Hello everyone, I don't know if my problem is unique or not but I am having serious issues with music on my Moto G XT1068. After the screen is closed the music abruptly stops and then starts after a while or doesn't start at all. Its worth noting that during this brief time all other sound effects like key tones and vibration also stop. Any solutions ?

1. check if the music app has a take wakelock feature and enable it.
2. install better battery stats and look if yo find an alarm/wakelock called audiomix, this alarm is neccesarry for audio playback
3. reflash rom?
Seems like the audio drivers are corrupted. At that point I would just clean flash the ROM. But first try to do a dirty flash of your current ROM so the same drivers get installed once again, with no data wiping. If that does not work, I would just clean flash.
Its stock version

I would like to know are these issues are normal.
1. When listening on the Music app thru headset and I receive a notfications the music volume seems to sound low but when I check the volume is full blast. To solve this I need to turn beats off remove headset and restart music app. Do you guys experience this also?
2. Most of the times my phones screen seems to flicker. Not the actual screen, the backlight. It seems to blink or flickering and I can't tell if its a hardware or software problem. Anyway my ROM is the official GB rom sense 3.6. I never received an ICS upgrade cause my phone's CID is korean.
Thank you for taking your time answering my questions/issues.
Yesterday I was listening to a podcast through my M7's speakers and the audio cut off suddenly - as if I had tapped "Pause". Since then I have been unable to get any audio out of the phone speakers. Bluetooth audio seems fine. At first I thought that headset-jack audio was gone, but now it is just very low volume (maybe it was low all along, or maybe it was gone at first and is now working but quiet after a few Nandroid restores).
Here are the things I have tried:
Calling the phone to get ringtone
- (vibrates but no ring)
Restarting
- (no change)
Restoring Nandroid backups from 2 weeks and 2 months ago, with same ROM
- (no change)
Restoring Nandroid from over a year ago, before I had installed any custom ROM:
-Touchscreen doesn't work so can't use the phone (?!?)
-Speakers still seem broken - receiving call causes vibrate but no ringtone
-Had to ADB into the phone to reboot to recovery
Current ROM: CRDroid/CM11
I can't even guess at what would have caused this - I was doing nothing unusual or stressful with the phone. It was sitting on a table playing the podcast & the sound just stopped - pretty sure there was no "Pop" or other sound. As far as I know both speakers were working fine before yesterday, but since I mostly listen to spoken word I guess it's possible that I haven't noticed one of them being out.
Oh yeah, I found and tried dialing the phone diagnostic code (something like *#*#3424*#*#) but it did not work - I'm guessing it just isn't supported in the CrDroid ROM.
Any advice would be much appreciated. Is there anything I can do to test or determine whether this is a software or hardware problem? It seems bizarre that both speakers would just stop working, but what do I know?
thanks in advance for any assistance...

Thanks for the reply - I forgot to mention that I had seen that suggestion and have already confirmed that my Chrome is already updated to version 40.0.2214.109, so I don't think that's it, but if there's any way it could still be the problem, let me know - I guess I could uninstall/reinstall chrome but I don't have any reason to think that would help.
I'm now getting *some* audio under peculiar circumstances, so clearly both speakers are not completely dead or disconnected, and possibly it's software rather than hardware - I'll test a little more before posting the details...

As hinted in that last post, I'm now seeing/hearing some very bizarre behavior - I can now get audio out of certain apps under certain conditions, I think only out of the top speaker. Here are the convoluted conditions:
(This is the only reliable thing that happens) If I play a voicemail message in the "Youmail" app, it works (although only out of the top speaker).
*AFTER* I play a message in Youmail, I can get a video on Facebook or VLC or a song in Google Music to produce audio, BUT if I pause the Facebook video and restart it the audio is gone again, and none of the other apps will produce audio again UNTIL I go back to Youmail and play another few seconds of a message. Pausing/restarting VLC does not kill the audio. Rebooting the phone also leaves me in a non-audio state, UNTIL I open Youmail and play a few seconds. "Smart Audiobook Player" cannot produce audio under any circumstance, and I cannot get the phone to ring. I haven't played with other apps yet.
What the??
I've been thinking about flashing a new ROM anyway, but I'm skeptical that that will do any good since my attempted Nandroid restores haven't helped.
Any ideas?
(of course let me know if you need more info to try to diagnose or if there's some other hoop I could jump through to try to see what's happening)
[edit a few minutes later] I can get music to play in Mediamonkey, but as with the Facebook video, if I pause and restart the audio is gone again and other apps (except Youmail) do not produce audio.
I went ahead and flashed a new ROM ("MaximusHD | 52.0.0 | Android 5.0.2 | Sense 6.0") but that did not fix the problem.
I can now run the HTC Fuction Test Program, and that results in some top-speaker audio tones on the first audio test, but no ringing or other audio. I haven't restored the Youmail app to see if I can get the same weird behavior I had before.
So it is still clearly true that I can get very limited audio out of the top speaker but generally audio is dead.
Any suggestions of what to try next?

Arrgghhh - I'm afraid you're right but I really want you not to be. Any other ideas/solutions?
To be more clear, now when I run the "HTC Function Test" and select "Audio Test", the first test it runs ("Receiver Test") seems to work - it plays several distinct tones followed by an ascending sliding tone (out of the top speaker only). Then it runs "Test Both Speakers", which fails completely (no audio whatsoever).
ok, so i recommended the mini 2 to my dear friend, and she has been super happy with it, but two days after she bought it, all the sounds magically dissapeared, no notification sound, no incoming call alert, no music player sound. but the speakers aren't broken, she does have in-call sounds... so i've been googling, and on some blog or something i heard that if you toggle the fast boot option off in the settings>power menu, and reboot the device, the sound will be back.. aaaand it worked! wich is great, and it's not that she needs the fastboot option on, but this bugs me more than her! it is an official rom, it's a new phone, what's with the no sound thing? why can't one have fast boot AND sound at the same time... most people would return the device instantly... and since i have managed to find the solution on the web, it is a common problem!?
this looks to me like a temporary fix, is there any way to make sound work with fastboot on?

Fastboot is meant to be something that isn't given much importance. Which is why it has always been in the shadows after a small stint in the press in the Froyo days(it was made quite a huge deal by HTC at that time). And since it is not native to Android, being an HTC-only feature, it is bound to cause problems. Although it doesn't mention now, previous versions of Sense warned that there will be some problems regarding apps and stuff.
I had it on for sometime but I had not come across such a problem, this could be because of conflicts with certain apps.
Hi,
I have question/problem regarding sound playback which is kinda annoying for notifications. My Moto G2 came pre-installed with 5.0.2 and what I'm about to describe is also true for CM12.1. I did not have the chance to test on KitKat so I want to get your feedback on this and if this is a know issue on Lollipop or something.
Basically the first time a sound plays (mostly noticeable on notifications because they are short) the first few milliseconds it feels like they are being played at higher rate resulting in a high pitch unpleasant sound. However if I scroll through my sound settings and try out different notification sounds, as long as there is no more of a ~5sec pause in between subsequent sounds this hiccup does not occur. I guess it only happens when audio focus is first attained. At first I thought it was a hardware problem with the speaker but it also happens when playing notifications through the headset (for testing purpose).
I also took the time to check the logcat but I did not see any difference between 1st playback and subsequent playbacks. Any input on this would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT: Friend of mine bough the device aswell, he is stock and unrooted. Same problem ...
EDIT2: Adding 90ms of silence (copy endtrack to start) to a given sound with i.e audacity gives *whatever the issue is causing* enough time to not cause distortion. 90ms of puase are hardly noticeable ...
It does not happen on stock 5.0.2 on our phone but ya it does happen on cm12.1

Could you try calling your mailbox or listening to the "text-to-speech" example and then browser to notifications and try playing one?
I have jcsullins cm11 ROM running on my touchpad and I have an issue. I have tasker playing white noise from 12:05am to 8:30am while I sleep from a gig sound file and some nights the sound stops outputting sound on the touchpad and it will not output any sounds until I reboot. Anyone ever lose sound on this ROM or other ROM? Is there another way to get sound back other than rebooting?
I have run some additional tests by using apollo music player with a song on repeat and after about 8 hours the touchpad stops outputting audio.....the only way to get it back is to reboot......can anyone else test and confirm this is an issue?

I've had audio issues with my touchpad, and it has been regardless of the android system i've installed. The audio will work for a while then go silent. it always requires a reboot to restore it. Sometimes the sound will last only a few moments, and other times it will last 10 minutes or so. I've been unable to solve the problem.
The only way i can get it to be reliable with sound is to boot to webos.
Damn I wish someone could solve this issue
HP_10_Tablet

Same hear, oops, i mean here. It has actually caused me to stop playing with Android on my touchpad out of inability to find a pattern.
