Moto X Standby Time Discussion - X 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So since I have updated to the 11 release my battery life has been decent from the perspective of SOT. However, the Standby time on the Moto X is horrendous.
I went to bed with a full charge around 3:30am and when I picked it up at 10am I was down to 77%. What gives? When I checked the battery the phone seems to be consistently waking up.
Part of me feels it is the Moto Display causing the issues as that thing tends to light up all the time for no reason, but the am going to go through and test stuff as this Standby time is not acceptable.

Terry thrumming off data before sleeping

Look at your signal too. Try turning off lte at night.

I used to have that issue with the screen. So now I use "good night" mode and the phone doesn't wake up any more

You got something waking it up constantly.
Moto display won't cause that. I uses a separate processor

[Q] Specific Battery Question

I have noticed significant battery drain lately. When I first started using the Moto X I was getting 24-30 hours easily with moderate use. Generally I will only have 1-2 hours of screen time. Now with the same usage I am only getting 12-15. I have noticed that Android Kernal is the main offender, but don't know what that is.
Not Rooted
Screen brightness 50%-60%
Notifications turned off on all apps
Don't even have that many apps that I use
No gaming
I have attached screen shots from Gsam:
Battery Monitor
Screen Detail
App Sucker
kernal
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Take a look at your wakelocks, time held awake, and times waking device. Also, are you in a weak signal area? Where I work I get crap reception, and my battery life sucks along with it.

[Q] Unusually High Battery Drain While Idle?

Hey guys,
I just got my Moto X 2014 last Monday and have noticed the battery life kinda sucks, so I've been monitoring it and my cellular radio and WiFi are using quite a bit of battery and I'm also getting some wakelocks that i cant find the source of (as being on lollipop and not being rooted).
I am almost always around WiFi and have excellent signal (3+bars) all the time and have all the same apps I've had installed on my galaxy nexus (witch the battery graph would actually flat line and have no wake locks) so I cant see any one of my apps being a problem for the battery drain of 10-15% over night with Moto Display turned off (as not to wakelock me haha).
Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love this phone but i expected a bit better idle time than this.
Anyone out there have any idea what could be causing this?
Thanks,
McDuff

I've been on lollipop on my PE for a while now and had horrible standby time. Google play services was always shown as the highest consumer of battery. I finally decided to clear cache from recovery and now my standby times have improved dramatically, about 1% drop per hour or so. Not sure what the problem was as I did factory reset after updating to lollipop via ota.
Considering the phone is always listening, 1% per hour is ok. I get around this with a good signal. I just think that battery drain while the phone is being used is very high. It drains 1% each 3,6 minutes while playing a video from the internal memory with sound on 50% and brightness on 25%.

Welcome to lollipop. Enough said. Lollipop has severe battery issues and at the moment there is no fix as far as i can see or have tried.
I found that disabling moto voice reduced my overnight drain from 1% to 0.5% per hour which is very reasonable considering I have moto display enabled and it gets activated a lot during the night (I have a springy bed lol). Since moto voice on lollipop is not that good anyway I don't miss it too much. This also proves that moto display has negligible impact on battery life.

You can also make it so your moto display won't come online during sleep time, just saying.

Cell standby on marshmallow

I've been running marshmallow since the stock images were posted and I always got very nice battery life with doze. As in, I wouldn't have to charge the phone until the next morning. Since last week, however, cell standby is using significantly more battery. Yesterday, I took the device off the charger at 0900, and by 2100 I was already at 25% battery. Screen on time was only 2 hours, and cell standby had more usage than the screen. No matter my signal quality, it seems cell standby is eating my battery. Phone isn't even showing as awake! I also am always connected to WiFi and using T-Mobile WiFi calling.
I know a few users have reported a similar issue since marshmallow, does anyone have an idea of why cell standby is killing battery even though time without signal is 0? Time active is also always under 20 min. Since I'm using WiFi calling, I'd think the phone wouldn't even be searching for a voice signal anyway.
My signal has been worse than abysmal since switching to Marshmallow. I uninstalled Fit, Pay, and Google+ and it got better strangely enough but i still have issues from time to time...

The same happened to me, at the begining with marshmallow (chroma and francokernel) always more than 5h SOT and easy deep sleep... but now, the last night at 1:00AM battery was at 100%, at 5:00AM was 84%... and no wakeloks... i'll take some screenshots
Same here. I swear the battery is draining faster but no wakelock issues.
Plus I believe there is an issue with the signal reporting. Where I know that I get full signal the phone can report zero bars. Switch to airplane mode and back, then suddenly the signal displays correctly!
+1 My signal is terrible anymore, and I certainly was much better on the preview images
At my desk at work, same spot I sit my phone everyday would be in the mid 80s and right now it sits at -103....hit airplane mode and it resets....for a few

I'm having the same issues. Overall, pretty solid battery life but cell standby drainage was high. Been searching forums with no such luck. Sounds like it might just be and Android issue I have to hope gets fixed in an update? I'm using T-Mobile wi-fi calling. I'm in areas with strong LTE signal, but compared to my old phone, the amount of "bars" I'm seeing seem lower and sometimes non existent, although I spent no time without signal.

Moto X 2014 Battery Issues (6.0)

Hi all,
I would like to talk about my battery. I have never gotten above 2 and a half hours of screen on time, not even on lollipop and I'm on marshmallow now. I feel like doze does not really work because the battery drains at night by over 20 percent just idling. Also, my battery chart shows 3 hours left at 85%. I noticed that Android System was usually at the top of the list of things using the battery the most. Does anyone have a fix for this situation? I only got the phone last summer and believe that battery life should be way better than this.

Little worried battery life

First day after 8 hours I am at 49%
My last watch would last me all day and I end the day at 49%
I like dark watch faces, first day did not charge the default brightness.
I like to have an ambient watch face (I do not want to press a button to get time) last watch kept ambient watch face on.
Two questions,
Can it last a day (a day for me is 16hours) ?
What settings do you use ?
This is very annoying 3 years and android wear devices I am still concerned I can not make if from when I remove it from a charger at 6am to when I can charge it again sometimes 2 or 3am the following day.
Mine goes from 5:30 am to 9:30pm and still has about 40% charge left.
With screen off mode I usually end the day at around 48% 6:30 to 8:00
Try turning auto brightness off. It works for me.
Two suggestion:
- Always ON / Ambience Display + disable tilt to wake
- Disable Always On + Enable tilt to wake
It will last you more than 24 hours.
One last suggestion: Enable Always ON + Enable Tilt to Wake + Auto Brightness, but you use long sleeve shirt.
So when it was unintentionally awake because of your hand movement, auto brightness will keep brightness at minimum because it is inside your sleeve (dark).
Recently switched Always ON off
and more significantly Tilt to Wake off
Getting 4 DAYS battery life
(Projected, currently at 30 hrs)
Turn WiFi off as well. That drains a ton.

Yeah you really don't need always on and tilt to wake on.
I had this issue as well; watch draining really fast, wouldn't even last a day. I tried a number of things and I found out what works for me. Some will say turn off Wifi, others will say turn off Gestures. I did both of those, but they did not really amount to any great savings.
I reset my phone a couple days back and was forced to do the same to the watch. Once I was back up and all connected, I went into Android Wear app on my phone, pressed the gear (settings), clicked on my Asus ZenWatch 3 name, and ONLY turned off "Tilt to wake Screen". I left ALL OTHER settings alone. THIS my friend is what did it for me. As I type this, it's 2:40 p.m. my time (AST). I unplugged my watch this morning at 6:25 a.m. and I'm currently sitting at 70% battery power on my watch.
I look at it frequently, do voice commands, change watchfaces, install new ones, etc... from this morning till now. Oh...I leave the "always on" alone too. The watchfaces do their ambient faces and I love it. Best watch I ever had. I hope this helps someone.
Not surprising that the watches are a lot like the phones. The same model/year phone can have greatly different battery life with similar uses. Since owning my first smartphone, the first and original Droid, rooting and altering widgets and such, I've always had an issue with battery life. I'd have a dead phone by 1pm with normal to low use, while a friend with the same phone plays with it and gets 3 days.
The watches seem to be the same, and I think I play with mine more than normal, yet am happy with the battery life. I joke with the wife that we both have "charging issues" in that she can't remember to charge her device (phone) and I constantly have to be plenty charged and have charging capabilities wherever I will be. With a quick 10 minute charge in the afternoon or evening (if that at all) I can use and play with the watch all day, sleep with it on to track sleep quality, and I charge it when I get up to shower and my normal bathroom morning routine. This gets it back to 100%.
Although happy with it, I've been adjusting my settings based on usage, and not with a high PITA ratio. Always On set to off, tilt to wake on, and screen on for 10-15 seconds. But I have often thought that the tilt to wake was using battery unnecessarily as my work alone has me moving my arm around all the time. I'm going to try the settings above and see if there's an improvement. It makes sense turning off the Tilt To Wake, and will see if the savings is more than the usage from turning the ambient back on.
I bought this to replace a broken LG G watch R, so far after using it for a week it seems to have half the battery life with the same settings / use
