Moto X low microphone sound - almost silenced! - Moto X Q&A

Hi guys!
Sorry if my english it's not very good, im from Argentina
I have a Moto X with retail brasi kit kat 4.4.4
I started noticing that the mic's volume is reeeeeeeeeally low..
With a needle i've tried to clean de hole on the bottom of the screen but it did not work
Does anyone have a solution that actualy works?
Is there a soft or hard issue?
Thanks a lot!

I get this too. I've had 3 Moto X and they all have had this happen. It's the mic getting plugged up with dust/fuzz/skin and any other funky stuff. Cleaning it will help a little bit but it gets to a point where the mic is just unusable. I'm not really sure what to do with mine aside from tearing the phone apart and cleaning it.

[Q] static noise when locking or unlocking

I have a brand new moto x. Two days out of the box. I just set up google now and hear a popping sound whenever I lock or unlock the phone. Kind of what you hear when plug in a guitar to an amp that is powered up (only not that loud lol). Has anyone else had this issue? Any guidance on getting rid of it?
Thanks in advance
Not sure if this is what you're looking for, but under settings ,sound, there is a box to check for lock sound.

[Q] Speaker Randomly Stops Working but Loudspeaker Fine

Hi All,
I have been having this issue across more than one rom. It's happened on Interasers Full Sense 4.1 Stock rom, and Nik's Project X Rebirth.
Basically, on the odd occasion the speaker stops working. I go to make a call and I hear nothing in the speaker, no ring tone, no voices on the other end. If I switch it to loudspeaker though I can hear everything. At one moment it is working fine, at the next it is down again.
I am currently using Nik's Project X and have S-Off and Blackrose, and I recently replaced the USB Flex. Is it possible I have a loose cable from when I replaced the USB flex?
Or is this something someone else has experienced before?
Any help or direction would be appreciated.
I've tried to search all the threads but I couldn't find anything.
Thanks,
PW

Bottom speaker not working anymore

Hi,
since yesterday, the bottom/right speaker of my Moto G 2014 (Stock 4.4.4, not rooted) doesn't work anymore. When there should be stereo sound, only the left channel is audible through the top/left speaker.
Already tried rebooting the phone, didn't make any difference. I don't remember doing anything out of the ordinary that could have caused this. Hopefully it's not a hardware defect since the phone is just a few weeks old.
Has anyone else here already had this issue? If you need more info or have any idea what I could try out, please let me know!
Well, the external speakers shouldn't work that way.
Unless its faulty...... which I think it is.
Does the headphone jack work allright ??
Oh, I forgot to mention that. Headphones are working just fine on both sides.
So I also guess the speaker is faulty. Maybe I should wait for the Lollipop update, see if it changes anything?
Edit:
Tried rebooting in safe mode and cleaning the cache partition. No effect whatsoever...

[Q] No sound in call, only speaker call/earphone works

Hi all, Someone have this problem?
I'm facing this 'no sound in call, only speaker call/earphone works' issue.
Even for media playback there is no sound in loudspeaker mode(Mx player, Youtube app,radio..) but earphones work.
So I'm trying to factory reset it won't work.
Thanks in advance for any help / advice you can off!

Wow, l am Nexus 5 owner and I have exactly the same fault. No fix as yet on the nexus. Was thinking about the moto x and came to check what issues the phone has. I suspect this is a universal android bug. I have done some googling and found at least half a dozen phones with this issue. It's like a virus.
Sometimes this can be caused by a defective headphone plug, tricking the phone into thinking something is plugged in when it's not.

Help with sound issue

Hope somebody can help please? My Zuk Z2 Pro has lost the earpiece sound when on a phone call. People can hear me, but I cannot hear them. I am sure its a software problem but not sure how to permanently fix it.
I ran a manual engineering test by typing *#*#1111#*#* and checked the speaker and the microphone in settings, they are fine. However, the ‘Rec’ setting wont play any sound to the earpiece.
I have read its a known issue and installing the app mswitch (keycut) worked, but it didnt. I then read about switching off "OK Google", well on a Zuk this is not easy to find, so am not even sure I was able to disable this app.
EDIT: After more investigation I have found that when I turn the voice volume up in ringer settings it does nothing, which I think may be the speaker itself. My wife has the same phone and hers works normally. There are three ringer volumes, and the middle one does nothing but I know it did yesterday
I then tried another app called "Soundabout". This worked and allowed the Rec setting in the engineering side of the phone to play a sound, like an increasing oscillalation of sound. I then restarted the phone and it worked, but not permanently. The app doesn't seem to stay working.
However, when I made a phone call the earpiece speaker still didnt work. I could not hear anybody but they could hear me.
However, it does work when headphones are plugged in.
Does anyone know if a factory reset of the software would help as I am stuck and desperate for help. It just suddenly stopped working yesterday, so am puzzled as to why. The phone is just less than 12 months old, so not particular aged and it has always been in a case and well looked after. Its running stock Android 6 with the ZUI overlay from Zuk, so no changes made to it.
I have de same problem. Two months ago the speakers decreased the volume and microphone does not work properly.
I replaced the usb + mic piece, but the problem remains the same. Now, I have ordered speakers piece, but I guess the problem will continue.
The only thing I can think is the origin of the issue could be the bluetooth earphones that in some way had changed the sound configuration.
Try to qfil ZUI 1.9, if that does ot help then its hardware problem most likely.

Finally I have found the origin of the problem. It was in the dust filters of the phone. I used an special liquid for the screen protector. Some of this liquid goes to the filters. I have cleaned this filter with a brush teeth.
It is silly and I feel dumb.
Simple fix
Please do not feel dumb or stupid as this is something we don't think about.
The problem is due to dust and fabric accumulation. I just had this problem.
The fix is simple.
Use something soft to bang your receiver. In my case i used the tip of my finger. You want to the bang to be good but not to break the glass. My finger hurts a bit so I think a small rubber hammer will do the job.
Hope this helps.
Clean earpiece protector
Hi, I had the same issue and after trying all software tweaks with no success, what I have done is use a toothbrush to clean the tiny holes from the earpiece protector. I pushed some brush bristles gently through the holes and... it worked!!!
Hope it helps.
