Camera issue: Dents on every pic - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I would like to know if anyone of you faced such a issue and if yes then is it a hardware issue or a software issue? I have got this since last week. There are two dents at the right side corner(portrait)/ top left corner (landscape) on every pic. I'm worried about this. any help?

It's hardware. Most likely dirt on Glass lens cover, lens itself or sensor...

I would be surprised. Sensor dirt does not usually look that "clean". It's more of a shadow. This might be dirt on the inside of the lens (i.e. the side that you can't get to by wiping the back of the phone).
ETA: Note, my experience is with DSLRs. The much shorter lens-to-sensor distance could nullify my statement. Upon closer inspection this looks like some sort of fuzz (thread or something), again likely inside of the camera assembly whether it's on the lens or on the sensor.

You can't really see the lens as it's inside the phone behind the lens cover.

I think there is little bit dust particles on lens (Inside the camera glass)

I had he same issue, except mine was a black dot. There was 0 dust on the lens and I thoroughly cleaned it and the issue persisted. I even flashed back to stock which didn't fix it. This was on my very first Nexus 6 that was made in Oct 14 so I called Moto and got a RMA replacement.

Well I'll have to take it to service centre. Crap

camera problem

hello.
I've noticed that in all my pictures (and in the camera application) I have a black dot on the low right corner (photo attached).
Did any of you had similar problems? I think something is wrong with the camera.
I've also recently got a splodge from the images from my camera...though mine looks like a glass chip...
This may seem like a silly question, but have you removed the battery cover and taken a picture to see if it's a blemish on the cover? Also, if it's still there with the cover removed, try cleaning the actual lense (delicately) and see how it looks. It's worth a shot.
yes, i've tried those. I think is something with the sensor, or under the interior lens.
after further inspection, i can see a spot on the interior lens... but i can't clean it. I think it's a scratch (might have dropped it once).
can I do something to change/clean this lens?

Must be a big scratch for the spot to appear that large in the images...
I wonder if vaseline would help. I use a bit of the stuff for some scratches on my PC's LCD monitor. Works wonders. Not sure if it'll work with lens scratches though...

Considering the actual size of the lens, and the fact that its seems to be on the lens itself, I don't think it would take much to cause a dot of that size.
Mine also appears to be internal. Looks like a rather large dust particle is resting on the lens under the glass. Though oddly, the focus on the splodge always appears the same, regardless of the depth of focus in the shot...
Been itching for an upgrade, seems my phone realises this....

Dust in front facing camera

Hey guys, I'm having a massive problem with dust in my front facing camera. It renders it practically unusable, everything looks white when I switch to the front facing camera.
Any ideas on how to remove the dust? I don't even have any idea how it got in. Best bet is through the ear piece I guess.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
not sure if it will help you
but for most of my high end cameras i use a Giottos Rocket blower to get rid of the dust in most parts
Thing is, is behind a glass piece sigh

arghh! this seems very problematic since unless you dismantle the Note, it will be nearly impossible to wipe the dust. Didn't you use a protective cover and screen protection from the beginning or the dust was present the 1st day you got the Note?

Thats the thing. I dont remember if it was present the day I bought it. Yeah I did use a protective cover. You guys don't have a problem with dust in the front camera?
Maybe it's a fault? Can you physically see the dust on the glass in front of the camera? Mine looks clear like this image:
http://i-cdn.phonearena.com/images/reviews/108271-image/Samsung-Galaxy-Note-LTE-Review-Design-16.jpg
You probably can take it to warranty Samsung service and say it never worked.
I don't use a protective cover and have had no dust issues. I've noticed some dirt/dust getting into the back cover area which i just blow out occasionally. Maybe if you clean/blow out those areas and ports it might dislodge any debris?

Yes, I can physically see the dust. The front facing camera is greyed over. Sighh
Well if you're feeling adventurous, you can dissemble the Note yourself and clean it. There are a few tutorials on youtube under "disasemble galaxy note" such as this one:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UFDr3PQMTxw
It doesn't seem that hard and you don't need any special equipment.
This definitely sounds like a clear cut warranty claim case.
Nothing is supposed to be able to enter that little space in front of the camera if the phone has not broken or been broken since day one. Thats my point of view anyway.

I followed the video and dissembled the phone. Luckily it all went well and I was able to remove all the dust. The front camera is working perfect now. Thankss!

Just a generall concern...shouldn't the warrenty cover a scenario like this?

I had same problem, and also eventually dissasembld to clean. I did otice (prior to dissassembly) that the glass screen was slightly loose against the chrome bezel at along the top edge (i.e. where the earpiece & front cam are located). pressing on that edge (particularly at the RHS near the cam) there was some "give" - i.e. you could push the glass and it would depress into the bezel by 1mm-2mm and then spring back up.
I suspect that is why dust has ben able to enter. Unfortunately, after cleaning and reassembly, the same "give" is still there. I'd hoped that it was just a badly assembled unit and that it would now be properly sealed, but no joy.
did/does your phone have a similar issue by any chance?
Also, I did the cleanout yesterday, same day as I upgraded to ICS (UK CPW XXLQ2 baseband XXLPT). I'm now noticing terrible wifi/cell radio performance (lost 25% battery in 45 mins just browsing with min screen brightness, lots of wifi dropouts, loads of heat dissipating to rear of case). This in same place (my bed!) as I always surf same sites every morning and where on Gingerbread I'd have no dropouts and my battery drain would be minimal (<5%).
Again, I'm wondering whether ICS is to blame or whether I've somehow messed up during reassembly (maybe poorly reconnected one or more of the ribbon connectors leading to the radio chip?). Have you noticed any difference in Wifi/cellular reception since reassembly?
Battery drain and wifi performance continued to be terrible, so I took it apart again and reassembled once more, this time with greaer care. I think I had done a bad job 1st time round as it's now got much better wifi signal, back to how it was originally.
Battery drain is slightly better too but still much worse than on GB but I think that is just a defect of the stock ICS, just coincience that I did the ICS install same day that Itook the note apart.
Did anyone try to blow out the dust and did that work?
I'm not to keen to pick the phone apart for it.

Camera Foggy?

Just noticed when outside (It's winter here) if I am using the camera the lens fogs on the inside. However if I am not using the camera it stays fog free!.
Anyone know what this could be?
EDIT: Could the auto focus be causing some sort of air to move between the camera and the glass? Causing the difference in temp to fog up? Or maybe the heat inside the phone when the camera is on vs the cold winter weather is causing it.
ALL INPUT IS WELCOME!

Does anyone have this issue. Seems like the backside of the camera glass fogs up and makes all photos blurry.

Hi, moisture from the warmer air inside the lens is condensing against the cold glass to cause the 'fog'. I am not sure how to prevent this though, in very cold weather.

Yeah the thing is I have an S2,S3 and S4 in the house and non of them do the same. This only happens when the camera is in use. Faulty?

Could it be because the Galaxy models have a plastic lens cover where the HTC One is glass?

Good point, that would be the issue because plastic doesn't get as cold as glass. Still not good though, doesn't solve the issue.
Could you test yours. Open the freezer with the camera on and let some of the cool air pass over the lens (not for long maybe 10 seconds) Do not stick it in the freezer . Does the lens fog?

It didn't fog, and I've put phones in the freezer before to combat thermal throttling on benchmarks ;D

Did you make sure to have the camera app open. For me I am recording video for it to fog up. Try while recording video and report back
Cheers.
Confirmed fogginess in cold temps, design flaw?

Would you expect the cover to come with a little screen wiper or perhaps an integrated heater?

Possibly, I was more thinking it should be plastic not glass. Would surely be cheaper than integrating a 'wiper' into the design? Maybe a heater direct from the CPU would work.

Fog inside the Camera = condensation. Pretty sure camera optics don't like that.
Hi,
Same problem here.
Yesterday I brought my new HTC One to a restaurant to test the camera. When I launch the camera app and snapped one or two pictures I found it looked as if there was some white mist in front of the object. I first thought it was some auto exposure issue and didn't take it seriously. But then the same "mist" appeared when I attempted to take some more pictures. And now the screen becomes whiter and whiter! I realized something wrong, so I looked at the back of the phone and observed some white fog on the camera cover. I tried to wipe it off but didn't work - the fog is INSIDE the camera cover!
It's around 20-23°C in the restaurant. And I suspect this is caused by the heat produced by the camera module inside the phone.
When the fog appears, you can do nothing. The fog won't go away unless you quit the camera app (theoretically it may go away when the environment gets warmer, or the humidity suddenly decreases).
But I am still confused -
1) This didn't happen to my previous phones. OK I didn't use a lot of smartphones, but I didn't experience this issue when I was using my HTC Desire and Galaxy Nexus.
2) Shouldn't there be some measure taken in the manufacturing process to prevent this from happening? For example -- take a wild guess -- shouldn't there be some anti-fog coating that can be applied to the cover?

Camera smudges

has anyone experienced this issue with their Xperia Z rear camera? I tried wiping and washing the camera lens but the smudges are still there.

Yep, same here. Though I only have one "hole" in my pictures (in the upper right corner):
[EDIT] I just spotted another one in the upper middle part.
I am wondering where these particles came from coz this model is advertised as a dust-proof one? Anyhow, I will claim the warranty later and I hope they will change the unit rather than repairing for it is still less than 3-week old.

I am not aware of anyone running into this issue before. If you set it on a rough surface or a surface with granules of sand, then that could definitely be the culprit. As far as replacing the lens goes, there is currently no way to get a hold of a replacement lens as far as I know.
If you mean the inside phone part then you'll have to replace the entire camera part. If you mean just the part that you can touch with your finger then you'll need to replace the back glass.
I'm having the same issue, there are some spots on top of the lenses on my phone that won't go away and *all* my photos are have the white color over exposed plus focusing is never sharp enough like other phones, I bought the phone the way it is now and I'm going to replace the back glass to see if it helps.
