You kidding right?... How do you install custom rom if you don't know how to wipe one.
OK, procedure is, enter recovery wipe system, data, cache and dalvik cache and then install desired rom, gapps and kernel if you want( for ex. if you install cm11 from demetris you don't need to flash other kernel because built in kernel is great) and wipe cache and dalvik cache and you have new custom rom on your phone...reboot, wait until phone is fully booted (leave him alone for 5 min) and then make another reboot and you are good to go...

[Q] Quick question abt changing roms

Hi Folks,
Iam currently running KingDroid v3 on my note with franco kernel 3.0.15 and would like to install Rocket Rom v7. I have kingdroid overclocked and is running very smooth and fast execpt it reboots every now and then (very rare). I am wondering if rocket v7 can be overclocked or would I need to install franco kernal after installing it?
As far as I know I would need to do the following to install Rocket Rom v7:
1 boot into CWM rocovery
2 factory reset, clear cache, clear dalvic cache
3 reboot recovery
4 install rocket rom
5 install superuser through cwm if I loose root after install
Did I miss something? Pls let me know.
Cheers,
Farhan
anyone?
1 Boot in recovery
2 wipe cache + wipe dalvik cache ( optional u can run jbroid kernel cleaner script)
3 Flash abyssnote kernel
4 reboot back in recovery!!!!
5 full wipe (wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, wipe battery stats)
6 Flash the new rom
U should not loose root but if that happens on the first page of Rocket rom there is a file named cwm super su. Download that and flash it in recovery as you would with anyt rom and y should have root back

Once you have successfully installed RR v7, the abyss kernel will be replaced by the kernel in RR v7. If you want you can flash franco kernel. Abbys kernel is for GB rom only.

Since you are on Hydracore it is safe to wipe. But just to be sure just take a nandroid backup, by Booting in to recovery
Selecet Backup & restore--> Select Backup & do a nandroid backup Then just follow the installation procedure below
Keep both the ROM & Gapps file on your SD card
Wipe data / factory reset
Wipe Cache Partition
Go to Advanced - > Wipe Dalvik Cache
Select Install Zip from SD Card--> Select either internal card or SD card (external sd ) based on where you kept the file-->Install the zip file of the ROM
Same way Select & install the Gapps package
Go Back & wipe Cache Partion & Dalvik Cache once again
Reboot & you are Paranoid...:good:
the best advice I can just offer you is to go to the respective Paranoid Android ROM thread and post this question there. There many people there as well willing to help you. Or you can wait for someone who has PA already on their device and perhaps they can give you some nice info on how to go about installing PA on your phone.
sorry, I can't do much help on you as I'm not using JB for now.
You can flash any custom rom if you are on safe kernel, hydracore is safe and you can simply boot into cwm recovery and flash the rom zip followed by gapps.
Help i am stuck on the PA logo

Yes you need to factory reset when coming from another rom that is not aosp based, i.e stock gb/ics.

I think you need to read instructions to the point before carrying them out. I had posted you the method for installation of PA which so far as I know is the correct one coming from any non AOSP based ROM. Pls. do follow the instructions. In case you are in doubt just ask for a reconfirmation.
Also any ROM developer will have the instructions posted in the OP thread, which you should definitely follow.
As others have told you, do a full wipe coming from a non AOSP based ROM..
By the Way if your problem is solved just change the OP title to Solved..
In regards to doing a full wipe: When doing the same process a couple of weeks back, coming from a stock ICS rom to PA i read you need to do a full wipe.
google brought me to this page: http://checkrom.com/threads/full-wipe-the-correct-way.432/
do you guys consider wipe/factory reset to be sufficient or is it a good idea to do this manual format of the /system/ /data/ and /cache/ partitions as per the above guide?
I was in a bit of doubt on that one at the time, so i did it anyway to be on the safe side and it all worked fine.
Paranoid android
Hey
Someone can tell me what's the difference between the Paranoid rom from Imilka (PARANOIDANDROID 2.1 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1797698) and the Paranoid rom from Utacka (PARANOIDANDROID 2.15 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1871713)????
To be sure
OK, just to be sure I want to make everything straight... So if a have Hydracore kernel and a non-AOSP rom (for example ClassicRom V5) I can flash ParanoidAndroid? Even without AOSP rom? Just having Hydracore kernel and non-AOSP rom I can install ParanoidAndroid safely? I just have to do a Full wipe, then flash paranoid, flash Gapps, wipe cache and dalvik and reboot and thats it? Thanks in advance for the answer

Not sure about this particular case, but I'll tell you my approach is to *always* do a full wipe + format partitions and internal sdcard before flashing *any* ROM. This way I'm sure there's nothing old left (app data, config etc.). Using this approach I've been running many ROMs without most of the bugs users report (using XXLSA now), I think it's worth the time to reinstall and reconfig everything. If you don't need to keep old data and config:
1) Wipe data & cache
2) Wipe dalvik cache
3) Format /system & /preload
4) Format internal sdcard (make sure you save anything you need before)
5) Flash ROM
6) Wipe cache again
7) Wipe dalvik cache again
8) Reboot
(Not sure if 6 and 7 are needed, but I prefer to be a bit paranoid in this case.)

I think it depends on which custom rom u r currently on & which one you are gonna flash..for ex: flashing Ultimate v5 XXLSA over Alliance v1 XXLS7 may not work..

I agree with you. If you perform a full wipe before to install a new rom, the probabilities of occur in some rom's issue (like FC or just a "simple" weird lag) are low. Tested personally.
It always better/advised to perform a full wipe.
In the end, you could do a nandroid backup of your last used rom, wipe everything, install the new rom, and then try to restore the data partition only. If you get some errors or general issue, you can easily full wipe everything again, and reinstall the new rom again... at least, you tried

What does the OP states? Flashing ROMs is STILL a dangerous business.
Read the OP for the ROM you are installing

leaks always require full wipe for it to function properly.

[Q] Installing MiniCM10-4.1.0

Hi!
I don't know much about smartphones but I want to learn how to customize mine.
I'd like to install this firmware (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1836116) on my xperia X8, but I'm stuck. I've spent countless hours trying to do this, resulting each time in a brick.
So, that's it :
This firmware needs this :
Latest 2.1.1.A.0.6/2.1.1.C.0.0 SE firmware / Baseband: M76XX-TSNCJOLYM-53404015 >> OK
Unlocked bootloader >> OK
Latest version of the 2.6.32 nAa JB kernel
Okay, so I want to install this kernel, so I'm looking at this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2136211
It needs MiniCM10. I don't exactly understands this part. This requires 2.6.32 nAa JB kernel, and 2.6.32 nAa JB kernel requires this ?
I'm pretty sure I'm misunderstanding something here.
If someone can help me, that would be great !
i'm assuming you're still on stock kernel and have dl'ed the kernel and rom for minicm10. amd rom is on sdcard.
1. flash .32 jb kernel via flashtool
2. boot to recovery (cwm), full wipe, wipe dalvik, wipe cache.
3. still in cwm, format system, cache, and data.
4. flash minicm10.
5. reboot. wait for a few minutes.

In CWM recovery: wipe all (data, cache, dalvik cache), install ZIP of Gapps for 4.2x and reboot.
Wiping cache might spare you a bootloop experience. It could work fine also without wiping but wiping can't do any harm

I always do a full wipe before installing a new rom anyway
And as for Miui, it rocks! Not a day goes by without me checking for new updates
Same for me ,but with CM 10.2 :good::laugh::laugh:
