[Q] Charging via Gigabyte On/Off Charge - Xperia Z3 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys!
Since the first day I got my Z3C, I've noticed that it won't charge while my PC is off. Which is a strange thing, since my motherboard (a GA-H87M-D3H) supports what Gigabyte calls "On/Off Charge". Basically, it allows current to flow through USB ports even when the system is off so that devices connected to said ports may charge. It's worked for all my devices (among others; Lumia 520, Xperia S, Nexus 7, Galaxy Fame and a DualShock 3 controller).
I've tried updating the drivers, but they're the exact version I have installed already, so it's not a driver issue. The phone works and charges as expected when the PC is turned on, including adb and fastboot. The supplied charger works, but is sadly not an option for charging the device while at home.
If it helps, I'm running Windows 8.1 w/ Ubuntu 14.04 (dual-boot config off different hard drives). AHCI enabled and all the Windows hibernation/fast boot cr*p disabled, of course (jotting this down here because Gigabyte says some xHCI settings in the BIOS may effect On/Off Charge). The issue doesn't seem to be OS-dependent though, and again, it's always worked for me ("always" here being about 11 months), even when I was using the old "Legacy" setting instead of AHCI, but this phone just refuses to use the current to charge.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Tytn II charging and usb problem?

Hi guys,
i have one very strange problem regarding TYTN II. It is almost new device, barely used but following things are happening:
1. Can not be charged while it is switched ON. In order to charge the battery i have to turn device OFF and than to connect it to the charger. Red light is instantly on and charging.
2. While it is ON and i connect it to the PC using USB cable, it is not recognized from operating system (it is not charging as well, it will charge though if i switch it OFF, same as with charger)
I can connect to my Tytn II using bluetooth and i have some questions.
Can i do HARDSPL 7 while conected to Tytn II via Bluetooth?
I want to upgrade my ROM using upgrade from SD card because obviously upgrade can not be performed using USB cable.
I did hard reset before i put this issue on the forum, can this be caused by the software or only hardware?
Thanks for input.
Jeremija
Check the settings->System->power. check whether the option "When device is turned on,do not charge the battery when connected to the pc" is selected. if so unselect it.
Already did that before first post, that option is not selected.
It is not only charging but TYTN II is not recognized while connected to the computer via usb cable.
this tytn ii is getting charged only and only if it is switched OFF, source can be computer or original charger.
I can get connected via bluetooth for data and my other question is if i can do HARDSPL 7 through bluetooth conection?
thanks.

If its vista system then you probably need to disable the advanced USb functionality and try again.
To your next question, i havent seen anything till now that talks about flashing through bluetooth.
it is happening on both, vista and xp.
that is interesting question actually. Did anyone tried to flash over bluetooth connection, without using cable?
I would certainly prefer to use cable but my tytn ii does not get recognized when connected with the cable.
thanks
What have you done on the PCs to prepare them first?
Have you installed the software in the box on your PC before connecting the USB cable (Activesync 4.5) for Win XP desktops or the latest Windows Mobile Device Centre for Windows Vista? You need these before it'll connect/sync even though it's possible to use bluetooth without it.
Yes, on XP is installed Active Sync 4.5 and on vista i am using is latest Windows mobile device center.
Did you try disabling Advanced Network Functionality on the phone?
So other than trying what was already suggested and disabling Advanced Network functionality on the phone, I think it's time to call your countries HTC Support people.
FWIW whether or not you can use Advanced Networking Functionality is determined by the capability of the USB ports on your desktop PC. When I first got my TyTN II I couldn't get it to connect/sync at all and through trial and experimentation I came across the disable advanced networking workaround. Even with it disabled though I still found my Activesync connections to be unreliable and subject to frequent disconnections. I was using the native (and old as the hills) Via Appolo Pro USB 1.1 ports on my motherboard. I decided to upgrade to USB 2.0 so installed a quality NEC chipped PCI USB 2.0 adapter card. That means I now can use Enhanced Networking Functionality and I have not had an Activesync connection fail since. It was well woth the £9 it cost me for the card.
Everything is clear, thank you very much for your replies and advices. I`ll try to find HTC authorized service and let them judge
Thanks once again.

Is WiFi on?
My Vodafone v1615 (Kaiser) will not connect over USB if WiFi is enabled. No connection problem when WiFi is disabled via Comm Manager. Suggest you try this.
I tried everything i could think of, with or without sim card, with flight mode on, with GSM on but wireless off, name combination i tried it. Gave the phone to the friend who has exactly same model to try with his battery and if that does not work than i`m out of ideas except to send it for service.
I also noticed that if i leave phone on charger and OFF, red light lit for charging.
It can sit on charger for 24 hours but light does not change color to green (Full battery) but remains red.
I believe there is a problem either with battery or some component which is tightly connected to the usb socket/battery.
Will post results on monday/tuesday when i get my phone back.
Thanks everyone for input.

Same Problem
Just so you know i have EXACTLEY the same problem as you Jeremija... i have NO idea what is Causing it have you had any glory yet??

Ben
Same problem as well
I just got my phone yesterday, and it had the same problem out of the box
it will not charge unless it's completely off, and it will not sync through a usb cable, when i connect it through USB it just keeps restarting, If anyone can come up with a solution short of returning my brand new phone back to the factory I would greatly appreciate it
USB charge & sync problem
What you have with your phones must be a hardware defect. I have the exact same problem with my Tytn II, but I know how it happened -- out of full stupidity. While at work, I connected it to a mini USB plug to charge, however to my surprise I found out that it was not 5v but 12v. I bought two external chargers and two extra batteries and I've been carrying around a pair of charged batteries since then. To be honest, because the phone notoriously drains the batteries very quickly having spare batteries is more practical than pluging it in and waiting for it to charge.

Question: USB Tethering [CM-4.2.5]

I have been fighting tooth and nail to get this to work.
My setup I'm currently working with is:
>>1 USB cable
>>HTC Dream with CyanogenMod 4.0.4 W/ Wifi tethering capabilities through Wifi Tethering for Root Users
>>HTC Dream with CyanogenMod 4.2.5 W/ USB tethering "capabilities". Couldn't get Wifi tethering to work with this phone. It just doesn't seem to want to work.
>>EeePC 4g Surf with an nLited XP 32bit Professional install With SP2 (Realtek is the worst about drivers, so instead of being able to streamline SP3 into my install, I had to use SP2 and still had to make the realtek drivers work! A known issue with it.) The nLited part shouldn't be a problem, but if it is, I'm sure it is an easy fix. ;D
Attempts to Resolve issues/issues:
1. I have installed HTC Sync.
2. Upon connecting the phone with the USB Tethering capabilities, I have a nice little exclamation mark (!) on the NDIS blablabla in Device Managers.
3. Attempting to install the drivers does not work, because it does not seem to be capable of finding the files even though they're there. Per http://code.google.com/p/android-wired-tether/wiki/FAQ .
4. Attempting to install the drivers from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=445436 does not work either. It just didn't see those drivers either.
5. Tried uninstalling the device and then rescanning. Still doesn't want to cooperate.
Why I want the phone with USB Tethering to work?:
My phone, which supports Wifi tethering, was used quite well for well over a month. This means the battery heated up to too high of temps too often and that means you lose a charge. Now imagine doing that every day, and near the end nearly 3-5 times every day. I'm surprised the battery even works as of now while posting.
Last night, I got the USB Tethering to work on a Windows 7 install on a laptop. Didn't have to do a thing. But I don't have 8GB+ of space for a Windows 7 install! Also, the laptop with Windows 7 on it isn't mine either. Not personalized and wasn't done for me. The phone, I'm just borrowing.
I hope I posted this in the right place. Someone such as myself can get lost in a gigantic forum like this. I have that newbie personality complex. (I pick up all coins/whatever currency used in every game, as much as possible for example.)
Wut do?
Update:
Tinkered with it some more.
Doing what I did makes XP stop screaming about a device that needs drivers when I connect it regularly for charging.
However, I noticed that in the troubleshooting section, it says "This Device Cannot Start."
Not sure what that means.
Nothing in the Event Viewer... Though XP's isn't the worlds greatest for verbosity.
Planning on taking some advice, that I should have already known about, and uninstalling all Android related devices and seeing what happens from there... Once my battery gets high enough to allow it to sit around with no USB cable attached. (I don't have the AC adapters anymore.)
Didn't work. Still same issue. But I freed up 200mb worth of space by uninstalling a boat load of drivers for USB devices using usbdeview.
Easy Tether Pro, $5.00 ? For usb, been using for a long while. Very simple and easy to use. On XP anyways.
Vista sucks, would never let me load the driver. I assume it would work with windows 7.

[Q] Can not connect to my PC

It has just stop working when a plug in my usb to my pc i do not get "Turn on USB storage" on my phone. No usb icon also. The computer does not recognize the phone.
I have try different cables, computers and OS. Also did a factory resat and putt on debuging mode on and off. Also multiple restarts with no luck. I use stock rom.
Are my phone broken?
It's probably the usb ports though you have tried with other computers ;/
or the micro-usb port of your device

I had the same problem and I believe it is a phone issue. I tried reinstalling drivers, different USB ports on different machines, factory resets, different cables etc. At times when plugged in the phone would suddenly wake up and acknowledge the USB connection while at others it just started charging when plugged in to USB.
What confirms that this is a phone problem rather than a PC problem is that when I connect it to my office workstation that runs on Sun Solaris, it behaves pretty much the same, acknowledging the connection randomly. My HTC Magic on the other hand always connected to both home PCs and office workstation without any issues every time.
Finally I have returned my handset and asked for a replacement.

Good luck. It's a pity though as otherwise my handset worked perfectly with no reboots lags etc. I hope the replacement comes in soon and is bug free too.
I have the same issue with my macbook. Since yesterday my o2x isn't recognized by my mac.
I know it is not the usb cable, or the (micro)usb port, because when i plug the phone in at night my alarm clock on the o2x fires up (as it should).
So a connection is made, it just doesn't show "turn on usb storage" on my o2x. And i cannot understand why.
I am on the 0606 baseband, with the new FR19 ROM from Paul O'brien's Modaco (which is excellent btw).
If anyone has a solution, please let me kno
I have the same problem with my phone under modaco fr19, baseband + ril 606.
My pc is under windows vista and the drivers are installed correctly.
Awala
Update:
I received a replacement handset which was V10D 20110405 out of the box. No issues with USB connection.
Just out of interest, did any of you leave the phone connected to USB for a long time before it started failing? I used to leave it charging via USB all day at work so just wondering if there is a connection...
Update:
I earlier stated that my O2X wouldn't connect to my macbook. Yesterday I connected the O2X while on the Windows Vista partition of my mac, and it connected without any problem. After that, rebooted to Mac OSX partition, and no problem there. So I am a bit puzzeled about why, but it seems to work again.
In reaction to mparack's question, i sometimes let it load overnight via usb cable. But not a lot. I do not think that was the cause. I thought it was caused by flashing the 0606 baseband, but now I do not think that was the culprit.
Got back my phone from Telia on Wednesday. Everything worked fine. And I upgraded the phone using the LG update (Basbandversion: 1035.21_20110622) LGE version LGP990-V10c). After that the same problem! It feels like it's a bug in the software. Then they have changed the mainborad and it sounds unlikely that the new one is defective to.Goning back to Telia on Monday if they know about a bug or if you can get a new phone.
Those of you who have had the same problem what version do you have? Can I downgrade phone in anyway?

[SOLVED] Charging but not recognized by the PC

Hi,
I connected my note 5 to my laptop today, and surprise surprise, it is no longer recognized by the PC (though it charges). It used to be fine, I don't know what changed!
I tried different cables, different USB ports and different laptops
I tried to plug it in normal mode, safe mode, recovery mode and download mode
I tried switching USB debugging on/off
I tried the *#0808# menu, and I tried MTP+ADB and CP options
I uninstalled drivers from the PC and installed the latest from the samsung website
I tried both kies and smart switch
nothing worked! I am not doing a factory reset because I have seen many people do it for other devices and none of them solved it this way! I'm waiting for the Marshmallow update, maybe it will fix this annoying issue. Meanwhile do you have any other ideas guys?

hi,
you don't say what Laptop o/s you using on laptop.?
Windows 10, Windows 8.1 Windows 8 or Windows 7...... or Apple o/s.?
Briefly my take is on this is, most probably the laptop and not phone.?
(Yes, i might be wrong of course.)
My reason is, i have Windows 10 laptop
and sometimes / a few time, ) my
laptop does not recognize my Note5
Yes, , it charges phone (just like yours) but does not recognize phone.!
I then have to re install drivers for phone I use Smart Switch to re install drivers.
Then it works ok for a while etc..
Why don't you test phone on someone else's pc or laptop to make sure.?
Overall my Note5 is mostly recognized by laptop
Good luck

hi ,
why i still think its laptop /pc drivers related.
(But yes ,i might be completely wrong ..?)
i have laptop win 10 x64 also.
The issue is of laptop, not always recognizing a device /similar as yours ,but charging device .
Other devices, when trying to connect to laptop (,not just my Note5 ),( from time to time) eg Note 2,..3 ..4 , USB flashstick ..my Polar M400 running watch etc .Device is not recognized but charging .
So for me,
its just not Note 5 but other devices also (.from time to time) .
My "take " on this issue is that it points between drivers (pc ,laptop) //// relevant devices eg Note 5 ..etc . and not just the firmware issue of Note 5 ,??
but yes, as stated i might be wrong .
good luck
Post note ,
i have to add reinstalling drivers "sometimes " help " ,
but it happens again, later. ( not recognizing device )
So i am pointing fingers, at Windows o/s + the "company/maker " of laptop ..pc and + devices .The compatibility between all three above ,combined and yes i had similar issues ( from time to time with Win 8 ../Win 8.1 etc ).
Yet, i have also found that certain of my devices
that work nearly 100% of time on my laptop !,
which indicates to me, the compatibility of devices between device /laptop ,is very good ..??
I have a note 2 and it works every time when I plug it to either pc. My laptop is lenovo with all the latest drivers. Hopefully, marshmallow will address this issue because otherwise, this means that I can't root my device.

Pull down notification menu while phone is plugged in and there should be a option for changing from charge mode to mtp and such. Just pull down notification and tap on the biodiversity that's lasted.

hi ,
strange ,
just for the record i also have a Lenovo Flex 2 laptop ( x64 ) Win 10 .!!!
i have rooted all my devices on Lenovo laptop ( Note 2, Note 3 , Note 4 and my Note 8.0 tablet etc )
Yet , i am at moment not interested in rooting my Note5 ( i have it already a couple of months )
I am happy keeping myself busy with Theme store ,tweaks/beta apps and lately with the interesting Lockmaster app( Play store ) for lockscreen ... etc .
If i get the root "urge " i pick up my other rooted devices and use them .or /update or/ install root only tweaks/apps etc. for my rooted devices .!!
i hope Marshmallow fixes your issues .!!
good luck

Edit: Never mind that. I see what you mean. That's odd it's not there for you. It definitely sounds like a PC issue. You can try completely removing all Samsung drivers and start over. Just using the Uninstaller will not cut it though. You'll have to do a system level cleaning of all samsung drivers.

The issue is not with your device. It's because of Windows. Is there another computer that you can use to connect your device to that you have never connected to before? Also make sure that you are using either the cable that came with your device, or at least a good quality cable. I've had that issue occur in the past because I was using a cheap cable.

I did plug it in my brother's laptop but no dice. I tried the OEM cable and an Asus cable on USB 2 and 3 ports, it did not work on either pc. How can I completely uninstall samsung drivers?
For users having the same issue, I found a solution (which also fixes all charging issues by the way).
If you look at the charging port, you will see a "tongue" where the pins connect. We all know that fast charging requires 5 pins not 4. The OEM cable comes with 5 as you all know. However, I found the OEM cable to be very fragile and not reliable, one pin tends to get bent without much pressure. This leads to the "tongue" going down somehow. The fix is to get the "tongue" up a bit, use a toothpick or something that does not conduct power. As for the cable, I suggest you use an Asus cable (I have 3 of those, 2 from my nexus 7s and 1 from my Zenwatch). Asus cables come with 5 pins and they are sturdier than Samsung's and they are a bit longer as well. Now the phone charges properly, fast charging and all and the computer recognizes it once again.
Hope this helps you too

I'm having this same problem these same problems. Other then I'm not able to get it to recognize even after doing everything that was said to do in this thread.
I feel like I'm missing a file? I was messing with them and just may think that could be my problem. is there anything else that has not been said in this thread I could do to fix this problem? When connected to my computer it recognize it as a charger. I can't access my files from my computer to my phone.
any help would be very helpful! Thanks!
I'm having the exact same problem but now I tried to use Flashify to go back to original recovery instead of TWRP & now by recovery or boot IMG is screwed so it wont even boot to recovery..
It boots only to download mode & is not recognized by any PC we have, with every cable I've tried.. uhhgggggg
I was having the same issue. Here is what solved it for me:
• Disconnect the usb cable.
• Go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Troubleshooting\Hardware and Sound
o Go down to device / hardware and devices – click on that
o Follow instructions to correct issues. This found I needed a bus device driver update.
o Let it update and once done go out.
• On PC - Go to Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center\Advanced sharing settings - go down until you get to the part that says "All Networks" ...expand the list by clicking on the arrow to the right. In this area you will see "Media Streaming" There should be an area highlighted in blue that says "Choose media streaming options" click on that. Make sure you "allow all" . Once that is done, click "ok" at the bottom. Plug your device into the usb and it should be recognized. Seems a recent Windows update has that filter off.
• Now, restart your computer.
• Use original usb cord that came with phone! Plug in phone then plug in usb to computer.
• It should recognize your device now.
I now have to restart computer every time I want to connect my device but it works.
Hi I am having that same problem with my note 4. It doesn't seem to be a pc problem as no pc at all none Nada recognizes the phone. Windows 7 to Windows 10. None. Used 2 workmates of mine who also have note 4s on my laptop and all the laptops i used i used their phine on itand they worked so blaming the pc seems to be out of the equation..your solution and all those settings have been untouched as it has all devices allowed ..... tried cleaning the connectors and also different oem cables to no avail ..The only thing I have not done is change the logic board
Hi I hope somebody can help me. I am having exactly the same issue. though I don't think its PC or Laptop problem. I have two Note 5 the other one is working just fine, while the other Note 5 that was just charging was connected I noticed that running *#0808# I can select AP and CP but MTP+ADP was not selected and if I try selecting the radio button I will be able to but after pressing Ok or Reboot it back to no selection at all. Which I observe on my other Note 5 that was working its always selected every time I run *#0808#.
One more thing noticed is that on the Note 5 that was not working I boot it download (ODIN) mode and connect back to USB of my PC and Laptop, I hear a sound (the typical sound in windows once you connect any USB device) though I cannot access it I am positive that my USB port on both device are in good condition and since it was detected in windows through ODIN boot mode I was under the impression that its a phone software/firmware related. Can somebody help me on this one? thanks

WOW!! G Live dropped back to 42N (it sucks)

Not much support here anymore; watch too damn old. But IMHO it's still a goody.
Anyhow I somehow got mine flashed back to 42N (android 4.4, I think). The thing is that bluetooth does not work at all on that version, so can't set the watch up with the phone.
Can boot into fastboot/downloader mode but when I do, my computer doesn't "see" the device.
Adb/fastboot both working fine on another unit (LG V20). I'm completely stumped.
RootJunky (TomSgt) or Adam Outler, I know you both did quite a bit with this watch early on. So PLEASE help.
Boowho??
Slightly old thread, but when "doesn't see the device", does your computer make the hardware connect/disconnect sound?
Have you tried a different USB cable? Some micro USB cables do not carry data and are only for charging.
If it's not a charge-only cable, check Device Manager and see if anything new appears in there. It could be the fastboot or ADB drivers are not installed.
