I'm afraid that water entered into your mobile touch screen. Try to keep the phone in cowl filled with rice or anyother that absorbs water. If that doesn't work you need to replace the touch screen.

HTC Diamond Strange Screen Problem (URGENT)

I had my Diamond for about 8 months now. All of a sudden no matter where I click on the screen it always clicks on the top left corner (Start button). I hard reset the phone, changed SPL but nothing worked.
My Specs:
Duttys 5.2.20764.1.4.3
Diamond-hspl-1.24
When I try to align the screen it keeps on looping not letting me get out of the screen alignment. I have to soft reset the phone.
Is my phone dead? Do I have to send it to HTC for repair?
sounds like a broken screen digitizer (the plastic which recognizes touch).
If its under warranty then i suggest you flash everything back to factory, ie. stock spl, stock ROM. Then RMA it back for warranty.
If it isn't under warranty and you wanna get it repaired. Then just order a new digitizer from Ebay and install it yaself. That will save you an arm and a leg, since HTC will probably charge you like 4x the price to get it fixed.
How come it responds to the screen alignment than? When I press the cross hair it responds to it and moves to a different position.
Right now I am trying to put the stock SPL on the phone but I can't get past the screen alignment. The is synced and everything. Any ideas?
You MUST change the ROM to stock first then the SPL
I did put the stock ROM back on the Diamond. But I can't get passed the align screen. I tried deleting the "welcome" file form \Windows\StartUp but the file is protected and can not be deleted. Is there any other solution of by passing the welcome screen?
I had this problem too, I got my Diamond from Rogers and went home. After a few minutes this started to happen, and I instantly went back and got a replacement.
I got same prob. But sometime it work fine, after i do softreset i cant skip screen align. Can hard reset fix this prob? im from malaysia, how much it'll cost to replace the digitizer? thanks
i have this problem too
hello all!
I had the same problem as you! after some time searching... found a program called "Remote Screen Alignment" ... and your problem is solved!
Just google it!

For the new diditizer is this easy to repair by myself??
I have a broken touch screen too (LCD is working perfectly, touch is non responsive, all over the screen)
I was just reading in another thread that changing the digitizer on its own is a bit of a nightmare as its glued to the LCD screen? Is this true, is this the case, if so, would it be possible to buy a LCD + Digitizer in one? I searched eBay but could not find anything?
Any help is much appreciated as the cost of a new phone is not an option!
Thanks,
DG.

Hi
My digitizer is also broken, I ordered new one from ebay (cost about 10 €) and as you wrote replacament is nightmare.
I'm trying to find a manual or instruction video but I cannot find anything.
If somebody knows how to replace digitizer please let me know or share a link for it.
Currently my best solution is to order new digitizer with display (cost about 20€) It is possible to order for exaplme here:

hello, i have the same problem with my diamond here, pres the screen and it activates the left upper corner, after a while stoped doing that but not my right lower part of the screeen doesnt respond. i mean i press the "j" and it writes "k".. u know what i mean., i cac calibrate the screen but after 1 min the problem is back. i wanna buy that digitizer and change it but b4 this i need a confirmation, did anyone do it and after that their diamond worked like b4? waiting for reply thx
This post is giving me a nightmare. I am facing similar problem only its not permanent. What I mean is it woks fine sometimes but wont respond sometimes. Sometimes it responds in the corners if I press hard. I think my phone is just passed its warranty also its 2nd hand though I have the bill. Service centers are really bad so I am scared.
Do you'll think my digitizer is gone bad or is it a software glitch?
Hi guys
I have a similar problem with my HTC Touch Diamond,
The screen just gone crazy constantly pressing on the top-right corner, this happened like 1 week ago. After searching the internet and this forum I found out that my only quick solution is to hard press the four corners to get working properly again but the problem will come back again after a while.
I bought this phone from ebay in 2008, had no problems with it untill I found out this ugly strange colored square in the middle that is noticable after switching phone's backlight off, I guess that was due to me holding the phone in my jean's back pocket (as I used to previous phones non touch ), I had this phone working perfectly until what happened last week!
I decided to find if this is a software related issue, so I upgraded to official HTC ROm 2.03.405.3 WWE, but the problem persists
I also bought a digitizer from ebay in case I want to replace it (but never done this before)
Can anyone please confirm if I am still under warranty, how to check this and if yes is that going to cost me anything to get it returned to HTC for repair (other than postage costs of course)
If not under warranty anymore, do you advise me to get a LCD+Digiztizer combined instead ?
Many thanks !!!
Damian
I have this problem (not my video):
youtube > watch?v=5-IUzerAT0s (sorry, I can't post links)
Problem:
Sometimes, and really just sometimes, no matter where I touch the screen it only signals a left touch. So wherever I touch, 1, 2 or 3 - only 1 will enter.
I am not sure if this is related, but it may give some clues:
A few days ago I disassembled my Diamond. I did not take out the LCD coz it's sort of glued in and probably hard to take out and may break.
However, I got down to the digitizer soldering. I did not de-solder the flat-cable, but I pressed my solder iron on each of the 4 solder joints. I pressed the solder tip right on the film. Don't worry, it's most likely polyimide and it's heat resistant.
After that the Diamond worked well, well, for a few days. Then same happened again. When I have the problem and I press strongly right of the HTC logo (LCD bottom right) the problem disappears. That makes me thinking the problem is maybe mechanical.
It maybe a solder crack. I presume the Diamond is RoHS, and my solder iron was not RoHS. That matters, coz RoHS solder needs more heat the lead solder. Means, my solder iron did not really melt the solder under the film.
I will give that another try with an RoHS solder iron in the next few days.

I have the same 'tendency to go left' problem. From my experience, I found that the problem could be caused by heat. Here are some examples when it goes wrong: When I use Tomtom navigator while charging the battery, the phone really heats up and starts to go 'left'. When I try to text message under the sun after taking it out from my pocket. When I have high usage such as wifi + opera. Really hop somebody can come up a solution for the problem...
The Reason ---
Its a heating issue seen in 20% of all shipped diamonds. It heats and expands the digitizer causing loss of touch.
Solution ---
I'm working on it!
P.S - The heat i'm talking about is not the heat that's generated wile using the phone , its due to outside exposure.
Crazy thought - Try it at your own risk
Exposing the mobile to moderate temp (cold , say 12-14 degrees) might help. Not sure.. i said MIGHT.
Don't try this if its under warranty. And don't blame me if you did something wrong and all you circuits get messed up!
Anyways will post if i hit something on the way!
No, new solution??
Maybe change the digitalizer solves the problem?? Because two months ago the problem only stay few minutes but now i can't make the alignment process.
Thanks!

[Q] I changed touch screen and now I got a wierd error

Hello!
I have a weird error on my diamond 2 - I dropped it on the floor, so the touch screen got broke. I bought a new original one and replaced it as myself, which wasn't that difficult. The strange thing is that now when I move my finger up and down on touch screen the pointer moves side to side, and when i move finger from side to side the pointer goes up and down...? It's just like touch screen was rotated 90 degrees. Have tried to do a factory reset via a guide I found but it is still the same. Is it supposed to recalibrate the phone somehow?
Could this be a fysical connection error?
I tried to put cable in the other way but it was to short, and I can't figure out how to put it another than it is now. If i try to force it around 180 degrees it will be ripped off and break.
is your problem already solved? i replaced my cover as well. i think the connection ot digitizer is not pluged in correctly, it is not in the middle. it is also possible that your replacement is scrap

I tried to go maneuver via the menu but it was impossible. But I didn't give up and Google instead and found this - "You need to simultaneously hold down Volume Up and Volume Down on the side of the device, and while holding them both down, just tap the screen and it will go straight to the alignment screen."
This works and my screen is now aligned, but still I got it's 90 degree ccw rotated.
I forgot to mention that i have replaced digitizer two times - one before this one, reason was i thought first one was broken/faulty

[Q] my Z volumm down buttob is broken & stuck in safe mode

please help
open all flaps and turn it off. leave it for few days so it drys out (if it hasnt already)
I have the exact same problem, but in my case it was due to heavy rain and my mobile was in my pocket with all flaps tightly closed. Quite disappointing when the phone is market as water proof. I will give the open flaps for a couple of days. Any other ideas about how this can be solved?
So did you found out any solution for this prob. I'm in a similar situation. Phone is stuck in safe mode and Power and Vol down keys are not working.
Please let me know if you found any solution

What I did, as suggested by others, was to let it dry out with open flaps for several days. I also used heardryaer and hoover. After a while it restarted normally, but then I had a problem with camera, flash and closing chrome windows. This final problem I did manage to solve and sent the phone to repair. I got the phone back with a note that the hole phone was changed (got new IMEI number)

Okay thanks for the tip. I did put my phone in rice with all flaps opened for one day but didn't help at all. Will do that again for a week now, and then hair dryer too. Hope that works.
My phone is doing fine otherwise. It's just that malfunctioned Vol down key that's forcing the phone to boot into safe mode on reboot. Hell! I can't even turn off the phone. Firmware update, forced reboot, discharge battery.. all leads to the same "safe mode"
The service center reps say that they are not authorised by Sony to open the phone and fix a silly moisture problem. And that they'd replace the phone for a new IF i agree to PAY 80% cost of the new phone.
Stupid company.

In my case some vital parts was damaged and I got it repaired for free. After all the phone is marketed as water resistant and all my flaps was closed. The rain was heavy though and me and the phone was soaking wet. The volume button and safe mode problem, I think, will be solved as soon as you manage to dry the phone and if you do not have other malfunction.
/Trond
i have the exact same problem too, the phone has only ever been wet when all of the flaps are closed, and even the it wasnt for long or at high pressure, also, when the phone gets hot, i can see condensation in the front camera lens, and my power button will wake the screen but will not lock the phone, im glad to see its not just me and that many people have experienced this same issue, im going to try drying it for a few days, but if that doesnt work i will see what sony say, and i will see what my service provider says about fixing/replacing the phone, also, i have noticed the phone can get quite hot, i am going to see if i can use this as an advantage in drying the phone
EDIT: also, all of my water sensor tabs are all white, and not red or pink

But I don't know what else can be help.

Left side touch screen misbehaving after wet

Hi,
Last week I used to be outside with much rainy condition.
Though it never got totally under water, many times it's screen got wet with substantial rain drops.
Slowly, phone started misbehaving with following symptoms,
1. Around 10% of left side of touch screen doesn't show response. I enabled show touches from developer option and when I try to touch left side, say "a" letter in keyboard, it doesn't show touches and pointer jumps immediately to left edge.
2. Many times, I am not able to unlock phone as no touch are detected.
3. After unlock, many times though I am not touching phone, it shows couple of pointers (I enabled show touches in developer option to trace this) on left edge. It keeps moving resulting in erratic behavior, say screen zooms in and out, some icons clicked automatic, deleted automatic etc.
4. Sometimes I noticed that capacitive buttons are also not responding.
For all above, I have to off (not complete switch off)and on the phone. After few attempts, it becomes responding except point 1 above.
I have reflashed ROM (Vivikat) just to ensure it's not software issue.
Now it seems hardware issue with following two possibilities...
1. It's matter of some moisture in phone only. I have to try hard to dry out all moisture and phone will become responding.
2. Digitizer has some issue and may call for replacement (I don't want to do that...:crying.
Can you guys share your views/experience and advise?

I just had touch screen issues but not with water or rain. It was the CPU. Almost whenever I overclocked it, I had touch screen issues. Both misbehaving and not behaving at all. Change the CPU frequency and restart the phone and see what happens. :good:

Thanks for your reply.
I have never overclocked my device.
However, I tried to underclocked it if by any chance, it can solve the issue.
But issue still there.
A small portion of left column on touch screen seems not responding or giving erratic behavior.
Does, water can damage digitizer to that extent that can not be recovered even after drying
Or, I should keep hope and wait more before I go for digitizer replacement

If the digitizer is damaged, it is probably done. But if you can open the open, check the digitizer and see if there are any things stuck on it. My recommendation: ask an engineer to open it and clean it with the special spray they use to clean electronic parts. Maybe the water has had only a side effect and it will be fixed by cleaning the digitizer.

[Q] 4x vs a lot of water, need help

so, lets just say that i was in a pool and noticed 2 minutes later when i was inside the pool that i had my phone in my pocket
ok then i kinda enter in panic: just press the on button for like half a second and then i remember that might even overkill my phone, and my 4x has this problem with the on button that its not that responsive
so i just calm down, rush to my table and take out the battery and sim card and dry them in the closest towel i had
the thing is that i was in a trip, so there was no silicone bag or rice available for like 3 days so i left it out in the open to dry a bit more
after that i arrive to my home and put that phone deep in rice for like 1 and a half days just hoping for the best
and now i put all my faith on my phone that it will work, so i put the battery and then it lights on the buttons without me even pressing that on button
so i breath and think there is some hope, then i press the on button and nothing happens but the buttons are still lit
so my question is, is there something else i can do to save my phone?
right now the phone is back on rice, thanks a lot before hand
I think there's no smartphone that supports water, mainly pool water. I lost a Sony Ericsson WT19a 'cause a distraction, a pool and 10 minutes... Water is agressive for all components, particularly LCD screen and contacts oxidation.
However, try to take it to a professional, maybe someone can save your phone.
(Or try to disassembly to clean it yourself).

i might give a shot disassemblying it, is there any seal inside for the guarantee?
ok so i tryed plugging the phone without the battery and it shows de LG logo (woohoo) and then it shows this battery loading animation and then it shows this battery load with a refresh or repeat icon over it, and then it kinda shuts off but the home buttons are still on
the screen looks fine just a bit washed out on the left corner but not a big of a deal
thanks still

Just leave it i think is the best bet, remember not to hair dry it thou.. I did that to my HTC sensation and it just made it worse
It would be in your best interest to leave the phone there before you are absolutely sure that all the water are gone before switching it back on.....

well it had like 4 days to dry off and then like 2 days in rice
You can try with the "rice method" or with tha alcool method but the possibilities of saving your 4x are low. I'm sorry in advance for my bad english
