as of yesterday, my Moto G 2014 (bought thru Amazon last Nov.) doesn't boot anymore, not even to recovery.
It was never rooted.
Any advice before contact Motorola support? I don't want to loose any personal data.
Do you get any indication that it's charging when plugged in?
A screen should appear, the Motorola logo first, and then a graphic noting that the phone is being charged, and then the screen turns itself off. Please check if that happens.

I already sent it to Motorola, apparently it was an unknown hardware issue, i'll get a new one in a couple of days.

That's probably best. If it mysteriously came on, you'd still have to worry about it dying after the warranty period. Which it would almost surely do the day after the warranty expired.

A friend of mine had a Droid 3 for 19 months, with insurance and extended warranty. The power button stopped working and also caused the phone to have major issues. Given the extended warranty, they requested a replacement and were told there were no Droid 3's left. The system then defaulted to sending a Droid RAZR as a replacement. They got the RAZR in great condition. For those who still have a warranty and are having the issues and especially those who have gone through multiple D3's, you may want to check on replacement. It may have been a temporary shortage at the time but I thought I'd share.

The RAZR is a better device in most ways (faster, more ram, better screen, 4G connectivity, Jelly Bean upgradeable). It sucks for many to part with a keyboard but new devices seem to be phasing them out.
If you don't mind the lack of a keyboard then that would be a great replacement device considering Motorola is sending out a JB update with removed bloat and since 4.x Motoblur has been reduced to a basically AOSP feel.
Just asked today about a replacement for the wife's ancient Droid3. They're shipping another Droid3. Srsly?
I'm only getting it fixed because it had the coverage. Might as well have a new keyboard (spacebar died) before selling it off...
Looks like I'll be buying a Moto X outright in order to keep our unlimited plan.
STUCK!

Turns out the replacement was DEFECTIVE! Damned thing just randomly reboots. Tried all sorts of troubleshooting, but in the end even with just the factory ROM it would still randomly just reboot itself. Now I've got a SECOND return order in the system.
Of course, what's the first thing I get when I bring the old phone back online? A nag message threatening me with a $500 charge if I don't return the unit within 5 days. Phone tech indicated it's more like 30 days. Question is will I keep getting the threatening texts? Eff'in Verizon, what a clusterfck.
Yes, this too will be a Droid 3 replacement. I asked, given the dance they're putting me through, about getting at least something newer, no dice. At least not unless I wanted to give up my unlimited plan...

Hello, first off i love this phone. I'm only having one problem, it has froze when i have went to unlock it three times now. I'll slide the unlock button down to unlock it and it just sticks right there, i have to force a reboot to get it to work properly again. It did this one time in the morning making me late to work because the alarm didn't go off. Do i need to return the phone because this one is defective?
Thanx
I would definitely take it in. That's a serious issue and definitely not normal.
Ok that's probably what I'm going to do, i just wanted to see if this was a common problem that someone has fixed or not.
Same Problem
I'm having the same problem.
I went a couple days without it, but it is like the screen is off and will not turn on. I have to hold the power button to get it to reboot.
I was wondering if getting Lollipop will fix this. It is hard to see as a hardware issue.
Op, what did you do?
Thanks.
Brian
Same problem. Love the phone, but once a day it freezes. Screen is dark and have to reboot using power button hold.
Super annoying since the boot sequence includes loud music.
I have had this issue twice now. I'm out of the 14 day return period, and cannot afford to be going through insurance claims. Has anyone contacted Motorola, or Verizon about this?

I've had some serious freezes/lags as well. I've owned a Motorola Devour (don't laugh), Droid 1, Droid RAZR Maxx, Droud Maxx (unlocked, which I miss dearly), and now this underperforming behemoth. Its almost as if Motorola rushed this thing to market, with half-baked software. I sure as hell hope the next update comes soon, and addresses all of the shortcomings of the current release. One of the features I'm missing the most is the ability to talk and check emails/use the internet simultaneously, which I could do on both the RAZR Maxx and the Droid Maxx, because they had two radios, as opposed to only one in this one. VoLTE can't come to this device soon enough!

We aren't talking about lag. When we go to unlock the phone, it will show the Moto display, and then it will not load anything else. Then the fact that i have missed text that don't come in until I restart my phone means the phone hadn't been acting as it should for some time. This isn't a gripe thread, I actually really like this phone.
I've had my turbo since December. It would restart every now and then but now its getting ridiculous. I've wiped the cache many times and did an FDR. It hung right after it rebooted after the FDR. It seems to be getting worse. Any suggestions?
Thanks!
I'm sorry I can't be of much help man but I'd return it since you should still be under warranty. You've done all the things that should solve the problem so it seems the bug cannot be user fixed.
[Some Moto phones just seem to have the random reboot bug. My girlfriend's Droid Mini did the same thing... we just upgraded her to a Turbo.
I bought a new Turbo at the same time in March; it stopped charging three weeks later, just days after the exchange period expired.
The first "like new" replacement from VZWhad a spot where the nylon back wasn't properly attached and the rough edge was exposed. The second one, received days later, had the reboot bug. Even after a factory reset, it randomly rebooted.
The third replacement came directly from Moto. The Moto rep claimed it was provided as "like new" because it had been removed from the box by Moto techs, examined to make sure it worked properly, then reboxed without the charger and manuals. (He said the VZW replacements were display models or returns that bad been refurbished by the carrier.)
It seems to be free of functional and cosmetic defects. I've had the phone a few weeks and it's working fine.
Thanks guys. I think I may be returning this week. I appreciate the input.
Just thought i would post my experience with Motorola customer service. 6 months ago i did an "advanced exchange" with them and received a new device as the first one burned up the WiFi chip. No real issues there. Fast forward to a few weeks ago and my volume down button just stops working. Call in and get so much run around it was crazy. It all stemmed from they said that my IMEI number was not in their system. Well i got news for them, they sent me the darn device with that IMEI. I spent probably a total of 4 hours on the phone and two different times they said it would take a few days to add. Only the second time did it actually happen. So yesterday i received second exchange device and the first thing out of the box the wireless charger doesn't work. Call back today and they say i have to pay for another "advanced exchange".
Made me mad enough i just went and bought a N6P and am saying so long to Motorola.

I work in IT, between my co-works and myself we have 4 nexus 6 devices and 2 charging pads. All Nexus 6 devices charge perfectly on all pads except my new one that charges on neither
I got really poor support from motorola so i thought i would share.

It is just my curiosity. But when the N6 does not charge at all, I wonder if M send you a new device. Within the warranty period M is obliged to fix the problem.

I dont really understand your question...... but yes the device is under warranty. They should honor that by sending me a new one. I am mostly mad they sent me a broken one and want me to pay for them to send another.

When the device is under warranty, you do not have to accept. Maybe the costs of transportation could be yours (warranty conditions). I think you should try again. We all pay for warranty, so don't give up.
I'm not exactly following you. They sent me another device that was broken when I took it out of the box. Now they want 25 more dollars to exchange that one.

I don't know about the specific warranty conditions. But it seems reasonable to me that Motorola must deliver you a 100% working device.
The costs of transportation to send the device back to M. is a different point. When the warrenty conditions does not mention who is responsiblefor the transportation costs, than IMO you have to pay.
Excellent choice mate. Hope Huawei doesn't turn you off as well. Although if I was in your shoes I wouldn't let them off that easily.

I'm seeing poor support from them as well. I tried calling in to get my broken screen fixed and couldn't understand a thing the lady was saying to me and she couldn't understand me either. I ended up doing the online repair request, said it was a free repair with a 4 day turn around. A week and half later they email me that it's going to cost $175. Still waiting for my phone to be returned to me.
Co worker waited over a month and a half to have his moto x pure replaced under warranty and he did the advanced exchange and they wouldn't release the hold off his card.
Seems like lennovo had ran Motorola into ground, or is at least in the process of it.
So my co-worker decided to fix my phone, and what he found makes me embarrassed for Motorola.
Wouldn't charge via wired or wireless. Keep in mind this was supposed to be a perfectly working model sent back from Motorola.
First the reason why it wouldn't charge via the wire. Part of the plastic was under the contacts had snapped off. So the pin was hanging lose. He was able to fix it enough to charge by putting glue in there and getting the pin in a location it made contact.
Second the wireless charging issue. He opened the phone and found that they had ripped the "ribbon" with a screw that went to the wireless charging coil or whatever. He was able to fix that just by patching the ribbon. with some electrical tape or something.
Either way Motorola you get an F for customer experience.
I will never buy another one of your phones after dealing with you guys.
Bought a 6P almost a year ago and its the best phone i have ever owned. I decided to do some follow up posts when i was looking through my history.
You have to remember that Motorola no longer exists. The brand logo has been slapped on a few phones, but what you're seeing now is typical Lenovo. When Motorola was owned by Google, things were very different, and the Nexus 6 is proof of that as it is the only device where both the hardware and software were made by Google-owned entities.
Well, I beg to differ. My experience with their support was good.
I bought a N6 from swappa, a vertical half of the screen would randomly freeze, while the other half would still work; search revealed this to be a hardware issue.
The seller denied the phone had a problem and said I 'must have done something to it'...
Anyway, there were 3 days left of warranty for the phone (July 2016).
I opened a case, got a shipping label, and I received a replacement, however, the replacement was a 32GB version vs the 64GB I sent, so I called support and they immediately contacted their manager, who in turn contacted the logistics group; they emailed a return label, and as soon as the wrong phone arrived in their facilities, they shipped the correct one.
All this took about a 5 or 6 business days.
I could ***** around about the mis-shipment, but as far as support goes, they're way batter than 90% of other companies out there...
Hey Guys,
I really need your help on this. Last week my G4 out of no where just shuts off and never came back on. I tried removing and putting it back but it just vibrates for about 20-30 secs and stops. I called T-Mobile and they sent me a replacement. The replacement keeps rebooting randomly and the screen flickers. I called T-Mobile and they said it could be the battery, so they're going to send me a new one. So do you guys think it's the phone or the battery? I'm thinking I should pay $140 to jump. What do you guys think?
Seems like people are having trouble with certain G4 suddenly died... something about a faulty motherboard

Mine phone did something similar and they had to replace the phone. A week or so ago it just shut off when I was using it, wouldn't come back on. After pulling the battery I could get it power on but it would shut off shortly after. It finally stopped coming on altogether. I called T-Mobile and they sent out a replacement.
Yesterday my phone reboot randomly a couple of times then the last time it did not come back. It would not power on at all. I tried the button combo to get it into download mode and nothing. I did notice that it would appear as a USB TTY device when connected to my computer. I tried using picocom to troubleshoot it but all it kept doing was spitting back junk. I took it to a T-Mobile store and they confirmed that it was dead. T-Mobile is sending me a replacement. I have no idea what caused it.
The manufacture date was June 2015. Maybe it would be helpful if we tracked that as these phones experience these sort of issues?
I received my new battery and the problem still exist. They're sending me another replacement phone. Is there a lemon law? This is just ridiculous...
Just got my 2nd replacement. Same ****ty problem. Just got off the phone with T-Mobile and they're going to be upgrading me to an S6. Good luck to everyone else that has this problem.

I'm assuming you're saying "out the box"
Yes.
I also told the rep that I didn't feel comfortable going through the holidays with an unreliable phone and they helped me by waiving my required jump balance and allowed me to JUMP. I decided to go with the S6 since there aren't any other worthy Android phones on T-Mobiles line up. I mean the Note is just too big and the edge is too much.
Samething happened to me last week.
