Hi, i'm planning to buy a new phone. Currently i've a Samsung Galaxy S2 (i9100) and want something faster and updated.
After consider various options (phones features, prices, availability in my country) i reduced the list to the Motorola Moto X 2014 and the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact.
The things that interest me are:
Good audio quality and volume with headphones. I own a Sennheiser HD 429s headphones, wich have 32 ohm of impedance, so with the S2 i must use headphone amplifier (FiiO E6) for get more volume and "definition". My idea with a new phone is use the headphones without the amplifier (because the HD 429s have mic, and with the amplifier i cannot use)
Good Android support and fast updates. I think the Moto X is best on this point compared to the Z3C (pure Android & updates), but also know the Sony AOSP project and the efforts of Sony to bring Lollipop quickly.
Good community support and ROMs. I love to install ROMS and get the best of my device. Currently have CM10.2 on my S2. I think the Moto X will be better on this point
Powerful performance. Both devices have Snapdragon 801 @2.5 Ghz, so i think the performance is guaranteed. But ¿the customized UI on the Z3C affects the performance of the phone? ¿is best to performance getting pure Android, as on Moto X?
Good battery life and construction quality. I want to escape from all-plastic Samsung devices. Also, i don't want a big phone. The 5.2" screen and phone size of the Moto X is the maximum size that i can bear
So, what phone you recommend to buy guys? Someone have tested the phones with 32 ohm headphones?
Thanks.:good:

Both are great devices. My brother in law bought a Z3 Compact just a month ago and I bought my Moto X 2 weeks ago, so I have tasted both devices .
A few points:
- Build quality: the Z3 Compact is nice, but by far the Moto X has a more premium build. The look and grip of the Moto X, for me, is the best in the Android market right now.
- Performance: the Moto X has the most fluid and best performance in the Android market, you can check that in every forum.
- Updates support: Motorola has been great in this. To be honest when I bought the phone (Moto X) I thought I would get the OTA in a couple days...its been 2 weeks and nothing. And for what I've read, Lollipop is quiet buggy yet, so better to wait a little bit hehehehehe
- Camera: in here i think the Z3 Compact wins. The Moto X camera is good enough, but not great.
- Battery life: to be honest I haven's asked my brother in law regarding his battery life with the Z3 Compatc. Regarding the Moto X, I've read that some people think is average-bad. In my case, I think is OK. I can make the whole day and plug it at night with 30-20% remaining, depending in how much time I play with Angry Birds Transformers hahahahahah
Overall my friend, both great phones! going from a Samsung S2 to any of this 2 phones will be a BIG BIG update for you, so you will enjoy both!
Cheers and congratz for your purchase (whichever you chose )

Hi fellow chilean,
I have a moto x, I don't know about the audio output but my cons against the phone:
- Below average battery life (I have to plug it during the day to make it)
- Regular camera
The pros about z3:
-Is waterproof.
Good audio quality and volume with headphones: Neither is spectacular here, but both should do better than the Galaxy S2. The GS2 had pretty low output power so it struggled with headphones but was great if you were using an external amplifier. Both the Z3C and Moto X can output more power on their own. The Moto X has less noise, but has a strange drop-off in the bass frequency response around 100MHz.
Good Android support and fast updates: Moto X wins here at least based on historical data.
Good community support and ROMs: Right now, neither is particularly good for development. The Moto X 2013 didn't really get much ROM support until 4-6 months after release. I don't know much about the support history of Sony devices.
Powerful performance: Performance should be about the same. The Z3C's skin is not particularly heavy.
Good battery life and construction quality: Both the Z3C and the Moto X are well made. The Moto X might have the slight edge on construction quality, but the Z3C has the advantage of being waterproof. The Z3C is by far the winner on battery life. In PhoneArena's tests it actually got the best battery life of any current smartphone, while the Moto X is on the bottom as far as current phones go.
I have both devices. Audio is much better on the X (I'm a musician as well) camera is much better on the z3c. Battery life is FAR superior on the z3c. Honestly it's the best battery life I've seen on any device I've owned and I've owned countless devices. The only one I've owned that had battery life comparable was the OnePlus One.
The Moto X is much more snappy and fluid. I love the size of the z3c and it fits my hand perfectly and it's refreshing to have that much power in a "normal" size phone. But the X feels more natural in the hand and hugs it better..
When both were on 4.4.4 I was using my z3c as my daily driver then when lollipop dropped I switched to using the X again. I'm sure I'll go back to the z3c when 5.0 drops for it and am actually using it now because I shattered the screen on mine and have to send it for repair
Is size important to you? The z3c is similar size to last years X. The size difference between last year and this is noticeable, in both good and bad ways. Are you at all bought into the SONY environment? Have a playstation 4? The z3c has a sony media environment tie-in if that is a factor for you. I considered the z3c, but the more pure android environment and design of the X won for me.
Today I buyed the Moto X 2nd Gen. What a beast in performance! I'm really impressed with the speed and features of the phone. Sadly, can't play 24-bit flacs (despite the SD 801), but overall I'm very satisfied with my choice I choosed the X over the Z3 Compact because the Z3C have a quiet audio output with headphones compared to the X, and I read great reviews about Active Display and Moto Voice. Thanks to all!

guys i don't know what to do i've just seen the live presentation of moto g... and damn, 199usd for a quadcore s400 with 16gb...
should i have to wait for the (maybe) coming update, or is it better to sell the razr i for 250$ and get this new phone?
i know the lack of camera and body materials, or memory expandibility (actually have a 8gb microsd, so that's not a problem for me...)
so, please, tell me all of your opinion... with pros and cons in your opinion. thanks in advance!

g is bigger so razr i is my choice.
I still prefer my Razr I, G doesn't have NFC and I love my Intel CPU
Also the I is more edge2edge than the G and I like the material of the I
Razr i won't get kitkat, in my honest opinion. If that's the only thing keeping you from selling, I would go ahead and sell
Sent from my XT890 using xda app-developers app
well... i also love the premium materials... and the compact size, but, i really would like to have 4.4 for the optimizations it brings... and the lack of custom roms cause of x86 arch... i'm praying for seeing that "it'll get 4.4 soon" on the official motorola page
AFAIK the camera is better on Razr over that of the G and whilst an update to the phone would be nice I'm ok with the features it has for what I bought it for. Overall the razr i is still a great phone for me and I would buy it over the G version.
You should take a closer look to their specs. Bear in mind that I don't know how much Razr i costs in your country new or used...
Razr i / Moto G
CPU - Intel Atom Z2480 x86 2Ghz x1 (HyperThreading) / Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 1,2Ghz x4
GPU - Power VR SGX540 @ 400Mhz 6.2GFLOPS / Adreno 305 19.2GFLOPS
RAM - 1GB LPDDR2 @ 800Mhz / 1GB LPDDR2 @ 533Mhz (supposed)
ROM - 8GB / 8GB or 16GB
Battery - 2000mAh / 2070mAh
System - Android on x86 4.0.4 update to 4.1.2 / Android on ARM 4.3
Screen - 4.3" SuperAMOLED 540x960 256ppi GG2 / 4.5" LCD GorillaGlass3 720x1280 329ppi
Camera - 8mpx autofocus LED flash 1080p 30fps video / 5mpx autofocus LED flash 720p 30fps video
SecCam - 0.3mpx 640x480 30fps video / 1.3mpx unknown video recording resolution
Connect - NFC, Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi N, HSPA+, GPS / Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi N, GPS, HSPA+
SIze - H>122.43mm W>60.71mm D>8.38mm - 126 g / H>129.9mm W>65.9mm D>11.6 mm - 143 g
As you may see here, the Razr i is quite smaller and also features a better display, with a lower resolution. Whether this resolution changes anything or not is down to the use you will give to your phone. The Razr i should have a marginally better battery life due to the type of screen, lower resolution and same battery capacity. Also the Razr has better connectivity overall, supporting NFC and has a marginally better camera, that will appeal to some people. The last advantage for the Razr is the memory bandwith, being an x86 device with an Atom processor, I have seen that the ram speed is about 25% faster than the GS3 which had quite a good RAM. However, the Moto G wins hands down on the CPU and GPU departure. In contrast, it has to power up quite a few more pixels and this narrows down the advantage. You may then choose your phone based on this, and on your likings/kind of usage obviously.
1. Is micro SD support a must?
2. Do you care for Kitkat? Or lots of custom rom options? (pretty sure the G will get plenty of them)
3. Is nfc a big deal for you?
4. Do you care about screen resolution?
I'm deciding between these two phones now as well, and this was the best I could come up with for deciding. If you can answer them you'll know which one you want. Good luck!

I would add these:
5. Do you need more gaming performance? (buy the G)
6. Do you want a thinner device? (buy the Razr i)
7. Do you want a phone mid-high end design or a low-mid end(moto G)?
I should still advice you that if you are not are frequent user of demanding games, reading, or cpu intensive tasks on android, you will be more than satisfied with the Razr i. If you are more of a power user and dont care much about the features you should buy the Moto G. If you don't like any of the two buy the Nexus 5...
Thanks to all of you guys. I think to take with me the RAZR for the premium feels it gives to me even if less powerful. The only thing I could regret is the fact it will not get Kk.. but. I hope in you modders
Only advantage RazrI has to MotoG is quality and size, screen quality, camera, speaker should be equal, performance, devs and moto support should be better on MotoG.

I have the same dilemma, I have a Moto G but not used yet as I'm waiting for a screen protector. I was about to get a Razr I but for £50 cheaper the Moto G made more sense. The Razr I i still £150 at the moment, maybe if it drops a little lower I will take one.
EDIT: I bought both a Moto G 8Gb and a Razr I, reason being my sister also wanted a new phone so whichever I didn't want she would take. The issue with Three stores in the UK is that the phone is locked into some protective casing in the shop so you can't hold them, and they don't allow opening one up unless you want to buy it, so it's difficult to compare them in the shops.
However, as soon as you hold both in your hand the Razr I has a much more premium feel, it's probably the nicest phone I have ever handled (and that includes an iPhone 5). IMO the iPhone 5 is a perfect size and weight and this is pretty much the same but without IOS (which is a benefit!).
I don't see much difference in the screen at all in terms of size and quality. The Razr I feels quicker though as you scroll through menus and open up apps etc. Plus the SD card slot is a nice addition (although not one of my requirements).
Is it worth an extra £50/33% premium on top of the Moto G? I guess that depends on what you will use it for. If you're not going to use much storage and are a light user then the Moto G is the one to go for, especially with a guaranteed 4.4 update to Android. If you can spend the extra then get the Razr I it's a bargain for what it is.
I have both at the moment and believe me it's a tough question for sure. I must say one handed use of RAZR i is a big plus.
Razr I advantages :
Better camera
Micro-sd support up to 64gb
One handed use
Premium quality
Better and faster internet experience
Moto G advantages
Better display
Better battery ( just a little )
Better front cam
Current Android version, update to Lollipop
Better gaming experience
I will wait for 4.4.2 on RAZR i to make a better judgement. btw moto g gets 17500 while razr i gets 17000 antutu points. ( the lower resolution on razr i helps to its inferiror gpu compared to Adreno 305 with 720p on moto g )
hi, so to introduce myself, I've been a nexus s user for quite some time.
I've now decided that it is time to change phones, and having been with the small nexus s form factor I find it difficult to continue in the nexus line since I would be getting into 5" phones (nexus 5)... even the nexus 4 seems a bit too big for my taste.
That's why I've been on the fence concerning a couple of phones, notably the s4 mini, the one mini, and of course, the moto x.
The reason I post this in the moto x forum is because I am leaning favorably towards the moto x, so I'd like to know what you all think.
here are my very general pros/cons for each phone:
one mini: pros - very aesthetically pleasing design
cons - there seems to be poor development
s4 mini: pros - very small form factor!! bigger screen for the same size as my old nexus s
- also extremely light!
- there seems to be some development
cons - moto x seems better (its lacking the moto x pros, haha)
moto x: pros - its the closest phone to a 'nexus phone', without being one
- its getting 4.4 soon, so I feel like it will probably get more timely updates
- all of its cool gimmicks (customization, touchless control, active notifications, double twist camera)
- i've read about great battery life and perfomance
- i probably wouldn't even want a custom rom if i get Xposed
cons - it may be a bit big? 4.7 seems like a stretch for me
Overall I don't think the one mini is really a true contestant, I just keep it there because I love the design. However between the s4 mini and the moto x I find myself really doubting. I've held an s4 mini and it is really, really light and very very comfortable in the hand. I haven't (and won't have) the chance to hold a moto x so I won't have an element of comparison for the form factor. Care to help me out?
I'd like to hear about your opinions on this! Thanks!
It's not even a competition. CMON MAN!!! S4 mini really?
Buy the Moto X ... you should not even consider that s4 mini thing.

4.7 is a good size for many people and it feels great in the hand. The X is a very friendly and familiar feeling phone to come to from the Nexus devices in terms of a stock Android experience.
To me, it comes down to the following question -- "Do I want the unique features of the Moto X enough to pick it over Y Phone?" It seems like you value a smaller form factor phone and 4.3" screen more than many of us here would (in fact, I personally wouldn't mind if the X were slightly bigger). The Active Notifications, Always On Voice Command, MotoMaker customizations, and so on are truly what set the X apart from anything else.
I think you really should find a way to get an X in your hand before you commit to it. Do you have a Walmart or Best Buy nearby to demo one? You also have a 14 day (30 in California) trial period at least if you buy it from Motorola. If you find it is too big, simply contact customer support and return it, no questions asked.
If you buy the S4 mini, you get:
cruddy cpu and overall laggy and stuttery performance
cruddy gpu and overall laggy and stuttery performance
cruddy 540p display and bad viewing angles and colors
a small and light phone
extremely slow updates
If you buy the moto x, you get:
decent cpu with exceptional performance
great gpu with exceptional performance
mediocre 720p display with very good color reproduction
a very solid feeling phone that fits in your hand
updates almost as fast as GPE phones
I don't know if this even needs any thinking...it looks like a no-brainer to me
EDIT:
additionally, moto x has (in order from most useful to least useful):
active notifications
dual antennae LTE (MIMO)
fast wifi (support for ac bands)
touchless controls
really good battery life
a cool dimple that makes the phone super comfortable to hold
that's no S4 mini.. tha'ts a Samsung Victory 2 in disguise.. do the moto x

You are probably the only one who understood that the actual dilemma for me is the size. I wont be able to hold one because I live in france. Im planning on ordering it, having it shipped to France and then sim-unlocking it.
Anyway thanks for everyone's unanimous point of views. I think im going to take the leap in size barrier and go with ghe moto x!
Its going to be soo nice to have a new great phone!! I can't tell you how sluggish, laggy and poor in battery life my nexus s is...
I'm in the market for a new phone but am picky when it comes to choosing one. I made the thread in the Moto X forum because it's one of my go to choices. Here's what I'm looking for:
I have a lot of music (8GB) and little data so no cloud storage, must be on the device or SD card. 16GB or under will not work with ~8GB of music and some apps I'm looking at 2 free GB for future use.
I'm going to use this phone for the next 2-3 years
Must be usable with one hand - I hate huge phones and am really disappointed with manufacturers not providing any devices for the niche market that want high end specs in a mid size device. I'm forced to look at mid range phones or flagship phones from years back when they were smaller. The Moto X feels great in the hand however and works good with one handed usage.
I'd like a good camera and this is where the Moto X starts to worry me. I'm not printing any shots or making posters but if I can get a phone that has a better camera compared to the Moto X for the same price, I'd like that more.
1) Has the camera update really helped?
2) Has Kit Kat really helped?
3) What about using Google Camera app instead of the Motorola Camera app?
My budget is around $300 so if I choose the Moto X it would need to be the 32GB version and I'd need to wait a little bit for the price to get down to what I can afford, possibly when the X+1 comes out.
I'm thinking about either the Moto X or the S3. The S3 is the absolute biggest size I'm willing to hold with one hand, the N5 is too big. Before you say the S3 is 2 years old and is nearing the end of its life I will mention that I do not need a current flagship device. I text, make calls, listen to music, and browse the web on a smart phone. No videos, no games, nothing high tech. To this I say, why do I need anything more modern than an S3? Sure there's 1080p screens today and quad core CPUs and 3GB of RAM but I'm merely texting. My Galaxy Ace can text if I need it to.
The reason I'm liking the sound of the S3 is because of its superior camera compared to the Moto X. If anyone can convince me otherwise though, I'm open for other phone suggestions or if the camera on the X is better than I think it is I'm willing to wait for the price to go down. I will not be using the Moto X for its features 'ok Google Now' or driving mode or anything else.
Most important: size, memory, camera.
I can do some comparison pictures for my step father's s3 and my Moto X. I'll try and remember.
32GB Moto X meets all your needs albeit I suspect the S3 has a better camera indeed. I was the original owner of that s3 so I have some experience with it.
It's fast.
It's the perfect size.
Active notifications is godly.
Screen is great if you enjoy amoled screens.
Also, I do some hi-fi listening and own audiphone grade digital audio players like Fiio X5 and Hifiman HM700, Theorem 720 DAC/Amp and corresponding higher end headphones in the $300 to $1k range. The Moto X sounds decent to be honest. I even prefer it to my iphone 5 which as per technical specifications should be superior to the Moto X (flat frequency response and lower THD supposedly).

It's a great phone but the camera is a bummer from what I've seen. Do you mind posting some photos comparing the S3 and the Moto X when you get the chance? I'd appreciate it.
Hey guys,
After a year of exploring Windows Phone i am coming back to android.
I just love the looks of Moto X 2014 bamboo edition and I am skeptical wether it would be a wise move, or just buy Moto Play.
The size and the bamboo, just make me love this phone, buy would you say is a good buy or just buy the Play which should be better in many aspects, although no bamboo and bigger size, that I don't like.
I have both. Honestly it's a hard call for me. Bouncing back and forth between devices, they both have their strong points. If size is your concern, then go with the 2014. Battery? XPlay. Premium feel? 2014. Camera? XPlay. Speed? They are around the same, though the XPlay has micro lags time to time. Expansion? XPlay. IR sensors? 2014. In some regards, the 3rd generation G performs better than the XPlay. Really it all boils down to what your explicit needs are.
Ok thanks. Do you really feel that camera improved that much?

Low light it still isn't as good as the g4, and s6, but overall, I find it worlds better. I'm not doing anything crazy, but overall I find it to be a marked improvement over the 2014.
The phone overall doesn't have that same feel of speed, but I'm not sure if that's something that will be fixed with kernel optimizations. Why exactly is it that you want a Moto device vs from another manufacturer?
great thanks,
i always liked Moto, from my Moto MIlestone.
LG: i tried LG G2 but i had a horrible experience with their customer service and sold all devices i had at home (tv, soundbar etc). Samsung and Sony, i dont like their interface. Huawei, i hate their interface. I love Stock Android, but Nexus is way too big...
This is my story, and that is why i tried Windows for about a year now, cause i wanted someting different...

Hi,
I tested both and ended sending back the play and keeping the x 2014, here are the reasons:
- got the x 2014 32 gb on an amazon deal for 299 euros against the 350 for the play
- the play was just too big for me, 5,2 inches is the biggest I can deal with
- the play's buttons felt way too cheap, they were loose and rattled all the time, for me that was not acceptable
- the play hasn't got gyroscope (no photosphere pictures) or IR sensors, and waving at the phone to turn it on is really comfortable
- the x 2014 feels much sturdier
- the x 2014 is snappier, I could notice the microlags on the play
Battery life is much better on the play, but now I carry an external battery with me just in case. The camera is also better, but the one from the x 2014 isn't that bad. The play has a SD card slot but 32 GB is enough for my use. The play display is fine, but so is the x 2014's.
If storage, battery life and camera is important for you and you are OK with the size go for the play.
So there it is, hope it helped!

so after playing with both phones, i am feeling that Moto X Play is way to big for me, and i dont feel that i have a special phone in my hand, whereas i had this feeling with Moto X 2014.
i just wish there was a phone like Moto X 2014 out there in the market, with a better camera, external sd card, and slightly better battery.
Now i am searching for another brand, and maybe i will leave Motorola because of this.

HTC One m8 or M9.
In terms of speed, HTC M8 and Moto X are tie as far as I can tell. HTC One M8 is way prettier than Moto and feels better in hand than moto.
So I would say M8 > Moto X 2014.
M9 is almost identical to m8 except chips and camera.
Lots of people say M9> M8 . But considering the price, I love m8 better.
From my hands on experience with all major Android phones, the overall best one in 2014 is M8.
2015 best phone hands down to S6/S6 edge. It blows everything else away. And yes, the new touchwiz is NOT slow at all.
So I bought an XT1068 on Jan 2015, for its dual SIM capabilities, the AOSP like firmware, the capability of rooting and the availability of custom ROMs. I have to say I am pretty disappointed and I wouldn't buy it again.
The stock 5.0.2 ROM is unusable for me. Lag is awful when a few apps get installed, Bluetooth audio (that I use when I am at work listening to music) breaks all the time, when Chrome is launched everything else gets killed and I could go on and on.
CM12/CM12.1 did a lot to improve the experience, Bluetooth music works fine, lag is limited (without Chrome) etc. Yet CM had many bugs at the beginning that had to do with core function of the phone such as the screen not lighting up during a phone call and had to reboot, the inability for the call receiver to hear me etc.
Although CM improved the experience by a wide margin that's the CM's team achievement not the manufacturer's.
The device has an inherent flaw, very little RAM that severely curtails multitasking as Google component's and 3rd party apps are getting heavier and heavier.
So if were looking for a dual SIM under 200€ I'd purchased one that meets the following criteria:
• Snapdragon SoC
• 5 inch minimum
• Dual SIM
• Rootable
• 2GB RAM
• A usable Stock ROM
• Availability of custom ROMs (optional)
Since Jan 2015 when Ι purchased Moto G 2014, several Chinese phones came across my hands (Lenovo, Xiaomi, Cubot, Meizu, Doogee) and sort of checked them. Although I didn’t use them myself the people that did said good things about them as far as multitasking is concerned when I played with them they surpassed Moto G 2014 by a distance. The one thing that put me off in January going the "China way" was the MediaTek SoC that have on them with their awful GPS (speaking from experience)
I care but not that much about updates as I care about stability, multitasking, multimedia and navigation.
One great thing I can say about Moto G 2014 is its GPS whether on stock or CM. Always reliable and accurate, even in doors.
Though a year has not passed since I purchased the Moto G 2014, I am sadly looking for a replacement. I am so disappointed with the stock 5.0.2 that I am seriously considering not purchasing a Motorola device ever again (even if there is the CM option, a manufacturer should ship its device with a usable ROM).
I'ts time to check if a budget device meets my criteria above (if I exclude the Snapdragon one the list is pretty big)
Motorola, in my point of view, is one of the best manufacturers when looking for a nearly stock android experience, so no doubt in that.
Yes, the Moto G 2015 is out for several months now. No it's not worth the upgrade, you lose the stereo speakers and the performance difference is not that significant. You can get the best out of your 2014 installing simply a custom ROM like the unofficial CM 13 (6.0) which is a great ROM even though it's in Alpha stage.
If you want to give Motorola another shot and want to spend something like 300 dollars, you could buy the Moto X 2014 or for 400 dollars the Moto X Pure.
@thdervenis get oneplus x

I don't regret buying this phone at all. (Got XT1068)
I was looking for a smooth, Aosp'ish stock rom with a community behind it and cheap phone.
Basically all i wanted +extra features like stereo speakers and OTA's.
Even though Moto G 2015 is out, nearly nothing changes. Both phones will get 6.0.
Well, i bought this device december 2014, after 5.0.2 update the phone was rubbish, CM 12.1 helped allot, but the 1 gb of ram has limitations... about a month ago i gave my father my xt1068 and bought myself a LG G Flex 2 for less than 300 euro, if you live in the US you can buy this phone brand new for 250$ unlocked from ebay, in my opinion is the best bang for your buck... better choice than the one plus x in my opinion, lg did a good job with the 5.1.1 update and fix all the heating problem with the SD810 and its going to recive 6.0
No regrets at all. It's perhaps the best phone I've had, including the Skyrocket I had before it. You should realize that a mid-range phone is just that; it's just a basic phone for the average user with a few extra features. However, seeing how quickly smartphone technology is progressing, our phone could be seen as a low-end device at this point.
You can't really expect high-end performance from a phone released a year ago and is under $200.
If price isn't an issue, look at some high-end models.
To be honest that's the first device of mine I didn't regret. It taught me a lot of new stuff, made me into CM + it's enough for my usage.
I guess it doesn't take a lot to please me. I'm coming from a nexus 4. For a budget phone this phone is spectacular. I have minimal OS 5.1.1 with halogen kernel and I've had no problems nor any regrets whatsoever. I'm the only one at my job to get 3G or any signal at all. I really don't know what else a person expect out of a phone, my GPS is great, the audio is awesome with faux sound control, and pictures and videos are just great. Popping a 64 gigabyte micro SD and you're good to go. So, needless to say I'll be keeping this phone for another year or two!
Yes, Play Services and Play Store are undoubtedly hogs. But when running BRNmod, or a custom ROM with MicroG and Xposed, I find the Moto G is still fine as a general day-to-day workhorse. I don't find it wanting for RAM, but I don't run a great deal in the background (Greenify, Tasker, Pushbullet, Minima Pro, AOSP keyboard and a few other services managed with Tasker and the Greenify plugin). I have Play Store installed, but have Tasker disable the package when it leaves the foreground. Auto-update of apps is done overnight via Tasker and simulated user input, after which Play Store is disabled again.
