Hi. I have read all the guides. Installed flashtool 0.9.18.4 and all drivers in the flashtool drivers application. Flashtool will detect my device but when I try to flash something it will say I need to install drivers. I can't downgrade. I can't install recovery. I can't root. I am using c6903 on 14.4.A.0.133 Build number. This was a stock update and device has never been rooted. I need to downgrade to root but I can't. This is what I am getting in flashtool.
ERROR - (MainSWT.java:127) - Drivers need to be installed for connected device.
ERROR - (MainSWT.java:128) - You can find them in the drivers folder of Flashtool.

Well, usually when you have pc companion installed and you plug in your phone for the very first time with usb debugging enabled, all the necessary drivers are installed automatically. However if that's not what has happened with you, follow this guide http://visualgdb.com/tutorials/android/usbdebug/. If it works out for you then good otherwise then follow this one http://visualgdb.com/tutorials/android/usbdebug/manualinstall.php hope it helps

No,
You can always use flashtool to flash a stock ftf no matter on root status. Read the thread.
There are several threads on how to root 195 firmware.
Root access is not automatic, xperia phones do not come rooted, you have to do it yourself
I know how it al works, with the x10.
Now i have a Xperia T but cant find the drivers.
Flashtool is asking about the drivers, and i did install al of them.
But there is no T drivers.
Isn't there a tutorial or something what i can read about.

yes, but not directly, there are plenty of guides in the general section.
It basically involves downgrading to 303, rooting and then doing an OTA update to 195.

Install both Flashtoll driver and TX driver was fine for me (done with 0.9.8.0 version).
Something else I've discovered (since I re-flashed stock firmware again today on a different PC) is that the phone drivers often don't initialise in time if using latest Windows OS (Win 7 in my case) since the PC looks online for drivers before trying the installed ones.
Clicking the new hardware wizard icon and skipping the Windows Update drivers check got the phone recognised.
If I helped hit thanks!

Hey guys,
I have been trying to root my Xperia Z (10.3.1.A.2.67) for the past three hours now with no success..
I followed this guide: www android gs/root-xperia-z-stock-10-3-1-a-0-2442-67-firmware/ and am now stuck at step 3 of the actual rooting (not the preparation). I cannot seem to find how I can flash the custom kernel to my phone using Emma.
I have googled around for a while and found that I can add services to Emma using the tools menu, too bad I don't have one: prntscr com/23psmy
I would love to root my phone or at least get my own kernel thingy back D:

I have, and it does NOT work, tried every windows version in there, not a single one worked. Tried restarting, safe mode, compatibility mode, admin mode and restarting again. It's been way too long now and I'm just giving up. This went so much easier with my S3...
I'll try again tomorrow if I feel like it but if I have to go through all this freaking trouble I don't think it'll be worth it..
Can anyone please help my with this? Because I don't want to have a reset phone that hasn't even been rooted..
Download it again and check the MD5 of the file you downloaded. As a quick check, the file should be around 112MB.
Something is definitely wrong, as there are many people using Flashtool on Windows 8 without issues and it is definitely not a 16 bit application (32 and 64 bit executables are installed).

Can't see any errors. Looks like a clean kernel flash.
What's exactly the error? You lacking wifi? Are you using a custom kernel like DooMLord's?
For wifi to work on Doom's kernel you have to flash the kernel.zip from recovery.

I also don't see any errors. Don't worry about wifi not working. You should only be running with the old kernel long enough to root, so it doesn't matter.
Root using DooMLoRD's script, flash your original kernel back and you're done.

Pretty sure its the same process as for the 67 firmware. Check out the instructions on one of the custom roms thats 74 based (eg existenz) the first section of the directions (aka flash base firmware, flash known working rootable kernel, root, then flash back the kernel from the first firmware or the one provided by the rom developer is essentially just directions to root your phone and install recovery prior to actually installing their rom.

Just to check - you extract flashtool to c:/flashtool. Then install the adb drivers from c:/flashtool/drivers, then choose the model phone from the list, you can install drivers for as many phones as you want there. Make sure you have admin priveleges in windows, or right click-run as admin. Also make sure your windows system folder isnt set to read only. If you are using windows 8 check out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2095087 or similar threads, the drivers may either not install, or seem to but wont see your phone.

Which needs unlocked bootloader, correct?
Which additional drivers need to be installed?
Is there a way to downgrade with locked bootloader? I am actually ok with the function of .199 but not with it's tons of bloat, and no way to install certain apps. No root is almost like having no sex ever.

Of course yes, flashtool is both for locked and unlocked bootloaders! The drivers I always install is something called "Gordon Gate driver", the FlashTool itself and this is enough for the phone to be recognized while plugging. Be sure to plug in the phone one time in flash mode before the final flashing so that the PC recognizes it and installs drivers, after that unplug it for a while and turn it off again because it will probably turn on, it always happens in my case when I plug the phone for the first time after f.e. installing a brand new OS and not every drivers are installed. Then run FlashTool and you can start the magic!
But, you can always disable certain apps in Settings>Apps>All. You will be actually freezing them (just like with titanium backup) but it's pretty useful. Aaaaand there are two ways of flashing recovery on locked bootloaders so that you can i.e. flash SuperSU .zip file with the app and appropriate binaries (you can find it on its dedicated thread here on XDA), that's what I'm always doing.
My phone is T. Xperia T.

Ok, I have still a notebook somewhere in the corner running XP. I'll see what this one can do. If I can downgrade to 4.12, then I can rrooooot that one. At least I would not feel so naked and vulnerable anymore.
Can Flashtool make a mirror or image of the current ROM?
And thanks bunches for your helpful answer!
Here are the rough steps to downgrade:
- use a PC which runs Windump XP or 7
- install Flashtool
- install drivers (in the Flashtool drivers folder)
- download a 4.12 FTF of your choice. Nordic and Singapore seem pretty good.
- switch phone to USB debugging
- open Flashtool, click on the flash symbol and chose flashmode, follow the instructions, don't disable any of the flashing options
- after successful installation root with DooMLoRD_Easy-Rooting-Toolkit_v17_perf-event-exploit
- after successful rooting update SuperSu
- install recovery CWM4XperiaT_v8i_JB
From here you can install a rooted 4.3 if you can live with it's shortcomings, or any 4.2. I choose Pure-X-Blaster 4.2.2.
Been trying to root my Z3 compact (D5803) 23.4.A.1.264, can't officially unlock bootloader so trying to downgrade to 23.0.A.2.93, followed instructions for flashtool at least 20 times but can't seem to do it.. Easy way to root 23.4.A.1.264 --> Kingroot 4.82 (downloadable here)
Then when you have root, you can flash Nut's Xperia dual recovery connecting your Z3C to your PC:
