Nexus 6 on Verizon Help??! - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone i wanted to see if anyone could find a fix for this problem. Well to start this off when i got the nexus 6 its the T-MOBILE (unlocked of course) was working FANTASTIC when i inserted my sim into it. LTE, MMS, CALL, AND TEXT worked better than any android phone i ever used. But i had the VERY DUMB IDEA to call *228 on a LTE phone for laughs (worse mistake ever). Now i can only get 3g instead of lte which is WAYYYYYYY lower in my area. And now my nexus 6 has a 3G PRL instead of Verizon's LTE PRL it needs and i CAN NOT revert back. Help would be MUCH APPRECIATED!
I have ordered a new verizon sim to activate with a random lte devices of course to stick in it for be a fresh card to get the correct info for LTE .
I just need another solution to hold me until then

I did this earlier today...well a Verizon rep did...luckily didn't have any issues. Have you tried factory resetting?

get a new sim or put sim in vzw branded device is the only way to fix it

You will need a new sim

I figured so and yes the correct apn is in the the phone and everything like when lte worked but the prl is stopping it from connecting. Thanks everyone i will have to wait on the new sim

I did this too. Ill have to order a new sim I guess. if you get to the testing menu I was able to force LTE only.
Im glad im not the only one.
so definatly don't dial *228

Shouldn't have to order a new sim. Just go to the store and they will give you one. Shouldn't have to pay for it unless its an "authorized dealer" and not an actual Verizon store iirc.

It was free, I ordered it over live chat. I am too scared to lock the bootloader and go in the store

You can try *22899 it was used on the gnex back in the day. I have never had issues with using *228 anyways on any phone.

Have you tried it? I have personally in my 2 gnexes and worked just fine, didn't "burn" my sim card either. Instead of not understanding a concept of looking it up, maybe you should just Google *22899 only and see for yourself.

I completely understand it. I worked for big red corporate for many years in sales. So, *22899 is literally *228 then option 1 so activation for CDMA phones. *22899 just avoids having to go thru the option. Nothing else.
Update:
Maybe you should google things a bit BTW. LTE phones auto activate. No *228. *228 is ONLY FOR CDMA and that is why this guy broke his phone. Before you recommend something to someone and then call me stupid, maybe you should do your own research. And the "I did it and I'm OK" line doesn't mean jack sh*t. Don't hurt other people because of your own ignorance.

OK. Well that is nice to know. Its hard to know what someone is saying. Often times people on XDA are jerks so it puts me on edge.
Anyway. It's programming the phone as if it is 3g only. It won't even work or go thru. But, if somehow it does like it did when LTE first came to big red, it will burn your sim and possibly worse. This is pretty common knowledge so I'm surprised you've seen anything but it. But again, there is never a time on an LTE phone to call this number. It should never even go thru but if it does, nothing good will happen. This is what happened to the poor guy on this thread. Perfect example.
Hope this info helps.

[Q] Developer Edition - LTE Issues

So, I recently got the Moto X Dev Edition and went to the at&t store to get myself a nano sim card as the phone did not come with one. Previously I was on the HTC One Developer edition.
Anyways...last weekend, I started getting text messages from at&t saying, I have an LTE device and should call at&t to get myself an LTE Data Plan. I was like...wth..., so I called and they said that I was on the 3gb - $30/month 4g plan and they had the same plan, for the same price but it was called an LTE plan, just terminology I guess, so they activated that but I am still getting 4g speeds meaning about 5mb download. I am in Cleveland, Ohio area and had never experienced anything like this.
Is there any setting on the phone that I am not aware of causing this? I can't find any setting or option to fix this issue.
I'd appreciate any help...
Thanks
Anyone???

Hell I can't even get T-Mobile Web to recognize my device, guess you well have to deal with your carrier on that
Also have the dev edition but never tried to check my speeds, will try and let you know.

I had the same issue in the at&t store when I first took the phone in to get my nano Sim card. The manager was like, system doesn't recognize your device, there is nothing we can do. I was like, are you freaking kidding me? Then they sorted it out but it was a big hassle. What happened to the good old days, you buy an email unlocked device, pop your Sim card in and good to go...

Same problem with me except by the time someone in customer support finally figured out what was going on they had already wasted three hours and a week of my phone not working properly. I'm still not sure my account is properly fixed and won't really know for a few more days when I can see the bill.
Bottom line people, do not give them a new IMEI number. They need to keep the old number otherwise their system will kick you off LTE and it will be a ***** to sort things out.

So, are you back on LTE with your Developer Edition? If so, how did they figure it out? I had to give my IMEI number to them because they were issuing me a new NANO Sim card, so they needed all that info.

Yes, back on LTE after a insane amount of time on the phone talking to people that act like they have a clue but in the end just messed things up even more. To answer your questions, because the dev edition isn't a "AT&T" phone, their system doesn't know what to do with your phone.
You can either give them a IMEI of a LTE compatible phone that is in their system (aka a AT&T branded phone) or they will try to switch you to some non-LTE plan (without your knowledge). If you have your older IMEI number then give that to them instead.
Here is what they did with me. Feel my pain. This was a couple of weeks ago. I went into a AT&T store and got a nano-sim card. They handed me one without problems. Mistake one. I should have just waited and had the store do the entire process but I had done the similar thing
with T-mobile the day before (regular sim to micro sim) and it was painless so I figured AT&T surely would go smoothly.
I got the Dev Edition on Monday. I called AT&T and gave rep my new IMEI and ICCD sim card serial. Everything was switched over and appeared to work. On Wed I got a e-mail and text saying the same thing in the OP. Okay that's odd cause I am on a LTE unlimited grandfathered.
I called and got a great rep (so I thought). She said that my plan was set to non-LTE unlimited and was changed on the 8th. I explained everything and she supposedly switched it back. Okay… I got off the phone and was heading home for lunch. I rebooted the phone so it could
re-register on the network. NO DATA! I called back when I got home (on lunch break) and was on the phone for the next hour and a half with the third rep. The lady I was speaking with earlier apparently deleted my data plan and did not save the changes when she said I was back
to my old LTE plan. At this point I am pissed. My grandfathered unlimited data was gone. He also couldn't add the grandfathered plan back in because it was a legacy plan. He would have to add me to a current plan and open a trouble ticket to get me back on what I was supposed to have.
He tried to add me back in but the IMEI that they had in the system for me wasn't allowing him to add me to a LTE plan. I dug around (thank goodness for Exchange) and found my old SGS3 IMEI and gave that to him. That worked, BUT, it required a voice plan change also. Okay.. two trouble tickets to open.
He put me on 550 rollover and 3gb data. I think the price increased from my regular $63 a month to $90 a month after those changes. Oh.. my 3700 rollover minutes vanished also. Okay, so I was back on data but was temporarily on plans that increased my bill by $30 a month. Not happy and at this point have zero faith in AT&T to fix their mistakes. He gave me $50 credit for my time. Probably within two hours I got a e-mail saying that the data plan was adjusted so I was back on unlimited web. It took me another week to get back to my regular 450 rollover plan and another
few days to get my existing rollover minutes back to what they were. It took four more calls to get this all sorted out. Well, so I thought. I should have over 3500 rollover minutes on my account. I have 28 days left in my cycle and right now it's showing 900 minutes left. SO… looks like I will be making yet another call to AT&T customer support to see what the hell happened to my rollover minutes. As you can see this has been more of a pain then it was worth. I should have just cut the sim card myself and never, never, gotten AT&T involved in the first place. This is incompetence at a very high level. It's almost as bad as my experience trying to get a $30 T-mobile plan working again.
---------- Post added at 09:07 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:45 AM ----------
and after spending more time on the phone with AT&T, they deleted my previous rollover minutes (again) and had to add them back. I'm sure this will be a regular dance at the start of every cycle now. so unhappy.
Well, took your advice and called AT&T, gave them the IMEI number of my first Moto X and now it's all back to normal, I got my LTE back.

Verizon SIM Issues

I've had my N6 for a week and a half now; when I ordered it, I requested a Nano SIM from Verizon. It took longer than I expected for the new SIM to arrive, so I decided to just cut down my existing Micro SIM. Did that, installed into the N6, up and running no problem.
The Nano SIM finally showed up, and I swapped it in thinking there'd be no issue. Unfortunately when I start it up, I get a notification to "Sign into network", and when I open that, I receive a screen that says "Cannot Activate Your Device". I talked to VZW on their chat and then on the phone; the tech on the phone was asking for the IMEI which I provided, he said their system did not recognize the number and he'd have to submit a request to have it added to the database, which would take 24-48 hours, and that I could swap in my old SIM in the meantime. No problem, until I switched my old SIM back in and it doesn't work anymore either....
Any suggestions?
Sounds like you were better off keeping them in the dark. I read an article somewhere can't remember where saying that Verizon wouldn't activate any n6 that weren't purchased directly from Verizon. I wouldn't be surprised if that were true.

It does seem that way. Mine came from GPS. Told them that when I requested the new SIM and they didn't give me any problems...it was "sure, confirm your address and we'll send it".
The tech I was dealing with genuinely seemed to want to figure out a way to get it to work.
My thought is to try to get my SIM back in a phone that is unquestionably on Verizon's system, but I'll have to find a nano to micro adapter to do that with my wife's phone, for instance.
I was able to find a nano-micro adapter, and reactivate my old SIM in an old Galaxy S3 we had laying around, and swap it into my N6.
LTE data is working, but voice isn't for some reason (when I place a call, it'll ring once and then "Welcome to Verizon Wireless, your call can not be completed as dialed. Please check the number..."
ETA: Voice issues were some kind of glitch with Advanced Calling/VoLTE. I disabled it from my line, reactivated it and went through that whole process again and now it's working.
This post summarizes the VZW issues with the non-VZW N6: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=59970721&postcount=121
Read the whole thread if you want details, but it seems clear to me the VZW is breaking FCC regs by only allowing N6's purchased from them on their network.
It does seem you have other issues going on here though. My N6 worked great, it just cost me my $25 "bring your own device" discount when I plugged in my existing SIM.
Please let us know if you succeed in getting your N6 recognized on VZW's network. My request to add mine to their network was denied in about 5 minutes.
Same issue on b2b plan
I'm having the same issue on a B2B plan. I am currently trying to find someone w/ a Verizon android. Seems like there are grounds for a complaint through FCC regulations though, no?

Yeah it would need a lot more than just support for LTE band 13 to work on Verizon. The CDMA bands/radios are still 100% necessary - at least for now. In addition to all of the other LTE bands Verizon supports.

Yea, I guess I am missing something here. I found that you can't enable Band 13 without rooting and disabling other bands. Shouldn't an unlocked nexus 5 just need access to Band 13 and be registered on Verizon's network in order to use LTE Band 13?
I appreciate all of the answers. I'm a bit new to this whole process, and never understood US network space before today. so thanks

How to use on Verizon?

Hello,
I just received my Mi Mix yesterday, and I'm trying to get a nano sim card from Verizon to switch from my Galaxy Note 4. The person at the store told me the MEID on the Xiaomi doesn't work on their network and to find an MEID from another android phone that isn't in use. I was told they won't give me a nano sim unless they can input this MEID number into their system to program the sim card. I'm not great with phones and ROMs but I really liked this phone so I purchased it. I know I will need to change APN settings when I get the sim card, but I haven't got that far yet. If need be, I can switch networks, but I am curious as to how those people with the phone on the Verizon network were able to get it to work. Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

Google the APN settings for mix, I'm have been using it just fine in CA.
have you galaxy note 4 activated. take the sim card out of it and place in the mix and use the same APN settings. done.
that being said every area is different and you may have better coverage with tmobile or at&t. verizon should be in most cases the worst lte coverage of the 3, it was for me with this phone by far.

I just wanted to update you. The people at the Verizon store gave me a sim card and I called in to activate it. I found APN settings online and now I get 4G coverage. I live in NJ, but very close to NYC so the typical band around here is 4 for me, which works great. Thanks for the help!
Any way to get HD Voice and VoLTE working on Verizon?
Wait so you guys are able to actually use this phone on Verizon? Because that's pretty much the only reason I haven't switched over from ATT yet.

Yes, friend is using it. Doesn't seem to support carrier aggregation, Verizon calls it lte advanced.

Work fine for me in SF Bay area and Houston TX, zero signal when I cross the border to Louisiana though...I'm sure that's just the rural area.
Does carrier aggregation work on Verizon?
I popped a friends sim card into my Mi Mix last week and it worked just fine. It showed VoLTE also. Not sure about carrier aggregation. It did behave a little weird though... it showed two different radio bars. One was LTE and then it showed a 1X bar. Both were very small. I verified data worked and I was able to make calls though. Switching to verizon this week when my G6 shows up. Gonna try my Mi Mix on verizon for a few days and see how it works all around the area and if it works fine I'll probably just keep it and sell the G6.
No voice calls.

You need to go into the settings on the phone and turn of VOLTE, I tried using the mi Mix on Verizon and it didn't work until I turned VOLTE off.

Any chance of being Verizon compatible?

I know generally that most unlocked Chineese phones are not Verizon compatible. But, both the OnePlus 6t and 7 pro are even though they are LTE only so I figured there may be a possibility and was curious if anyone actually attempted it.
This seems like the best phone on the market right now, it's almost $200 cheaper than the next snapdragon 855 phone in the US.

Works great on AT&T Prepaid Unlimited, typically for CDMA carriers you need to buy they're approved phones.
I'm actually on Verizon unlimited and had the same questions for them.
I installed my sim card from my previous phone LG v20. And it seems it's using the provisioning from it. All the network info was there. But couldn't seem to get data. So I used shortcut master lite and went to the telephoney part of network settings and had to play with the network settings. Got it to work really well by downloading a network settings app and playing with the band info. It's pretty straight forward and easy to use.
By the way Verizon has no idea what kind of phone I have and it says it's rooted. But it's not. Cloud works great, my Verizon, message+ and anything I throw at it from the Verizon apps. Tech support said that as long as im using my existing sim and have done whatever I did to make it work. Keep doing it. But they have no idea if they are going to setup services and get the info anytime soon.
So I got just what I always wanted.
A nice phone that they can't track or get into it unless I allow them. Perfect
This phone works fine on Verizon, I currently have both the phone and Verizon service. VOLTE works and everything, just no wifi calling
Wow! You all are using the North American Nubia Red Magic 3?
I'm usually on T-Mobile most of the year but during the summer I need Verizon where I go so I didn't consider the RM3. I usually use total wireless or StraightTalk and I've had good luck with slapping their SIM cards into different phones without an issue.
So if you all can tell me the tricks, if any, and which model (US or international) I'll pick one up — sub $500 for S855 and big AMOLED screen!

And what about band 13 on Verizon? Isn't that the main band for them?

No band 13, but Verizon also uses bands 4 and 5 which this phone supports. I actually believe band 4 is their main band. I didn't have to do anything but put my SIM card in. Although in the past when I had a OnePlus 6T, I had Verizon provision my line to be LTE only. Don't know if that step is needed for this phone, as it supports CDMA. I'm using the North American version bought directly from Red Magic.

Thanks for the info. Band 13 (700MHz) is Verizon's main band due to its penetration and distance, according to online info, but you are also correct — 2, 4, along with 5 and 66 all work on Verizon. If they put 71 and 13 in this thing it would have everything. So I should be able to get something in most areas.
Good to know I just need to put the SIM in. I can always activate on my old Moto X Pure.
Thanks again!

Please oh knowledgeable one, bestow upon me the settings you used to get the phone to work on Verizon. I popped my SIM in to the phone when i first got it and ZERO issues for weeks. Then recently all the sudden I no longer had any service whatsoever. No matter how much I tried to play with the settings, nothing seems to work. What appp did you use for the network settings to play with the band info? Really don't want to change carriers right now.
Please and thanks in advance :silly:

Well it was easy, phone off , installed the sim card and poof service for about 2 hours and then I had to keep toggling the airplane mode. Until I remembered when my LG V20 stopped getting signal because I had it rooted. Verizon kept trying to kick it off because they don't want rooted phones on there. And also there software constantly tries to update the phone to remove root on you.
Anyways, I m sure you know this part of Verizon. There are many variations of it. But network settings App. All pretty much show the same menu. But LTE only is what you select. And you will constantly have to go back into it and enable the data. The menu looks like this hopefully I can post it but choose LTE only.

So it basically doesn't work because you have to jump through hoops to make it kinda work?
I remember when I sold my Pixel XL, the guy was able to use it right away on Verizon with his sim card.
Did Verizon add more measures to keep people away with unauthorized phones?

Well all I really know is that they say that they just don't have any info about the phone. It has all the bands that work. Except band 13. I haven't rooted it because there still isn't a functional root for it. That setting in the pic I downloaded, theres a switch that says immediate. That's changes to disabled because of the doze function. It's solely for data. I keep mine on lte only. And just have to change it from disabled to immediate. It's kinda a pain in the rear. But. Its a functioning phone on Verizon service that they say doesn't support it. No Verizon apps except cloud and My Verizon. With limited access. It's great as far as I'm concerned. Biggest problem with Verizon. Is Verizon.
But as soon as a functioning root is available and im comfortable I'll root it and enable band 13. I'm pretty sure it's there. Just Verizon won't pay to get the access to the phones. So there's that.
One more thing the OnePlus 7 pro works on Verizon with some GSM function. There support just won't try to do it on the RM3. Other option is you have a second Sim slot. Get you another sim card and that takes care of emergency stuff.
Guess I'll be buying the best gaming phone ever made, the Red Magic 5G next! Sorry Verizon, it's time to move on. Or you can support this baby and make a lot of money.

Will it work with Verizon? BOGO

I am totally in if this thing will run on Verizon anyone have any idea if there will be a buy one get one offer like with the Note 10?
The ROG phone 1 seems to have the bands for Verizon 4G and 3G (even though 3G will be dying at the end of the year).
https://www.findpare.com/smartphone/asus-rog-phone-8gb-512gb/mobile-carriers
They haven't annouced which bands the ROG II will support yet, unless I missed it.
Verizon uses bands 1, 2, 4, 13 and 66. It supports Bands 1, 2, 4, 13, but doesn't support 66, which is pretty much just a re-label of 4 with AWS-3, and its in very few areas. 13 is the important band, because its Verizon's mainline 4G LTE band, so apparently the ROG Phone II supports it, which is good.
Sweetness, so does that mean it will work natively with all the regular functions like text voice and data?
Moving from note 10 in a hurry...

Hopefully. People had trouble with the ROG Phone 1 when it came to Verizon compatibility, so tread lightly. I’d wait until a few people get their hands on this in the US before pulling the trigger on it.
Any updates... Note 10 plus otherwise I guess sigh...
so even though it says "WILL NOT WORK ON VERIZON", its possible it could work??? i cant believe there isnt more info on this.. i called asus yesterday and the guy put me on hold for about 30min and came back and said "yes sir it WILL work on verizon, but being that it says gsm only i called again to ask someone else and the next guy said it will not work. when this phone was announced i was told this one would work on verizon... wtaf

They don't know! You are wasting your time even calling Asus and Verizon. The thing you need to understand is when you call into these call centers you are one step away from talking to a robot. Everything they tell you is from an internal website or a automated wizard they have up on the screen, and if the employee doesn't know the answer they are going to give you a best case scenario answer so you don't ***** at them and leave a bad survey. Trust me, that's how it works. Save your time and patience!
The general consensus seems to be that it has the right bands but Verizon has not approved it for their network and thus it won't work. Also no CDMA radio to fall back on should you be out of LTE range.

Put my Verizon sim in yesterday to test, got 4G+ data, called Verzion gave them the IMEI and they submitted a form for me s/b done today or tomorrow to get it up and running on their network. The support rep says it registers on their network so no problem at all. On Tmobile now only getting 4G. On my Verizon S10+ I only get 2 bars in my house go figure.

I WANT ALL OF YOU THAT HAVE THE PHONE AND HAVE VERIZON TO PUT THE SIM IN SLOT 2 OF THE TRAY AND POWER IT UP. You should see signal. Call Verizon tech support and give them your IMEI and have them check if it registered on the network. If they say yes have them put in a form to add it to the network.

Yes, I have. You will only have data....no calls. Even if vz adds phone to data base, volte is disabled in the US.

Not correct, I already have data w/o them adding me to the Network. Once its added and completed it will work fine even without VOLTE.

Does AT&T have Advanced calling features on none branded phones? Had a Galaxy Note 9 unlocked from Samsung and didn't work.

Lol, no it won't. Without volte the phone drops to 3g...so on tmo and att, calls work, because it's gsm bands. With vz, calls would try to drop to 3g, which is CDMA on vz, so no calls. Trust me, it's not gonna work, unless we figure out volte working.

If you say so, because using a Tmobile sim right now and have that issue. Spoke to my friend an engineer at Verizon and gave him all the specs. He said as long as it registers on their network and has most of the bands it should work. You're right about the No Volte which really stinks.
I'm going to keep the phone, do you know if volte and advanced calling features work with AT&T???
