.

XT1097 Lollipop update/news/info

I bought an off contrct unclojed xt1097 from telus. Their marketing calls in pure edition but we know that the xt1095 is the real pure one. I contacted telus about the lollipop update and they said that they were waiting on Motorola and then contacted Motorola through the help chat on our phones and the Moto rep asked me to check with my carrier as they are the ones releasing. So frustrating how these people know nothing.
Has anyone with an xt1097 got any info or news ro share? Anyone receive a soak test?
Thanks for sharing!
I too have the xt1097 and havent received anything. The update for this version is not out yet, but according to mobile syrup, motorola is working with the canadian carriers to push it as soon as possible.

At the moment yes, but it will coming to wind or another carrier soon. Also lollipop is being pushed to the moto G on several networks and the 1st gen moto X on rogers. Hence working with Canadian carriers to bring lollipop to moto devices and not just to the moto X 2014 on Telus.
I do hope it is soon as I don't want to mess around too much with the phone just yet. There isn't really anything bloated about the Telus version, it just has some wifi #TELUSDIRECT and such in it.
Nexus 5 updates on Telus?
Does anyone know how long after kit kat was released did telus nexus 5 owners see their updates?
Lol comment fail. Anyways how quickly did n5 owners get 4.4.2 over the original 4.4.x firmware?
I too would like to know when we would receive lollipop.
Us xt1096 owners are still on 4.4.4 as well
I also have a 1097 Brazilian Retail Moto X and no updates here yet.
As it is a retail version I wonder what would be the trouble to release the update along with those pure editions. The Brazilian retail is the closest thing to a pure edition that is not being sold exclusively in US.
Hope they release it soon.
I know what you mean. It seems to be the exactly the same as the pure edition with absolutely no carrier bloat even bought from my carrier (TELUS). It would be very surprising if they sit on a working lollipop build for the xt1095 without also quickly updating the xt1097. As far as I know and I could be wrong is they only need a modified modem for the xt1097. How long can that take?

I don't think it'll take too long for us (I mean Brazilian xt1097 retail) to get it. Changes seem to be minimal and brazil is pretty high with motorola. My bet is we start getting it by next week. Hang on dude, Im with you on that!
Just chatted with a Motorola rep and she said it should be coming in a few weeks.

Our turn?
Xt1095, then xt1096. Next xt1097? One can hope!
Can't be too long now, Verizon released it yesterday.....
Wind Mobile is now selling the Moto X. Haven't been able to confirm the model number or exact software version yet.
Looks like the same one as telus, almost the same ad..... looks like most of the southern part of the world is getting Lollipop, maybe it is too cold for it to travel here.....

From a hardware standpoint, it is the same exact device. Sold in markets outside the US. Not to be confused with Droid Maxx from last year.

Except for the radios. No CDMA on the Maxx, right?
Sent from my XT1254
Someone will come along and correct me if I'm wrong but there are two variants, one with a CDMA radio (XT1224) sold on Verizon exclusively as the Droid Turbo and a GSM variant (XT1225) the Moto Maxx. The latter variant comes in two different enabled radio configurations, the one being sold currently in Brazil and Mexico and one that went through the FCC which is on sale in PR only for the moment.

As you requested: Verizon CDMA/LTE is XT1254
No one is going to do any real development on this device at this point so no need to waste two forums. There really isn't anything meaningful to talk about on XDA regarding the Turbo and the moto maxx doesn't have a big enough following. This has to be the most disappointing phone of 2014 from a development standout for users. no?
lol Thanks. I'm Maxx and already have everything I need with root. I would not have purchased the Turbo because of the bootloader. Been caught before with one that never unlocked and that was a lesson learned.

It looks like they are slower with the updates after the sale to lenovo. Jaoco, is there an optimized stock based custom rom from latin american forums for the xt1225 ?

it is quite normal to ask for android 5.1 update for the moto maxx when moto x 2014 already got the 5.1 in the same region. it is not rocket science.
delete
To the people complaining about the update speed: Maxx (Xt1225) already have Lollipop, and though it wasn't immediatelly after its release, it was way ahead of a lot of devices. The problem with turbo is Verizon, not Motorola. I'm just reforcing this because if Verizon is delaying the update then there is nothing Motorola can do, so complainig to them is useless, but people dont seem to understand that. And I personally think Motorola is better with Lenovo than Google, first because Google wanted to keep Motorola a company apart from then and second because they were only interested in Motorola's patents, and Lenovo seems to be interested in using Motorola to take a share on the mobile market. I would be pissed too if my carrier didn't provide me the latest updates in a reasonable time (specially for a flagship), but instead of complaining to the wrong culprit, I would just change carriers (and I did sometimes here in Brazil). But I'm hoping you guys get this update soon.

My guess is 5.1 won't come to the Moto Maxx/Moto Turbo XT1225 until it comes to the XT1254 Droid Turbo.
Of the Quark phones, XT1225 already has Lollipop 5.0.2 while the XT1254 still has 4.4.4. Don't think Motorola will update the XT1225 yet again, while the Droid Turbo has not received any OS updates since being released in October 2014 -- whether it's Motorola's fault or not (cough - Verizon).
Which means the U.S. Moto Maxx XT1250 also won't receive Lollipop until it's FCC ID twin, the XT1254 receives Lollipop. It also is stuck on 4.4.4, as far as I know.
I think the OTA update for all three Quarks -- XT1225, XT1254, XT1250 will come about the same time -- when Verizon approves the 5.1 update for the Droid Turbo. Yeah, I know Verizon doesn't control the fate of phones not on their network. I'm not saying they do. But Motorola is owned by Lenovo, an Asian company where "saving face", not embarrassing business partners is ingrained in the corporate culture. If the other Quarks receive 5.1, and the Droid Turbo does not, that makes Verizon look worse than they already do. I just feel Motorola won't do that.
Hopefully, I'm wrong with that guess and 5.1 comes next week!

You are right in everything you said, but about "an Asian company where "saving face", not embarrassing business partners is ingrained in the corporate culture", you have to take in mind that customers also have a big play here, so my bet is that they won't care so much on Verizon, but instead would push the update to other markets whether Verizon is ready or not.
All this delays on the updates for the Turbo are directly related to Verizon, so I don't think a whole company stop it update process and mechanics just because a carrier.
The other point here, is that Verizon is not any carrier, is the carrier that each year release the Droid line and they have had a really close relation to Verizon for many years, so I guess the coin is in the air: bet for customers or bet for Verizon?.

Because they undoubtedly have an agreement with Verizon that they'll wait for Verizon to approve any updates before they push them. Breaking that agreement would be a great way to get Verizon to not let any new Motorola phones on their network.

debating the Droid Turbo (and dropping LG G3)

anybody have any thoughts? I've currently got the LG G3 and am sick of the continually overheating while running GPS. Makes it tough to get places when the phone keeps shutting down. Been looking around and am debating the turbo due to the turbo charging speed. would ya do it??
That's a tough choice. My gf has a g3 and I have a turbo. The g3 is amazing. Better camera in low light, rootable and unlocked bootloader and a ton of development already done on it whereas the turbo, there is a lot less. But my turbo lasts way longer, doesn't overheat at all. It's really an amazing device. If you can handle the little bit extra weight and it being thicker to an extent, then grab the Turbo for sure.
Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk
I love my Turbo, but I've never seen a G3. The turbo charging works great. Also, jcase and beaups are actively working on a bootloader unlock for the Turbo. See here: https://twitter.com/therootninja. Also also, why would you get a G3 when the G4 is out?
EDIT: Never mind. I misread.
Or go for the unlocked near-equivalent of the Turbo: the Moto Maxx XT1225 (or the unlocked CDMA version - can't remember if it's XT1254 or XT1250 - depending on who you have for a carrier).

XT1250 = unlocked CDMA version (Moto Maxx)
XT1254 = Verizon Droid Turbo
And the only thing that makes it "near equivalent" and not "equivalent" is the name. They are electrically identical.
G3 is nowhere near Droid Turbo, it would be a nice upgrade over G3 but Droid Turbo 2 is about to be announced, so i would wait for dt2 announcement instead of buying droid turbo unless it is cheap.

Yeah, same FCC ID = same device, same bands.
Someone I'm chatting with on Hangouts just got an XT1250 and flashed the Droid Turbo 5.1 and radio over it to basically turn it into an bootloader unlocked Droid Turbo....
I was able to get it at Sprocket! (Well, waiting until Monday until they have the Black version.) Ironically, the thing there were most concerned about was me disputing the charge on my CC. However, after some pleading, they agreed!
