Hello, im new here and i have searched the forums and looked in google of how to revert to stock. If i understand correctly, having CM 7.1 i need to:
-Revert to EXT3?
-Download stock ROM?
-Use smartflash tool to instal stock ROM?
The reason i want to flash to stock is because CM camera video performance is getting worse and worse and i need it.
Yes. Those are the right steps to install stock rom.
thank you,i hope i dont brick my phone
The only person that can brick your phone is you. This is just a forum not a work place and we didn't sell bricks.

You can skip step 1. You don't need to revert to ext3 if you're going to smartflash, only if you're going to restore a backup or install a ROM via CWM.
I have made a backup from CwM before install CM7
Can i apply the backup again to the stock rom?
I did this but first I had to do backtoext3 (thanks for Paul obrien) and then flashed my backup. I'd obviously say do a backup of your current rom before you do anything!

[GT-I9070] Unble to root
Hello guys, hope you are well.
As I have less than 10 post, I came here to Q&A to seek for some assistance. The problem is that I cannot root my Samsung S Advance (GT-I9070), I am trying to do so with the method mentioned in the quote below. Basically, when I am in the "Recovery Mode" and when I go to the external storage to open the .zip file, the .zip file is not there...
Any clues?
Model Number:
GT-I9070
Android Version:
4.1.2
Baseband Version:

Build Number:

I finally managed to root JB. It is a hassle free process. No kernel changing required.
It doesn't increase the binary counter.
Download here : Root
How to :
1. Download the zip and place it in the root of your sd card.
PS : SD Card is a must.
2. Reboot to the stock recovery.
3. Select install update from external storage.
4. Select the root.zip file.
5. Viola
Enjoy your rooted JB.
Note : This method has been derived from a method to root SGS2. Thanks to Phil3759 and his thread.

Put that zip in the root of SD Card, not in some folder you have there.

Repartition your external SD card. http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/SD_card_partitioning
It is not formating, it is partitioning. Ofcourse backup files from it first.

Hi thank you for the help!
I have found the following app that might do it just with the cellphone:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sylkat.AParted
Going to try it out!
EDIT:
I just finished rooting with the method posted. Thank you for the help, I do not understand why my previous FAT partition did not recognized the .zip file. I tried the method using the MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition and worked as a charm.
Thank you for everything
Regards!

noob to rooting
hello, I am a complete noob to rooting.
Although i have my s advance ( on stock jelly bean now ) since more then 2 years now, its only now that i have decided to install a custom rom ( kitkat 4.4 , cyanogenmod 11 to be precise ).
I have been reading around and have seen many people flashing new roms losing their imei no, efs, etc and also may sites advising making a nandroid backup of my current stock rom in case i want to return to it. And that we need to root our device to make up a nandroid and to back up our efs and imei no, etc.
Have also read thtat to go back to stock ROM after rooting, Supersu ( already comes with the package needed to root ) can help me do it just by clicking some buttons ( as easy as that )
So I had decided to root my device to get all the above and came to Shaan`s thread describing how to root s advance. And i read about this temp CWM recovery bit and need to partition my drive, etc.
Now my questions are
a) what is this temp CWM and what is the difference between temp CWM and permanent CWM?
b) Can I make a nandroid backup using the temp CWM?? And can i recover my stock rom if i need to get back to it?
c) Do i need to make a partition using this temp CWM? If so can i go back to the state of stock ROM when i want to revert to it?
d) CAn i make two different backup recoveries ? one of stock ROM and second of debloated rom ( i would like to get rid of samsung apps .
e) Where does the nandroid backup / recovery get stored on the phone?? on internal memory or external memory?? ( i have only a 1 gb micro sd card )?
f) after rooting and doing all of the above can i flash cm 11 kitkat rom or i need to get to unrooted status to do that??
Thanks in advance for the answers and sorry for all the noob questions.
Noob to android - no answers for my questions?

To answer of points a - e is here.
To answer the points f: to be rooted, and already installed CWM while. Or if you want to install a permanently CWM when the stock ROM, then you must install a custom kernel After that, you can flash the CM11 or AOSP ROM.

the link provided was really helpful in clearing a lot of things except
a) what exactly is the difference between temp cwm and permanent cwm. Can i make a backup ( make a nandroid backup ) and make a recovery of the same in case i want to revert to it afterwards ?? ( I understand i will need to install the temp cwm again to do so ).
But will it give me a back up to make that recovery ??
And thanks a lot TPD-21

Of course you can make a backup since the first of installing CWM-temporary, until the permanent CWM. So the conclusion is that: CWM installed while in the stock ROM can be made to:
a). Make nandroid backup.
b). Restoring a backup Custom ROM and stock ROM and of course it's also included CWM.
c). As long as your device is rooted, and as long as it also CWM temporary or permanent at the time still in stock ROM can still be alive and doing everything you want.
Hope it helps. ?

Need help
Hello, i'm newbie here, trying to learn some stuff, i searched the forum but i couldn't find it, i think this page is most appropriate to post it here.
Well i want to flash a custom rom, but my first attempt went not good for me. I've lost my imei and panicked, anyway by flashing stock sony rom i recovered it.
Now i unlocked my bootloader again (it was locked again after i flashed my stock firmware back), rooted my phone, and learned that nandroid app can make a full backup, and even i screw things up (except hard bricking i guess), that backup will save me. So i downloaded it made a full back up, but it says "back up type: clockwork or TWRP,"
And i heard that TWRP is not for Xperia Z1. Thats why i decided to not install it,
Then i installed clockwork rom manager, it said "this app requires clocwork recovery", but i couldnt find a appropriate version of clockwork recovery, the ones i found on play store were for android 4.0.4, and mine is 4.4.4
You guys probably understand that i know almost nothing about this stuff, (i have only got what i read form forums), so what should i do, which version of clockwork should i install or is there any other supported apps that i can use my nandroid backup?
Soka, i checked your link but couldnt be sure about which link should i click.
And another question, do i still need titanium backup while i have nandroid?
Thanks in advance
My device is C6903
4.4.4

CWM Recovery
There two methods:
1. Unlock your bootloader and flash a custom kernel (Bootloader Unlock is required for flashing custom roms which are not stock based; for example cyanogenmod)
-> with a custom kernel you have cwm and often twrp also.
2. check this out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z1/development/newroot-z1-t2807092
maybe you have to flash .108 kernel to use newroot, after rooting you can flash the actually kernel from your firmware....

Hi there bro...
In the Link ...
Check this out ...
http://prntscr.com/4ow7hp ... download the one the red arrow is pointing at. Unzip and run BAT file. When Prompted onscreen connect device to PC.
This will install recoveries and an app called NDR Utils. With this app you can choose the primary recovery of your choice.
I prefer using Philz...(CWM) based. Important rule i've always followed make backups ( Nandroid).
Hello everyone!
Haven't been on these boards for a while, but I thought it was time that I update my trusty razr to Kitkat. I'm very much a noob when it comes to these things, so I just wanted to make sure I had the process right and run it by the experts here, and hopefully clear things up for other people in my situation. Here goes!
*As of right now I'm on KREAT0R'S KTR-ROM, with CWM as my recovery*
1. Download retail Brasil stock rom
2. Flash stock rom over KTR through RSD Lite
3. Install TWRP over CWM through Flashify app
4. Restore the backup created by ManoBros on this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/razr-i/development/kitkat-motorola-razr-debloated-4-4-2-rom-t2941026
5. Success?
So, would this process work? Again, total noob here so please feel free to correct anything I *hypothetically* did wrong or missed. Thanks in advance everyone!

as you are in a unlocked bootloader and custom recovery
you only need install TWRP, ( i always install in FASTBOOT mode, ) is some like:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery TWRPrecovery.img
make a bakup of you data
and restore the KK backup.
Wow there's no way it's that easy! I was thinking that I'd need to flash stock Brasil first, since my Jb version is based on EU. Would I still need to flash the stock Brasil or just go straight to restoring the KK backup?
Many thanks for your thread by the way ManoBros, been waiting for KK update page w/ instructions!
just restore the kk backup, i come from KREAT0R'S KTR-ROM too..
if something wrong, then flash stock brasil and start again.
Okay! Just tried flashing Kitkat, and I can confirm everything works! Much easier than I expected, especially with the Flashify app. Many thanks!
Hey guys,

Search on P9 ROMs section for HWOTA7
Or older/simpler HWOTA - you will find instructions in Magic Rainbow v4 (also P9 ROMs section) - MR v3/v4 had clear instructuns how to go back to stock, applicable also to other P9 Nougat custom ROMs
Of course assuming that you don't want to go from Chinese Oreo back to Nougat - then the procedure is different but it is also clearly described in the corresponding HWOTA7 thread OP instructuns
