I Have the at&t mega original and the bootloader has been locked by request of at&t.
not sure if the at&t version of the nexus 6 is.
I may buy the at&t if is not.

All Nexus devices have a locked bootloader. You can esasily unlock it, any version of it, via fastboot oem unlock (or use a toolkit)

Thanks, on the Samsung Devices on AT&T they are requesting Samsung to lock the bootloader and that is why I will never go back to Samsung unless someone discover a way to unlock it.
Nexus 6 will be my next phone in a couple of weeks :cyclops::fingers-crossed::good::laugh::silly:

Hey, Caguas. As you know, I also had the Mega and had the same reservations, but let me assure you that the N6 is wide open!!!! The only thing ATT is the splash screen and a small logo on the rear.
The splash screen can easily be removed.

I was assuming you meant locked and not able to get in at all. Like the rest said you can easily unlock it. Only difference between this and the one from the play store is the boot logo/ and logo on back. You can get the Sim unlocked too but I'd research that I've seen people complaining about some of the unlock services.

Yea I removed the logo on back and initially removed the OEM folder which has the boot logo and sound but I eventually flashed the stock image when trying to go back to stock for the update. I got the update and don't have the OEM folder at all now. All is good. [emoji106]

[Q] AT&T or T-mobile Variant?

I'm torn between purchasing an AT&T Note 3 or a T-Mobile one. I know the AT&T Note 3 bootloader will be locked and I will most likely have to wait for it to be unlocked and rooted if that is even possible since there is no one who has tried yet. The T-Mobile Note 3 will most likely have an unlocked bootloader but I've been reading around the forums and people are saying that you can not purchase the device with out a plan from T-Mobile even if you do pay for the device out right can I get some clarification on that? So which one would be best for my needs? I'm on AT&T currently and would like to stay with them but I do want root and an unlocked bootloader. What do you guys think? I know I posted this on the AT&T sub-forum but do you have any regrets of not pre-ordering a T-Mobile Note 3 instead? Thanks for your help and input!

I'm in the same boat
What I did was use my upgrade to get a GN3, I am going to sell that then for about 700 and buy and unlocked Tmobile GN3 from Negrielectronics.com so I'm spending around 400 dollars on a GN3 for Tmobile that has an unlocked bootloader and can use ATT's LTE.
Not a bad suggestion. Appreciate the input

Bootloader is definitely unlocked or else we wont be seeing the commands that appear

Chainfire has released CF auto root for the tmobile variant. It uses the recovery method to root.

You can't. Once the stock firmware has been released for the AT&T version(which it hasn't) a dev like chainfire will modify the recovery from it. If it flashes successfully then it is unlocked. If it fails then it is locked. It is very risky to test flash something without the stock firmware.
ATT version = locked boot loader

Some people have said they were able to by the phone without service and some have not. Yes you can get it unlocked from a third party like cellunlocker.net. If you have a friend on Tmobile you might take them to lunch or something and stop by Tmobile. The phone doesn't have to be used on their account. I just think some store's are requiring an active account to buy it outright. I bought mine from Negri already unlocked. Still hasn't shipped yet though. For no tax I can wait.
Thanks for the advice! I just went to my local T-mobile and purchased one no questions asked. Granted it was 739$ before taxes and now I'm just waiting for my unlock code to be emailed to me by cellunlocker.net. overall very happy with my purchase.

I didn't have to buy a plan all I said was I wanted to buy a Note 3 for full retail. She rang my purchase out and I had the box in my hands. It ended up being 739$ plus tax instead of the normal 708$ but it was worth it. The sales associate didn't hassle me or anything about a plan. It's a mixed bag I guess some people on the forums had to get a plan but I was lucky enough not to.

It was a corporate store they had one black one left and I took it . Also an update on the unlock. It took about 2 hours but my Note 3 is now unlocked and using AT&T's LTE network. Getting about the same speeds as I was when using my iPhone 5. Extremely happy with my purchase!

When will we have AOSP Roms?

As the title states, just wondering what the holdup is on us getting AOSP Roms seeing as how we currently have root and custom recovery. Thanks in advance to any who attempt to answer this question!

Well our bootloader is locked. You need custom Kernals for anything other than TouchWiz ROMS.
I have seen some pretty close to AOSP roms with the right dev but we will NEVER have AOSP roms on this phone.
Only if Samsung had it like HTC's website for the M8. They have the option to unlock their bootloaders. SMH
Samsung, Verizon, and At&t are losing customers / sells due to this BS

I doubt it bro. I was waiting for it to happen with the Note 3 and it never did.
Note 2 > Awesome. Miss it
Note 3 > GPS issues and Locked bootloader.
S 5 > Laggy, Slow, Locked Bootloader.
S 5 Active > Awesome. Locked Bootloader.
I want the M8 to try out now. HTC is actually making money and sells are going up. HTC is on to something
Samsung, SMH. Starting to disappoint me now. From the Note 3 to this phone has been sucky.

[Q] will vzw nexus 6 have locked bootloader?

With big red's habit of keeping their users from actually customizing their devices, would it be safe to assume that they are going to lock the bootloader on the nexus 6 just like they did with my gorgeous - but bone stock - GS5? (SM-G900V)
Thx!

To be honest, I am scared of Verizons evil deeds, but I can see Google putting up a fight for too much carrier customization. At worst, maybe sim locked and a Verizon logo. Same thing as ATT did, but that's why u get the unlocked version from the Play store, Motorola, Sprint, or T-Mobile.

VZW doesn't SIM lock devices anymore.
They will, however, encrypt bootloaders.
Not a snowball's chance in hell that the bootloader will be locked.

It's hopeless
Mark MY words and come back to it and if I'm wrong I will donate to charity. The Nexus 6 will NOT be coming to Verizon. They will release a very very similar phone all marked up with Verizon labels with some type of "Droid" branding called the super duper turbo that will indeed have a locked bootloader and all sorts of bloat ware crap strung throughout the Motorola skinned app drawer... sorry I'm just a bitter Verizon customer stuck in a harsh reality!
If you can afford it, buy from google or Motorola. Slap in a nano Sim card from Verizon. It works. Got my nexus Thursday and swapped the Sim out of my moto x. Been using it since. Sold my moto x along with my note 3. Downloaded youmail and unsubscribed from Verizon visual voicemail.
I don't see why it would be locked. The Galaxy Nexus wasn't. I'm so glad my Galaxy Nexus SIM card works on the nsix. Lol with a serious trimming down...

I got my N6 directly from Moto and popped in my VZW sim without a hitch.
I'll say this... I used my OnePlus on TMobile for 6 months and their network is TRASH in comparison. This was after a summer of traveling around the U.S., traveling for work, and a few driving getaways. If TMo works in your neighborhood and you never leave it, then more power to you. If not, I'm here to tell you, VZW may be a-holes when it comes to devices but their network is no joke. Don't suffer from "the grass-is-greener" syndrome.

Verizon version owners

Is there anyone else who will get their Nexus 6 from Verizon? I will give it a try for a couple of weeks assuming I can easily root and install a custom recovery.
Nope. Got mine months ago and am already using it on Verizon.

Since it is a Nexus device we won't have to worry about kernels and locked bootloaders.

i dont like verizon, so ill never be on verizon, but fastboot oem unlock IS a nexus feature, introduced to us through the nexus one and every nexus after. while verizons version can be sim locked, all nexus come with an unlockable bootloader, even if the provider doesnt like it. and im pretty sure that this fact wont change. heck, im pretty sure the att version would have had a locked bootloader, if they were allowed to add that in.

Question about buying a new Nexus 6

Hi guys. Question, I am about to purchase an "unlocked" New 6. Seller says it is ATT and he will include an unlock code. Doesn't every nexus come unlocked? I thought if I simply factory reset without a sim in it it will just default to an unlocked phone... Any help on this would be appreciated. Reason is I can buy it with the factory stickers and screen cover still on it for $200. I think that's a great deal.
