[Q] Shaky camera? - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just bought a used Nexus 6 and when I have the camera app open the image jerks back and forth with a physical click/clack. It pretty much does it back and forth once time, every two seconds. I can only assume it is the OIS malfunctioning. Does that sound right? Has anybody else experienced this?

OIS is fubar'ed... Return it/RMA it
this happened with my first one, and now my second one is perfect.

Okay thanks, thats about what I figured.

Did they RMA it for you with no issues. I'm having this issue now on a refurbished unit I got from Motorola.

[Q] Slight rattle around camera area on Optimus x2

Hi!
Just got my phone back from repair and today when i put it down on the table I noticed a slight ratteling noise. I decided to try to figure out where the sound came from and it is coming from the area where the camera is. I figured it out by gently tapping around that area. What could cause this rattle? Is it something in the camera? Is it the autofocus lens?
Br D
Anyone who can confirm what it is? Just want to be sure that the repair shop havent broken my phone.

No ratteling here.....

It's usually the auto-focus mech that rattles in the camera, HTC's tend to do it. My O2X doesn't however, I checked when I got it, and this thread made me check again.
Damn....was hoping it was normal. It is really annoying sometimes. Since I didnt noticed it on my last Optimus x2 I suspected that it was something wrong.
Sigh.....Looks like its going to be another week without the phone then. The repair shop also scratched it. Getting tired of this....
Notice it here as well. Mainly if you tap around the camera or drop it in your hand (probably any surface, but not willing to try).
Can it be the vibration mechanism. That also sounds loudest around that area, it has anyway a loud vibration noise I have to say..
Sent from my Optimus 2X using XDA App
Hmm then Im not the only one that has this ratteling. I have read several threads about the Nexus One handset having this problem. With the Nexus One it was the auto focus mechanism that made the noise. But if it is the auto focus mechanism on the Optimus x2 aswell then all should have this ratteling noise. Not only a few.
So, how should I proceed with this? Should I send it back in for replacement or should I just discard this as something that is normal on camera phones?

Since so many have it I think its normal. But I have sent an email to LG support asking them. Have not received an answer yet though.
I have it too.
Then i think its settled, its normal with this rattle and it comes from the autofocus mechanism in the camera. All camera phones seems to have some degree of this ratteling noise.
yeah this is normal after taking a picture with af. i had 6 and all of them made that noise, dont worry.

Is something wrong with my camera?

Whenever I take a picture, the end result will always be a little blurry and have yellow tinting towards the left side of the picture. To some extent, the life side even has an entire bar going across it. What can I do with my problem?

Seems like a hardware issue to me, I'd return it.
Good luck

I would be highly surprised if it would not. Especially if your phone is still newish. Just say no user error could ever cause this.

Thanks I'll give it a shot. Anyways, does warranty usually replace the entire phone or do they usually just repair the damaged areas?

Depends, my carrier swaps out defective units for a new one right away if it's 2 months old or less. Otherwise it gets send away for repair.
I'd steer the conversation towards a new one in any case...
Buddy had same issue took it back got a knew one never asked a question had it for only like a week tho
Alright so when your provider decides to replace the phone for warranty, will you have to wait a few days for the new phone or will they give you a new one on that same time?

nope if you did a little research this has proved nuuumerous times to be hardware related. only real fix is send in to htc for repair. some say it works some are displeased with damaged bezel and case from repair facility. only thing ive seen that seems to help at all if at all is change iso from auto to 200. ive had mine since launch and as reported many times as well seems to get worse with time.

Kk, I heard somewhere that it's the Zoe software that causes this because of a feature that it uses.

Bad Camera? Anyone else? Link to video.

Camera jumps around during video or picture taking. Tried the CM Camera, Google Camera and Camera Plus, all the same results. Link to a video I took.

thats not normal, id get an rma as soon as it would be possible. its a new device, so no point in trying to fix it, just get it replaced.

Already called, I would get a "like new" device when and if they get in stock. I was told I would have to keep checking inventory online and immediately call and I would get a like new device.

ahh, makes sense. google will usually give people new phones at this point if they refurb, as many refurbished phones arent available yet.
My first device was just like that. Called T-Mobile and got a replacement. New device's camera is perfect!

Speaker hissing and crackling noise.

So, let me start by saying that I HAVE read around and there is a lot of talk about this issue here on xda, a lot of people have sent their Nexus 6 phones in to be replaced and it's a common issue! However, was anyone ever able to come up with the conclusion of it either being software or hardware based? I noticed mine does this more when the battery gets lower leading me to believe it's software related, however, I have hear speculation that the hardware is faulty. Anyone know the true answer to this question? Thanks!

im going to assume its hardware based. since my n6 doesnt have any hissing or crackling, and if software mine would have it as well, since we have the same software.

Damn, I guess a lot of people had this issue, most people who own this device have said this is happening to them, few have said theirs is fine. It's a minor annoyance, but for the hefty price tag and what I paid for mine, it's very disappointing. Does the 6p or 5x have this issue? Or not sure? They're made by different companies so I assume they don't.

I dont have this issue unless I try to use things like Viper which I removed as it really didnt do enough to justify the extra static.
As for the 6p and 5x they have other issues.
No hissing or crackling from the speakers on my N6. And I don't think we can say most people that own this device have said they've experienced this issue.

Do you or anyone in this thread know if Google would replace a device that I've had for 7 months? What's the terms on this?
This is a refurbished replacement or new replacement N6 you've had for 7 months?

Then it's still under warranty and you should be able to get it replaced. I had a couple issues with my N6 and I got a brand new phone 10 days after I received RMA confirmation.

So just flashing a stock image and locking the bootloader should be good then? I have a lot of mods on mine.

Thanks! I just hope my next one doesn't have this issue if I go through with this. A lot of people said they went through 3 or 4 of these phones until they got one without this issue, also, they send a brand new one right? I don't want a refurbished one.

They should send you a new N6 if they have the same color and storage, but I've heard about some receiving refurbished phone with issues and then getting a new N6 after talking to customer servicece rep.

I called their support and asked about it, he says he "you don't wanna troubleshoot it first?" And I said "not really, I've tried EVERYTHING even reflashing stock firmware!" And then he tells me that it WOULD be a refurbished model, not a new one. Umm no, I paid full price for mine when it came out!

Might want to try Motorola for RMA. They have an option to get the replacement N6 before mailing them the defective phone.

It seems to me that the crackling has to do with voltage...
Like the crackling occurs as the battery starts to quit because it thinks there's more voltage available than really is... And as I start to put 2 + 2 together... It seems to be exasperated by using the "high performance" toggle in the kernel
