What is the cover for? - Samsung Gear VR

What is the plastic cover for that snaps onto the front? Does anybody use it?

It's so people don't look stupid with a phone strapped to thier face I guess. Never use it myself

Mine still has protective plastic on it

Think it should be modified to fit a small cooling fan. Maybe that will help with the overheating. Lol

Someone already tried it and doesnt work. If you turn power sawing mode it wont overheat and performance during playing videos is not affected (untill you don't play 4k 360° videos, 2k is not problem).

Taking silver off Samsung note N7000

A bit off the general topic,
Anyone got any suggestions how to take the silver coating off the casing of the N7000 sides without actually damaging the plastic underneath?
Mines coming off and I would prefer to taken it off?

My recommendation is not to do it - it will leave a black, matt plastiky finish. If you did want to do it, use a fine sandpaper, then very fine sandpaper to smooth it out, then rub oil on it to give it a lustrous finish.
mine is coming off and its so ugly..

As said above use the smallest sand paper you can find and get it off.
I'd now recommend it though... As you could easily damage your phone...
I took it off and it looks great, probably better than before.
Used my wife's nail buffer. Started off with the fine sand paper side. Then moved to the finer side. Finally used the polisher side. It's smooth and there are no scratches anywhere. My buddies couldn't even tell that it was a home job. People asked whether i got a new phone that's how good it came out.
Went through 2 nail buffers but they are so cheap it didn't matter. Probably took me 4 hours while I was watching TV.
Depending on what nail buffer you use, max $4 in total. Cant really see how you could damage the phone as the grit is so fine.

Camera ring

OK so today I pulled my phone out of my pocket and oddly enough, the silver ring around my lens was stuck to my case. (I like to keep my phone protected. Sue me.) It was glued on (cheaply) and wasn't even metal.
Has anyone else had this happen?
Sent from my LT30p using xda app-developers app
No, my ring is intact
Same happened to me, after 2weeks. Now the back is ugly
I dont use a case btw, i dont know when.i t fell of, it was just gone.

I lost the ring at the audio Port. Luckily I'm getting a new one in a few days (due to a other malfunction in the device which they can't fix, so I'm just getting a new one xD)
Now I'm hoping it will still have unlockable boatloader!

I pulled my phone out of my pocket yesterday to find the camera ring stuck to my finger, grrrr it is just cheap plastic, I was able to stick it back on at the time but fear the initail adhesive has been comprimised it will only be a matter of time before this disappears. But to me fair I dont think the phone with the ring missing affects the asthetics of the device in too significant a way.
I agree completely on this. The phone is beautiful enough, IMO. The ring is simply an accessory. I was just wondering who else has had this happen.

The 'metal' ring around the camera lens of my Xperia T fell off too. Unfortunately, I didn't notice it happen, so it's now missing.
I contacted Sony Support via a web chat - they wanted me to send it in for service, but it is too much hassle for a cosmetic problem - I was hoping they could send me a replacement part that I could fit myself.
I think what happened is the phone got warm while in use - this would heat the glue up and cause the adhesive to loosen.
In My Xperia T also the camera ring is missing.... Where to buy it.... ?

Same just happend to me today
i do still have the plastic ring though. Maybe going to try super glue it (hoping i don't spill any on the lens )

Got Mine
I just ordered mine from Amazon. I wear my watch on the inside of my wrist, but have gotten 1 minor scratch, so for $6.00, a little peace of mind. I used to get them for all my phones, but since I keep it in my shirt pocket, it doesn't get as much abuse as my watches do.

Aren't those wet applications? There's a thread that talks about fog buildup in the lens due to moisture: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2477441

I just ordered one of these that include body protection http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Skinomi-...t=US_Cell_Phone_PDA_Cases&hash=item1e812e366a
, I dont know how durable the watch is yet.
I've been using a screen protector for my gear since the day I got it. Cut out of a large piece that I had for my iPad. What I noticed is that the ones I have seem to have issues with the fact the watch face is slightly curved.
It still works, but might come off after a while. I used a wet application type one as well (best skins ever) and it worked really nicely. You just gotta be careful when the charger cradle is connected to it as there seems to be some pressure exerted and causing the film to bubble upwards sometimes, and eventually causing it to become really ugly.
My thoughts are the best screen protector for the watch would be those sticky type that has some adhesive on it, something like those I used back in my Palm Pilot days.

Can i ask, did the wet application cause any issues with your watch? I saw the full protection version that Skinomi is selling. I think it looks ok, but I also know the watch has issues with moisture.

Just fitted my screen saver. Bought from Amazon. Kwmobile. Very good quality, in fact superb but the watch face is curved so is the crystal so the screen saver sticks up at both ends.
Absolute waste of money. I went and bought three of them as I know from years of experience with these things how much they vary in quality and ease of application. I am now stuck with three screen savers that are no good to man nor beast!
Back to the drawing board on this one.
In terms of mobile phones though if Kwmobile make screen protectors for mobiles I would use them, they just dropped a brick with Gear.
Ho-hum.

No worries can do : ) Has anyone else noticed very very fine scratches on your screen? only visible in the right light and angle, I work in an office and the only thing that has come in contact with my screen is my sleeve, no buttons just material from my business shirt. So i have cut out a screen protector. I noticed the scratches after day 1 of use :S

During the time I used the wet application film on the watch, I did not notice any issue with condensation or problems. The only problem I found was the fact that the charging cradle seem to have really tight tolerances. So the film gets bubbled up every time I charge the phone. Eventually that ruined the film and I reverted back to my home made Spigen. Done properly most people won't know there's something covering the watch. I've got the Spigen covering the front face and wet application film covering all the metal parts
You can see the hair like scratches, is anyone else experiencing the same?

Dust under screen?

Hi, I'm contemplating buying this phone. I know it's dust-tight but does that mean the electronic internals are, or everything, including the screen? I know Super AMOLED and Super Clear LCD have no air gap so can't get dust under the touch panel but I've seen an S4 Active in the "flesh" and I saw gaps round the bezel of the phone where the glass meets the plastic (like every Samsung I've had) and I worry that dust might get in there and under the touch panel (into the actual LCD). Anyone every had a dust problem with this?

I work at a body shop (very dusty all the time)and can confirm u will not be getting any dust! Main reason for buying I537.

Same here...I drive a truck in a very dusty environment, phone is left in a holder on dash, all day long. So far no dust under screen or under back cover. Ive had phone for 2 months now.
Thanks for your replies Just had another go on one in a phone shop. It's a beauty. I only wish it did slow motion like the S4 But it's waterproof and that's brill!

M8 rear camera cover scratches

So, I've had my m8 for a month and a half maybe, with a spigen slim armor case on it at all times. After cleaning my rear lens cover yesterday ( with a soft microfiber cloth) I noticed many small scratches right above the lens area.. Seriously?? I am super careful with my phone, considering I'm really into mobile photography as well. Is the cover made out of plastic?? Whenever I had whipped it in the past, always used extreme care. I can't believe that it's scratched.. Really bums me out that htc would use such weak materials to cover the camera lens. Other than that, the phone is great, no doubt. I can't imagine what it's going to look like in 6 months though.. Any others noticed the same ?

After reading some threads like this I ordered a protector to cover both lenses. Wish I could remember the name now, but you get 2 sets for $3 and I've not seen any effect in pictures. God I wish I could remember the name. Would search but late for work.
Edit: Slickwraps.com
do you guys have cases cuz i have a
OB and mine are fine!
Mine!
I do not use a case, my preference.
My camera window is also scratched with a lot of micro scratches.
My question is, if people are replacing the windows, where are they purchasing the part from? Anyone have a link to a replacement parts site?
I use a tpu case . this is the only smart phone I've had that had this issue and I've owned a lot .

stop putting your phone in your pocket often
I actually was able to remove scratches...I sprayed resurfacing fluid from a CD scratch repair kit then put a dab of toothpaste on my fingertip and rubbed it in for about a min or two....scratches gone and pics are clear

After doing some additional research, I found many people having the same issue, that is possibly caused by heating, resulting in the coating not sticking correctly. There is also the assumption that the protective coating was never removed when manufacturing/assembly. I noticed that with slight pressure with just my fingernail on the front camera , same thing happens.. the coating scratches. And btw (for who thinks this is the cause) having the phone in your pocket has zero effect on this issue. I baby my phone , and always have a case on it, and would never put in anything else. Glad there is a simple fix, by removing the coating. However, a good idea would be to purchase a lens protector from slickwrapes just in case.

Yup, got mine almost done too.. Need a little extra work around the edge, and it's all clear again. I was really bummed out about this until I found out that there was a solution. I love my M8 once again lol. Looks like the front camera has the same thing as well.

Well yes, but idk how they got there. My front camera and duo lens were the ones affected. I always have a case on and never have put my phone in any pockets. Only idea I have is cleaning my phone, in which I clean the lenses but shouldn't "scratch" from that. Just seems like a cheap clear coat that easily removes.
