Wp10 preview worth it - Windows Phone 8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it worth it to install it or isnt it that stable and funtional,
Hoe is it compared to 8.1
How are phone calls ect?
Sent from my L36h using XDA Free mobile app

Woww,
No disrespect but im following the win 8 forum in here and im sorry to say its
Realllly quit in here hahaha

Q&A is really not the place for discussion. That's why no one has replied. Anyways, I'm waiting for the official preview build for my 928.

Too many issues
Its not at all stable.
People are reporting app crashes, lags, battery drainage issues and even that some apps are not working properly.
Some wi-fi networks don't work too.
Don't do it if the phone you use is a primary one and you dont have another option

O.K very funny...very...
On this kind of questions, google search engine is working.
If there is nothing or a lot of people on google are searching for this kind of information, and if you give in this forum some useful informations, than owners of xdadevelopers and we all, have something...
Do, JJEgan and jetpackjeff think the same?
I suggest that everybody give something positive...
I'm a little stupid, but i worked for years on unix os and my first pda was i-mate...that was a lot of years ago.. ouuu I'm so old....
I read everything and just want to have a discuss,
is really so good ?
Is there any comparison what can be better or more fast etc...??
Btw; I'm still laughing, and sorry both

Do you have seen something in live?
On the webpage in forum i found a link where i found maximum information regards my question...
CyanogenMod is a custom ROM that is available for a number of Android devices. It's goal is to bring the vanilla Google experience to these devices, but it also brings it's own tweaks that better the experience.
The current build is running Gingerbread 2.3.3 (Build GRI40),

Is this question rhetorical or are you asking a real question and expect a real answer?
Some of get confused with all the numpties on here asking questions where they refuse to search read the faqs etc .
I inadvertently put the OP in that category due to the topic .

Can't really mention about it yet because ours(2.3.3 it is) is still a beta version, well same goes to the other too....well, it's definitely faster because Gingerbread use ext4 file, unlike RFS file like our SGS...and also some other things....oh yea, the camera supposed to have more features like brightness control, etc...the tv-like shut down feature when you relock your SGS....performance, currently, due to some bugs, it's kind of sluggish...as it is a ROM, you can customize more things than the official version, thus, it benefits the devs to tweak it some more...as you can see also, CM gives the old Android Phone the newest version of Android feel, so they won't feel being abandoned....
I don't really have much to add but due to forum posting rules I can't post on the Dev thread until I have clocked ten posts although it would seem you are able to post threads I'm other forums that are unbelievably pointless... currently running today's experimental build of cm7, seems good so far, SD mounted, camera seems less glitchy, all the radios working. Haven't tested GPS yet...

Wrong, CM7 for SGS uses the YAFFS2 filesystem.

main problems on androids.

I've been testing androids lately, and I've spotted some things that really aren't good for further developing.
that things are:
1.charger connecting.it would be great if the phone could charge when android is booted.
2.battery draining.
you boot the android, and you can't charge him,bla bla...anyway,its the second main problem.
3.keyboard.its not such a big problem, just good to mention.
ok,im sure that developers will work it out.its ok,cuz xperia x1 android is still work in progress.we should all say a big THANK YOU to developers!
cheers,joe
patience my friend
vrijeme će ti odgovoriti xD
Call me a pessimist but I don't think there will ever be a stable, fully working build (charging, keyboard, wifi, bluetooth, camera, bug free). Sure we can use Android on the X1 but it never is going to be a permanent WM6 replacement due to problems.
Sent from my XPERIA X1 using XDA App
Well,I'm not shure either...I believe in it...because I think that neopeek will find the way...we should let him to do it in peace...I believe in him.
Sent from my CM6.1 Modded by NeeDo using Tapatalk
It's mostly up to the kernel developers to fix the charging issues. sp3dev stated somewhere that in his 2.6.35 branch, he has fixed up the battery drivers to be less "hackish". If YGGE/duckly could somehow backport it back to the 2.6.29 kernel, then charging should work better.
In all fairness and respect to the kernel devs and those who work on Android for X1 but they all work on different things. Instead of combining their knowledge and efforts to release a fully stable/functional, they work on different releases (newest android versions). But who what difference does it make if your android has 2.2 or 2.3.
What i'm trying to say is: the devs need to pick one version that is best suitable for the X1 and try to get it 100 percent working.
That is my point of view anyway.
Sent from my XPERIA X1 using XDA App
Well said my friend.. I agree on this aswell..
Seeing that same android build reacts differently on all X1 models, what the devs need to do is take only one android build and work on it till the major issue are sorted out.
With android the problem is that a new version comes out every couple of months and it is annoying trying to keep up with soo many changes.. People should really slow down on the new versions and perfect the one which is already out..
Yeah, thats really true...if developers join their powers,we would have daily use rom in no time...but no,they just develop new versions,2.2 and 2.3...and they could easly improove cyanogenmod version to work 100%.if they would do that, then nand boot would completely evolve, cuz everyone would focus just on that, they wouldnt have to think about rom developing.AND WE WOULD HAVE ANDROID PERAMENTLY INSTALLED ON OUR XPERIA X1!
And isnt that true?
Sent from my X8 using Tapatalk
Just a thought.. even if all the devs do work on one rom, seeing that they live away from each other I'm not too sure if it would be that efficient..
I really should get myself in to rom development in the long run

4.2 Worst ever update?

I haven't updated and have no plans to do judging by the sheer amount of complaints on here about 4.2, i don't recall ever reading so many people complaining about an update as bad as this before and it begs the question, what were Google thinking releasing an update that was so bad with so many bugs, etc and mores to the point can anything be done to fix it?

Hummm Yet again.. I think 4.2 does have some bugs.. I also think its thrown the developers into a Nightmare because of the multi user configuration. Same with apps now having to make storage location choices.. With that said its NOT Terrible.
Obviously you never used the first Version of Honeycomb.. Then the Update Update update .. that still ended you with a slow sluggish interface that Well i Will not go on . Other then to say Google was to embarrassed about it they would NOT RELEASE THE SOURCE . That was bad..
Be thankful Google always pushes the Bleeding edge of there designs.. It brings us new features and keeps our Devices fresh. The update bugs is the price for this . Thank Google.. While Telling them they have Trouble. NO reason to tell us WE Already know...
Not sure what these threads are bringing to any forum. Off TOPIC IS THE Best place for such post.. YES MY Reply here to is Uncalled for.....

Only real issue I've noticed is lag when using multiple users. New keyboard is great, everything else seems fine to me. Happy user here after deleting the extra user account I tested.

I haven't bothered with the multi user aspect and it has been fine here. I think its a given that it ain't quite ready considering it was not implemented in the review units.
One thing I noticed is that you can now say "flu shot Monday at noon" and it will finally create a calendar event. I wonder how many more commands have been added.
omg was that monday as in tomorrow or last monday.. I Can not believe i missed the flu shots again.. grrrrrrrrr .. now im doomed
4.2 seems to be working fine on my nexus 7 so far. Even ice cream sandwich had a whole bunch of more serious issues on a number of devices yet overall most people think it was a great update.
I wouldn't say 4.2 is an awesome update as I've only found a couple of changes useful to me. But I just haven't experienced anything majorly wrong with it either. Give it a month or two and I'm sure the niggles will have been fixed as I have a suspicion they could be mostly ap related.
no its a good update, jeez everyone should quit complaining about now.
Worst update ever was the one my flyer got from Gingerbread 2.3.4 to Honeycomb 3.2....
I like it and am happy Google is stepping up. PA is a fantastic ROM and they did some amazing mods. Unfortunately I have a touch of the OCD and would spend hours trying to set it up just right. I was satisfied from the get go after 4.2 was installed and didn't feel the need to adjust any tablet or phablet settings. With the exception of the usual mods CM or AOKP style. Can't wait to see what's in store for this update Dev style!
I too am happy with 4.2- can't compare it to much but it's clearly no disaster.
I myself have not had any issues with 4.2, thus I'm rather pleased

I need stability..

So I know we are not to say " this is the best rom.." and things like that.. So I hope this question is acceptable..
I came from the galaxy s4.. But did not look into roms before the switch. I was quite disappointed to discover the issues that cause so few roms to be developed currently.
The thing is, I use my phone at my work phone.. So I need a ROM stable enough to do so. I have been on Knoxraid for about 2 months.. With no major problems... But there are a few issues, and since it is no longer being developed I really want to move to a different ROM.
If I may ask, what are you guys using as a daily driver, and what are you finding extremely stable?

IMO, If you're needing your device for work? Stock; ESPECIALLY if you are using your device for work in a "mission critical" environment (No disrespect meant to the developers of custom Rom's at all).
For me what it's come down to now is being able to have root, and being able to do basic customization (Which is all supported by Wanam module for Xposed). I'm not a developer myself, so I can't even speculate what needs to be done to create a custom Rom, but this has been my experience
Depends on where you work. Where I work, I'm restricted from even connecting to their network since my device is rooted. Therefor I use Cisco IP 7945 XP
Moderator Comment: Rom that may have the features you seek is the one you've assayed against your own needs and chosen accordingly; thread closed.
And best advice has already been given...best stability is ALWAYS stock or stock based

Cyanogenmod 12.1 for the HTC One M8s (m8ql_ul)

ROM Updated: July 20, 2016 - Update notes
This post Updated: April 24rd, 2016
If you have been here before, or if you know what to do, go right ahead and skip to the last pages for the most recent update notes. Or, if you need a bit of a starting point or got stuck along the way, it might be useful to read the remainder of this post first. Understandably the installation of this ROM didn't immediately go smooth for everyone, so if you run into troubles don't skip to the end but rather spend some time to read through the entire thread. And you can always use the search function. Doing this will probably be quicker than waiting for someone to solve your problem, especially if it's not a new problem. Plowing through the thread is probably the faster alternative.
So that all being said - Hiya! Welcome to the one and only place where you can find info and support for my unofficial port of Cyanogenmod 12.1, for the HTC One M8s. This phone is very different from the M8 and no one really knows why the folks at HTC decided to give it this name; the looks may be similar to both phones, but the M8s comes with an octa-core snapdragon 615, a 13MP camera, and a stronger battery than the M8. Under the hood you can find an msm8939, and unfortunately not as much memory as one would hope. Still, the phone works pretty good, and at least this ROM (in my opinion) is faster and snappier than HTC's original Sense ROM.
Although this ROM is not supported by the Cyanogenmod project in any official capacity, I did get some great help from some of the CM developers and from other people. Special props to @root-expert, @Rashed97, @invisiblek, @intervigil and @uberlaggydarwin for helping, and providing me with some moral support when despair was getting the best of me.
So that all said and done, let's get to it!
Port Information
All the stuff you would hope would work, works: the mobile radio, camera, wifi, GPS, NFC, audio, notification LED, sensors, Bluetooth, and the power consumption is pretty low, which is good.
There are a few things missing; the #1 requested feature is "wake phone on double tap", but I have no idea how to add support for it. I'll need someone to let me know how, and while I'm not actively searching for this myself, if someone knows, drop me a line.
Apart from this, the Dotview case thing isn't supported. And the same applies here: if someone knows how to add support, drop me a line.
My plan for many months was to get this ROM ready to be included officially by Cyanogenmod. This is not on my todo list anymore, but if someone else still wants to do the legwork, you're free to go ahead. Please keep me posted in that case.
Finally, I haven't gotten around to getting SELinux done, and I doubt I ever will. There is just not enough demand, no one requested this feature, and it's a pain in the ass to get to work.
From january of 2016 I took some time off and from april 2016 I will bring out updates at a slower pace. It's not that I stopped having an interest for this ROM, but the developers of CM are focusing less and less on version 12.1, they're putting most of their efforts in CM13 these days. Apart from this I don't think that the demand for anything missing or new is that important to merit the amount of research it demands from me. Adding to this, is that HTC provides no dev support, and the information lying around on the Internet for this phone is not exactly stellar either. So: starting from April 2016, and when time allows, I will continue to provide small updates, once a month at the very least.
So... what about CM13?
I don't have a clear answer for this. As of april 2016 we have still not heard anything officially from HTC other than "HTC will support the update to Android Marshmallow for the HTC One M8s." They have said this for a long time, and until they have released the relevant components like the kernel and their own ROM, I don't think it's possible to get CM13 to work - too much proprietary stuff is required. So until HTC delivers, I can't answer this.
CM12.1
If you are looking for the repository and/or a log of changes take a look at Github. There you can find the M8s-dev organisation and the device tree I use to build the updates.
The juicy stuff
Please make a donation if you value all the work and dedication I've put into this port. It took more than 6 full time months for me to produce, so believe me when I say it was no easy thing to create. I'm sharing it for free and hosting it myself. So a donation really does make all the difference.
And here you go:
Download CM12.1.

But it seems that this is not the case right now. So I'll play with this at an easy pace, But if anyone wants to chime in later, feel free to ping me. Or take over, if you already have experience building CM11/CM12.

Ok.. "no plan" might just mean "maybe someday", and maybe it will help if we do a bit of work first.
We could also use a separate forum on xda for the m8s, because it is a different phone, and a quick search for "htc m8s" on Twitter tells me that the phone is being used by more and more people. It will probably become a popular phone, and why not, the octacore processor is pretty nice, so is the 13MP camera...
So we can just continue, although I will admit, due to the hot weather where I live I haven't done anything so far yet.
Experts who have ported CM before, make yourselves known if you would like to help... :good:

Agreed. I had not built CM12.1 before, only CM11. I don't think it's easy to support CM11 for the M8S, I tried to do it, but got stuck when trying to compile it... after I merged config files etc I found out that it's not easy to support this hardware (arm64-v8a).
It'll be optimal if someone more advanced will take over from me at some point, and for this week I'm a bit low on free time, but I have finally synchronised my repository and built CM12.1 succesfully for my supported HTC One S (ville). So now I can see about porting the M8S, for that I will take a look at the sources for the M8 and M9 and it will probably take a lot of trial and error. So please bear with me...
