Hey guys. Just recently, my motherboard went into a frenzy and sent a surge through it's auxilary molex connector (for extra power when you have SLI) and fried all my harddrives, dvd burner and the motherboard itself.
I've lost about 15 years of my life and work... the back ups where in multiple harddrives... all fried... pictures... papers... *sigh*
Anyhoo, I need to buy some new parts so I figured I'd start from scratch.
Currently I have the following to sell first:
Athlon64 X2 3800+ 939 (had it stable at 2.57 with no volt changes.)
2GB (2x1GB) DRR-I Samsung M368L2923DUN-CCC runs at 250mhz just fine. Haven't tried any faster. No volt changes. Just bought them at the end of last month.
XFX 7900GS
ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 64 Pro
I'm hoping to get something for them since they're in perfect working condition. Especially the DDR memory because it's good ddr1 and ddr1 is expensive...
But anyways, the most important part is:
What do you think of this. Anyone ever had any of these parts? I'm definitively overclocking. Give me reviews!

the processor will hold the rest back imho, with core 2 duo i would go for the lowest clocked model of the highest cache size you can afford and overclock like hell!
also how much are you looking for each serperately and together?

I've seen most of these chips run at around 3.0ghz. They seem to perform well. I'm in a tight budget but I'm open to suggestions.
These guys got it to 3.6ghz.
EDIT: Forgot to add the prices:
To tell you the truth, I don't know what it's worth...
I paid $80 last month for the memory.
I gotta find out what they're worth first.
Hi! i currently have a hero with sensehero 2.1 installed. it works fine, but are getting tired, both speakers blown and quite scratchy screen.
So what i was wondering is, is it worth the buy of a liquid e over my hero? i can get an ok deal on one in norway for 480usd$ last year i payed ~780 usd for my hero. should i save up a bit and buy a htc with non underclocked snapdragon, or the liquid? i dont mind it getting hot as some reviews say, so does my hero. But what im most worried about here is the quality of the screen, is it scratch resistant enough? and how is the speed compared to say a desire or a nexus one?
Hope someone can answer my questions and sosry if there is some bad english
Thank you!
Ole
Never used the Hero (was considering it) but I think that it is a better phone.
I have an A1 (256 megs of RAM while E has 512 megs of RAM). Mine is overclocked to 1GHz so in terms of speed, it is fast (Linpack scores of 6.x nearing 7). Even at 768MHz it was getting Linpack results in the 5.x range. There is also reason to believe that the GPU is overclocked because it gets Nenamark scores in the 16.7 fps range at 1GHz (while HTC 1GHz Snapdragon phones get it in the 10-13 range). So yes, the speed does compare to Nexus/Desire.
The phone is plasticky and creaky, doesn't look amazing or anything, but in terms of hardware, you won't get better bang for buck anywhere.
As far as scratch resistant goes, I was using without a protector for the past 2 months and there are a couple of small scratches (really not too bad. Does not affect anything on the screen). The phone does include a screen protector but it is utter ****. I could not use it. Recently I ordered a 3M protector and a scratch remover, hopefully that takes care of it.
In terms of overall screen quality:
-It is an 800x480 WVGA 3.5" screen so the it does look really good. I don't see pixels or anything.
-The multitouch works but is not great. However there is a custom kernal which does improve it (this is an MT test with the fix, the test is done in FroYo, which is somewhat usable but still lots of work needed til its perfect, but this kernal is also available for Éclair- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HTBRwgFPnC8 )
-The sensitivity is not great, however there is a hack which greatly improves it.
If you are looking for something affordable yet nice, you should take a long hard look at this. If you do plan on saving up a bit and stepping up, I think the Galaxy S would be a better buy given how much better the Hummingbird processor is to Snapdragon (especially on graphics) and how nice the Super AMOLED screen is.
Wow. I didnt actually bother checking out the Samsung I9000 Galaxy S from my network supplyer here in Norway, Telenor. I just assumed it would be dirt expensive. And i found it was only 30 dollars more expensive than the acer if i lock my service plan in for another 12 months :O.
I now know its GOING TO be the samsung only downer is that its huge! but ill survive that. Now i cant wait for my paycheck.
hi peeps,
At least in the 1Ghz cpu weight devision, is it still worth buying at ~US$545? i'm not that impressed with the past and current 1Ghz offerings. My main concern is software updates -- which, ironically, was why i hesitated buying the SGS a year ago. But then Samsung appears to have released a Gingerbread update ahead of everyone else( *cough* HTC *cough*), has even announced that it won't lock the bootloader, and appears to have a ton of custom ROMs and just as much "unofficial" developer support.
Then again, the projected price range of the dual core monsters coming in May isn't really that big; imho a US$100 price premium is well worth it for me.
I think as of right now, anyone who wants a phone should wait for the SGSII, but as for buying the SGS, im glad i bought it when i did (jan). The community make it what it is. If there wasnt custom roms to speed the phone up then i would have been bitterly disapointed with the lag of a stock SGS, yes gingerbread is quick but its been awhile in the making.
One year and another month different story SGS 2 on sale SGS 1 at a cheaper price .

Nope. Save your money for SGS2 or dual-core HTCm whatever suits you.
I would definitely hang on for whichever dual core floats your boat, be it HTC or SGS II. As good as the SGS is (I love mine) it will struggle to compete with the heavyweight dual core handsets.
Get a Tegra 2 based device. See how much juice they consume though.
SGS 2 is silly big, well for me personally, there ought to be some constraints to limit overall size of device, afterall its mobile phones we're talking about. Bigger devices defeat the purpose of having a mobile phone and tend to look rather unprofessional, more like portable gaming devices.
I'm going to take the opposite opinion to many on here.

doesn't have dual core, waaa waaa my penis isn't big enough, go and buy 3 spare batteries to run the dual core SGS2, better still buy a laptop, because the only people I have seen with ANY kind of computing power problems are frankly assholes who could bring a cray to its knees in a week.

phones have got to the place desktops got with 3ghz cpu's and xp/linux, almost nobody actually needs faster more than 0.5% of the time.

The next big revolution is going to be in battery tech, when you can get 5000 mAh into the volume and mass of 1000 mAh today, that will open new doors
thermal rejection of an SGS at full battery draining whack is already as high as you can go and stay healthy silicon wise.
just be grateful it ain't x86.... (speaking as someone who used to run 64bit MIPS Cobalt RAQ2's back in the day when they were the new kid on the block... wow, an empty pizza box with not even any heatsinks on the silicon...)
save your money for SGS II
i just bought mine last week. got it for around $470 (8GB version) in Vietnam. the reason i got it was mainly due to the great screen as well as the strong community developer support which coming from the Galaxy Spica is a BIG difference in the overall user experience. I love tech and love tinkering with my phone. I don't believe dual core will make that much of a difference unlike on a laptop/desktop where you really have to run multiple programs (note: antivirus). I know my SGS will be astounding as soon as the devs finish tweaking the heck out of the GB code!
If you are going to pay that kind of price (around 500$) and you care about updates, why don't you get a Nexus S ?
Same phone, slightly better and corrected hardware-wise. It is supported by Google and CyanogenMod.
I think it's worth considering buying second hand. I just bought a 1 month old handset for quite a bit less than a new one. It's in perfect condition. And I'll use it for the next year and then upgrade when the SGSII (and others like it) are down to a reasonable price. Rinse and repeat (too expensive to be on the bleeding edge all the time ).

I agree. SGS is still a great buy.
honestly, i do find dual cores a bit of an overkill for phones...but yeah, the price diff is just too close, esp. if you compare it with the G2X. dual core it is then. i just wish HTC(and all the other brands) would stop with the signed bootloader crap.
Then again, once the other dual cores come out, then the SGS drops to US$350...hmm...

Hello fello xda users.
I'm in this forum since i've bought xperia u. Now i'm thinking of buying xperia zr. Why? It is old, right? Then why?
I'm buying this device because it is low budget with great specifications phone. But before going further, I want to know what's the actual deal with this phone. Is it really worth buying? How is the 8GB rom memory divided into? In xperia u it is 8GB with no memory card slot. 4GB internal sd card, 2GB for installing apps and hidden 2GB for system. Is it the exact way of division in this phone also? Give me your thoughts please.
Other options are also appreciated.
Well I won't and can't tell should you buy this phone. What I can tell you is that it has battery that can be changed and trust me it can be great plus. Also it's specification is of a very good and powerfull phone, and it is story for it self.
From those 8 gb I had 4.59 free to use as I like. Also you have SD slot for 32 Gb card, honestly I have seen somewhere that someone is using 64 Gb card (I can't confirm this so better don't do it)...so with no apps to sd, without rooting your phone, it is enough for normal use, but for serious gaming it is not enough. Now I would recomend PS4, Xbox One or PC for gaming but that is me (no offence). If you root your phone other possibilities open to you.
Also word of advice-be very carefull with sim card slot as it is very easy to brake as it is like tray. Also buy screen protector right away as ASF(anti shater film) can be scratched by looking at it:cyclops: Really buy it as fast as you can.
Few days ago I had over 25k in antutu benchmark with stock 4.4.4 Xperia ZR and people here tell me that with root and "better" kernel and rom I could get over 30k. Those are very good results...as I understand
Camera is 13.1 Mpx and it is really good. My opinion is that if you need better you can buy digital photoaparat and use that
It's price is also something to think about but shouldn't be crucial moment in choosing as there is other phones in this price range with specification lile Xperia ZR.
So my opinion very good phone that has few things I wanted so I picked it.
Anyway I hope I helped and good luck in your choice.
phone is good but lack some features of its elder sibling Z and ZL. it should have been given 16GB of internal memory like other two.
Also front camera is very poor quality VGA whereas Z has 2.2 MP.
Z and ZL have almost identical features except one is so called "waterproof" and dust proof and one is not.
The only negative that I have seen with ZL is its camera performance is below average though lenses are same on all three. dont know why
I agree with the first reply, the most important benefit of this phone is replaceable battery.
As this phone is over 2 years old, most buy it now because of custom rom possibilities, and be able to easily reverse is valuable for beginners of flashing.

I also bought this phone just a few months back due to it being cheap. There is about 4.6GB available for use for the 8gb rom.
The problem is without root you cannot put apps on the sd-card so that might be an issue if you plan on having a lot of apps and heavy games.
This phone is great, just that issue, the front camera ain't great but it's fine for me. Battery life is okay but can be greatly improved with root. Otherwise this phone is really good.
and, it MIGHT be able to upgrade to 5.0!,
I wish Sony had given 16GB internal memory to ZR also and at least 2MP front cam

Actually it will get lollipop update.Whole Z line will get android 5.0
Last news was that Z3,Z2,Z1 are getting it officialy in first part of february, so I guess Z,ZL and us will get it in the second part or march.
So looking at the note 10 designs it looks like its going to have the hole punch. ( which I dont like)
At the moment the note 9 8gb version is on sale at £649. Trade in of my 6gb version will get me £340.
Is it worth the £309 price difference to get the extra ram and storage and the hybrid sim version bearing in mind I'm going to stick with the note 9 until at least the note 11?
Not in my opinion, I doubt you'd notice the extra ram that much and you could buy an SD card for much cheaper if you really needed extra storage.

In my opinion, it depends on what you do with your phone...
Do you play heavy games or daily basis activities?
If only daily basis activities (Email, Gmail, Word, Excel, Facebook, Reddit, Telegram or others) then 6GB would be enough, my opinion only.

No, 6gb is enough
Save your money. Your existing note will be good until it dies. Companies keep adding minute changes to their "next flagships" to play with our minds to buy their new phones. They want your money is all it is. Keep your note 9. But it you have the extra cash then have at it.
I've had both and you absolutely cant tell a difference

Ram is random access memory and effects how many applications stay open in the background. If you're planning on running ten resource heavy games open at once maybe. Game performance would be much more heavily impacted by the GPU and CPU performance than by the amount of ram (which from 6 to 8gb would have no effect whatsoever I would guess). Unless you're planning on switching back and forth between two very intensive games I can't see why this would benefit you.
How about you instead tell me how it benefits game performance? Smart guy lol

The current industry of smartphone tech reminds me of the PC age. Not to mention, when ram levels started increasing and folks kept closing out their background apps to "get the device to be faster." I still chuckle at those days.?

Manufacturers are trying to get us back to wanting more megapixels yet again; they got us hating bezels because our phone started to be good enough to keep for more than a year; they got us obsessed with the amount of RAM there is in our phones and how the CPU benchmarks. I've got a Note 9 and a Mi Max 3 and I honestly could happily use either of them day-to-day. Manufacturers in all industries have a duty to make us want to crave things, and they do a good job of it. To answer the question though - no the OP should not upgrade unless they have money to burn as RAM will have absolutely no difference on gaming performance or day-to-day performance - it's just a psychological up-sell to get people to get the 512GB model. Also did you really say you'd be effectively selling your Note for £349??

Yes that is the trade in price.
After reading lots of posts (as well as this one) about the 2 different models I'm going to stick with what I've got. I have a 256 sd card so I have plenty of storage and as regards ram unless your doing a speed test side by side I dont think I'm going to notice. I'm probably going to stick a sim only sim in September when my contract ends and hold out with the 9 until i either break it or something revolutionary comes out. Which i doubt.
Another thing that i think the 9 has in its favour is the fact that it DOES have a forehead and chin as when watching videos you dont cover any of the screen where as with a real edge to edge like the s10 and most probably the note 10 i think it will be an issue let alone the pesky hole punch!
Thanks for all the replies

I sometimes use an older iPhone and I really do love the bezels as far as usability goes. All the newer phones lead to me catching UI elements - for example I'm a big YouTube watcher and the only phone I've used recently where I never accidently skip videos when moving my phone around is the iPhone. The other downside to bezels being removed is that phones really do all look pretty much the same now.

As for RAM, whatever anyone says, it has no bearing on actual application speed - all RAM does is hold applications in memory. Apps are flushed from memory according to space and the particular memory setup the manufacturer implements. Some manufacturers throw loads of RAM at their devices but their battery management is so brutal that it's almost worthless.
Google themselves think 4GB is enough, and cynicism aside, they do actually write the OS, which the manufacturers don't. If anyone knows how much RAM is necessary it's Google IMO. I can't think what would motivate them to think otherwise. Unless you have applications hogging loads of RAM, the worst you can expect with less RAM is that an application you had open a while back has to re-open again. With 6GB of RAM this should rarely be an issue, and many apps freeze their state anyway
Tend to agree that you likely wouldn't see much benefit with extra RAM and I certainly don't think extra 2Gb at a cost of £300 is good value.
That said I can see the appeal of 512Gb internal storage versus 128Gb
If you really want an 8Gb / 512Gb Note 9 then wait until Note 10 is on sale, I guarantee Note 9 price will fall significantly and the difference to upgrade to 8Gb / 512Gb Note 9 will likely be less expensive.

Monitor your memory usage. If you never approach 6GB utilization, then you'll never gain anything with an extra two GB. Have you filled 128 GB with content you couldn't put on a $50 SD card?
