No when ever I unlock my device.. Very odd I'll monitor this closely..

You have an app looking for location. Pretty normal.

I have the same issue in Nexus 5 running Stock Rooted Lollipop.
Security - Smart unlock - trusted places....
This is what you looking for!
I am having the same issue. As soon as I unlock the phone, the GPS icon comes on and goes away very quickly. It has nothing to do with Smart Lock. Some type of app is requesting location upon unlock...
Go to location in settings, it tells you all the apps searching for location!
I have the same thing. I'm sure it's an app just don't know what.
Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA Free mobile app
Thought it was smart unlock as well but I disabled the location portion of it and it is still happening. Still looking.. Will report back...
So I turned off access to all apps that were listed in the location settings and still its being sent. The only way it stopped is turning off location totally. I'm returning my unit Monday any way as I now want the 64gb version and will be monitoring the threads until my 64gb ships..

Just chiming in to let you know that my Galaxy S3 does the same thing as well. I don't think it's a Nexus problem or even a Lollipop problem, just think that's what Android does.
It happpens to me too on my Lollipop Nexus 5.
I wonder if all of you have Google Fit installed... maybe it is related to that app
Mine also does this. With GPS turned completely off. I disabled Fit.
I even downloaded voodoo carrier iq detector because it kind of reeks of that.
This battery has me ready to switch phones. I hate the thought of it but I am getting 3-3.5 hours SOT with everything disabled (location, auto backup pics, only apps installed are battery/wakelock detectors).
It wouldn't be so bad but I see too many screenshots of people doubling my SOT without disabling anything

This morning my S5 auto updated itself without ANY of my intervention or approval. And by the time I realized it, it had already rebooted itself into recovery and was flashing itself. For those of us, like myself, who are pushing off the updates in hopes that an exploit will be found, this is a massive problem. I wiped it clean and returned it today for a full refund, as I bought it full price off-contract. I will be getting the Tmobile S5 and sim unlocking it. Screw you, AT&T.

Not that it's right, but you have to say fairly that you had likely declined the Auto-Update a few times of which each instance stays it for 4hrs(I'm sure it doesn't directly say it will do that).
I have been rigorously going into App Manager and stopping AT&T Auto-OTA update after any reboot. If you want to stop it from happening at night time then put the phone in U. Power Saving mode and it won't.
If any users have declined the Auto-Update it says on the AT&T site that after several denials and 4hr stays that it will reboot and auto update so your only course of action is what I'm submitting here. My solution so far has been to stop the AT&T Auto-Ota service that doesn't seem to auto wake itself other than on reboot and recently adding U. Power Saving Mode at night when I can't be attending.

I accidentally hit the update button after it asked me 9432590 times to update, so I immediately pulled the battery out (one of the nice features of having a samsung phone) after it started to reboot. I put in back in, fired it up and got a message saying "The update process was interrupted and was unsuccessful" or something like that. I haven't been bothered by it since
I wouldn't recommend anyone trying this as it seems very likely that a chance of bricking your phone will result, but if you want to risk it, do it.
Once the update appears you're out of luck. I postponed it several times and woke up to the update already applied. In a few weeks I'm going to tell at&t to go to hell and switch over to TMO.

This is nothing new. It's been happening with the S4s for over a year now. Unfortunately root is needed to freeze the apps responsible for the updates. Turning off Wifi, while not using the phone, can help, but until root is achieved it's going to happen.
Depending how vigilant, U. Power Saving mode is the best non-root way to ward it off.

Me either, my only nag is the security policies and i just swipe it away and keep killing the AT&T OTA update process anytime i see it restart after a reboot. I only suggest U. Power Saving because it turns off all the radios etc while sleeping so 0% chance of a snake in the grass crawling in while you slumber.
Half of me is a little mad at myself for underestimating how much I'd miss root, I sold a perfectly good Loki compatible GS4 for this thing. The other half of me realizes this phone is great because it's locked down and i can configure it to 90% of what i want and still quite enjoy it. Coming to terms that the GS4 owners after Loki had to suffer this and are STILL to this day and that may be our inevitable situation.
It's funny how normal users are always waiting for the carrier updates and yet we're here hating on them and trying to find a way stop stop the updates. There are so many customers that ask me about the software updates on a daily basis.

I do know this , somehow my SE security was updated, then I choose to take the OTA, I was messing around with some root methods that didn't work(yet), but I did a factory reset and I was still on the new 2AND3 firmware but my SE update was not present anymore. It was the original out of box SE. Just an FYI

AT&T Auto OTA Update
What's even more ridiculous is that this OTA update was simply to add two additional bloatware apps, Lookout Security and Yellow Pages, which the mothership had agreed to provide, but failed to include in the release...sigh...
Will likely wait it out another month or two, but will seriously be looking at the T-Mobile or other rootable alternative!
I've had a strange bug since I got the phone that I'm wondering if anyone else has seen (don't think it is hardware).
I can reproduce it every morning after I wake up. Conditions are as follows:
Phone is on the clock daydream while charging. I use Sleep As Android as my alarm. Every morning when my alarm is going off and I reach for my phone half of the screen is not working and or black.
I just had a recurrence of this in the xda app after I lost wifi connection and was exciting a thread (pressing the back button) during the handoff to LTE. Easy fix is to just hit the power button to turn the screen off then turn it back on. Works right away.
Anyone seen or read about anything similar?
Thanks!
I made a post earlier about screen touch issues and this is one of mine as well. I can't reproduce it like you can but the right half of the screen just drops off to touch.
Have you seen the half (or third) of the screen go completely black? Seriously Wtf. I've only had it happen probably 4 times.... Comes back on immediately and worms as expected if I press the power button twice.

Picked it up from tmobile on Wed morning.
Also, those issues seem different from what I read.. Screen is *completely* black and they get stuck. Mine works fine 100% except when I wake up with the prior conditions (over night, phone is on clock daydream, dimmed and I am woke up with Sleep As Android alarm). It has only happened once in any other circumstance. Also, my phone updated to LRX21O upon first boot.
At this point I can't tell if it is software or hardware... Not sure how tmobile handles this as I bought directly from them (no insurance as of yet) or if I go straight to Motorola?
I just wish I could conclusively rule out a hardware issue.
I'm having a similar issue. It seems to definitely be intermittent though. Also, I've only experienced it when my phone is in landscape mode. It goes back to normal when I flip it to portrait mode.
Did you ever find anything else out about the issue OP?

Nothing other than what is in here. Still happens to me, though much less frequently. Hoping the 5.1 update rumored for Feb solves some of the quirks.
I honestly think this is a hardware issue of some sort. I had my original Nexus 6 for weeks and throughout heavy usage, I never had any issues. The first day I received a replacement device from Google, half of my screen would freeze/go black when in landscape watching videos, playing games, and sometimes even browsing the web. This was with 100% stock ROM and kernel without root (which rules out that being an issue). I tried reflashing the stock image and the issue still persists.
I contacted the GPS customer service last night and ordered another replacement device. This is issue is certainly specific to this phone, my first device was used heavily and this never happened even once.
I am convinced it is hardware as well.
I am experiencing the same issue with my phone and opened a ticket with Google yesterday and I want mine replaced. It's not just the Nexus 6 that's suffering from this as some Droid Turbo users are experiencing it as well.

Same thing here. Tmobile 64 GB nexus 6. Bought mine from T Mobile, but they don't have a replacement to send me, so I contacted Motorola, and they sent me a new one that arrives tomorrow. I hope the same thing doesn't happen with this one.

Look on the positive side of things, 50% less battery drain due to screen usage...
I still think this is, in my case, specifically software. Other people have reported different issues that are most likely hardware, don't think mine is. Also it has only happened two or three times in the past month, seems to with screen on and rotation occurring at the same time, though I can't confirm or repro reliably.
Well, just had my replacement processed over the phone. Only potential issue is that they said it may be a refurbished device. Anyone know how/if there is a way to tell??
I am not sure if this is somehow related-but my first Nexus 6 I got from t-mobile was working fine and on the second day of owning it the touch screen stopped working! I mean it won't register any touch whatsoever! The phone was just charging and I just used it like 30min ago....tried rebooting, resetting-nothing helped-went to a t-mobile store and replaced with a new one. The second one works...for now. The strange part is that they were no issues-it worked flawlessly and all of a sudden just stopped responding to touch.
I have never experienced issues like this with any smartphone in my life-I have owned android smartphones ever since the G1 was released...

On the bottom right just before SeQ#
But a better way to check is to boot into the bootloader/fastboot hit valume down until you see barcode then push power.
For me the date it shows is 1 day before the date on the box. The box says 2014-11-16 bootloader says 2014-11-15.

I'm curious as to how it will interface with wear. If when they go out of range or (preferably) the victim is able to make a small gesture the phone locks and can't be unlocked until the wearable is reunited AND the password are re-entered. To me that seems like the ideal.
Then again I would love for smart lock to do a better job of using relative signal strength of estimating how far away the wearable and would automatically lock them outside that zone of control.
Ultimately, I think these two things are sort of right there and just need to be brought together.
Got it on my 5.1 Nexus 6.
Not working that reliably at the moment.
When set on the table and the screen turns off, it doesn't lock automatically...

I plugged my edge into my laptop for the first time today, right away there was a popup stating that there was a update available for my phone. It updated and now my screen rotation works.

BTW, I rooted with Pinngpong before the update and i'm still rooted, so this doesn't remove root.

The fix is making the phone use the gyroscope for screen rotation. If you have a way to check (very difficult 0n Verizon) I bet your accelerometer is still fried. I read on another forum that those who received the "fix" and were able to check their accelerometer found that it was still locked. Si it could be that the hardware is still at fault. ?????

Thankfully within the 14 day return period, I am getting a brand new 128gb model. I'll use an old charger until I see evidence that the fast charger is not the cause. Possibly a combination of that with the kernel allowing the phone to get too hot. I'd like to hear from anyone who's screen rotation works if they use the fast charger that came with the phone or not.

My screen rotation works just fine and I've been using the fast charger since unboxing (the day it came out). 64gb black if that matters to you.
I actually wasn't even aware there was an issue with the device outside of poor memory management. Maybe I'll switch an an older charger for now.
Also, be careful taking updates ... it's possible they've fixed the vulnerability that allowed us to get root way before any of us truly expected it.

I guess with fingerprint it's much faster since I don't have to lift the phone up since my finger is on the scanner. I want to say it wasn't like that when I first got there pixel 4. I want to say an update shortly changed the behavior

It's been a while since I've tried with my Pixel 4 XL because I got a Wear OS device back in August. You could be right though.

Even if my phone is unlocked and the screen is on, I still have to look at it and hit confirm after I tap it to the terminal.

I'm not positive with Google pay specifically but try disabling this option in settings/security/face unlock I've included a screenshot of what to disable.

Yeah it's disabled. I tried toggling it on and off again just to be sure.

Then it's just because of the level of security used for Gpay. I don't personally mind, my face unlock is lightning. I came from my Pixel 2 XL and the face unlock has been faster with a higher rate of success than the fingerprint scanner on my old Pixel.

For vending machines it's alright since it's face up but those flat terminals I have to tap, lift, verify, confirm and then re-tap. I know it's little but when I first got the phone it didn't have that extra confirmation since the phone was already unlocked.

If my phone is unlocked I do not have to look at it again when attempting to tap and pay with Gpay.
Just got back from my local 7 eleven and I used my Gpay to see how mine behaved and paying using the actual Gpay app, I did not have to scan my face again. Also I completely forgot about the Gpay shortcut I have enabled and once unlocked, I can instantly bring up my credit/debit cards and pay from any screen or app by holding the power button. See my screenshot below.

How did you enable that?

I have a Fossil Gen 5 and I've tried enabling GP on the watch but it's annoying to me since it needs authorization. Every time I do anything on the watch I have to unlock it or GP won't work. How do you do it conveniently?

I have a gen 5 Carlyle too. What authorization are you talking about? Setting up a card for the watch takes several steps but once it's done, Google Pay is just a swipe and tap away for me. I turn on the screen (I keep "always-on screen" option on and tilt-to-wake off), swipe down, and tap the Pay icon. My default card pops up and I just put it close to the tap the pay area. Even quicker is putting Google Pay on a watchface but I don't use it enough to do that. I would rather have something like battery, weather, or Google Health info.

What happens to me is that I need to put on an authorization method on the watch. Either a pin or password and anytime I use the watch, even if it's not for GP, it asks for the pin code or pwd. Even if I go to check notifications I have to put in my pin. I don't use always on but I do use tilt to wake. You think I need to change that in order for it to be easier to use? I'm going to check Reddit now too see what they suggest or if anyone is having issues like I am.

Well that's annoying. I have a a screen lock too but it's supposed to be only automatic. So only when the watch is off my wrist does it ask for my pattern.

It's very annoying. I think one of the problems is that I use my metal watchband a lot and it's kind of loose on my wrist, purposely so. So it might think it's off my wrist when it slides around. Seems like others are having the same issue but I'll look into it further. I have always used my phone for GP anyway so it's not a huge deal but it would be cool to be able to use it.

It being loose most likely the issue. I have a metal band and although I don't work out with it, I keep it snug enough that it doesn't lock yet loose enough that it can slide a little.

That's what it is. I put on my black band and it seems to be staying unlocked now.

I used both those commands and the position of the power menu changed to the bottom but my cards don't show up at the top to rotate through. I uninstalled and reinstalled Google pay. I still have to do the 2nd confirmation in order to use Google pay.
