[Q] AMOLED screen burns - X 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

First of all Hi to all. This is my first post. Actually, I heard a lot about screen burns of OLED screens. I just bought a Moto X 2nd Gen its 3weeks old. If screen burns are really a matter of concern please help me how to keep my OLED of my X out of such damage. I don't want it to be damaged.. I love it's gorgeous display.
Really looking forward for some valuable suggestions.

Nexus One Screen

Hi everyone!
I have bought my nexus one used, and I would like to know if it has the amoled or the slcd screen.
Can someone help me?
Thank you.
Easiest way to find out? Start the phone in the dark. If you can see light where the screen is black, you have an SLCD. SLCD has a backlight that lights up the whole screen. AMOLED lights up each individual pixel, so a black is truly black and dark on an AMOLED screen.
Otherwise google will show up a lot of results on determining between an SLCD and AMOLED.
Thank you! I have the slcd..
But I still love my N1!
Supposedly, the SLCD version is a better screen and is better on battery with the more common uses. I have only had AMOLEDs, so I have never compared the two directly.

Yellowish screen compared to another moto x

Hi all, until yesterday I was really happy with my moto x since everything was working fine and I haven't had any problem at all with my phone running official Android 4.4 kitkat, BUT yesterday one of my coworkers bought himself a moto x just like mine and I was just explaining some things about the phone to him until at one point both phones were side by side and we opened Google.com website on the chrome browser and I noticed that my screen looked yellowish compared to his when displaying a white background like on google.com website.
The thing is that I set the brightness of both moto x to the maximum and still when both phones were side to side showing a white background my screen looked more yellow than his, the "whites" on his screen seems more bright and white than mine.
So, my question is if anyone here has the opportunity to have 2 moto x compared side by side, can you please open google.com website (or any white image) and tell me if the screen on one of the moto x looks more yellow than the screen on the other moto x?
Cause I need to know if this is maybe a common thing that can happen because not all the displays are exactly the same or if maybe my phone is faulty and I need to take it to the service.
And if you happen to have 2 moto x 's screens compared side by side with a white background, can you please be so kind to upload a picture here so I can see it?
Thanks a lot in advance for the help!

It is normal screen variation. I have two Moto X's here and one has the more yellow screen. for some stuff it looks very nice, for other stuff I prefer the less yellow one. I do find the color saturation is not as pronounced with the yellowish screen version which could be a plus. I have compared 4 phones total and only one has had the more yellow screen.
Lol. You were happy until you compared to another x. What is the big deal? Oled is like in its 3rd or 4th gen iteration and there is still a big disparity in display. If it really bothers you that much stay away from oled. Its reason like this oled prices will be artificially high.

I fail to see your point. I just got done RMA'ing two nexus 5 phones and one screen was very yellow on white screens while the other, while still warm, was whiter. So it's not just with oled screens. It's annoying to me that most screens are a lottery and it's not fair to the customer. I would be unhappy about this too

Ok, thanks for your answer! It's not that I'm unhappy with it, in fact I didn't noticed this until I compared mine with the other moto x from my coworker, and it's only noticeable with white backgrounds like I said.
I just wanted to know if my phone was actually faulty because of this or if this kind of things are normal and that on the same phone model the screen differs on the white calibration or something that makes some of them more yellowish than the others..
Since you have 2 moto x, Can you please when you have the time upload a picture of the 2 of them side by side with a white background so I can see how much do they differ?
Thanks a lot in advance!
PS: so in your opinion for some stuff you prefer the yellowing screen and for some others the whiter one? That's interesting...

There is variation in between screens. We are getting consumer grade stuff. I am willing to be the Korean and exynos models of note3 have a lot less variation and higher binned screens. My exynos note2 screen is still fantastic to this day and makes me hesitant to sell it. My note3 has some very minor flaws but it doesn't bother me. My glaxy nexus was pretty good but yellow. My sisters galaxy nexus was two toned. Brighter on top than bottom. Also was darker overall. My nexus one looked great besides the awful and I mean awful over saturation. I would consider two tone screens that are noticeable on any type of contrast being displayed or stripes or smudges that are noticeable on non display/test calibration type stuff to be defective. My note 3 is much whiter than my note2. My note2 definitely has a yellowish tinge to it but it also much brighter and the auto brightness limiter is less noticeable on note2. It is definitely a YMMV.

Screen color- dingy whites

I noticed the whites on this screen, even at full brightness, are rather dingy or at best have an excessive "warm" color to them. I noticed the same on my old X and was hoping a year later I wouldn't get the same thing but here it is. The following pic is my new X (left) next to my G2 (right), both at full brightness. Wondering if every X is like this and its something I'll have to get used to all over again or did I get a bad screen?
My understanding is that AMOLED displays are warmer to begin with. I don't have anything to compare it to, but this is what 100% brightness looks like on my PE:
Edit: it just occured to me that a screenshot may not be the way to accurately show how a display looks, but the amount of whiteness is representative of what I see looking at the screen myself.
If you don't compare it to other screens you'll never notice. If it's not white enough? Are we being a little too picky? It's amoled... Welcome to the party... Enjoy the phone, it's awesome.

Diagonal lines on screen

I just bought a Moto G 2014 and I'm noticing diagonal lines across the screen (45 degrees) especially visible on light backgrounds. Is this normal on the Moto G 2014?
hey i see the same lines, when screen is off and with the light of sun. I have a new Moto G 2014 to, like 5 days .-
This is the touch sensor grid
Digitizer touch sensor thingy. Its pretty obvious in direct sun light, nothing to worry about

I'm talking about diagonal lines visible on the screen when it's on. Not the lines you see with the screen off in sunlight those don't bother me. It probably has to do with the digitizer though.
I currently own 2 2014 moto g's. My first one was brought at launch and the screen is perfectly clear, my second one was brought a few weeks ago and the screen has diagonal lines which can be seen best at a 45 degree angle. They must be different screen manufacturers.
I'm going send back my second one for a replacement as I can't live with the diagonal lines knowing how much better my first one looks.
Can you try to click a photo of it?
I have uploaded some photos here I would call it a kind of grid effect. Again my first moto g 2014 does not have this and is clear at all angles.
That looks like the same problem I'm having. Might send my phone back as well.

i have that effect to, but i guess is normal, maybe because is gorila glass 3 ?
I do think it is normal for that particular screen. Again my other moto g 2014 doesn't have the lines so motorola must be using different screens.
well there is only one option to be sure, nobody or someone can email Motorola support Moto Care with those images and see what they replay ?
moto g with diagonal lines EXCHANGED PHONE
I just exchanged my moto g because of this problem. they had an older one which had no issue with the screen l, no such lines on the LCD, and the white didn't have an yellow tint as my previous had...
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND CHANGING THE MOTO G IF YOU HAVE THIS ISSUES...
Not sure if this counts as reviving an old thread, but I got a replacement Moto G 2nd Gen about 2 weeks ago after my 1st one had a display issue where the glass touched the bottom part of the screen too much.
The replacement that I got has the diagonal lines which are very visible, as well as the lines of pixels much more visible than before. The screen looks much more purple rather than black when turned off too? I got the 1st one in November for reference, reckon Motorola are now using a different type of screen that causes this? Because I have no idea. I also noticed that the back panel of the case was much more flimsy and appears to have a different version number on it.
Reckon I should return this one or am I just going to get the same problem

Its not a 'problem' as such, afaik all the newer moto g's have the same thing. Mine does. It's just the type of screen thats used on the phone.

I have recently returned my Moto G 2014 that has this problem for a full refund and got the new 4G version. This problem is now fixed and the screen has returned to the 'old' style where it is black with no purple tint, no diagonal lines and has better quality.
Posting here just so everyone knows if they are curious.

Moto X 2014 Grainy-yellow screen?

Hello everyone, 1 week ago i bought my Moto X 2014 (XT1092) and I noticed something like grain on the screen, most noticeable when scrolling down a page or on white backgrounds (but you can still see it in other colors, except for black). Looks like there's this 'grain' under the screen, but obviously there isn't. I saw that this can be caused from PenTile Matrix Amoled screen, but most of people that have this phone don't see it. I also found the screen too much yellow on white backgrounds, and if I tilt the phone it minimizes the problem... I don't know what to do.
Most of the people who have reported this problem in the past, were able to exchange it with the warranty. If it is bothering you, and you are still under warranty, I would suggest that you look into that.

someone could send a photo of the problem?
Today I received my replacement and it suffers from the same problem. One thing I noticed is that out of the box the phone was already on, on the language selection page.
