How many people disappointed with the new iPhone? Are people actually going to buy a repackaged iPhone 4? Yes, because there are always sheep.
Apple is really great at repackaging their products, iPhone 3g > iphone 3gs.
I would stick with an iPhone 4 if.I already have it. Only thing great about this whole ordeal is that the previous versions are way cheap but a bit outdated.

Can i just use this thread to get a bit of fanboism out.
They changed the camera and all hell will break lose on release day. And the price.. good god. For me in the UK i won't get use of 4G until 2013, not that i was ever going to buy this piece of junk. Makes me love my Desire HD even more.

Ok back to normal.
What happened with all the rumors of larger screen, teardrop design, supposedly thinner? Maybe in the works for next year.
If people actually line up for this and wait for hours it has to be the end of our civilization as we now it.

That was an Epic FAIL for apple. And when I say Epic, I mean Epic Touch already has all those features hardware wise! Nothing new frrom Apple but a repackaged iPhone 4 with the same hardware already found in other phones. In fact, they are already behind with the Nexus Prime rumored to have the new Exynos 1.5Ghz Dual Core in it, so by the time the iPhone 5 comes out, they will already be behind again.
Copying BBM, Android Notifications, Google's cloud, 1080P video recording, and hardware found in other phones already, I was totally disappointed.
Instead of being the innovators, it looks like Apple is now playing catch up.

I have an iPhone 4 and knew over a month ago that the new iPhone would be very much the same as the current one but with upgraded specs and internal hardware.
Nevertheless, I'm a bit glad because I won't feel compelled to exchange my iPhone 4 for the 4S. I will, however, enjoy using iOS5 on my iPhone 4 on Oct 12.
the major difference is just a faster CPU
and now it can do both CDMA + GSM in one phone
everything else is not even worth mentioning as they are really seasoning on top of the meat
their marketing team is pretty good at what they do, i'm assuming the 5 will be along these new specs but with LTE chips, NFC and maybe a little something else?...
christmas time?
Here is what the 4S provides:
http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/04/iphone-4s-vs-iphone-4-the-tale-of-the-tape/
Siri is really cool, and the upgraded CPU and GPU is nice too, but it looks like i'm going to stick with Android and buy the Galaxy Humongous aka the Galaxy Note.

Wow! I didn't realize how bad off MS stock is. MS stock
Google looks to be the highest earner. Google stock
Goes some way to explain why Apple feel so threatened by the other phpne manufacturers, Apple didn't have anything in this year's pipeline to compete.
Wow, I was waiting to see what Apples response to the Galaxy S2 would be and they release an iphone 4 with a different processor. I wonder how dumbfounded Samsung and Google and HTC are. The Christmas season is just around the corner and Apple is still trying to milk a phone a year and a half old. I swear, if they get record sales I'm going to lose all faith in humanity.
Looking to upgrade my HTC G2, since I'm kinda bored of it and dealing with custom ROMs and whatnot - I want something simple/fluid out of the box with official updates in the future for a little bit. Basically limited my phone search to two in particular - the Nokia N8 and the Galaxy Nexus.
The N8 draws me primarily for the camera (great quality + xenon flash), but also the plethora of other features compared to my G2 (AMOLED screen, HDMI out, front-facing camera, Bluetooth 3.0, USB OTG, lighter/smaller, pentaband, battery life). That, and the price - ~$350 for one in good condition and then $30/month for my current T-Mobile plan (best plan for my needs and cheapest price I've seen).
As for the Galaxy Nexus, it's most of the above plus a bigger screen/resolution (both a positive and a negative for me) and NFC (though I probably won't use it for a while as I have neither Mastercard nor Citibank). But...$650+ is a lot when that's about how much I paid for my M11x R1 laptop, especially since it's be more prone to accidents/loss/theft.
Don't really care for app selection (like 90% of my use will be calls/texts/email/web) - the $300+ difference between the two would probably be used for a 7" Android tablet, mostly for watching videos on something more portable than my laptop, which I know I wouldn't buy if I bought the Nexus (had two Android devcies at the same time once and found it too redundant).
Basically not interested in any non-pentaband phone at this point, and no other Nokia phone really grabs me like the N8 (the N9 is nice, but IMO a step back compared to the N8 in features/ports). PLEASE don't just go and say something like "Nokia is old/out" or "Galaxy Nexus, I have it and it's great" - I'd like actual answers, particularly people who have used Symbian Anna (not necessarily the N8 though).
Only other phone I'd sorta consider is the Optimus from Republic Wireless for the cheaper plan price, but I'm waiting for the service to improve (and allow on-the-fly Wifi/CDMA switching) before I truly consider it.

They're just screwing with you. Honestly I'm going to give you the same answer though but I'll explain why:
Your reasoning for liking the n8 for the features it has are all in the gn. But the gn has a a better resolution, a super amoled screen (trust me, there is a HUGE difference), a better processor and a better os in the sense of more applications and overall customization. If you're willing to go for the gn* then go for it.

Well, the N8's camera is quite a bit better, if only for xenon flash, and from what I've read the recent Anne update has improved the speed/quality of it...not ever really having to carry a point-and-shoot is a big plus for me.
And yeah, better processor and OS - but for a phone, I could honestly live without it. There's maybe one app I even use out of the house that's dependent on a wireless connection, and if it comes to it I can just bring the 7" tablet with (exactly why I want a 7" one - still portable enough to stick in my pocket). As I said, 90% of my phone use is basically just that, with email and web browsing on the side when I have the time for it.
Honestly, the biggest thing is the price - I can't exactly afford to replace it quickly if it were to break or get lost/stolen, and considering how much Android phones - Nexus or not - depreciate...then there's the screen size. Too small to comfortably watch a movie on, and too big to warrant a 7" tablet for me (and I'm just not interested in anything beyond 7") - especially when it'd be an extra $200+ for basically the same thing I have, an android device, in a bigger size.
I'm not trying to make it seem like I'm set on the N8 or something, I just don't want to get a Galaxy Nexus simply because it's "better" when I don't even really need all that "better-ness"

It's not about not taking advice, but I'm looking for advice that consists of more than picking one phone basically because it's the popular phone to recommend. I get this is a tech/phone forum, but that shouldn't mean that everybody only focuses on what's new or "the best" and disregard valid reasons to consider other stuff.
As I mentioned - take into account the fact that I'm going to be getting a 7" Android tablet (likely some Honeycomb/Tegra 2 device) along with said Nokia device, which I absolutely would not get with the Nexus (due to the combined cost, smaller screen size difference, and redundancy of two Android devices - meaning one or the other will be highly underutilized as an Android device).
When you don't need a better phone, why buy a new phone? What's wrong with your G2?

The GN's camera is pretty weak, honestly. The SGS2's camera stomps all over it... and it's not even in the same league as the N8's camera.

N8 is a good device, very durable and has an awesome camera, but will you ever use the camera? Just asking. My friend has it, and he likes it a lot. But he said to me the other day "I want Android." It's worth mentioning that he is a long time Nokia fan and not a geek kinda user like me. But why suddenly said he wants Android? Well because Symbian sucks. Period. Yes, Anne update is not bad, but it just ripped off Android. It looks like a complete Android rip-off.
If the camera is very important to you, you can go for SGSII. Lower price, better camera, smaller screen therefor easier to handle, and one of the best devices ever built.
All in all the choice is yours. But don't make a decision that will make you regret it.

Yeah, I'd definitely use the camera - I don't really use my current camera just because of the mediocre quality, but I know that would change with a better quality one.
I guess the GSII is an option, although the T-Mobile version doesn't have Exynos and that's the best version I can afford in terms of monthly plan price...plus, if T-Mobile goes under and the 1700/2100 band isn't taken by anybody (like AT&T) then the phone will be kinda useless, only being able to get 2G/EDGE. And if I was going to consider a phone like that, I'd probably just get the G2x then, which still has basically all features I'd want and a decent amount cheaper than the GSII.
And I had a Streak 7 (both with Gingerbread and Honeycomb)...and found myself using my G2 most of the time, forcing myself to use the Streak 7 instead when possible. Maybe I didn't give it a chance, or I might just not use enough decent Android apps, I dunno.
Anyway, Polaroid recently announced an interesting camera/Android phone combo that includes optical zoom...but phone specs don't seem too spectacular, and it seems to be only available to AT&T. Not sure if it even has HDMI-out, which would be kinda pointless to have such a nice camera and no video-out capabilities...

It seems like you made your decision long before you made this thread. Get the N8. Voila. Done. Enjoy.
ThereĀ“s no way I could separate my life from Android, so you know my answer.
Wow, I feel dumb now. I just remembered I'll be getting a Fuji W3 soon, which I'm pretty sure will take decent 2D pictures in addition to 3D. Might as well not bother with the N8 then, might actually consider the Galaxy Nexus then.
In my humble opinion, once you use android as the OS, you'll start to like your phone more than phone/sms, thats why its called smartphone

Maybe they'll change up the way they release a new product through the Google Play store. The whole bit with people being able to get them through retail channels faster than the preorders was a disaster. I hope they stay with Asus, if they can learn from their mistakes. I'm sure it's a pretty steep learning curve for the manufacturing and QC guys for any new product line.
Yes. I think most of ASUS problems are with it's initial batch of tablets. After about a month things seem to smooth out. So I'll probably do my best to hold out a month next time. But that's so hard for me because I'm impatient too.

I agree with the time frame being ridiculous, but I don't know about most devices being perfect considering how many people are going through multiple replacements with defects. It'd be different if the first replacements everyone got were perfect, but I see a lot of people settling on units with relatively minor defects because they fear that their 4th replacement will be worse than their 3rd. I love my Nexus 7, but even I'm settling on the minor defects that it has (minor screen separation and multitouch issue) because I'm afraid that a replacement would be much worse.
No matter which OEM Google uses in the future, there will always be unhappy people. My device is rock solid and defect free.

You know, I really can't say. We know of EVERY little problem the N7 has because we come to this forum. But I think Google has had and expects stuff like this, with any company.
I've had 2 Asus Android tablets, and both have problems. The N7 has very slight screen lift ( no big deal to me) and that's it. My Transformer Prime had shot GPS, crappy WiFi, and buggy software....BUT, I love what they do. The Transformer line is one of a kind beast, and the N7 is even better. First 10" Tegra 3 tablet with keyboard dock style, First 7" Tegra 3 tablet with JB...for $199 to top it off So I think I am willing to take chances to stay on the newest/ hottest gear...and Asus has that gear. So I'd say Google should give Asus another shot if they can fill their needs.
To be fair, screen Flickr is because of the tegra 3 (it is an issue with teg3 HTC ONE X's; screen color problems = defects from the screen manufacturers (LG, SHARP, SONY,not Asus)... Same issues in OneX/XL/S's with varying hue and color temp.
Screen edge coming up or slightly moving.... Because it's not glued in, making it easier to service... Pop off the backing and tighten the damn screws.
Some people have the slightest issues and return items blowing the issue excessively out of proportion... Some of these people are also the most vocal on forums.
Ultimately the returns/exchanges are less than 1% of total units sold and happens to every device. Let's remember when the Xoom first came out... Anyone? Lol

And even for those with defects, they aren't exploding, they aren't catching on fire. They just didn't use enough glue on one single side. Not a big deal.
As a rather funny note, all the ASUS preorder hate seems irrelevant in Germany where the device isn't even available yet at all.
Sometimes, Google is way too USA.

my vote is for yes. if google releases a nexus10, i bet asus will build it
When the Galaxy Nexus was released when it connected to 2G networks the volume would automatically decrease, do you think Google have scratched Samsung off their list too?
Why not? Asus are a wonderful manufacturer.
My Nexus 7 is perfect and my Samsung Galaxy Nexus is, too. I was worried about my products after reading these forums and I was constantly having to check for defects just to make myself feel better and then I realised how silly that is. Headaches over nothing, because a small minority are incredibly vocal!
I am always behind Asus after using their motherboards/monitors and enjoying my previous TF101 tablet.

4 months to production is unheard of in this market. They gave us something cheap, fast, and good, so I am hoping Asus becomes the 'go to' manufacture for nexus tablet's.

OK so real quick...I've spent some time with lg devices in the past. One being the lg thrill which I was particularly not fond of maybe cuz it was my wife's phone and maybe cuz I was using a Samsung infuse at the time on att. Also my mom had some lg pre-smartphone thing a few years ago that was so ugly and cheap feeling.
I really want to think this device will be amazing but am i the only one who is a little bit nervous for Google on this device? Maybe I missing something or maybe I'm just plain weird but can someone tell me? Can lg pull this thing off ? I mean all of Google Android reputations are counting on this device to knock it out of the park!!! Is it gonna happen?!?!? Even for $350???

Apparently the build quality is very good, but the glass back could be a worry, Josh Topolsky got a review unit, and apparently the glass on the back broke pretty easily, so that's definitely a concern.

It's definitely higher quality, but it's not going to look too good if the glass gets cracked easily
I'm honestly more concerned about the price of replacement glass back. With the price of most phones outright I usually rely on selling what I currently have to fund my addiction for changing phones so often. I also don't like selling phones that are damaged and will usually go out of my way to at least recommend a cheap place for replacement parts if the buyer doesn't like any scuffs or scratches. I hope the price of the backs is about the same as the iPhone 4 backs which are only around $25 to $30 max.
LG
I too was a bit skeptical about this phone due to the fact it is made by LG, but after reading the first looks and early reviews of this phone; The nexus 4 looks very promising. I am hoping it will be an upgrade from the technology and build quality of the galaxy s3!
Buy skinomi skin or stick on tempered glass. Or a case. Otherwise, don't drop it.
It really sounds like LG stepped their game up in terms of design and build quality with the Optimus G/Nexus 4 so I wouldn't hold their past too strongly against them. Sounds like they're trying to turn a new leaf in terms of industrial quality.
I was skeptical at first but this is why I'm willing to give them a chance here. I didn't think much of Samsung as a phone manufacturer until the Galaxy S. I'd like to see this as well as the Optimus G be a win for LG and turn them into a relevant competitor in the Android field. It shouldn't only be HTC/Samsung (well, really just Samsung) eating.
Biggest thing LG can do from here is fix their rep in terms of software updates. Again, Samsung used to be the worst at this and got destroyed for it by users. They have largely been able to redeem themselves and it's paid off for them. Hope LG takes it as a lesson.

I disagree. Nexus is kind of like the face of Android. It is THE Google phone. If the Nexus 4 does bad, it will make Android look bad, as this one (along with the 7 and 10) and trying to get the Nexus name out there.
Now, as for LG, i agree with what everyone else says. LG has GREAT hardware, but lacks on the software support. I'm on my 5th LG phone because I've always been satisfied with the (two dumb phones, three smartphones). However, my current phone has been a slight disappointment, but, as also mentioned, Nvidia is partial to blame.
In any case, my plan was to buy a $350 Galaxy Nexus, but now that I can't, I'm going to buy a $350 Nexus 4 and be an LG owner for the sixth time in a row.

OnePlus One Phone Explained. HOW is it so cheap?

I've been thinking of getting an OnePlus One as a secondary device (well, tertiary, as my note 3 is my primary and my s5 secondary)
for that price without a doubt

The OnePlus One looks great, but I don't think I'll switch out my S5.
I have a friend that will probably pick it up so I can check it out then.
No, even if the Oneplus One seems to be fast, I prefer my S5 with its new touchwizz. And no Sd card extension on the One.
The Oneplus One really looks amazing and quite a threat to the flagships at that price. And apparently the camera is really good. I however don't like what i've seen so for from the software on it.
Considering there will be no service center anywhere for a newly opened company, no guarantees that the company will even survive beyond 2014, dodgy ordering system I am least interested. Actually that company looks likes a scam to me in most ways they talk and the 'invite' method looks very suspicious.
And the fact that they are using CM is a huge negative for me. I never liked CM, and always thought it as a useless bragging rights for nerds who would use inferior products just to make themselves look cool.
really? no small companies, no big companies?

I'm pretty much disillusioned with the idea of "service" for my phone. If it breaks in time they may replace it, but the replacement through insurance got me the runner-up last time anyway. (HTC Sensation rather than another Galaxy S)
Funny, I see CM as a big improvement in many places, and even though I haven't been running *pure* CM, most of the ROMs I have used have been based off of CM. While I appreciate the availability of forked custom ROMs, I really like that the core things are being addressed by a bigger dev team (in addition to google changes merged back in)
Of course, my Galaxy S was almost immediately abandoned by T-Mobile and Samsung, and the only way I got farther than 2.1-update1 was through the community ROMs.

how can u say that? a lot of u havent seen the quality of the oppo products blurays or phones..the majority of the oneplus one guys including the ceo are ex oppo employees
For the price of one S5 you can buy 2 Oneplus one phones and each one has better specs than it as well. Sounds like a good deal to me.

Oneplusone looking good over here.
N the Oneplus One looks much better than S5 from every angle.. Even my Nexus 5 looks much better than S5 though..
But still Oneplus One is a gorgeous phone but the size is a little big for my liking..

Specs aren't anything. S4 and M7 have similar specs and I think the s4 is MUCH better of a device. The N5 has slightly less specs than the s5 and m8 and neither of those devices feel like an upgrade at all (except speaker and camera quality - I'd take N5 camera over M7 and M8 any day).
Specs aren't everything. I've seen the android authority video on the one+ 1 and it lags like every other cm11 os. Very unimpressed and if I had a S5 I wouldn't even think about getting the one+... Even with the s5's cartoonish display and useless gimmicks... I have the n5 and wouldn't consider it.

how can I say what??
I haven't seen any service centers for this new company. have you seen one?? will they survive for few years? I don't know, I have my doubts.
Their ordering scheme of invite and smashing sounds ridiculous to me. If you like such things, that's upto you. I don't like it.
As for CM, I find them highly overrated.
No way, but kuddos to them for doing that at that price point. For me though, don't need a phablet, my neighbor has a Note 3 and it's too big imo for my daily driver, very noticeable over my S5. Plus all the benefits of the S5 make it worth it, water proof etc
