At&t 5.1 ota? - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I realize Nexus 6 models and builds for the most part are cross compatible. I am just wondering when and if the AT&T variant will get an over the air update with volte support. curious how T Mobile got this update and no word from AT&T as far as volte support for the Nexus 6. anybody heard anything about this matter?

They either allow them or they don't. I flash the factory images. Next to no waiting.

I really dont care about otas, as soon as there's a new factory image up on google site I flash it with fastboot
AT&T calls volte "HD voice" I think? roll out is still limited to a few areas according to their site

I don't wait on AT&T anymore. Sideloading is simple to do.

There's not an AT&T specific OTA. LMY47D works fine, here > http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/general/ref-nexus-6-stock-ota-urls-t2906493

regardless what carrier you are on, all updates come from google. and google promises up to 3 weeks to get all the updates out. they do not all go out at once.

It hasnt been released as far as i know.
i dont think they have even started the process for a soak test afaik
That is what I figured, good ole slow verizon. Can you pull the APK from another carrier for the camera? Would that work?

From what i hear, apk won't work. Will have to wait for the VZW OTA.
I called to complain about some issues with my X and asked about the update and they have the update version as the current version for the phone, but if you buy one, you still have to wait for the update. They say that Motorola is the one holding the update due to a staged rollout depending on when you bought the phone. Not sure i believe that.
Yea... i dont have a link handy but one of the android sites has a quote from Motorola basically saying it's Verizon's fault now, not theirs.

And Verizon blames moto and refuses to acknowledge that the update exists

Lol yes. Not surprised but still pissed. I guess VZW has to make sure all the bloat is in tact and exploits are "gone" before they release. Siiiigh.

How do these OTA updates not "leak"? Surely someone, somewhere has it.

I've read nothing nor heard anything relating to a Verizon Moto X update. Not even as much as speculation that Verizon may be prepping the update.
wah.... I am wanting that update badly for the camera.....

Can one of you with a 16 GB model post your system version? TIA
On average how far behind is Verizon usually compared to other carriers? Like not exaggerating, literally multiple months or just a few weeks to a month?

Usually months 2-4. Look how far after a new device is released on all carriers and then verizon gets it 4 months later.

That's ridiculous. They better watch out once the other carriers get their LTE coverage out to full capacity. Verizon might be on to 5G or LTE-A but there will be a lot of content people getting newer phones and faster updates on the other carriers even if original LTE is "old".
Verizon isn't always that far behind with updates but with the Moto X update I will admit this is getting a bit ridiculous.
remember that verizon also is prob going to patch the camera for X/Ultra/Maxx/Mini at the same time... i work for an indirect verizon retailer and have a good relationship with 2 motorola reps. the patch is coming as far as they have told me.. just waiting for verizon to finalize on all four devices. TMo/ATT/Sprint have one device.. Verizon has 4 LOL. Patience grasshoppers.. patience.
If thats the case then I love that they are holding up 1 phone that could have 2 core issues resolved just so they can update 4 devices at once......

Where or Where Is My Lollipop 5.1

I bought my Nexus 6 directly from Google Play Store. I currently have an AT&T Sim card in it. I have not been prompted for the 5.1 OTA update. Does anyone have any ideas why? I check it daily to see that it is phoning home and asking for updates and still nothing. I am a bit frustrated considering I bought it from Google directly so I could get the updates sooner than the carriers and of course without the carriers bloatware. I don't want to download a OTA version from the sites only to find out it was meant for a carrier's version of the phone.
Thank you for your help.

Google rolls out updates to Nexus devices, not the carriers. Likewise, they also roll out the updates in stages, starting with a small amount of users and working their way up. You can probably expect to see the OTA in the next week or so.

OTA' s can take weeks before everyone is served. Just flash a image in fastboot and you're done. All posted images can be flashed regardless the carrier.

Thank you for the response. I believe they started rolling out to Google purchased Nexus 6 devices around 2 weeks ago. I normally get an update 3-5 days at the most after it first starts to roll out on my Nexus devices. Just anxious I guess and afraid for some reason it is not trigger on mine or at least maybe someone knows how to get it to trigger early.
I guess I am a bit miffed about Tmobile users getting the update before I have

Sounds like the AT&T roll-out began in the last day or two.
You'll get it. Patience. If not then there are many options of getting it on your phone ASAP. If you want to go that route

Verizon and Factory Images

Hello All,
I'm considering getting a Nexus 6 on Verizon, as my company is moving away from ATT. My understanding is that the Nexus 6 in the Google Play Store and direct from Verizon are physically identical phones, since the GP version has worked with Verizon since launch (just Verizon wouldn't activate it). I know that Verizon has made several modifications to the Nexus 6 that they are shipping, like they usually do with Nexus phone (Thinking back to the Galaxy Nexus fiasco), but they were very minor. Specifically, they added in their changes to the build.prop for tethering to be blocked without a subscription.
Do any of you know, if I get one, if I can just flash the stock factory images from Google and get OTA updates from Google with all of the tethering functionality and such unlocked by default? Is the build.prop modification the only difference?

Build.prop isn't different. The devices are identical. The advantages/differences of the VZW N6 versus every other at two fold:
1) VZW device IMEI is "whitelisted" on Verizon. No others are. This means that if you buy from anywhere else, you are going to have to fool Verizon (several ways to do this). They won't give you a SIM. And this, in turn, means that you will not get your BYOD discount on EDGE.
2) VZW version ships with LMY47E (which includes 98R radio). There is no OTA for this. But the factory image can be downloaded from Google and fastboot flashed.

I'm not asking whether I can use a Google Play phone on Verizon. I'm asking if I can take a Verizon Nexus 6 and flash it to the Google Play image and have it function the same as a GP phone on Verizon.

There is no "Google Play" edition phone. You can buy a Nexus 6 from the Google Play store, but it's not a special edition. It's the same phone you can buy from Motorola, Amazon, Best Buy, etc. Verizon whitelists their IMEI as I've noted above. There are four factory images for 5.1, LMY47D, LMY47E, LMY47M, and LMY47I. You can flash any on these on any Nexus 6.
And, you're welcome.

its the same software. when you put in the verizon sim and boot the first time, is when it installs verizons apps. if you boot the first time without the sim catd, it wont install verizons apps.
If you plan on using VZW's Advanced Calling 1.0 you have to run version LMY47E.

This is according to Verizon...
From the Verizon Website said:
Advanced Calling 1.0 is a first generation suite of services enabled by VoLTE (Voice over LTE) technology.
VoLTE is a new technology platform that delivers voice calls over the 4G LTE network instead of the traditional voice network.
The benefits of Advanced Calling 1.0 include:
- HD Voice
- 1-way or 2-way video calls* (including support for video calls over Wi-Fi)
- 6-way conference calls
- Simultaneous voice and 4G LTE data**

Google has not provided any official definitions, but it's generally accepted here (Not hard and fast rules, though) that:
LMY47D is for AT&T and Sprint
LMY47E is for Verizon
LMY47M is for T-Mobile
LMY47I is for international (but a lot of US users use it, myself included).

Can I get Nougat update if I'm not activated with a carrier (former Verizon phone)?

Without root, does this update have to come through the carrier? Once I lose my current Note 7, I'm going back to the 5, but want to wait until I'm assured of the update, and would actually like to see it first, before jumping ship. Does anyone know, or have any suggestions?
Yes comes through the carrier. I have a note 5 and had a note 7 both att variants and neither would update without att sim. Same goes for Verizon variant. I'm sure there will be a Odin package to flash eventually or all you have to do is put in someone elses Verizon sim and go to check for updates and it will come through. That's what I did. With that being said nougat won't be coming for probably 5-6 months on this device

Updating Rooted Pixel 5 on Verizon

I have an unlocked Google Store Pixel 5 that I am using on Verizon.
I currently have the phone rooted with Magisk running October RD1A.200810.022.A4 .
When updating to the latest, should I pick the December All Carriers release or the November Verizon release?
I am thinking that I should flash December RQ1A.201205.011 rather than the Verizon version, but advice is appreciated.
(Apologies if this is already answered, I searched and read several pages of posts without a clear answer.)

Personally I'd flash the November Verizon update and wait until next week to flash the December one. I'm not sure what Verizon is doing but since it's only a week away why not wait.
I'm using an unlocked on xfinity Mobile (Verizon mvno) I used the all carriers one. I'd only use the Verizon one for the Verizon model. Not sure but I'd definitely not want to end up with my bootloader permanently locked which as far as I know is the only difference with the Verizon variation of the phone
Yeah, that's why I asked the question. I am wondering if there might be some mmWave related differences as well. On my OG Pixel XL, I had the Verizon version that was bootloader unlocked using one of the hacks. I switched around between both factory variants and never noticed any difference.
To be "safe" I did upgrade my Pixel 5 to the All Carriers December version yesterday. I'm getting Verizon Sub-6 5G, VoLTE, WiFi Calling and all that jazz. I don't have access to mmWave so no way to test that.
So far I am not having any problems that I could blame on the build.

Have you been able to confirm that WiFi Calling actually works through Verizon? This is the one option I couldn't ever get working on my past unlocked phones. Seems that Verizon always said that it MUST be the Verizon branded for that option to work.
