[Q] How to change default voice - X 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I've just got my moto x and I've been playing a bit with moto voice.
I've been wondering if there's a way if changing the default voice output.
Right now I changed the phone voice language to ENGLISH uk and I got a nice female voice. Is there a way to get a Male UK voice now days? I read the Google removed the high quality voice packs so I'm not sure if it's possible.
My device is not rooted yet but it will be, so if the solution requires a root that's not a problem =)
Thanks guys!

@TokedUp Just change phone language to english UK, you will get a female uk voice that way.
@hdtechk , first of all thanks now I did what you said but it didn't solve my issuse, I can get a male UK voice but still when I ask the phone questions that make him use google now/search I get the default female voice.
For example if I ask my phone what time it is ill get the female voice (since it needs to go into google.)
Any idea if there is a way to change that?
Thanks

Microphone Problems

Has anyone had any issues with the microphones not working? When using Google Now or Voice Search, it says to speak now but doesn't recognize that I have spoken. It also doesn't show grey in the circle around the microphone button when I talk.
Also tried a factory reset which didn't help.
I'm pretty sure i heard something about having to go into language and input settings and download the voice recognition engine for any specific language
I had this exact problem, but then it told me a system update was available, I ran that, reinstalled, and it worked fine. Not sure if they were related, but it definitely existed and then was fixed.
I checked in Language & input > Voice Search and I think you are talking about the option to Download offline speech recognition. You can download lots of different languages if you want. I checked and English was already installed and the default Language was set to English (US).
I also checked for updates to the OS. Running Android version 4.1.1 Build Number JRO03D.
Unfortunately, the problem is still occurring.
Just called Google. They are replacing my nexus 7 for this issue. Luckily the do advance exchange so I won't be without my sweet new toy while they ship the new one.
None here

Nexus 7 I bought from Staples.com had the same mic issue (mic stopped working like OP). I called their Customer Service and they said they will pick up my defected unit and drop off replacement unit tomorrow.

Orange WiFi Calling Settings

Hi guys,
Unfortunately, the area i live in has incredibly bad signal for all networks and back with my HTC sensation i used to have a orange signal boost app which enabled me to use something called UNA to make and receive calls through my home WiFi.
Since moving to my lovely new One, I dont have this option. I havent even bothered to get on the phone to Orange as they prove to be useless every time.
After doing a bit of research and playing with my phone, I found out about the Internet Calls within settings but it needs account settings.
Like with the 3g settings, are there some generic orange settings someone would be able to tell me that will enable me to use this feature?
Any help would be greatly received!
Thanks,

The Internet Call feature is for those with accounts with the likes of sipgate. You can make free calls to other SIP numbers but will need to buy credit when dialing normal numbers.

Bugger! Thanks for the reply.
Doesnt look like its happening then!
Do you happen to know if the tmobile wifi calling apk is anywhere available. I've had a search and cant seem to find it. I ask as that seems to be available on the one and TMobile kinda the same as Orange as both owned by EE and I just thought id try a punt at the app also working on orange.

Is this what your referring to?
A quick Google search threw up lots of possible links.

Yeah that's the one, but sorry, i should have been a bit more specific, I meant the apk off a one as it seems to be shipped with the one tmobile branded versions so I figured I would have the best chance with that version.
I'm bumping this thread to see if there are any solutions for this a few months on. I also live in a poor area for reception with Orange / EE, but I do have a decent net connection and WiFi. To make matters worse, I get an equally poor signal at work and constantly have to move my phone around to pick up texts.
The EE website has the following information for those unfamiliar, but the feature isn't currently supported in any ROMs I have tried:
http://help.ee.co.uk/system/selfser...RTICLE&ARTICLE_ID=1187596&CUSTOM_BRAND=Orange
Despite this sounding like a fantastic feature, I can barely find any information on the forums or through Google.

[Q] Hands free answering calls?

I know Moto X has been advertised as being able to do so many things hands free, but I can't seem to figure out if its possible to answer calls hands free, and then automatically turn on speaker phone.
There may be apps that can do this, but I assumed it would be possible by default on the X. It'd be nice to be able to use the home dock and answer calls without having to touch the phone at all.

Yes as far I have heard about MOTO X functionality it has the feature to answer the call with voice , without any touch experience...but that voice apllication does not work out actively or properly in a crowded area...but this is quite interesting one and will surely sell MOTO X at carrier
Still a cool feature

Do you happen to know what the command for it would be lol, I can't seem to say anything that will actually answer the phone.
I had never heard I could answer my phone without touching it.
You can answer calls and have it speak back text messages with voice when in driving mode, I'm still trying to figure out how to enable driving mode while not driving.

moto assist problem

Hi guys, so moto assist used to tell me who was calling either by saying the contact name or telling me the number.
Now the ringtone sounds for just a second and the phone goes silent and the notificaction bar silent icon suddenly appears.
What can I do? "I have the talk to me" option checked and also tried clearing the data from the app itself.
I think the problem may be due to my girlfriend changing the language on the phone and re programming the touchless control to hr voice in spanish, wich I later changed back to my voice and system language to english...
Thanks in advance!

Just a shot in the dark here, but did you check that your notification volume was up. It could be off/too low and that might cause the problem. If that's not it, you may need to do a full reset to fix it. Good luck!
Not quite the same but when I flashed a different Moto-X update and my phone became American but even after settings everything back to UK non of the Moto specific options would work or work properly
Flashed back to a Brittish update and everything started working so I would consider doing a factory reset and starting over again
I did a full whipe and reset of the phone and checked the sound levels with no luck.
Then I noticed when placing a call my phone says "llamando" which is spanish for "Calling" and everything myphone read to me was in english but awkwardly spoken, as if a spanish person would be reading, hahahaha. So, thats was the second clear clue.
Then I went to languages and inputs and checked "text to speech output", then, "motorola tts" and it offered me only spanish and portuguese languages.
It seems that the OTA update to android 4.4.3 had only those options, maybe because OTA detected my latin amaerican carrier (movistar, Chile).
What I don't know for sure is if before, when moto assist worked just fine with 4.4.2, was by default in english.
Is there a way to add languages to motorola tts? Any stock motorola rom from another country that would work just fine with my XT1058 that surely would use english TTS?
Issues since August 20 update
I've been having issues since the August 20 update of Motorola Assist and it looks like some reviewers in the Play Store are as well. Nothing of mine had changed, clearing etc doesn't seem to have any effect, same with uninstalling updates and re-updating.
I am pretty sure, in my case at least, the problem is on the motorola tts language option.
I need some feedback on a rom that is fully supported for my xt1058 and is kind of stock motorola. I have this phone so recently that I haven't had time enough to investigate if custom roms take away the touchless control, active display, etc. works on them.
Please help me with that

Screen off - Ok Google OR Moto Voice ?

Hi all
I am running lollipop and was wondering if I should use the moto custom voice to wake device with screen off, or use the one built into lollipop in Google now.
Is one better than the other ?
Besides being able to use a custom phrase on moto voice ?
I remember reading somewhere that the Google works better cuz its direct.
Any feedback would be much appreciated
Thanks and have a great weekend

Try them both, pick which one you like better.
Google Now can't wake your device unless it is charging.
Only Moto voice will work with the screen off of its not charging.

That's not correct. Lollipop has it built into the OS. Check under google now / settings and voice (voice detection). It's there. Screen off as well. And I think it works better than the moto x one after testing.
I'm well aware of it supposedly being built into lollipop. But it doesn't work with the screen off on the moto X unless its being charged. I've disabled moto voice, enabled google now voice detection from any screen and turned the screen off. Said "OK Google" nothing happens. There have been a few of us here that have tried it and it doesn't work. It does work, though, when it's being charged. If you're able to get it to work please let us know how you did it because I would rather use Google now.
My Google settings on CM 12. Does not work unless plugged in for me.
Haha my bad. I also have a nexus 6 so when I went to my moto X I assumed that it was the same. And I guess I tested it with the screen on. And alas, upon trying it, you are right. It doesn't work when the screen is off. Oops
This thread is close to the question I was researching but my question is more generic. I just got my new MotoX a couple days ago and I'm confused, what is the difference between Google Now or the Moto Voice apps? My old phone was a MotoX 2013 so I'm used to using Google Now for everything, now my new X seems to have two apps that do the same thing? What's the deal?

Moto Voice can wake up your phone, which Google Now cannot. Moto Voice can read your your new notifications (either on command, or during a set period of time), Google Now cannot. Most other voice commands are heard by Moto Voice, and then passed over to Google Now. The two don't really overlap in their abilities. They work together to give you the best of both worlds.
