My Xperia Z1 not charging from USB - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi folks, I bought a new Xperia Z1 last week and I figured out that when I connect my phone via USB to my work computer it doesn't charge however others can charge from same cable connected to same computer.. But the phone charges when connected to my laptop or any public computers that do not limit admin privileges. Please help me what to do..
I bought the phone the same day lollipop was launched in india.. And first thing was I upgraded to lollipop so don't know if it is due to lollipop or not..

not sure but can you try to use a flash drive or other device then plugged it to the same usb port? or try to plugged at the back of system unit. i think your work computer has a faulty front usb port.

Hi yoorie
It shouldn't be faulty because others can charge their phone on same computer with same cable. And my phone doesnt work on any of the computers at my work location..

My Xperia Z doesn't charge as soon as I connect the charging cable?? I have to move the cable for a while before I get the suitable position for the charging! At first I thought the problem was at the cable but it wasn't due to the fact that it charges my brothers Galaxy S3 normally.! Does anybody else having this problem? My Xperia Z is not rooted.. Anybody know something?

You destroy your micro USB in phone.
sounds like an issue with the actual usb port on the phone might be damaged
Richy99, why you repeat what I said? You don't must repeat and refresh solved threads
Firstly Thank you for your answer. But I don't understand How can I destroy my usb port without doing anything?

The pins inside micro usb bent a bit so if u have the tools and knowledge u can fix that yourself otherwise go to.service. Its 5min job. If they want to.send it for.repairs you will wait
[email protected]
@ kcannonball before you send it off for repair try a different cable from another phone as sony's cable tend to have a bit of play in them, and if the other cable doesn't work then you will definitely know its the usb port at fault, i had problems on my old xperia x10 with the usb port/cable and using a different cable sorted it out.
Edit...after reading your post again it definitely sounds like the cable to me as I had the exact same problems on my old x10 the usb port has got a slight bit of play in it and a different cable will sort it out even though your cable will work on a different phone if you check with your friends phone you'll notice the usb cable is a tight fit and doesn't wobble about as they use a slightly smaller usb port that what sony use on there phone's.

I dont have enough knowledge so I am thinking of asking the sony center about it. However, today it started charging as soon as I connected it with the same cable. I couldnt understand whats going on??
I will check with another cable soon let me see if it works..
I have another question also: there is a white point near the usb port, what is that??
The little white strip is for sony to tell if water has got in as once it gets any water on it it will turn a pinkish red colour

Mine is pinkish red colour but I haven't used my phone in water at all. Does that turns to pinkish in every kind of water?

Is my phone bricked?

So basically no problems with my Xperia so far, there was a time it wouldn't charge properly but after 30 minutes in a wall socket it charged again.
Today my battery got empty and I thought it wasn't a problem, just connect it to a wall socket but unfortunately it wouldn't do anything, even after an hour. I tried plugging it in my computer to see if it would detect my phone, no connection sounds or notifications. I tried volume up + power button, still no sign of life.
I'm starting to believe the phone just hard bricked? Never had any problems so far so not sure what to do next.
Leaving on holiday soon so I can't afford to lose my phone at this moment.
Any suggestions?
PS: I didn't flash it or anything, just stock rom
Which firmware are you on?
Did you tried another charger and cable?

I don't think you are having a driver issue as you don't need drivers to charge via USB. Have you tried another cable? It sounds like the one you are using may be damaged or worse, the port on your phone.
Does it charge via wall with the same cable?
It charges via the wall charger but it can't connect to any computer with any cable. I don't know what happens.

Get another usb cable and try that first to rule out if it's the cable or your phone that's having issues with connecting/charging via the computer.
I try a few cable but it won't work
From MotoX
Your charging port on your phone is shorting out. This happened to my gnex after 1.5 years

severe issues with USB, no adb/fastboot/wall charging- please help..

hello there,
I wanted to ask whether someone can help me.. my rooted and s-offed HTC one's USB plug suddenly stopped working properly, wall charging is shown as USB charging and when plugged to my laptop the phone is not recognized at all, only charging via USB.. hence, I was not able to return back to stock before sending it back to repair via my dealer.
now they tell me that due to my custom recovery my warranty is void and that it is also the reason for the USB issues.. ?!? also they say that the main board needs to be replaced in order to repair my device, this is priced at €280,--!!!
I really don't know what to do now..

T-mobile sells a HTC One Refurb for $320 and There are some on ebay for around $275. If your MB is bad and HTC is going to charge you to replace it I don't think they care if the bootloader is unlocked
well obviously it seems that they do care.. they claim that my software installations have caused the hardware issues, not kidding..

Galaxy S I9000 only charges with USB cable

I am hoping that someone out there can help me. My sgs i9000 does not charge when using the mains charger. It charges when plugged into a laptop is in the USB cable okay though. I have bought, both a new battery and a new charger, but the problem persists. Has anyone had or heard of this problem? Better still, does anyone have a solution?
I thank you all in advance.

Thanked you by accident when I went to quote you there
It probably isn't his USB port on the phone if it's charging fine from a laptop with USB cable.
I'd be checking that the charger definitely works by charging another device with it, if you have one. The voltage pins on the phones socket are the same whether you're charging with a charger or plugging into a computers USB, so if one way wasn't working then nothing should be working.

Thank you.
The charger charges my wifes phone with no problems. The battery charges in her phone using the mains charger too, so not a battery related problem either.

Could just be the plug on the charger possibly, I've had that happen before. There are two little sprung prongs on one side of it. I've had well used chargers before that I've had to get a pair of pliers and pull them out a little..
The fact that it works on your wife's phone doesn't mean it can't be the plug on your charger. Could just be that your USB port is a tiny bit more worn than hers. Doesn't mean that your port is totally screwed.

I have tried three different chargers and none of them charge my phone. I'm very interested in your comment about the USB port being slightly more worn.
I am constantly flashing different Roms etc across using ums/ mtp so that does make sense. Also the USB cable that I use to charge my laptop is an old Nokia cable and the USB connector (phone end) is a little tighter.
Thanks.

Hi @sbnaul Unfortunately I haven't had much progress at all. My device connects with Odin & PC etc with no problem, it is just the charging issue using the mains charger. I have discovered that if I push in and hold the usb connector of the mains charger it will charge. Obviously though, none of us have the time to sit there and hold the phone for its charging process. If I have any further progress I will post here. Good Luck with your own problem, that must be a headache.
