Currently have a Xperia SP, but need a little extra money in my wallet and just to add another reason, in all honestly there isn't enough ROM support for me personally, and i'm not one to wait
Thinking about getting this OR the HTC Sensation...
Seen the great ROM support for this phone, so would like to know a few questions if you wouldn't mind taking the time to help me
What is the camera quality like? (xperia SP is awful in this department)
Is it a "fast" phone? any really noticeable lag?
if the phone is locked to a network can you still unlock the bootloader? (Xperia's tend to not let you if you are locked to a network 99% of time)
and would you choose this over the sensation? I mainly play a few games, browse internet and text..... OH and install ROMS.

I can not compare models and I might have other needs than you (I am not a gamer). But considered the age of this phone, an used one can not be expensive, and there are some great fast and stable ROMs out there and there is ongoing development.
Furthermore, it is impossible to brick: you can change bootloader (it can not be locked), ROM and kernel as much as you like and there are excellent tools for doing so. Try to look at my post here.
You have to understand, it is not a state of the art phone, and in order to use all features (BT and HDMI-output), you will probably have to run a ROM based on an older CM version. Please note that CM has not released stable versions since CM7.2, and will not, but some have managed to modify CM10-CM10.2 to run on p990.
I am very happy with the phone and like to follow development on this forum!

Here are my 2 cents. The main problem that plagues this otherwise quite likeable device is the RAM, or lack thereof. CPU as well as GPU are quite powerful despite being almost 3 years old.
Though one thing that goes in its favour, as you rightly mentioned, is the support of awesome developers. Guys like pengus77, tonyp, jishnu, sreeprajay, spyrosk & all the usual suspects have done such a awesome job of the utilizing every single ounce of its potential to the fullest.
It's usually fast as long as you manage your resources well. Don't allow too many services chewing precious RAM in the background. Using apps like "Greenify" comes quite handy to achieve the same.
Still, not a bad device to tinker around as long as one doesn't set his expectations a bit too high. Personally, I would suggest you to choose Sensation over this primarily for more available RAM. Having said that, Sensation has its own fair share of issues too like the infamous "death grip".

Sorry to interrupt, but i'm in the same situation. Just changed my phone, and i like this one a lot more than a newer Samsung.
I'm looking for a rom, anything above CM7.2, preferrable 10.x at least with HDMI, BT and WiFi hotspot working.
I have flashed about 5 roms on the above CM10.x and everyone is missing a different thing, be it camera, BT or WiFi hotspot, even battery eating issues. (why no one makes a full one?)
And all lack HDMI.
I would use even a rom based on ICS if it has everything on it's place.
Altough, i really liked the new lock screen on CM10.2 meanwhile overclocking and Kowalsky opened a few doors.
Does anyone know of any mostly stable rom closest to this?
Which would be the newest ROM of any flavor with everything working and no battery issues?
I tried quite a few ROMs & here's my set-up. The best so far I could find in terms of performance, stability & battery life was pengus77's "Unofficial CM 10 ROM" coupled with his own Kowalski M1 Stable Kernel.
Though being primarily a CM10 based ROM which is a derivative of 4.1.2, it will not have lock screen widgets if that's the thing you really care about. As far as camera is concerned, I use jishnu sur's camera mod.

I'm having real trouble with battery life when 3g enabled, overnight my battery drop about 1%, today i enabled 3g and tt went down by almost 30% in only 2 hours. Quite dissapointing issue.
By any chance do you know where could i find more info. about HDMI not working issue? I can't believe that no one ported the driver or worked it out since it appeared.
Frankly, I have neither tested HDMI out function nor it has any real world use in my case. My best guess is it'll work with Stock based Custom ROMs & stock ROM itself of course. You may test it out with Pengus77's ROM if it works.
why don't you want to downgrade to another better phone, for example to Xperia M it's really cheaper and much better than Optimus 2x.
Would any developer be willing to create an MIUI or IOS ROM for the HTC Desire 626 Metro PCs?

Probably a reference to JoyOS, an iOS cloned theme that was last seen around the time CM 7 was still the most popular ROM. To my knowledge the original Chinese forum which was doing the heavy lifting abandoned this quite some time ago. With the exception of the Goophone I don't think anyone is doing full conversion ROMs which resemble iOS anymore and their systems don't seem to have been dumped and translated yet, which by this time indicates there is no interest.

That explains the reason why there's no more ios rom creation. But, what about MIUI? The os of MIUI has dramatically evolved over the past 4 years. Am I tripping, or is it that no one wants to take a crack at creating a rom for us little guys for devices such as the HTC Desire 626s?

Believe it or not rom creation is hard and relies on having the sources available (which not all companies will do--HTC used to be better than most about this which is why I took a chance on this phone) and on having developers who have the phone and are capable\willing to do the hard work of making a complete AOSP or Cyangogenmod version of the base operating system. Only after that has been completed do you usually start to see more exotic systems like MIUI, Mokee, ParanoidAndroid, etc, get ported over. Even then there's a dirty little secret about Android roms:
Most of them never get 100% compatibility and hardware support. Ever. Despite the best efforts of the porters.
I had an HTC One V which did well for its time but the camera never quite made it to 100% hardware support. Same thing with bluetooth. My LG Optimus F3 never quite got anywhere with roms and eventually I gave up on it and moved on to the HTC Desire 626s which despite some solid efforts at producing the slimmed down version I am currently running also does not seem to have any real custom android roms.
This goes back to my first point: Rom creation is hard.
That's why even when people put up bounties and buy phones for well known rom hackers who have produced many ports, it still doesn't always result in new roms. Because it's a lot harder than it looks.
I was spoiled initially, I had an LG Optimus V which quickly had a custom rom built for it with very good hardware support which was lean and clean. There were custom kernels for it and it quickly had all sorts of ports of everything from CM7 to JoyOS to MIUI to Mokee and friends within a relatively short period of time. It was the little phone that could and I mistakenly believed that because lightening struck and all sorts of good things were happening this was how it always was. Not even close to the case.
I got lucky. The LG Optimus V was cheap enough that it attracted all sorts of interest from a variety of the right people at the right time. This kind of thing isn't even close to being normal. Some times you get lucky, sometimes you don't.
So why not MIUI? Well I'm sorry to say but for one thing MIUI is heavy. It's heavy like Touchwiz or Sense can be, and that sort of thing can only be helped with massive amounts of optimization. Sadly not every phone has a developer (or group of developers) who are willing to do that sort of thing for free.
So all I can say is appreciate the level of development we've got and be thankful for the work of the developers who have released a slimmer rom for us already. If you need a MIUI rom for your phone, you should probably track the releases here before buying. If you check the forums, you'll see you are not alone. There are lots of people who want MIUI ports.

Thank you. You have truly answered my questions, even ones I wondered about but didn't ask. I am greatly satisfied with what you have said. I understand that rom creation is hard and it can take a toll on the one creating the rom. It's not an easy task. I to had a Samsung galaxy epic 4g touch, which had all sorts of roms for it. But also knowing from experience, you are correct. It is a hit and miss sometimes with some devices you buy. Maybe as newer devices are created, the ability to create ROMs for them gets harder because of the upgraded technology and coding. I could be wrong. On the miui official site, they is a list of devices that they support. But most of them are old school and i surely wouldn't want to take a step down from this phone just to have miui. Then the newer phones in some cases cost more than this phone(referring to the HTC desire 626). I do appreciate the effort that has been put forth for a slimmed down version for this phone. But what I've asked in previous threads was whether or not there is root access yet for the mm update for the metro PCs version of the HTC desire 626s. No bites what so ever. I'm guessing either there isn't any or I'm just not coming across it yet. Any help on that would be highly appreciated. But all in all, I would really like to say thank you for taking the time to answer my question. I appreciate that. You have brought some clarity to the table. I wouldn't mind help supporting a developer who would be willing to create an miui rom for our device once a cyanogenmod version is acquired.

The custom recovery is posted in this thread and used this> supersu.zip, fastboot flash the recovery and then flash the supersu.zip in recovery. After flashing supersu and booting up install busybox.
BUT don't forget to make a backup, just incase.

Thank you sir for the info. I am unlocked and rooted again. Now, I'll sit back and wait for some debloated roms to pop up for 6.0.1 2.17.1550.1 Metro PCS.
Hey, if you're still interested in Miui, you could try installing the launcher app, see if that gives you enough of the miui experience to get by until someone eventually makes a port?

My bad. Here I found the app in my Play Store history, (from before Google made it country specific?) and installed it. It immediately crashed but stayed open. From there I updated it from within the launcher settings and it crashed again. Just as I was about to give up I had a brainstorm and went back into settings and turned off the lockscreen. This made it stop crashing for me. I hunted around for Beautiful Widgets and replaced the clock and installed miui theme for it and everything looks good from here.
So I installed Titanium Backup and uploaded the app. Hopefully this helps you.

I looked around to see if anyone else saw any major differences between the android 5.1 and android 6.0.1 update. I only found one video that explains it as best as possible. See link below to youtube video.

What did we actually get besides optimization, google now on tap, and a few visuals here and there?
May-be it's just me, but the only time I get any battery optimization is only when i'm not using the phone. Other then that, while i'm using my phone, the battery still drains fast.
I really don't see the major point in having google now on tap since I really don't care to get a ton of info on sites I visit on my phone.
I was hoping to get a full blown OS upgrade. But after seeing the file size of the update, I was already disappointed from the start.
Am I the only one disappointed in the update?

So, other things it got that I'm happy about:
Individual app permissions
Doze
Format SD card as internal storage
To me, these are the best things about upgrading to 6.0.1 that actually make a difference for me.
FYI, the battery life will be the same when you are using the phone, Doze only kicks in when the phone is idle, like really, really idle. Not using it, not in your pocket when you're walking around, nothing like that. It needs to be sitting still on a table/desk for a good while (like when you are sleeping and not constantly checking your phone) before it will kick Doze on.
I agree with @Rev_Pizzaguy...that's how Android M works by design. I have Evervolv Marshmallow running on my HP Touchpad and i get the slowest drain when Doze is running and my tablet is totally still and nothing runs.
Also, I personally have no regrets converting my 64GB SD card to internal. I weighed the pros and cons and made my choice, lol.

App permissions and SD card as internal storage is fine. I have no problem with these system updates, it's the fact that they didn't take full advantage of the ability to customize their particular os. HTC needs a little pep in their step when it comes to visual os upgrades. The themes engine is OK, but nothing compared to cyanogenmod, miui, oxygen os and flyme os. What I was referring to was the look overall not changing. Instead of calling it a Android 6.0.1 os update, they should have called it an Android 6.0.1 system update and made it perfectly clear that there would be no actual visual changes, just a few system changes. Text on a screen can be misinterpreted by the reader, so I want to make it clear. I'm not upset with what the update offered, I'm upset at the fact that there was no change to the look of the os. Maybe if there are future updates for this, things may change. But for now, just gonna sit back and be content with what I got and hope for the best going forth in the future.

For me, it's about the visuals. I never said I didn't like the update, I just wanted to see what HTC could do with visuals. That was a disappointment. Everything else that came in the update was fine. Wish I knew how to build roms. But since I don't, I must have hope in those who do and hope they will come through for us 626s users.

HTC's latest version of Sense UI is 7.0 and their other phones that have been updated to Android 6.0.1 ran Sense 7.0 as well, so I wasn't expecting much UI change. I know Sense 8.0 is coming, but it's only in limited release on their new flagship (HTC 10). From the sounds of it, it sounds like they are decoupling Sense UI completely from the OS, though, so we may see it as an update later on. (Search for "HTC Sense 8.0 closed beta" and you'll find plenty of articles.)

Thank you Rev for the info. Well, at least that gives me hope. I do develop themes on the side for HTC. But there's only so much you can do as far as customization. I'm only able to change the dialer, messages, wallpapers, icons, and color scheme and a couple other things. They now have what they call "Freestyle Themes." Which are not bad at all. I would just like to see htc themselves think outside of the box like they did with their own branded "Freestyle Theme" collection. But yeah, what you have told me gives me hope for the future. Hello! I'm essentially a new user for things like rooting and all that crazy rom stuff when it comes to android. I've only ever used my Huawei Mate 8 to do things like rooting, twrp and rom installation. Xposed bricked the phone whenever i tried to do it so i just rooted stock and left it. I'm lookin to get this dude to be fast and have nice battery life so i can hang on to it for a year or so. I was wondering what things i should do to achieve this while keeping it safe from bricking and doing other weird things to it. For instance, Im not sure what is wrong with my mate 8. But even though twrp works on it, i cannot install any roms on it. The roms never load in and on a backcheck i can see that the storage space is unused. Just not sure what happened.
What things do you guys do to keep the phone running well for a long time? Keep it fast and smooth. Ive never used xposed before so I would have to explore that. I really only use root to modify the kernel to save a bit of battery. I dont really want to go crazy but if i could squeeze an average of 6-8 hours of screen on time with this dude I would do all the crazy things.
Consider me a new user due to the very low support with the Mate 8. Havent really explored android as much as i wish i could have with that phone.

Also, we'll mostly get an update this week.

There phone is anyway blazing fast and gives a great battery backup. Even if you keep it in battery saver mode, it's quite fast
But if you feel restless, rooting, flashing ROMs, etc is quite easy. You just need to read about it before doing it. You can always ask anything over here. The are many awesome people here willing to help you out. It's your call. You get to revert back to stock ROM anyway.
Is the nougat beta better than marshmallow? Battery life better or worse or same-y? I'm trying to get the most I can before receiving this phone.

Sorry, my bad. Tesla is official now.
But the fact remains that both are buggy. There's some important feature not working properly in all roms.
Hi people. I bought recently a Huawei P9, and it has Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The first day poped up an udate to Android 7 and EMUI 5. Im hesitant to update it because i read some people have problems with the battery after update. Is this really an issue? Any opinion is welcome. Thanks!
I guess, problems with battery are when you root and modify phone, atlest for me have not problems with battery in nuget, and can say, on nuget battery works better than it was on marshmalow, but that realy depends on personal use of phone.
Nuget are faster, visual better, and have not problems with battery, atlest for me, but im not hardcore user, its only my experience using marshmalow, then nuget, nuget 80% better
Most of problems like stability and battery life is made by users them self, apps they use, lack of maintaining/cleaning phone or just weird placebo effect just like with custom roms, where people install them and shout AMAZING SPEED... Of course it will be faster with better battery life, they just made clean installation and didnt install all applications that they normally have on phone. With update its reversed situation, they do "dirty" update.
I found long time ago that after some major udpates lots of applications, even system ones drain battery and crash often. Its a matter of cleaning cache or whole app memory, or just update apps/reinstall them to fix that.
And should you update?
Its up to you really, if there is update, why not. But dont really expect miracles from any update, not only in Huawei devices. For most of time update are really just cosmetic changes, some tweaks with look, functions and some fixing AND adding new bugs.
You will not gonna have any compatibility problems with apps/games if you stay with 6.0 If you are happy with current version and you dont have any major problems... just leave it as it is. You should not even be worrying about security patches, for all those years of using Android I seriously believe that its just some placebo, because 99.9% of "viruses/hax" on phones are just users who install some crappy apps or throw their personal data all over the internet, typing their credit cards numbers on every damn game and app.

As far as features/improvements, I do not find Nougat to be much of an update over Marshmallow. For me, the biggest reason to update is simply because you will get security updates for vulnerabilities in android. Most people don't care about that, and that is their choice. Other than a few new features for the camera, there is not that much for me to choose Nougat over Marshmallow. YMMV.
