I've sent this device away for repair twice and both times it's come back with a OEM Rom, so I followed the original unlocking guide (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=433835)
Got up to step 3 - 1 (removing the battery SD and SIM Cards) put the battery back in and now it's not booting, no lights or anything, not even on charge.
Does this make any Sense to anyone? (I Might add I skipped Flashing HardSPL before copying the files) but I don't see how that will brick it as I haven't used the files yet.
I'll also add, that it's been randomly turning off too.
Anyway, Suggestions please?
Thinking about sending it under warranty again, 3rd Time, should I get a free phone?
Cheers Guys
Bricked eh?

Many HTC official repairers will do that and if it's under warranty, being caught running an unofficial ROM would be enough to void your warranty on the spot as it's counted as modifying the device.

Have you considered that there may be a connection problem between the battery terminals and spring connectors? Don't try and bend the spring connectors to contact the battery more - look to clean the connections with a cotton bud and contact cleaner or IPA/video head cleaner (only getting cleaner on the contactors/terminals). Looking clean isn't enough as invisble to the eye contamination can cause problems like this (along with a faulty battery as another possible cause).
Anyway, Suggestions please?

Oh I see these were warranty repairs. You should buy a lottery ticket then. If you do take it in under warranty with a non-standard ROM a third time and they still fix it under warranty, your odds are probably the same as winning
Good evening ladies and gentlemen.
I have received my Z1 day before yesterday, it is a great phone with amazing performance BUT
While taking some pictures, phone refused to continue, apparently it was too hot. I will post a screenshot.
Then when I connected to a original charger, xperia told me that the source is insufficient and my phone won't charge fast enough.. (i might have been playing some games, but still, original accessory). Is this ok?
I have heard that some Z1 phone have included screen protector mine did not have it. Other info I read is that there is one already installed, I can't see anything on the device though. And what about voiding warranty when removing it?
And is there a way to root phone (without unlocking bootloader) and voiding warranty?
Thank you guys for your answers and have a great day

There is a factory fitted screen protector, you can feel the edges of it at the very edge of the screen with your fingernails.
You will not void warrenty by removing it, I normally do remove it from xperia phones (Its difficult but can be done with your fingernails) but I have not done it yet on my Z1

Yes, just look in the two threads about rooting in the dev section.
Don't forget, rooting is different to unlocking

The protector pre-installed to the screen is not a scratch protector. It is a shatter protector, and scratches easily. It is also where the 'SONY' logo is printed, and removing it does invalidate your warranty.
It is recommended a screen protector is installed over the top of this shatter protector.

I have never had a problem with this.
Infact I removed this from my xperia T as soon as I got it. then several months later I dropped the phone flat onto its face onto a metal spike and screen shattered.
I got a free replacement under warrenty and no mention of the protector being removed.
I also, have never read in any of my contracts about warrenty being invalidated if its removed.
I also keep my phone in my pocket with loose change and car keys with no screen protector or case and have neve had a scratch or anything. the only time I had an issue was when I dropped it, and trust me, the way it was dropped, and what it landed on, it would not have mattered if it was srapped in bubble wra, it would still have shattered

Thats false, removing the shatter protector that comes pre-installed doesnt void your warranty
I got the information from the Email from Sony in the below post. Did they give false information? It'd be nice to know for sure, just in case I need to remove mine down the line!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=40603775
That's not an email you got from sony,
that's a post from someone on xda.
Please read your contract.
I downloaded warranty guide (for UK and Slovakia) from sony web site and I didn't found anything about shutter protector :-/
So, to sum it up..
1. Screen
- there is screen protector pre installed
- we do not know for sure if removing it will void my warranty
- it is recommended to put another screen protector over it
2. Root
- If I avoid unlocking bootloader it will not void my warranty.
- there is how to on XDA already
3. Overheating while taking pictures
- no info so far here
- am I really the only one with issue?
4. Charging
- again the only one? (happened only once, is it reason to contact telekom?)
Thank you guys for your answers

You might want to update your firmware to .534.. It fixed any heat issues for me and my phone runs pretty cool even when I took 20 shots in a row
overheating z1
ok youre not the only one
i just bought my z1 3 days ago and all was fine.
until today, i spent 30mins playing with chrome and taking pictures and the back of the z1 got extra hot.
The camera didnt work anymore, was showing the overheat warning as you posted in here.
I wonder if this an issue with the mobile or is it a firmware problem ?
Lemme know if u have any solutions
Thanks

I havn't really done extreme things with my phone but it gets kinda hot, which i see as normal compered to other phones, is there any app or something like that, that might overheat your phone?
Had some problems with my Z1. Heated extremly, undervolted it and have know no problems and longer battery life.

Well i am not sure, but can a phone overclock by itself? Cuz' if so than that might be the problem, if you have root you can try to download some app in google play and try to "underclock" and see if that helps, if it helps it might be that your phone is overcklocking by itself

why should it overclock by itself? i never heard about this. i am not rooted no, since its a new mobile, i dont wish to root it yet.
I think sony should urgently look at this issue before we seriously burn the hell out of it

A couple of weeks ago I noticed that my power button felt different on my Z1. At first I thought it was my imagination, but more and more I was sure something wasnt right.
Last week on the way to work, my colleague who also has a Z1 used my phone to look at something and his first comment was "Whats up with your power button??"
It has no definite feeling when pressing it, its almost impossible to tell if you have pressed it or not, it looks and feels recessed too.
When trying his phone it was exactly as I remembered it to be, when you push it you can feel as response (small click or resistance), on mine there is nothing!
So I contacted Sony Xperia, who were suprised by the described issue. Long story short I have to return the phone to them for a 5 - 7 day turnaround repair.
Anyone else had the same issue? Or even sent their phone back to Sony in the UK? I am a little concerned that once it is prised open to be repaired it will never be the same again! All in all, for the £550 I paid for a premium handset, it is the first one that I have had any hardware issues with.

Mine do not come back yet, I sent it back via warranty 2 weeks ago. I will let you know. Anyway Sony Service have to provide best service for your phone and it should be still under warranty even when the phone come back to you but in which condition this is a mystery for all of us.

I think is needed a experience because you have to take apart all phone and I will suggest to let do this job to Sony. And of curse it will have to be seal again to make the water resistance working again. If you do all of this the warranty will be gone.
An update on mine, it got worse and now has been sent back for warranty repair at Sony, well they use a company called SBE Ltd in the UK
I'm not very impressed to be honest, this is the first phone I've had to return to the manufacturer for repair, this was meant to be a quality product. So there is at least 3 people with the same problem, maybe more who haven't noticed. Potentially there is an issue with the design or button component.
In so cheese off as I have to use a crappy Nokia Lumia 800 Windows phone for the period it is away!
I have been looking at a Nexus 5 or Note 3 as a replacement, selling mine on eventual return from repair..
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium HD app
I'm having issues with my volume down rocker. It is much harder to press then volume up it also doesn't have the clicking sound volume up gives when you press it. Of course I'm within my return window so I'm waiting for my replacement phone to get here so I can ship the one I currently have back
Sent from my Xperia Z1s

at first i have rooted my phone so the warranty is already gone..and Because I live in Iran and there is no experienced or official Sony branches to do the stuff i have to pay a lot of money to ordinary people who have the tools for doing it and praying really hard to have my z1 remained water resistance..and another problem is that this button is very well designed and has a good material which it doesnt get gray or orange after a while.for sure the replacement doesnt have the same great quality and thats a failure :|

Ok, but if the button still working I think is not worth to open it and risk much more, BTW is not the button problem but the hardware component under the button.
Z1 button issue
I'm from India and have the same problem with the button. I bought Z1 around October last year. The button started getting worse gradually from the beginning of January, and now there's absolutely no feedback on pressing. It almost feels as if there's a spring under the button.
If anyone has given the phone for repairs to Sony for this issue, please reply. I'm also worried about the waterproofing and other possible damage to the device, specially given the fact that it's got a non-removable back so opening up the device might be a mess.
I've seen a video on YouTube about the z
As far as the Z is concerned there are about 4 screws and the rest is glued. Front- and backside.
Now, you can guess if the phone is still waterproof after putting it back together.
Even with skilled techs and the appropriate equipment I highly doubt it.
Here is the link
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPN930fohyo&feature=youtu.be
It's a German video but I think the pictures speak for themselves.
Best thing you could do is to ask the repair center for a guarantee on wich you can depend on (written of course)

It can be forever if you use the device properly and you you keep in mind to don't use the flaps a lot and keep them clean. Flaps like that can do great job for 2 years without problem but time and natural degradation is on they way, so if you will replace the flaps after this time is fine to me. But if you keep leaving the phone in you car on dashdoard under the sun all the time clearly this can compromise the assembly and the sealing of the phone. So practically depend of how you use your phone.

Yes , opening the phone for a button will be a mess and maybe is not covered by warranty so if the button working well I will not be worry about it. The day when it will not work then you will get the new button.

I started this thread, it is definitely a problem and you should get it repaired. Mine was sent back and now has been repaired, not very impressive for a "premium" handset!
It was only away for just over a week.

I will tell you this next week.
Hi guys,
I got my XSP 17 days ago and it's already giving me this weird problem. I bought it brand new (well, I got it from a possibly shady reseller in Russia, but it looked new and un-tampered, I checked it carefully ).
It worked perfectly as my main phone for about two weeks (with the official stable CM 11) when suddenly, it started switching off by itself. When it first started doing this a couple of days ago, it would shut off randomly twice or thrice a day, but today it switches off about every 5 minutes. Sometimes it doesn't even complete the boot sequence before it turns off.
The effect is just about the same as pulling the battery out. One moment you're using the phone, the next moment the screen is blank. No vibrations, no errors, no lights, nothing. It can be turned on normally and works for a short while before turning off again.
I haven't been able to isolate the problem to any single use case - it turns off with and without the SIM, with/without the SD card, on airplane mode and off, with the screen on or off.
It turns off with every combination of CM11, CM12 and stock that I tried, with stock kernel, default CM kernel, William's kernel and Tangerine kernel.
Although I don't want to admit it, it looks like it's a battery problem. Perhaps the battery lost capacity sitting around in a warehouse for two years? Either that or I was duped by the place I got it from, which seems unlikely as it was spotless in its original packing with all the plastic bits covering the screen, camera and microphone, and a warranty sticker over a screw on the back. Besides, they've given me a one-year service guarantee (it's not the official Sony warranty, though).
Mine is the C5303 model.
Has anyone had this problem? Can anyone suggest what I could do about it? It's a great phone except for this problem
Thanks for any help!
EDIT: Sorry, I forgot to mention that this does not happen when connected to a charger or a computer. Only when running on battery.

Thank you for your response, but I've already tried that, to no avail. This makes me think it's definitely a hardware problem that's related to either the battery or the charging circuit.
However, a recent experiment I tried seems to contradict this. I left the phone on CWM recovery for about 40 minutes and it didn't switch off! I even ran a backup to add strain to the battery, but no, it stayed on.
This indicates that it might not be a battery problem - a battery problem should affect the phone in recovery as well as inside the Android OS.
One major difference between CWM and Android is that Android runs the radios, while a recovery has no need to. Could it be a chance bug in the radio firmware? Is there any way to reflash the radio firmware?

actually i never saw a radio firmware to flash ......but it's not a battery problem for sure ....maybe cpu can't handle the ROM running or like you said radio don't run in cmw then it mite be the cause of the problem
but anyway it's a hardware ...since you are flashing a stock ftf via flashtool then the radio shouldn't have any problems at all !
so you need to go to service center i think to repair it ...sorry for not finding an answer or a direct solution for your problem
good luck man :good:

but anyway it's a hardware ...since you are flashing a stock ftf via flashtool then the radio shouldn't have any problems at all !
so you need to go to service center i think to repair it ...sorry for not finding an answer or a direct solution for your problem
good luck man :good:

Thanks for your help. I think I was cheated and they deliberately sold me a faulty phone. I'm thinking of having my phone checked by an independent service center (for a price )
I have another question, if anybody can answer: what does the original guarantee sticker look like? Mine is the one in the attachment, stuck over the central screw.
I'm beginning to think that it's a fake sticker stuck by the shop that sold it to me

I don"t have this Sticker. The Sony Ericson Joint-Venture was ended Yeats before the SP came out... Looks like it is from another phone...
Anyway:
Cwm doesn't use a high current.
Because of stuff I can't explain in English, it could be possible the battery delivers enough Voltage but not enough current for booting up.
Although, it seems more likely to be a RAM error. Yeah, that can happen on phones too.
That would explain the very random behavior.
Cwm doesn't change anything in the RAM when it does nothing. That's why the error doesn't occur then.

You have a point. Looks like it's definitely a refurbished phone, then

AHA! Now this got me thinking. I flashed a fresh ROM without gapps, set the maximum processor clock to 384 MHz, turned down the brightness, switched off WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth, NFC, etc., and now it works perfectly fine without switching off! Looks like you're right, the battery can't produce enough current.
I can now reproduce the problem reliably by setting governor to performance @1.7GHz, turning up the brightness, switching on all the devices mentioned above and recording video. The moment I touch the button to stop recording, the extra strain caused by flushing the buffer to the memory causes the phone to switch off. Bingo! :good:
What does this mean? That the battery is weak? Or the charging circuit is wrongly cutting off the battery?
Thanks a lot for the info! Finally this thing is beginning to make sense. :highfive:

It means the battery is weak. I guess the phone itself should be fine.
When a bettery gets old, it can get a higher resistance. Yeah, batteries have a resistance too. In German it's called Innenwiderstand. Literally translated "inner resistance". It's the same effect like when your car's battery is old. Your stereo still gets its 12V, but trying to start the car will let the curcuit "die" for a few seconds.
The battery in the SP can be replaced, it's not that hard. There are some great videos on YouTube. Please don't buy a battery that is sold as original! Sony doesn't sell spare batteries for the SP. If it says original, it's used or fake.
Buy a battery from a seller who admits it is not from Sony. He is honest to you. Make sure it's a spare battery with good cells in it. Like Varta etc.

Thanks for the heads-up! I've called multiple repair centers and they've all told me they can give me original batteries. I'd better be careful, then!
Do you have any idea where I can order a good battery, or how I can identify which ones are good?
I will be in Eastern Europe next week, where it's easier to get deliveries from eBay, etc. I might even visit Germany! Any suggestions on how to find a battery are welcome.

That's the one I would buy. You see that this not-original battery is more expensive than the "fauxriginals"? There's a reason
You can buy elsewhere too. Make sure the seller has got many good ratings over a long period of time.
A few terrible ratings aren't a problem. There are always some noobs who break their spare parts and blame the seller.
E.g. on Amazon, look for many 4-star and 3 star ratings. They are real. Bought ratings are almost always 5 star ratings.
Don't buy where all ratings are 1 or 5 stars.
The capacity may differ from the original 2300mAh. 2100mAh to 2500mAh is fine. More than 2500mAh should be fake.
You can also buy on eBay where the seller admits it's a used battery in good condition.
I don't think you can buy this battery "" offline". If you do, make absolutely sure the connectors look like in the pictures in Amazon!
In Germany, there are lot Mobile Phone Shops with an Internet Café. Mostly, they are owned by Turks.
Usually, they have a good service. They can replace the battery for you for a few bucks. If you can't be served in one shop, they'll sometimes tell you where a shop is where they can help you.
Hope these information are useful

What do you think about this thread I bumped into? http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/accessories/polarcell-akku-1800mah-t1269918
Do you think there's a chance that my problem might be due to some other component other than the battery?

It's possible that it is caused by another component. We can't know. Buying a New battery is the cheapest option. I don't see another way to find out.
There are bad third party batteries too. But I trust someone who admits it's third party more. Just rely on the ratings...
Sorry, but I don't have any better advices.

Flash cm 12.1 only with gapps and supersu. Do not touch the kernel settings, dont make the phone overheat too much and try. Try to discharge the battery at 0% 2-3 times and recharge it with the stock charger and cable.
Can you install cpu z and tell us what voltage it reads when your battery si charged to 100% and disconnected from charger ?
It should be 4.2V i have my XSP for a year now and my battery reads 4.130V at 100%.
Solved!
Hi guys, I'm back from Europe.
I know it's been a really long time, but I just wanted to update the thread in case anyone else has the same problem and finds this thread.
Before leaving, I purchased a new "original" battery at a local shop (a pretty large scale distributor).
It looks identical to the battery that was already in the phone, and also identical to the batteries in all the videos I've seen on youtube. The SONY branding is covered by a thin plate of copper, but it's there, so I assume it's not fake.
It cost me 1300 RUB (~20 USD). There was a "Craftmann" branded battery also available, but it was 3x more expensive, so I didn't buy it.
Well, the phone works fine. In the past ~2 months, it hasn't turned off even once, and the battery lasts a day with decent use (~3h GPS guidance, ~1h FM transmitter, always connected to LTE, messaging and email, occasional calls), so I consider the issue solved.
Thanks to all who helped me!
I've been using this Xperia Z for about 2 years now, I haven't root it or anything like that. It started a few weeks ago after a drop (I'm not sure if it's related, the drop was quite mild compared to everything it has been through). The battery fell out, because I got the mic replaced from water damage and the technician did a lousy job gluing the backplate back on, I also removed it myself to help it recover from a second water damage a few months ago.
Now, the phone seems to be having problems with its USB port. Either that or it's a software problem. When I plug it in my wall charger, it detects its but won't charge until the battery is completely empty (htt p://postimg.org/image/z3lvehtxn/). No pc will detect it when plugged in via USB (MTP & MSC mode tried with and without USB debugging), so I can't flash any roms to it try to fix it, it has also been factory reset twice. Tried different chargers and cables, none of them made any difference.
Yes, I should probably get a new phone, but as a broke student I don't have a lot of money to spare
you can eliminate the possibility of a software related issue by flashing smth from the external sd card, even try flashing another kernel just to make sure, if not that then im sorry but it should be hardware
the drop was quite mild compared to everything it has been through

Well.... thats "mild drop"...
Not to mention that Battery is self is glued to housing(two peaces of double side tape, to be more precise) and everytime when I had to mess with internal of XZ it was actually pain to remove it without brutal force.
Other thing worth mentioning is that battery on XZ is really... sensitive, especially controllers inside battery and pins on connector. Even slightly damage can totally brick your phone.
And microUSB connector? Its hard to tell, but I can say that connector is self is not damaged, because as you mentioned, PC detect is without a problem, the same with charger. In terms of durability I can say that microUSB port on XZ is actually one of best I encounter. Its damn hard to damage it as far as you dont put there screwdriver..
I can say that fist of all, as @aaronkatrini mentioned back up what you need, and then flash new clean rom, if problem is still there, its probably battery it self or one of controller that was damaged. In the first case, new battery should cost about 10-15Euro(original) in second case you are more screwed because cost of repair/new board is unprofitable.
Also taking in to the account that XZ new cost now about 120Euro(I love that price falls of phones jump from 600 to 120 in less than 3years...) I could say that you can buy BETTER phone for 120-150Euro, even Xperia Z1Compact or Xperia Z2 cost 150-200Euro.
Student or not, 150euro is not much if you use phone for work so with small savings you could buy it in less than two months, and trust me, Xperia Z1Compact still can kick ass even if it have smaller screen.

Maybe it's time for a new phone.
The guy who repaired my phone took the battery out and didn't even glue it back on, so it comes off easily. All the pc I tried to connect it to won't detect the phone, so it's impossible to flash it with a PC. Is it possible to flash a new rom with an SD card? I remember doing so with an Acer A500 to fix a wifi issue and it worked.
