Anyone tried downloading this video for their Gear VR?
Dream Beach 360
I see in the other thread on 360 video downloads that the author offers a discount code for XDA Members. Thanks for that.
Just wondering how easy it was to get over to your Gear VR and could you put it on the Ext SD Card vs having to put it in the internal SD Card storage? DId you need to make additional files etc? Was it worth buying?
Pricing like for Hollywood production.

It's very easy to sideload any 360 video or any 3d video. All you have to do is place it in the correct oculus folder on your sd card. Copy 3d videos to the 3d folder and 360 to the 360 video folder. I've already downloaded and watched avatar, godzilla, gravity and xmen days of future past all in 3d. Can highly recommend watching gravity in 3d on the gear vr
Thanks for reply....with only 1GB usually free on my 'internal' SD card, I'd like to put these in folders on my external (micro SD) SD card....do they have to be in the internal storage where the default Oculus folder is? If not, what would the path look like in the external SD card

All the oculus folder's are on your external sdcard. I copied the gear vr sdcard contents to my 64g sd card but these are the folders you want. For 3d movies drop them in your 3d folder

How to copy Dream Beach 360 VR Atmosphaere to Samsung Gear VR or Android phone
Hi pwscott,
I'm Eric Fassbender the creator of Dream Beach 360. Thanks for your interest in my first 360 degree VR Relaxation Atmosphaere Dream Beach 360.
There is a little tutorial in the FAQ section of Dream Beach 360 on how to copy the video to your SD card (it's called "How to copy Dream Beach 360 VR Atmosphaere to Samsung Gear VR or Android phone"). Whether that is on your Note 4 or in a Micro SD adapter, the process is pretty much the same. Should you still have questions, feel free to post again or get in touch directly via my website Feel the Relaxation dot com.
The XDA discount code is still valid until tomorrow (9th February) - just use XDA20 to receive the 20% introductory discount.
Also, take a look at 'A Walk on the Beach' that has only just been released on my site. This new Atmosphaere gives you 15 minutes of time on the beach at half the price of the 30 minutes Dream Beach 360.
Also stay tuned on Facebook (/atmosphaeres) and Twitter (/atmosphaeres) for our upcoming IRELAND Atmosphaere which we are shooting next week!
If you still have questions please feel free to contact me directly via the contact form on our website @ Feel the Relaxation dot com.
Thanks again for the friendly comments from the helpful people here on xda. Your feedback is greatly appreciated and helps me to improve my Atmosphaeres over time.
Yours sincerely,
Eric
PS - Sorry for the cryptic message but I can't post direct URL's yet
Thanks for your message. I purchased the bundle at the XDA promotional price..... The splash page I received after my order had links that could not be clicked /followed in Chrome on my Note 4....attempting to follow them apparently decremented my 'available downloads to zero and so even looking to the links in my proof of purchase email receipts, I can not download the files I paid for..... Disappointing to say the least.
I have sent a message via your website asking for resolution on this.
Thanks. I look forward to 'relaxing on the beach'.

Hi Scott, I'm glad we could get this sorted. I wasn't aware that people were downloading the video straight to their phone and that this is creating problems. So thank you for this very valuable feedback, I'll include a note on the pages so people know that they need to download the videos to their computer first and then transfer them to the SD card. Again, thanks for the feedback and enjoy your time on the beach.
All the best,
Eric

Because of the popularity and great user feedback I have extended the XDA special discount for one week until Monday 16. Feb. Like before, just use XDA20 to receive a 20% discount. This discount is valid for 'Dream Beach 360', the newly released 'A Walk on the Beach' and all other products on the site.
Enjoy

No worries Phil, we're always glad if we can help
Should we get the 4k or the regular 1080p version for our Samsung VR?
The 4k version is optimised for the Gear VR.
The problem I've had thus far with 360 videos is that they are horribly out if focus at anything more that 5 feet away. Does your work solve this? Things like the NYC flyover included with the GVR are just awful. Thanks.

After reading some experiences on my other thread about how some USB devices work perfectly, and some only allow you to see and copy your material I am starting this thread so that people that need to buy external storage but are afraid it may not work.
So some people that already have the Nexus7 have been able to have Full USB support. Some have not been so lucky.
Here is how to have full usb support:
Step 1) Root your Nexus
Step 2) Download and set up the app Stickmount
Step 3) buy a usb drive and a USB-OTG cable (plenty of threads on where to buy
Step 4) Post your results in this thread using the forum below.
Nexus7 16GB or 8GB
USB device: (Manufacturer, model, size, etc. Whether it is USBdrive, Harddrive, or sdcard)
USB-OTG cord: (Brand, purchased from, relevant thread)
Could you see the files in the Nexus7 native file explorer?: Yes or No
Could you see them with any other explorer? Yes or no
If yes which one: (App name)
Do the files open normally from the explorer? (Can you click on a song and have it open automatically in your default music player? How about pics? Movies? apks?): Yes or no
If no: What happened? Was there an error? Did you find a workaround?
This should help us buy the right brands so we don't waste our money.
NOTE TO THE MODS:
This is not a thread requesting deals, or a thread discussing how to host USB
This thread is just for the effectiveness of each device.
This thread should ONLY have posts with the above format and replies that are designed to help fix any problems with that device.
If you want to discuss anything about the Nexus7's ability to host, or about it's host development, etc please post in this general thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1736825
Please only post in this thread if you have a review of your experiences, or if you have a method to fix someone's problematic experiences (though that could be handled through PM and then the OP of that review could update their post.
Let's keep this as a neat organized reference. If you want to thank anyone in this thread, just hit the thanks button, no need to post.

Now there needs to be a case made that allows for the USB drive to be tucked away so we don't need to worry about it.

So if someone says "yeah I got it to work" I should open up the other thread and ask that person that posted his results on this thread how he got it to work since im having trouble? OMG yeah that makes sense. why didn't i think of that. unbelievable.
Edit time: I got it working, set up is as follows:
Nexus 7 8gb
Generic USB OTG cable from ebay $2.50 (US Seller) I believe Amazon has them for cheaper
http://www.ebay.com/itm/20078495618...NX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649#ht_981wt_1037
Kingston 16gb micro Flash $10
http://www.buy.com/prod/kingston-datatraveler-micro-16gb-usb-2-0-flash-drive-blue/227277954.html
and downloaded Stickmount. Once it worked I could open the files with Astro. Made a shortcut/widget to that folder, once plugged in, just click and browse. Makes it much easier.
Only thing is that cable ships from hong Kong. Its going to take weeks to get to you. Anyone know of a retailer that sales them?

huh? What cable? I just gave you an ebay link that ships from Brooklyn, NY. I ordered it go to me in 2 days. Ebay has a bunch of US sellers selling these cables all of which ship from the US, but keep an eye on the "should reach to you by this date" thing. I noticed some said 11-20 business days while others said a couple days from the order date. Only thing that sucks is that US sellers are usually at least 2x the price of hong kongers which in this case means $3 instead of $1.50 lol
I may try this one. How can they ship a 95 cent item free from Hong Kong? I like this one because it looks real small (would just keep it attached to the flash drive).
Okay, so I had a cable from a LONG LONG time ago and I know I got it on amazon but I don't remember where. What I'm posting for is I just formatted a micro SD Card to NTFS and loaded a movie on it and it plays AMAZING from the USB. I used stickmount after root, obviously, but I'm most impressed with flash NTFS support!! Looking now for a 128 GB USB stick if anyone has one to recommend.
Just got my nexis7. Jelly bean appears to be much faster than my other tablet running gingerbread or my smart phone. Yes, controls are different, but that was somewhat expected. Did not take long to figure it out and now it is easy.
I got the 16g model and very glad I did. The absolute biggest error ASUS made was not including a micro SD storage card. Yes, you can hook the unit to a laptop to upload/download ' but you are limited to what you have with you.
If they had added a micro SD, it would have been a home run IMHO.

Working towards a price point goal causes these things to happen. How popular and it seems hack friendly may end up with an application or hardware hack to achieve external memory cards.
Then of course you have the whole cloud behind you. This is a point that Google is trying to push us with this device, use it for your day-to-day things and let us (google) store it all for you on our computers. I've been using cloud services for my Music and Videos for a number of months now, I would find it hard to return to just what I had on my own media after that convenience (for me, maybe not every but for me it's a boon).
Who knows, exciting times.
Putting a positive spin on it, for those using this as an EReader every gram of weight pared off makes long reading sessions better, not adding those 10-15 grams of interface will help there... ok, ok, it's a long stretch.
Purchased the 16GB version and after installing all my games (Max Payne, GTA, Nova3, etc) I still have about 8 GB left. No issues with storage here, especially since I use the cloud for all my music (Saves about 4 or so GB). Couldn't be happier with this device after owning a Transformer and GTab 2 7". Home run in my book.
I wish they sold 8gb at the store, I'd got 8gb version than 16gb version.
16 GB would be handy, but I realized I rarely use any space since everything I do is available to stream and where I don't have WiFi access either I tether to Galaxy Nexus or just use Galaxy Nexus...

This.
While I agree that an external SD card would be useful, the lack of one is not the end of the world. 16GB should be more then enough space to hold movies/music/games for a long trip (even without Wi-Fi). Once you get to a place with Internet, you can replace your current content with more. And by using the OTG USB trick, you can still attach external sources of data. I wouldn't want to keep it plugged in for long periods of time personally, but you can delete/move/copy things back and forth to "reload" more content on your tablet.

They are already barely breaking even as it is selling a $199 quad core tablet. Adding anything more, and this price would not be possible. If there's a a better $200 tablet, please show it to me. Look at all those people that paid $200 for a Kindle, and what they got for the money.

This is what it's coming down to. I am already always connected through WiFi hotspot in my phone while I'm in transit. At home and work I have WiFi. As a result I've move to the cloud. Pandora, Sony Music Unlimited (Which is fantastic) and my ISPs movie service, Google Movies and Sony Movies filling in my video needs.
I understand that everyone is not me and some people can't turn their phones into hotspots, or don't have the data allowance, but we are moving that way.
The device can do a card I would say, the original version before Google cut it down from $250 to $199 had the card, HDMI and rear camera and more memory. Despite that cut down the circuit board in the Nexus 7 is still labelled as a ME370T, check the iFixit to see.

This part is probably the difference, right side missing. Only left ear to the middle usb, seems it would need middle usb to the right card slot so the entire strip goes over the bottom of the tablet. The frame (grey part with the stamp 120504 in this picture) looks to have space and the mounting reinforcement for a card slot on the right bottom, the extra needed wires seem to be in the ribbon, logically it would seem that function would go to the same part of the MB as the USB... maybe.
I am so glad I got the 8gb instead of the 16gb. I dont need or want the storage and with USB on the go I *would* be set either way. I much prefer the low cost. The days of hoarding data (Movies, TV Shows, Music) is a thing of the past for me. Its kind of like thumb drives, I used to always carry one with me on my key chain and I realized a year ago that this practice was already outdated thanks to dropbox.
And what a relief too, I dont have to wonder if my music folders are all named correctly or if they all have the album art. Its all taken care of by netflix, pandora, picasa and google music.
Google posted the specs of this device long before we bought it. The told us what would be included and what would be excluded. Based on this list it seemed that this was a perfect device for me. Thats why I purchased one. I am glad I did. My Ipad2 can collect dust now.
Mine has been all loaded up since Tuesday and it is actually only 5GB +/- not 8. Still a home run for me.....

I agree...
After downloading most of my Zinio magazines, Kindle books, Nook books, several games and my Play store books and magazines, I still have over 11GB free. Do the Play purchases stay on your device or are they pulled from the "Cloud" when you want to access them?
Yes, a Micro-SD card slot would have been nice. Yes, 3G would have been nice also. But, unfortunately, Asus had to make a cuts as they are making this thing cheaply. It is, after all, a budget tablet and for that I think it is pretty impressive.
What's the obsession with being a data pack rat? Internal storage is meant as temporary storage to consume new media then replace with newer.I have the same amount of storage on my smartphone with a ton of dancing video recordings and have set to even use half.
As much as I would of liked a SD card, I never use the space on it. When I had my 16 ans 32gb iPhones I never filled more then 8gb, same with my skyrocket and galaxy note and a 32gb card I have inside. I think Google saved me money by not adding it since I would of bought a extra card just to do it.

I just want to say that google will never make SD card slot for any of their Nexus device, because that way they can make money off Google drive and their cloud services, so stop complain about no SD card slots. So Nexus 5 NO SD CARD SLOTS.

Good. I don't need or want one. It doesn't have as much to do with Google's cloud services as it does paying Microsoft $7 for every phone sold with a SD card slot. Why would Google actively support Microsoft?

What in the world? Google just chooses not to have SD card slots for performance issues and Ofcourse the ever obvious cloud storage they've been trying to get people into

Yea...makes sense because Google's Drive is the only cloud storage out there? No. More people use Box and a few others. Besides how lucrative of a business is cloud storage? Performance issues aside it has more to do with not supporting a direct competitor.

Frankly i don't think they're trying to compete over cloud storage but they have integrated alot of features that make Drive an awesome cloud storage. Word processing, private sharing and such. Infact I use Dropbox alot but I'll admit Google always knows how to do it better. I feel the whole candy picked features are to promote the use of drive as an all rounder, which is basically what's happening lol

Drive is nice but it's not a lucrative money making machine. It's cloud storage. Now imagine every phone sold with a MicroSD card slot. Now imagine handing Microsoft $7 for every phone sold with a micro SD card slot. Sure most OEMs don't care. But when it comes to direct competitors like Apple and Google it's a matter of business ethics.

While all that does make sense, it still doesn't make sense as to why they build something as preposterous as an 8GB Internal, why not set the bar from 16-32, what is that? A storage for ants? Like seriously apps are all HD, contents are all downloadable and scale per update, the OS already eats up 2GB and core files about 500MB which leaves you to your nandroid and backups which take roughly 500-1024MB and it doesn't make sense at all.

I could've sworn the patent in question was for MicroSD though
If you would have made this thread last year when people were still making threads about lack of microSD card, I would have directed you to post here

But since that thread has long been closed, maybe you can just search it for "sd" and "cloud" and see that these conversations have already been had.

Good. I don't need or want one. It doesn't have as much to do with Google's cloud services as it does paying Microsoft $7 for every phone sold with a SD card slot. Why would Google actively support Microsoft?

Actually, the choice made sense to me. Because not everyone needs that much storage. When I bought the N4 I looked at what I actually had been storing on my old phone. Mostly it was pictures. Raw images, unedited, unsorted, many of which would be deleted later when I moved them to my computer and winnowed them.
Clean install of 4.3, I had 5gb available. After setting up 40 apps and doing a nandroid backup I had 3+gb available. I've taken several dozen photos and I still have 3+gb available - because I found I could push them off my phone to my home network server using the foldersync app. I stream music from my server or Play. I can't think of anything meaningful or useful to put in those 3gb.
Everyone's needs differ of course but local storage that is not needed and just adds expense makes no sense to me. my $0.02

Well, I have no issue with no SD card... If they had all devices with 32/64gb space. I have a 16gb gnex, nexus 4, and a 7, with all my music and apps on, with only one game at a time, I have 2gb free, I rely on the cloud for most of my files and videos, but the second they put out a 64gb nexus phone, even if it was 600$ , I would buy it

Hi,
I'm looking for a Scanning app that converts photos to PDF files and easily backs up at GCloud.
The other possibility is storing these documents on another App i.e. Evernote etc but I haven't used this before.
Any suggestions?

Turbo scanner FTW , I once paid for camscanner and then they made it a freemium app. I don't care for business the business tactics of app developers these days. I have seen multiple apps that were once paid, turn into freemium based bs. Take tapatalk for example in this case.
Camscanner is pretty cool, but I prefer ScanWritr.

I've been using Camscanner for several years, but I wish it had a faster workflow for scanning and uploading multiple receipts to Evernote. I don't need all the online storage extra's that come with it.

Evernote has a built in document scanner which will apply contrast and crop sheets - it's hit and miss with the cropping and it offers very little control over the final image, but it scans directly to evernote.
I'm a Camscanner user, but depending on what I'm scanning, I'll switch between that and Evernote. Camscanner allows for a lot of fine-tuning and the cropping is pretty accurate (which you can adjust at any time).
Genius Scan
Genius Scan also worth a look.
Take a picture, crop, push to drive, dropbox, email, evernote, producteev etc.
And for general business, Hancom Office is quite handy. Find it in Galaxy Gifts iirc.

Do you mean the standard camera? Or is there an app called "Photo Note"?
I've only had the phone a week so still exploring (I got it 1 day BEFORE they were officially released here in Australia as I think I was literally the first person in the country to pre-order it).
I need to convert documents to PDFs so I need a Scanner app. The one I'm using (PDF document) doesn't automatically backup to Gcloud though. The best would be a program that lets me organise (file) all of these documents in one place. I'm not sure if Evernote is what I'm after or something else. I don't want to be using 4 different organisation apps/programs so I'm looking for one that does everything, possibly Evernote, Office etc?

I got one of the first Note 4s in South Africa. Hope you're enjoying yours in Aus.
Photo Note is one of the built in suit of s-pen features. You take a photo of something and it scans it into s-note. Look for an s-pen tutorial on YouTube. It automatically detects the page/whiteboard edges and corrects for the skew. It can then convert it into an editable (vector) page so you can move around stuff or delete individual elements.
Here is an example I've uploaded to Google Drive https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B39ZlYpcE82fM3FKZmEzenlkT2M/edit?usp=docslist_api
It was a quick test I played with taken in low light but it gives you the idea. I've moved a paragraph around and added some colour.

Thanks, I saw this in an ad but had forgotten to investigate (a lot to take in in a week). This is absolutely awesome and imagine could be very useful. I run a small business but am not the greatest at paperwork so this will be an excellent tool to store invoices and other documents.

Yes, there are quite a few reasons why I prefer ScanWritr over Camscanner:
- I like ScanWritr's live auto crop and image enhancement more (might be just a subjective preference)
- ScanWritr imports a whole bunch of different formats (pdf, docx, pptx, xlsx...)
- it has a signature tool (I use it at least once a month with my bank)
- it enables you to write on imported documents (a bit slow to type, but useful nevertheless)

I went to the bar last night and brought my Gear VR with me and this is some funny clips from that night. It's all girls first time experiences. Enjoy! NSFW
youre a hit with the ladies hehe
Haha what can I say the ladies like all my tech.. What's crazy is how ubiquitous the response has been to this with girls. It's always pretty much in sequence of "what's that?", "Oh what's VR?", "Holy sh*t this exists???!", followed by 99% of the time "where's the porn???", "I want one!!!".
Great video.
Where did you get the porn? Are you using trailers or the full video?
It's from virtualrealporn.com it's the full length ones that I'm showing.

Same site I have been downloading the trailers from. The only thing is that they are only 180 degree and have to be viewed using the Milk section.
Not sure if I'm doing something wrong but when the video is playing there are two screens top and bottom instead of only one wide.
What do you think?

Make a folder named VoltVR in the root directory of your phone not your sd card and put the videos in there and put _3dv before .mp4 in the file name of the video and it should work now and be 3d.

Thanks Jace.
I'll do that when I get home after work. After following your steps above, would the videos play in the Milk or the 360 video section?
Have you tried downloading the full movies from ttorrent? Would you care to share the file if you have it on a cloud storage?

It'll be in milk but milk is better since it's more like a traditional video player. There isn't any torrents last I checked for the gear vr just the oculus which when I tried it wasn't the right ratio or something because it scrunched everything. I'll try to put it up if I can later. You can get a 2 week pass for like 5 bucks that's what I did. First time I payed for porn probably lol.

Thanks man, I am testing and downloading some videos from YouTube.
I have followed your instructions on adding the VoltVR folder and adding the "_3dv" with great results. One thing though is that I would rather have the file stored on the sd card; is there any way to have Milk feeding off of the sd card instead of the phone?
It would great if you can put the "p-videos" you have up so we can experiment. I'll send you a couple of bucks to help out with the cost if you have a PayPal account.
Thanks in advance.
I found a good full adult movie that I'm uploading to my cloud and will share once complete.
This is where I got the torrent from https://www.dropbox.com/s/q75c5ydj2...on+(Headtracking+3D+Oculus+Porn).torrent?dl=0
The only thing with this one is that you have to add the "_3dh" instead of the "_3dv" before the ".mp4".
Did anyone download the movie listed above? The ratio is not right, it is just ok. Let me know if there if anything there is anything we can do to fix the file.
I'll try it tonight also you can feed off your sdcard for the milk videos did you figure it out? If not I'll post the directions

Thanks Jace,
To get it to work from the sd card I will drop the folder into the root directory. Not sure if that will do, I will try later.
I'm currently still looking for a good adult VR movie other than the trailers. I would like to have it for show since I get asked a million times by girls if I can show them "porn" lol.
Jace, you have to share what you have man. Send something you think will "wow" the masses, I'll send a couple of bucks your way if you need me too.
Thanks in advance.
I have downloaded some adult content but it is for the oculus rift (what I believe). The video is way too tall or wide when I try doing the "_3dh". It is originally side to side.
Any pointers?

Sorry man works been keeping me busy. Um yeah I had the same problem with those torrents.. Those were made for the oculus so that's why the image gets scrunched like that. Maybe there's a way to fix that by changing the resolution for it but I'm not sure. Did you still want me to used a video? I can probably upload one to my Dropbox or something if yoj want to try it.

Use the FolderMount app to trick your phone into using the external card.
Y Did anyone get the adult content videos yet?
I have never paid for porn before nor wanted my credit card linked to any adult site but I think this completes the VR experience.
It is great not necessarily in a perverted way but more at an experimental level and fun. they did a great job on the video quality as they look 2 times better than the blurry ones from the 360 video library.
I have a couple of good videos are ready and I will be downloading and uploading more to my cloud storage. If you are interested shoot me a PM and I have no problem sharing what I have.
Don't forget to add the "_3dv" before the .mp4
